Do luxury brands only make smaller narrow frames or am I missing something?

I was looking around on online at Matsuda, Moscot, and Masahiro Maruyama and I keep coming across the same thing. All the lenses are 46-49mms across with 52mm being seemingly the largest lens width and it’s like one frame on the site. Then in contrast all the bridges are much wider at 23-26mms.

All the glasses I’ve worn and seen in the industry that are your Luxotica or Warby Parker type variety usually have a lens width of 52-57mms and bridge of 15-19mms.

I am someone who needs a lens of AT LEAST 54mms usually. Currently wearing a frame that’s 55-18-140.

Do these frames just fit way differently across the board? How does the wide bridge and narrow lens compare? The measurements seem so radically different to any glasses I’ve tried and yet everyone on here looks great and frames fit beautifully. Do you need a specific head for them?

Are glasses ruining my face?

I wear glasses with prism in them so contacts aren’t a great option for me. Though I did wear them anyways for a couple years. I can’t help but feel like glasses make me look substantially worse. I’m almost 31 and I definitely don’t want to look older than I am, which I’m worried glasses have that effect as well. Maybe I picked the wrong frame this year?

I think iceberg is the best lettuce.

It has a great crunch and mild flavor that is fantastic on sandwiches and burgers. As well it being versatile for salads from a classic cobb, wedge salad or your local pizza joint salad. Iceberg also is cheap and keeps well in the fridge

. Romaine can sometimes be bitter or have an overpowering flavor, same with arugula which is only good in super specific situations. Spinach leaves a weird grit on your teeth and is kinda soft. Green leaf is expensive for what it is. Same with butter lettuce. Kale can be good but you have to massage it and forget about it on a sandwich.

I feel like there’s an insane amount of iceberg lettuce hate from 90s dieting trends that said LETTUCE was bad for you. Iceberg receives a ton of unfounded hate that to me seems to be rooted in classism.

Plus it is what started the American salad as we know it today since it was the first commercially viable lettuce that could be shipped nationally to grocery stores without wilting. It was stored in train cars on ice, hence the name!

We should all give iceberg more love and credit. And eat less pesky uppity romaine.

Pressured to get a credit card?

I’m a customer and today I went in to shop around. I needed a few new items of clothing. I ended up trying a handful of pants and none of them fit as well as going through the dresses and finding nothing so by the time I was going up to the register I was already feeling bummed and a little stressed.

I know I’m gonna be asked about getting a credit card and usually it’s semi painless though I always dread going up there a little. Still I say no and we go on our merry way. Well today I could just tell by the cashiers extremely fake jovial nearing aggressive attitude right out the gate i was gonna be pushed on the credit card. Asking what I was doing later that day and how AMAZING every item I got was and how cute my outfit was. (None of this is bad on its own and would be pleasant but she was just talking in a really fake upbeat almost condescending voice) I’m thinking maybe she was a manager but tough to say. Like someone who’s trying to sell you a time share or join their religion.

I’m dreading the moment she gets to the card but in my mind I’m thinking “okay OP just say no thank you and it’ll be fine. This part always happens”.

I really wanted to get it over with so after the first spiel about the 10% off I said no thank you. Then she went on to ask me how often I shop there and I just said not often. She pushed more trying to get me to remember when the last time was and I said a long time ago. She asked again if I was sure I didn’t shop more often than I was saying. She then pulled something out of the bag and asked me why I wouldn’t want to get a discount on something like this. (It was a candle). At this point the three items I got are ringed up in the bag and there’s a line behind me.

I said “no I don’t want the credit card thank you though” then she still wouldn’t let it go and I cut her off and said “no” again. She asked me why I didn’t come here more often. I said I just don’t shop much. She said I could save with the card. I cut her off and said no again. Then she went on and on about how much she loves her credit card and now I really need one too. I said “no thanks”

Eventually she let it go. (But seriously after like 5 nos. Isn’t one enough?) At this point I was becoming extremely stressed out and just wanted to leave. I think she (maybe?) sensed that and complimented my outfit again (which was literally a T shirt and jeans) and then my glasses after the transaction. Though she ended it with “just think about that 10% off next time!”

It sucked and I don’t think I’m gonna shop at TJmaxx again if I can avoid it at all costs. Literally I don’t think I’ve been pushed that hard on a sale in my life. No I don’t want a credit card, jeez.

Were these frames a mistake?

They looked so good with the filter and when I tried them on in store but I feel like with my rx in them now they look different or maybe my eyes look too small? Maybe I’m over thinking it. Thoughts?

Edit: just to clarify all photos are the same glasses! The last photo is the try on filter of the same glasses in the same color. I believe since they are acetate cut in sheets the pair I got happened to be mostly the dark part of the tortoiseshell pattern so they are darker.

What are the chances a frame will get discontinued?

I just got the Lenore frames and I LOVE them. It’s so hard for me to find a frame that’s wide enough for my face and fits my nose.

I’ve never seen a pair that look quite like the Lenore frames but I’m not sure how popular it is and I’m worried it will get discontinued. Should I go ahead and order another pair just in case?

New glasses. What do you guys think?

The old pair is the second photo. (Sorry my hair is kinda wet still so it looks a little crazy)

Glasses and face shapes

Does the shape or your face and glasses truly matter? I have a pretty pronounced jaw for a woman and a somewhat square face. I’ve always been told by opticians since I was a teen any square or geometric frames are a 100% no.

I’ve seen a lot of women wearing those oversized square frames and I’m kinda jealous they can pull them off. Is this a hard fast rule?

What’s the best way to preserve the AR coating on glasses?

I recently bought a pair of warby parker glasses and I’m hearing they’ve cheapened the coating. Usually I can get 2 years out of a pair from them and I am NOT careful. As in I use my shirt to clean them, I don’t keep them in a case on my nightstand and I’ve dropped them countless times.

I don’t use lens wipes or sprays. I only use my shirt or a lens cloth. If they’re actually super dirty I will use dish soap and water. But maybe like 1-2x a year.

What are some ways I can be extra careful with my new pair to make sure they last longer?

What are the most and least popular frames WP sells?

Merely just out of curiosity. I am wondering more about frames that are wildly unpopular as in they never ever sell vs frames that sell constantly.

Hidden History with Dr. Harini Bhat seems to be written by Ai. Any reccomendations with something like it?

I love podcasts about oddities and weird historical events. When Hidden History popped up as a suggested podcast I was super intrigued and excited. Within the first ten minutes of her Mary Celeste episode I hear the phrases “Not this this or this, just this” and “that matters, here’s why”. On top of the fast paced monotone way the host speaks it’s clear she inputs prompts into AI and then reads off of it as her podcast content.

I would love to be proven wrong but it’s pretty evident.

Any recommendations for something like it?

I have already listened to You’re Wrong About, Decoder Ring and Stuff You Should Know. As well as 30 Morbid Minutes and Last Podcast on the left.

Edit: Sorry for the typos in the title. I wrote it in a rush on my lunch break.

Which pair do you like best?

This is a filter obviously. I just got a new pair of glasses I posted about earlier but upon reflection they touch my cheeks and slide down constantly. Over all they hurt and my nose doesn’t work with them.

I’m wondering, which out of these two do you think looks best?

Doing an exchange no big deal or annoying?

I just got my glasses in the mail today and they’re lovely but they touch my cheeks when I talk/smile and it’s driving me crazy. They also slide just a bit on my face.

They’re the blakeley wide and I saw they have a low bridge fit option that I think would fix my issues entirely.

I’m wanting to exchange them but I don’t want to bother anyone. Thoughts?

This drugstore polish is beautiful!

I picked this up last night at CVS. The way it glows is so beautiful! It’s also a fantastic formula. I looked into it and apparently this color is from 2016. I checked the batch code and it was indeed made in January 2017. On the shelf a loooong time.

Revlon- Hypnotic x2 coats
Topcoat- Sally Hansen Miracle Topcoat

What are some amazing magnetics with a dark base?

I’m looking for magnetic that really work (good formula, super reactive magnetic particles) with a dark base, the glitter can be any color. Ideally a base that’s black, navy, dark purple, dark maroon, dark brown, dark green etc. The base can be jelly to cremes and anything in between.

So please any recommendations!!!

I think my boyfriend is trans.

My boyfriend and I have been together for four years. We’re also a little older than I think would be the norm for something like this (I am 30 and he’s 37).

He’s always been a little feminine, he has waist length hair and would wear somewhat androgynous clothing when we met. Like women’s sweaters or blouses with jeans or rompers. He has his ears pierced and would occasionally wear earrings. He is naturally petite (5’6 and 130lbs) so he would get misgendered when we were out and about on basically a weekly basis. He’s always maintained that he is cis and straight. I had no reason but to take him at face value.

Pretty quickly after we met he got a job in construction and he started presenting more a lot masculinely. So he grew a mustache, started wearing big boots and T shirts, and cargo pants etc. He threw away all his old clothes. I didn’t care either way but to be honest he does seem consistently depressed and has put a lot less effort into himself as of late. Wearing clothes full of holes, not leaving the house. He used to go tanning, running and pick out new outfits. Now he’s wear the same basketball shorts for days on end.

He always picks female characters in video games or female characters for gaming icons. And he says he prefers dating bi women such as myself.

Sex has always been terribly awkward for us. It’s been tough to initiate or even continue at times. Eventually a couple weeks ago when we stopped half way through I just said “it feels like you’re holding back on me. It’s as if we’re having sex for the first time, every time and you’re trying to be normal. I never feel like you’re letting go fully”.

He sheepishly told me about a fantasy he had where there was a cuckold scenario but he was the girl and I would be the “other guy” having sex with him and we were cheating together on an imaginary person. So we tried that and sex actually went well for the first time like ever.

So then he kept asking for me to pretend he was a girl during sex. Treating him like I would as if I were with an ex girlfriend. Suddenly instead of him being shy quiet terrible missionary sex he was using dirty talk, and was a lot more relaxed and enthusiastic.

I kind of assumed this was a fetish thing and when I did ask about it he said it really didn’t mean anything that role play is just fun.

Then at the store while I was picking out soda and asked him to pick up something heavy for me. He said “isn’t that what boyfriends do? I’m your girlfriend remember?” and kind of laughed. I didn’t know what to say in the moment and picked up the case of soda.

When we got home I asked him if he was trans. He got upset with me saying that if anything he’s genderfluid but would never ever transition. I asked if he would be happier as a woman or if he would go on HRT. He got really defensive and asked me to stop talking about it. That I’m way getting ahead of myself and it’s stressing him out I would even assume something so intense like that. That sure in a perfect world if both of our parents were gone and we lived somewhere like San Francisco and had an accepting friend group but as it stands he likes having a penis.

….the thing is I am friends with two trans women and we know a lot of trans people. We have a very queer friendly social group. I have refrained from talking to them about any of this.

He then said that he just feels like he’s both and he’s been neglecting his feminine side because of his job for too long. That he feels more like both but again wouldn’t ever transition.

I’m not really sure how to go about this. I guess just be supportive? I’m feeling uneasy about him not knowing who he is for this long but also I really wouldn’t mind if he transitioned or didn’t. It’s just all very new.
