How long can a Kingdom be directionless before it becomes a problem?

This kingdom has a system of ministers and nobles meant to handle most routine affairs and leave the monarch free to pursue their grand vision, the trouble is that their new king doesn't have a vision and he's not searching for one either. He's willing to do the bare minimum of a ruler to keep the state running smoothly but no more than that. This lack of direction has frozen local politics since it's unclear which side the King supports.

So how long do you think this state could go on before someone stops waiting for the King and acting on their own?

Mega-Corporations in fantasy?

Megacorps are a common trope in all kinds of science fiction from cyberpunk to space opera, but don't seem very common in fantasy.

So I am curious if anyone has ever tried to do something like a mega corporation but set in a fantasy setting, and how does it function? (so that it's not just one super-rich noble or something).

FFG Star Wars as a mecha game?

Star Wars isn't really a mecha franchise like Gundam or Battletech, but given the nature of the setting it wouldn't be too much of a stretch if one wanted to fit mecha into it.

So has anyone ever tried, or considered running a mecha campaign using this system?

[RoboCop/Ghost in The Shell] Alex Murphy was the first full cyberization

Alex Murphy and Motoko Kusangi, are the same idea; a human brain inside a robot body. The difference is that Motoko could pass for a normal human while Murphy is clearly robotic. Murphy is implied to be a unique as the only cyborg cop in the entire world while Motoko lives in a world where human cyberization is quite common (in GITS it's common to the point that it's unusual for someone NOT to have some kind of augmentation).

Murphy was the prototype, the first time a person's entire body was replaced with cybernetic components. The success of 'Robocop' showed that the technology was viable and soon other companies began doing researching into prosthetics and cyberization. Later decades of researched & development the technology had improved to allow cyborg police to become common place.

Robocop was the beginning of the cyberized world we see in Ghost in The Shell because the technology that created him would eventually lead to advanced cyborgs of Ghost in The Shell.

A character searching for a story?

Do you feel like you have a character you really like but honestly don't know what to do with them?

>!Mine's a prince who has this complicated relationship with his position. He recognizes that he is the future of his kingdom and that one day it will be his job to guide and protect the people but he also resents the fact that his entire life was planned out before he was born. So his attitude swings between 'I must protect my people' to 'burn it all, why should I care?' !<

Star Wars: The Origins of Leia's Bounty Hunter Disguise

If I was asked to write a story about how Leia acquired the armor and disguise she used in RoTJ, this is what I would do.

Before the Battle of Yavin, while on a mission for the emerging Rebel Alliance Leia becomes stranded on a remote planet. On this planet she encounters an aging bounty hunter named Boushh. Through necessity they are forced to work together to escape the planet and Leia learns that this Boushh, despite being a bounty hunter, is not a bad guy. He hunts bounties to help put his daughter through medical school and while he is often paid by the Empire, he only hunts real criminals. Boushh works out that Leia is part of the Rebel Alliance but does not tell the Empire. In return, Leia spins a story about how Boushh rescued her from pirates and so for rescuing an Imperial Noble he's paid enough to cover his daughter's tuition.

Years later, Leia tries to contact Boushh, hoping to ask for his help in rescuing Han from Jabba's Palace. Instead Boushh's daughter tells Leia to go away and never call again. Leia visits Boushh's home but again his daughter tells her to leave and not come back. Leia refuses until she speaks to Boushh face to face but she finds the old hunter to be a frail old man in a hospital bed and an IV tube in his arm, playing cards with his grand son. All the years of bounty hunting has finally caught up with him. He gave up everything so his daughter and grandson would have a better life and now that she wants him to be comfortable in what little time he has left. Leia apologizes saying that Boushh deserves to be with his family, and he is sorry for not being able to help Leia.

As they saying goodbye his daughter talks about how everyone's afraid of bounty hunters but no one is thinks about the person inside the armor which gives Leia an idea and asks to borrow his equipment.

In the coda, Boushh's daughter takes a message from someone wanting to talk to her father about a bounty he recently collected on Tattooine. Thinking this is some kind of scam she angrily tells the person her father has not collected a bounty in years and that they should never call again. On the other end, however, is Bib Fortuna who turns to Jabba "It would appear we have been deceived, master."

LinuxMint won't shut down

It started a couple days ago. It works fine but whenever I try to shut down the screen goes blank and it becomes unresponsive, almost like it went into sleep mode but I can't wake it up either. The only thing is to hold down the power button, except when I turn it back on it boots up like normal.

It's not a hardware problem because I tried it on my windows partition and it works normally.

Any suggestions on what might be causing it or how to address it?

Time Travel: You cannot change the past, but someone else can change the future

Imagine; you travel back in time to prevent World War 2. However you might do that, does not matter, because its already happened and you cannot change your past. So you must find someone in the past and convince them to carry out your plan, because it's still their future, WW2 hasn't happened yet so they can prevent it.

I guess you would still be changing the past, if event in directly, but is an intriguing idea; you can manipulate but cannot change.

Ghostbusters is a prequel to Warhammer 40,000

I'm a little surprised this one hasn't been posted yet.

It seems like everything in Ghostbusters can be explained through Warhammer 40K.

Ivo Shandor was an early human pysker who was manipulated by by a demon into creating an opening into the Warp on Earth in the 20th century.

Gozer is a greater demon of Tzeentch that was trying to destroy Earth, and prevent the rise of the Emperium. Because there were so few humans at the time, a full manifestation would be impossible so Gozer needed the humans to help.

The proton backs and traps are primitive forms of the gella field used to protect ships from demon incursion in the warp, except used to keep entities 'in' instead of 'out.' What Egon calls 'ghosts' are actually minor warp entities slipping through the rift in reality.

Vigo was also an early pysker but one that achieved apotheosis, becoming a demon prince, most likely of Tzeentch as Slaneesh did not manifest yet.

Paladins that ARE NOT stereotypical knights in shining armor?

It seems like a lot of paladins follow the usual tropes of a gallant knight who follow a code of honor in pursuit of some righteous cause. There are exceptions of course, but most of the time it seems to follow this basic archetype, with some variation.

So has anyone ever tried to make a paladin that doesn't fit into that trope?

>!Here's my thoughts; if paladins are basically warriors who fight in service to a particular deity, why not a paladin of death? Not an evil paladin, but one devoted to the god of death. Their mission is to hunt down and destroy undead which they see as a perversion of natural order. Unlike traditional clerics, they have no healing magic at all, and do not interfere in affairs of the living. !<
