what is something you wish you could say to your other coworkers or manager?

I wish I could tell one very specific coworker that they are not the most important person in that office. that if they left tomorrow, someone else would take their place just fine

how much do you spend in a week and how do you budget?

I have $236 for every bi-weekly check (give or take each paycheck) lump sum - after bills and maybe putting $100 in savings, if i can. i feel like i'm barely making it work. how do you budget your weekly allowances? I get paid in two days and right now I only have $30 in my account :/

this $236 also includes expenses for "fun" (which isnt really happening lets be honest) groceries, and unexpected small charges (like maybe I ran out of something early, my pets need something, etc). I unfortunately live in a high-cost area.

how do you deal with coworkers that are petty and antagonize you?

i’m F25 and work at a private cardiology practice. most of my coworkers are nice, but two younger women (who are 22 and 25), let's call her “thing 1” and her sidekick, “thing 2”...can be very catty. to be fair, it's really the 1st one and the 2nd one just has no backbone.

i was about to room a patient when the lead doctor asked me to work at checkout because the front was getting busy. a few minutes later, thing 2 complained that she was now rooming patients alone - which wasn't actually the case. i explained that the doctor had reassigned me to sit here. thing 1 then said, “yeah, he got angry that you were sitting in the back and told you to sit there.”

that wasn’t true, and she hadn’t even witnessed our conversation. not knowing what to say but knowing it was ridiculous, i just laughed and said, “okay." i didn’t want to feed into it, but it still bothered me.

she frequently gossips, freezes people out, and makes unnecessary comments. management won’t help because the manager likes her. i do my job, treat everyone equally, and haven’t had issues with anyone else, so I don’t understand why she has singled me out.

Boss does not pay overtime nor readily give paystubs?

For reference, I am in the US. IL to be exact. I am not an exempt worker to my knowledge - hourly pay, full time.

boss does not pay overtime (if i work 44 hours, all 44 hours are straight base pay not 40 at base and then 4 at 1.5x) he also does not automatically provide paystubs although IL law requires them to be provided.

My question is - what can I realistically do? From my research, the time, effort, and money it would require to contest this in small claims court would far outweigh their resources. not to mention the repercussions it would bring for my actual employment.

i'm so tired of feeling like i'm treading water

I guess i should be glad that I have a roof over my head, a car, a job, food on the shelves, and my health. I know all of those things are immense privileges. I just feel like it takes all of my money and soul to do it. then, by the end of it all what money I have to actually live off of is...not much. i don't have enough money to do fun things, to go on trips, and every purchase has to be scrutinized heavily - "okay, if i buy this or do this what am I possibly giving up?" I have no money in savings because I am living /just/ under my means.

I have lived in worse conditions and I am grateful to have what I do. but being a young adult in this economy sucks and i'm just tired and frustrated.

why do some managers flirt with their younger subbordinates?

currently dealing with this and trying to navigate it. I work in a small medical office with no true HR. a team of all male doctors and one manager who will literally do nothing. so, I feel like if I got really uncomfortable/ something went too far I wouldn't really get any help. doctor has been getting blatantly flirtatious but seems to keep it out of the eyes/ears of anyone else and has gotten a little touchy.

fkr reference, he's 38 and I am 25.

have you ever had a manager/superior flirt with you and what did you for do?

kind of dealing with this. at first it was subtle but it's recently gotten pretty blatant. I work for a doctor and he has been starting to get more blatant and started getting kind of touchy. playing with my hair, touching my hip, my shoulder, leg, etc. I work at a small office with no HR.

flirtatious coworker

I work at a cardiologist office in a hospital. one of the doctors has become...very flirtatious. we have a very laid back work environment in terms of attitude. you have to break the tension and trauma of seeing cardiac emergencies somehow, i guess.

but, he is obviously a.) in a higher position than me and, b.) definitely older

it started with normal banter. then it moved to subtle invitations outside of work that didnt go anywhere - as I don't want to "shit where I eat", and now it's moved to him being rather touchy. hand on the shoulder, back, leg, playfully touching my hair, and most notably my hip.

I wonder why someone in a position/older than their subbordinate would so openly flirt. at first it was sort of ambiguous/plausibly deniable until he full on touched my hip (we were about to walk out of his office and he used that moment to put his hand on my hip to "pull/guide" me out).

I will admit while i don't necessarily dislike it, it is rather unprofessional even for a laid back department. i just wonder what he's thinking.

how to deal with two catty girls at work?

I work in a very small healthcare office. I heard through the grape vine that on a day I was off two of my coworkers were talking about how much they dislike me. I don't feel like i've done anything specifically to them to warrant this. I know that sometimes people just dislike you with no reason but, i definitely thought we were all friendly towards each other. it did hurt my feelings a bit. they only seem to really talk about me when i'm not there to hear/not in the office. they know i'd confront them if i heard it.

today, I heard one of the girls talking about how something i did was "really weird." i was right behind them but since they were whispering i didnt catch all of it. i just kind of played dumb and said, "what are you saying?" and she looked at me and said, "oh, nothing. just something about someone here." my workplace has turned from generally positive to pretty uncomfortable in about a week. maybe i just care too much, maybe i'm letting it affect me too much. it just sucks as I cannot avoid them. but, according to some people almost everyone has been a personal victim of the ring leader between the two. she has had something bad to say/disliked almost everyone there at some point in time. when said ring leader isn't there, the other one is totally different. the "queen bee" makes everything about her and is one of those people who everyonr "loves" but you see right through her.

is this guy at work actually flirting with me or what?

at first, I was just thinking maybe he's a friendly guy. we work in a small hospital affiliated clinic. l am one of the older MA's at 25, so everyone is pretty young. there are 4 doctors. the one in question is the younger one and even he's over 10 years older than me.

I noticed he would sometimes put his hand on my shoulder or back as we were walking together at times. i'd seen him casually do so to his patients so, seemed at least explainable? once he did put his hand on my waist/hips and playfully pushed me when i was walking out of his office with him, after discussing a patient. that was my first hint he may be a "little more" than just friendly.

said doctor and i have really good rapport together. we chat, we joke, and i do respect him. i genuinely think he's a good doctor - which i can't say the same for all of them there, but i digress. one day he came into the lunch room where I was on break. it was just us. he started asking if I go into the city at all. continuing our normal witty and sarcastic banter, i said "yeah - when I feel like it. if there's something worth it." we started talking about a certain part of the city and he said "I live right around the corner from your train station. we should go to drinks." "oh. I don't really drink like that." (at least not enough to go to a bar) "okay well a restaraunt then." and then left the room. I know he has invited some people out to a concert before or at least asked to meet up there if they were already going...but dinner or drinks feels different.

he asked for a certain kind of alcohol i mentioned and so I brought it to him. at the time, I didn't think it to mean anything as I have brought gifts for many people in the office. when I have asked if he tried it he has said, "i thought we were going to have it together." i asked, "is that an invitation?" and he said yes.

now, some weeks later... it's turned into more slight touches (my lower back, my hip, etc), more joking, finding more time to talk to each other, etc etc. shamefully, i enjoy the attention for sure. it's nice to know someone finds you alluring, at the very least. but, i'm not an idiot. I understand the "don't shit where you eat" principle.

i told him i had taken a day off and was going to the beach. next day, he texts me asking how it is and asks for pictures - doesnt specify of what - and comments on what i was wearing asking if it was my bathing suit- which you could barely even see in the photo. that's now the second time he's texted me outside of work hours.

someone tell me if i'm crazy or looking for meaning in nothing. besides the touching and subtle personal invitations I feel like this all could just be friendly. if anything, it seems he may be waiting for me to make an actual move.

man at work either very friendly or flirting

guy above me at work probably flirting and I kind of like it

at first, I was just thinking maybe he's a friendly guy. we work in a small hospital affiliated clinic. all the MA's there are in their early 20's. i myself am 25. one girl is in her 30's. there are 4 doctors, 3 of which are male. the one in question is the younger one and even he's over 10 years older than me.

I noticed he would sometimes put his hand on my shoulder or back as we were walking together at times. i'd seen him casually do so to his patients so, seemed at least explainable? once he did put his hand on my waist/hips and playfully pushed me when i was walking out of his office with him, after discussing a patient. that was my first hint he may be a "little more" than just friendly. our clinic is super casual, we all pretty much like each other and get along. probably the most positive workplace I have been in so far, despite its stressors at times and the one off weird coworker.

said doctor and i have really good rapport together. we chat, we joke, and i do respect him. i genuinely think he's a good doctor - which i can't say the same for all of them there. he treats everyone pretty fair but i digress. one day he came into the lunch room where I was on break. it was just us. he started asking if I go into the city at all. continuing our normal witty and sarcastic banter, i said "yeah - when I feel like it. if there's something worth it." we started talking about a certain part of the city and he said "I live right around the corner from your train station. we should go to drinks." "oh. I don't really drink like that." (at least not enough to go to a bar) "okay well a restaraunt then." and then left the room. I know he has invited some people out to a rave/concert before or at least asked to meet up there if they were already going...but dinner or drinks feels different.

he asked for a certain kind of alcohol i mentioned and so I brought it to him. at the time, I didn't think it to mean anything. since then when I have asked if he tried it he has said, "i thought we were going to have it together." i asked, "is that an invitation?" and he said yes. but he won't actually bring up anything concrete. i feel like we're in this weird dance of back and forth.

now, some weeks later, since then... it's turned into more slight touches (my lower back, my hip, etc) doubling back to talk to me (like if he's near the break room and sees I go in, he has turned around and followed me in there), or has insert himself into us girls' space during a conversation (like taking the inconvenient way to his office and squeezed behind me when he could have taken the open hallway). shamefully, i enjoy the attention for sure. it's nice to know someone finds you alluring, at the very least. he's not totally unattractive, either. i really like his personality.

i told him i had taken a day off and was going to the beach. next day, he texts me asking how it is and asks for pictures - doesnt specify of what - and comments on what i was wearing - which was just a tank top and shorts. it was mainly a picture of my face with the beach behind me. he had said "is that your bathing suit?". that's now the second time he's texted me outside of work hours. if he is actually interested in me, i wish he would just bite the bullet. or if he's not, he could say something like, "i like joking with you. you're a good buddy" i don't know. but, of couese it's not a very kosher situation. older guy + higher position + 25 year old medical assistant doesnt exactly = "totally go for it."

someone tell me if i'm crazy or looking for meaning in nothing. besides the hip touching, I feel like this all could just be friendly behavior. definitely not married and had no girlfriend - so that's not a factor as far as i can tell

I feel like doctor above me at work may be flirting

at first, I was just thinking maybe he's a friendly guy. we work in a small hospital afiliated clinic. all the MA's there are younger 20-25. one girl is in her 30's. 4 doctors, 3 of which are male. the one in question is the younger one and even he's over 10 years older than me.

"oh. I don't really drink like that." "okay well a restaraunt then." and then left the room.

sometimes he will text me after work. i told him i had taken a day off and was going to the beach. next day, he texts me asking how it is and asks for pictures and comments on what i was wearing (which was just a tank top and shorts. it was only the corner of my tank top in the photo). that's now the second time he's texted me outside of work hours. obviously, even if I enjoy the attention to a degree it's definitely inappropriate and the other girls have corroborated this. no mid to late 30's doctor should realistically be interested in a younger subordinate. hence, why I feel kind of shameful enjoying it while still trying to keep him at a distance.

i can't necessarily go to my manager or boss since he's not just an employee but a practice partner. we've had troublesome low-level coworkers in the past and they barely did anything actionable about that. a potentially inappropriate doctor is a whole other ball-game. i don't assume his behavior to be malicious and i don't think he he'd push anything concrete or actually cross the "work crush" boundary but, you never know. so, I don't really know what the point of posting here. maybe it's just to put this into the void and get it off my mind. maybe someone can offer their own story, or advice, or just enjoy someone else's work drama

weird doctor interactions

I work as an MA at a hospital affiliated clinic. he is one of the doctors there.

let me set the record straight by saying - even if he was definitively interested, I wouldn't pursue him. "don't shit where you eat", ya'know.

that being said, I feel a little conflicted because the attention he gives does feel "personal" and more casual than others and I secretly and shamefully enjoy it..in a sense. i don't know what I'm really looking for in terms of posting this. maybe just to get it off my chest.

in terms of "personal" or "flirtatious" attention...he gets a bit touchy. usually it's my shoulder, top of my head (i'm quite short), or on the middle of my back if we're walking together for some reason. he asked me if I ever make it up to the city. turns out that my train station is a block from his apartment. he said, "if you're ever in the city let me know. we should get drinks." i said, "oh I don't really drink like that." he said, "okay. a restaraunt then." we banter and tease each other a lot (I will say our clinic is quite tight knit and casual. we all shoot the shit with each other aside from 2 doctors who are more reserved and professional).

he has no girlfriend that any of us know of. definitely not married. he asked me if I could bring him something to work - a type of alcohol from eastern europe. at the moment, I didnt think anything of it or interpret it as anything more as it was a simple request and in front of multiple people. i told him to let me know how it was. he texted saying, "or maybe i'll save it for the next time you're in the city." once, he also playfully touched my waist as I was walking in front of him and playfully pushed me. in the moment I didnt react and he hasn't done that type of thing again.

the thing is, it's not very consistent. or maybe at this point i'm overanalyzing and racking my brain trying to decide what the hell he's doing or means by this. i'm autistic so I get stuck in loops and social situations generally confuse me - especially if they are layered like this. please try not to be rude. i'm just confused as to what to think. he's very back and forth
