The feeder was supposed to attract hummingbirds. Technically, it worked. It also attracted this unemployed gentleman.
He doesn’t actually attack them or even try to chase them. He just sits there and watches them like it’s his favorite TV show.
Where to put an extra 2k a month with a 6.625% mortgage
Recasting my mortgage this week and the monthly payment will drop from 5k to 3k. I’ll owe 480k once the recast is completed. It’s a 30 year mortgage at 6.625%, and we took it out this past April.
This will free up 2k a month. We already have a 1 year emergency fund in a HYSA, 401ks are maxed each year, and household income is around 325k.
Right now I’m deciding between the following:
- Invest 2k a month into low cost index funds; or
- invest 1k a month into low cost index funds and put the other 1k toward mortgage principal.
I’m having a hard time passing up what is basically a guaranteed 6.625% return by paying down the mortgage. It also makes my head hurt thinking about how much interest I’m going to pay over 30 years if I just let the loan ride.
Long term returns from investing are attractive, and investing rather than aggressively paying down a mortgage has worked out better historically. I know past performance doesn’t guarantee future performance, but I also don’t want to give up decades of compounding and liquidity by throwing too much cash at the house.
Curious what you would do in this situation, any of the two options above or something else entirely?
Help me make a difficult decision: High on Fire, Windhand, and Penury OR Mastodon, Deafheaven, and Alcest
This isn’t a hypothetical. They’re playing the exact same night and I actually have to buy a ticket to just one of them.
Seeing High on Fire in Santa Cruz the next night isn’t an option because I already have plans with my wife that night.
I prefer High on Fire to Mastodon, but I prefer Alcest to High on Fire. But it looks like Alcest will have a short set.
I’m not particularly into Deafheaven.
I’ve never seen Windhand, but I like what I’ve heard and would definitely rather see them than Deafheaven.
I’m not familiar with Penury (yet).
What one would you pick & why?
This article says more teens and young women are buying into the tradwife thing. Are you actually seeing that with Gen Z, or is this mostly journalists finding a few viral influencers and pretending it’s a generational trend?
I don’t understand the appeal of the tradwife thing, but I’m curious how much of this is actually happening among Gen Z. Are more young women actually interested in it or just a relatively small number of influencers getting enough attention that it looks like a much bigger cultural shift than it really is?

[US] Is this a scam? Repeated callers ask for someone else, apologize, and hang up when I say wrong number
Unfortunately, I'm in a situation where I can't just ignore unknown numbers on my work cell because I never know if it could be a client or something urgent from someone who isn't in my contacts.
Lately l've been getting calls asking for someone named Tina. I'm a guy, so it's obvious when I answer that I'm not Tina. It's also been a few different numbers by now. Each time I tell them they have the wrong number, they apologize, say they'll make a note of it, and hang up. They never tell me who they're calling from or what they actually want.
That's what makes me wonder if this is even a scam?
Usually scammers are trying to sell you something or get something out of you, and even if you're not the person they asked for, they'll pivot into whatever crap they're peddling. These people don't. They just accept that I'm not Tina and end the call.
So what exactly could this be? It seems like a weird amount of effort for a scammer to make repeated calls just to hang up once they realize they have the wrong person.
Just moved out of Hayward and disappointed to have missed the goat invasion of my former condo complex
Who are safer drivers, men or women?
For those of you hissing at that Uber option, it should be noted that it was designed by a woman.
My wife bought heating pad, but our SIC claimed it. Neither of us had the heart to evict him.

youtu.beAstral Tales – Orphans of the Rain (feat. Persha) [Darkwave / Synthwave] (2024)
Love this song and was shocked to see it only had double digit views. Definitely worth a listen.
You all make me feel like a lightweight with the insane Rakuten payouts I see on here
My puny little 24,946 MR points finally transferred. Still proud of it though!
Covid gave us one of the greatest Azazel performances ever
The rest of the band is playing to an empty venue (because of Covid restrictions) while Satanachia does the vocals from his couch while drinking beer.
Ballistic - Call me Evil (2003)
Great song off a great album, which I’m unfortunately not able to find anywhere outside of YouTube. Definitely worth checking out if you missed it.
