Joshua Tree or Palm Springs this time of year?

I need to find a place to stay Aug 22-Sept 13. I was thinking of booking an Airbnb in Palm Springs or Joshua Tree. Is this a good idea, or way too hot? I would mostly work and get some things done during the days, but would like to maybe work from a cafe once in a while. I also am recovering from breathing issue, so I’m wondering if the heat makes that worse? I can’t imagine I’d really be out much though right?

I have never been to JT but it does seem kind of isolating - are the houses really spread far out? I’ve been to Palm Springs and it seemed like there’d be cafes and such.

Can anyone weigh in? Having a hard time finding a reasonable airbnb here in LA so thought it could be a good option for a few weeks. Thank you.

Need Housing for 3 weeks - need advice

Hello ladies. I booked an Airbnb for a month (I am relocating back to LA) and it had such strong chemicals that it impacted my breathing and I had to leave last night. This has never happened to me before. The host is fighting to keep the money for the whole rest of the month ($2,500) and I am in a hotel for three nights costing me $600. I need to secure housing until around Sept. 13 and I'm not sure where to look. Airbnb for three weeks is pricing at $3000 and I feel like I'm honestly a little traumatized by the experience I just had at the Airbnb.

I need somewhere that does not use strong chemicals/scents because my breathing is still recovering from this event. Otherwise, seeking a clean, quiet, private space where I can rest and live for a few weeks. I considered getting a spot in Joshua Tree but apparently the heat is dangerous this time of year and you need to stay inside. Would prefer LA.

Would anyone have any suggestions? I'm feeling so overwhelmed in this hotel that I'm having a hard time knowing how to move forward while time is ticking down.

Thanks so much!

[Wanted] Venice Sublet or similar - 1 month, maybe more - start ~Aug 13

I am seeking a one month full apartment sublet for ~Aug 13 through September 13ish (ideally would be able to stay a few days longer if needed, but not a deal breaker). Slight chance I could do a few months if the price is decent. I just moved back to LA and am in an Echo Park Airbnb while I neighborhood shop, so I am local!

Anywhere in the westside area is welcome. Also would love Silver Lake, etc. I'm fairly open in the Eastside/Westside umbrellas. Prefer somewhere clean, quiet, with AC - ideally no one living above (or no footfall).

Nonsmoker, not a partier, don't have pets. I am fully employed (remote work) and have references and 39 positive reviews over the last nine years on AirBnb that I am happy to share, as well as exchanging IDs and a sublease agreement. I am super clean, quiet, artsy, and love yoga.

If you know of anything, please let me know. Thank you!

Are any art studio/offices available? How do I find them?

Hello LA I am seeking a small to medium sized art studio/office space that has natural light (windows) and AC. I would love a mixed-use professional space, but a creative community would be great too. I am open to a coworking space with offices if they allow artists. I am hoping to spend ideally $500 but I may be able to stretch higher! (If I can find a good deal on an apartment.) Ideally it's close to either Los Feliz or Venice. But...I'm still open. Can anyone offer recommendations?

I create medium-large, mixed media, colorful, abstract paintings (I work nontoxic/odorless), work on music (not noisy, through headphones on a DAW) and I am also a remote business operations manager.

The places I have found - I've searched so many of the art studio spaces here - either are corporate at $1400+ or are $400-$750 erected temporary walls that don't touch the ceiling to create dark, dank cubicles with no windows. I suppose I'm hoping for a diamond in the rough.

I really appreciate any help. I am wondering if I can find this in Los Angeles, because I'd really like to call it home again (used to live here and just got back a month ago). Thank you!

If not Los Angeles, where?

I am seeking somewhere to call home. I used to live in LA (for 4 years), and I have been back for 2 months after being gone for 9 years (7 abroad and 2 in Seattle). I also lived in NYC for many years and I don't think I want to go back. I work remotely and can live anywhere.

I have only been back in Los Angeles for 2 months, but I feel completely mixed about staying. I LOVE the unmatched selection of vibrant arts, culture, events, social opportunities, creativity, proximity to the ocean, and gorgeous nature. However, the smog/marine layer, heat, crazy traffic everywhere, and high cost of living for a nice spot are not working for me. I need the positives of what LA offers but I am losing my sense of peace here. And living outside of LA and commuting in feels too isolating.

I KNOW this is like a paradise that doesn't exist. But I could really use some thoughtful suggestions about where you think might be good for me.

Here are my needs:

  1. I am an artist and I need a city that can allow me to flourish. I do not want to rely solely on online.
  2. I love having tons of things to do and always new things popping up.
  3. I basically want LA without the traffic, pollution, ugly in between places.
  4. I want to spend about $2400 on an apartment and $600 on an art studio space in an art or mixed use building/community with windows and AC.
  5. I need to live in an apartment that doesn't have anyone living above me, with a view of some sort, and a balcony in a peaceful area with close proximity to a main street area.

Would especially love to here from any artists who left and went somewhere they love! TYIA.

Any events this evening?

Hi all, I went to a creatives cocktail hour event just earlier but when I arrived, everyone was already seated at tables (which they said we’d be up and mingling) and there were no open seats. I waited around a while for others to show up but no such luck. So I’m curious if there’s any other social or arts/culture events happening tonight?

Where’s the social scene?

I just arrived back to the area and am exploring where I want to live - LA or Long Beach. I’m here today and I’m loving it! Great food, interesting neighborhoods, people out and about! The only thing is, when I look online at Luna, Partiful, Meetup, etc where I usually find all kinds of arts/cultural/social events in LA, I’m not really seeing anything in Long Beach. How are you all finding your community here?

I know it may be: over time you see the same people over and over at a class etc., and if that’s how, that’s fine I’d love to know. But I was curious if there’s more going on that I’m missing. I work remotely and I do love how LA has so much going on, but I’m partial to the lifestyle in Long Beach (grew up at the Jersey shore). So am curious - thoughts on community and arts/culture/personal expansion events and ongoings?

Thanks!

Has anyone joined Ground Floor Echo Park?

I am new to the area so am a little displaced, work remotely at random hours (but want to get more structured), am artsy and friendly but more of an ambivert. I am living in Echo Park for a month to start, should I join Groundfloor cowork?

I really do not want a place where people just sit and work and there's no social interaction and it's cold and aloof. Their marketing states that it's a place to really know people with events. Can anyone give feedback:

  1. What's the day to day work like - is it a cool environment with regulars?
  2. What are the events like - can you really make friends or is it cold?

If a space is really warm and welcoming and good energy, I think it'd be great. But if it's another space that is actually aloof and antisocial, I probably would end up just not going. So really would love some feedback on your experience!

Thank you.

How to not react to noise? Please help

I am staying in an airbnb for a month and I had to get one that has someone living upstairs. I asked her originally if there was a lot of noise transfer and she said no. This is bullshit. For the last 3 hours, it's been constant walking and banging. I understand that this is a 100 year old house so the noise transfer is inevitable. But my nervous system is wrecked. Like literally fried. It has been an extremely stressful 6 months for me. I have had no relief, it has been constant stress. So I know my nervous system is extremely fragile. Besides saying something, which since it's an old house, I don't think will work - she has to be able to move around her house - What do I do?? How do I reduce the stress I feel in my body and brain? I am completely offline and my whole nervous system is completely fried. Brain fog, all of it. Please help with strategies aside from "leave" and "say something." Thank you.

Need an apartment starting today for a few days/week

Does anyone have an open space they’d like to fill for a few days or a week starting today?

I am open in terms of location, and I don’t have a specific price but hoping for less than a hotel.

I’ve been staying with a lovely friend while I look for a sublet (just moved back to LA) and I feel I need to get my own space for a few days/week. I am employed, clean, quiet, kind. I have 39 reviews on Airbnb I can send you and references.

Please viable places only, nothing shady.

Thank you very much!

Took a gummy - crazy response

I just relocated to a city and am staying with a friend while I find a sublet. The other night, her husband and adult kids were talking about taking gummies and I thought to myself, well, why not? Maybe it's like having a glass of wine but without the headache. So....I took myself to the shop and got some very mild gummies - a 1:20 and 5:5 thc to cbd. Ratios are same amounts in each gummy.

I took the 5:5 and felt basically nothing one night. So a few days later, on an empty stomach on a Saturday night alone I took a 5:5 and a 1:20……. holy crap lol. I suddenly lost time and realized - this is NOT good. So I quick got ready for bed and ran to the guest room I'm sleeping in, shut the door and did not come out the rest of the night. They weren't home yet, but I knew they'd be home soon and I did not want to be high off my ass.

So, I'm in this tiny guest room. My head was on FIRE, and I was so hot and paranoid. I kept checking my phone because I could swear that I texted something crazy or had done something horrible. I was paranoid I did something wrong in some other part of the house that they would discover haha.

Needless to say I had a crazy, too-high response and will not be doing that again.

Discouraged - looking for a sublet

Hi all, I've been looking for a sublet in/near Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood Hills, Beachwood Canyon, Echo Park, etc. I have lived on the Westside before and so I want to be in these other neighborhoods to really get the vibe for day to day life there - driving there from 30-60 min away just doesn't give me the info I need - but finding a sublet is proving difficult. I've been seeking around a two month sublet, or month to month ideally, clean, relatively quiet, safe, prefer own place, but slightly open to a room in a 2/2.

What do you think? Keep going and something will come up, or is this a crazy unicorn and just let it go. I probably need to find a place in the next week-ish.

Relocated back here to LA and staying with a friend near Culver while I find a sublet.

Would love any thoughts/support. Feeling overwhelmed.

Botox or Dysport - with an MD?

I need an amazing injector for Dysport or Botox - someone who has great technique and really listens. I have had twice where an injector has made my brow droop and a few more times where they refuse to treat me bilaterally (more on one side than the other). I also hope to not pay too much. I am coming from paying $9/unit in CANADA, which means like $6/unit USD with a MD who is fantastic. Obviously I'm not expecting to get it at that rate, but looking for the balance of affordability with expertise. A lot of injectors are people who just took one or two classes and added it to their practice, and - no offense - but they often lack ability.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I'm willing to travel a little bit for it (like 2.5 hrs).

Thank you!!

Anyone 40+ do TimeLeft?

I am a 44 year old woman and signed up for TimeLeft. I keep hearing if you’re under 40, you’re paired with all under 40s but if you’re 40+ youre often paired with people 70+ and always 40+. I have no issue with people of different ages, but right now I’m new here and trying to build connection with people who are more like 35-55 so that we have more in common.

Can anyone share their experience and if there’s truth to the 40+ and under 40 delineation with TimeLeft? Thanks!

Maybe East Side isn't what I thought? LA has changed - advice needed

I lived in LA for four years and left 9 years ago. I am back after 7 years traveling the world and then 2 years in Seattle, trying to see if LA is the city for me to settle down in with a home base, as I'm ready for the next part of my journey.

I am an artist (fine art painter) and love art/culture, events, community, connectedness, so this time I thought I would try the East side (used to live in Culver City Fox Hills). However, I went there yesterday, through Hollywood, east Hollywood, Los Feliz, silver lake, echo park, and it felt chaotic, smoggy, and a bit grungy (not bad just not drawn to it). I arrived on the west side around Culver City/cheviot hills and it felt better though it was unrecognizable. Culver/Washington area has changed so much.

I feel very disoriented here, as it obviously has changed a lot. I need to give it more time, but I feel like I’m afraid this isn’t my city anymore and I'm exhausted at the idea of moving again. I’ve had a shit year because I was not a fan of Seattle so I’m nervous that if LA isn’t my home that I'll have to keep looking. Mind you I’m coming off some intense nonstop one thing after the next the last six months, so my nervous system is fried (covid 3 months, dark seattle winter, moving out alone, driving down to LA, electrocuted to heart witha night in ER across the country for work, two weeks straight working 10-13 hours, living out of bags, etc etc). So, I'm definitely going to give LA a chance, but could use some thoughts:

My questions:

  1. As an artist - is living in the west side too isolating and far? When I lived on the west side before I never went to the east side. I am more of a fine arts person, not grunge scene/starving artist so I am not sure where the arts events are anymore. But I want connection, community, and also networking.
  2. What do you love about LA? I need renewed hope that it’s still this amazing place to live that I remember.
  3. Please don't assume, but feel free to ask me anything if you are unclear!

Thank you so much! 🌴
