What are the important mechanics in a city builder game?

Hey guys, I've been playing a city builder game and I've really fallen in love with the genre and want to build my own.
I want to make a city and country builder, starting from the medieval ages until a futuristic era. You build a city, later a couple of cities and later an entire country, you can appoint ministers and governors to run and build things automatically once it's too much for 1 person. You can also choose your economical ideology, a spectrum that goes from free market capitalism to state socialism.
Your country can be invaded, fall into civil war or prosper like no other.

I want to make a game where people can sink hundreds of hours into a single save file.

Steam recognized my pirated game and added the legit store to my library. Can this get me banned?

https://preview.redd.it/a6err84r12kh1.png?width=1868&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a01f30ef11f97917f58906878b6f0b17e2aa89a

As the title says, I downloaded the game and launched it through steam since I need proton to make it work.

It logged the time and even cloud status, but the play button has been switched to a purchase button (like when you refund a game you have downloaded).

Can this affect my account?

Would dual booting with windows 10 save me some of the headaches of dual booting?

I'm currently running kubuntu with a win10 VM, I want to switch to debian but also have a win10 partition because I need it for school.

Other than VS and MS SQL Server, I wont be using my win10 partition for anything else, I plan on giving it 70GB and the rest to Debian.

Every time I see discussion about dual booting, there's a very loud group of people saying how annoying windows is with updates, and how updates tend to break grub, so would a win10 partition save me from that? or would it be the same?

How come everyone got a shitty victus but me?

I see it everywhere, people complaining about the laptop, the hinge, the battery, the reliability.

I've owned for close to 2 years now, and I haven't found anything worth complaining, and it's also used.

A guy from uni however, bought one new, got edge burn 1 month in, and the laptop short circuited like 4 months in.

I'm losing more and more social skills/life and I don't know how to counteract this, any tips?

Since 2024 my social life has been on a decline, first I moved highschools and got broken up, effectively breaking all contact with my acquaintances and friends from said HS barring 1.
Afterwards, in my 2nd HS I did manage to make a small group of friends, but we were the odd ones, so not much socializing was done.
Now I'm in uni, moved cities so contact with my HS friends is very sparse, and now I have a group of acquaintances that are not the type of people I'd like to be my friends, but since I'm too much of a pussy and so scared of being alone I haven't had the balls to cut contact, so other than my uni "friends", I have 2 other people in this city to hangout with, something that happens once every blue moon.

With all of this, my texting with these people has pretty much been null, I get maybe 5-10 messages between 2 friends and that's it for the day, since 2025 texting has been drying up a lot, and this year I haven't really had any genuine conversion (outside family) and it's starting to get more depressing than it already was.

I could manage low social interactions irl, because I always found some refuge in texting and calling my childhood friends and they'd always respond and text back, but since everyone now is too busy starting their lives, meeting new and better people and focusing on their studies, I feel sidelined by pretty much everyone.

I feel even more pathetic now that even online friends and tight-knit communities feel impossible for me to achieve. I'm starting to feel very hopeless and that I will lose all social interactions because I'm too much of a loser to get out there and socialize, I feel especially pressed when I'm in a social event or place (sports/movies/parks) all alone, and all I can think is how miserably my life has become these past few years.

What could I possible do to reverse this? or at least counteract it?

Is there any significant difference between continuous sleep and segmented sleep?

I'm contemplating segmenting my sleep schedule in 2 main blocks. 02:00 - 6:00 and 16:00 - 19:00 or 20:00.

At first I sleep until 02:00 because I'm building a heavy SWE project and I stayed up that first night, but after a second night I noticed I was a bit more productive at night working when it's cooler than at the afternoon where the temperature reaches the 40s.

Are there any health risks to doing this?? I know it's only sustainable for as long as my afternoons are "free"

Looking to hop into another Debian based distro.

Hey all, I'm using Kubuntu, which has been great 90% of the time, but all the stuff that cannonical is pushing is just convincing me of hopping to another distro.

Debian based because I like it just like that, should I get Debian straight-up or is there another one you'd recommend?

I've never smoked before and I think I should start.

hey, I'm looking for ways to cope with life and trees are starting to look very attractive, from what ik (which is very little), mj is calming and can take your mind off things for some time.

Should I get a pen? I don't really want to bother with anything that needs a lighter since I want to keep this a secret from anyone. I'm worried about short term health detriments, like headaches or nausea. How is the high? Do you hallucinate shit or just take a backseat in your mind?

thx in advance

Anyone else just completely unable to enjoy or feel ASMR with earbuds? [Discussion]

Not sure if it's just me, but no matter the trigger, creator, type of earbud (IEM, BT, open) I can't feel a single thing, most times I end up getting annoyed by the sound.

I can only really enjoy ASMR with headphones, anyone else?

The Avarathian separatist movement. From it's beginning to the contemporary day.

Hey everybody, this is a bit of a writing exercise to get some lore of my world out there, feel free to read and tell me your thoughts and opinions :)
The images are the terrain of the world, the flag and the coat of arms.

In the 16th century over 80% of the population of Faralina lived east of the Avarathian mountain range. Historically and culturally, the Faralinian people where tied to this area; the first settlements were built after nomadic life had come to an end, the Faralinian people had gained independence from their oppressors and the folklore of the kingdom had developed a sort of permanence to this area.

However, the lands west of the mountains were a goldmine of farmland, vast plains and year-round rain covered the region, but crossing the mountain range wasn't an easy task, and with the notable exception of Aguila, a settlement of around 15 thousand inhabitants, not many people were interested in making the journey, as they felt satisfied with the current agricultural scene.
In 1542, a devastating flood hit the eastern region, destroying over 90% of the farms and killing up to two hundred thousand of people, devastating the kingdom. King Rogerfruth II saw a bleak future if the country didn't recover quickly, so he formed a plan to settle the western plains. He knew his people could face massive starvation for the following years, so he pivoted the short term subsistence to be satisfied by fishing and husbandry and moved the capital to Aguila while the people settled the western plains to prepare the lands for grazing and cultivation.

As a way to propel this development further, Rogerfruth II invited the Avarathian Catholics that populated much of the south of the continent to settle these lands.
The continental south had been engulfed in a violent and oppressive religious war between Catholics, Protestants and Muslims that had been raging out since the beginning of the century, many refugees from all religions seeked refugee in Faralina, and while Protestants and Muslims were forced to aid the reconstruction of the eastern region, the Catholics accepted Rogerfruth II's invitation and arrived to the northern plains to aid in the preparation of the land and settle the vast uninhabited area.

Although hundreds of thousands suffered through food shortages and short-spanned starvation, Rogerfruth II avoided a massive famine that would've killed over a million people in the kingdom had he not formulated "The Recovery Plan".

For the following century, most of the Avarathian people remained in the northern plains, with settlements spanning from the ocean to the western "Hook" Lake to the eastern mountain range. the Avarathians had brought with themselves their culture, folklore and customs. Slowly they started to concentrate their population in the north-west of the kingdom and became the majority in the area.

In 1668, Faralina became engulfed in its own religious war between Catholics and Protestants, who seeked the expulsion of the other and consolidation of power in the country, for the entire century, occasional periods of deep violence and massacres hit the country, as Catholics and Protestants exchanged power; kings came and went, armies changed allegiance, people converted, but in the middle of all the bloodshed, the Avarithian people stayed true to their form, remaining Catholic and their lands became a bastion of safety for those persecuted by Protestant authorities.
In 1743, protestants had consolidated all power in the country, with the exception of the Avarithian lands, now recognized as "The Avarithian Region" or simply, "Avarithia". King Kettler I recognized the importance of this region, and following rumors of Avarithian secession, Kettler I meet with local leaders and promised Avarithia would thrive of limited autonomy and could remain Catholic as long as the previous agricultural and economical models would remain in place, ensuring the best outcome for all parties.
At the wake of the industrial revolution, a large push for a secular state and freedom of religion had engulfed the country and eventually entered the parliament, where several reforms were executed, allowing the religious tensions all over the country to finally boil down.

For the following 2 centuries, Faralina and the Avarithian people collaborated greatly and a small process of unanimous integration started to occur. Spanish, the Avarithian language, became formally recognized by the parliament, typical foods and music started to be shared all across the country. Many Faralinians emigrated to the north, while many Avarithians emigrated to the south, as the industrial heartland of the country started to take place south of the mountain range.

However, in the late 19th century, support for the monarchy started to rapidly fall down, the people no longer wanted a singular permanent head of state, instead they wanted to pivot towards a full presidential democracy. Many Avarithians, conservative as they were, believed this system would only bring down the country and diminish much of the representation in parliament that they fought hard for.
In 1932, King Richmond VI began "The Democratization Process", where an elected president would govern the country, along the already democratically elected parliament. Many electoral reforms where brought up in this period, such as universal suffrage, parliamentary restructuring, regional and local elections, and reaffirmation of Avarithian autonomy.

In 1952 Faralina became a republic and the first president, Johnathan Royal, was half Avarithian and fiercely advocated for further integration of Avarithian culture in Faralina.
Although certain pieces of culture and customs had been shared before, many of the most important pieces of it had been rejected, ignored or outright ridiculed by many, including some in government, this had greatly angered the Avarithians, spawning the modern nationalist movement that we see today.

In 1974, over 12,000 students of the regional unversity of Avarithia protested across the biggest cities for several mistreatments of the Avarithian people, including unequal representation, economical marginalization, discrimination, and a few cases of police violence. This protests started accumulating more and more supporters and by the end of the year, an estimated 2.7 million people, both Avarithian and Faralinian joined the Avarithian cause.
For the following years, many of the social issues would be addressed by the parliament and the president, but the cracks where already too big to fill, in 1975, an armed wing of Avarithian nationals formed; named "El Ejercito Avarico Liberador" (The Avarithian Liberation Army) or simply the "EVL", they started meeting the national police force at protests in the Avarithian region, initially they only employed tactics of defense, allowing protestors to continue or to flee to safety when things turned south. However in 1977 several cops opened unauthorized fire to protestors, killing 15 and injuring over 100 Avarithians, including children. From this moment forward, the EVL started employing guerrilla tactics against national/Faralian forces; several hit and run attacks as well as raids on the Faralinian Army barracks were carried out between 1977 and 1983, EVL forces also started taking control of smaller towns and localities in the periphery of bigger cities as a way to pressure national and regional authorities.
Between this period, over 6,300 EVL forces died and around7,100 National forces died, also close to 1000 civilians had also died because of the conflict.
For many in Faralina, Avarithian independence seemed inevitable, the EVL was recruiting close to 200 people a day at its peak; freedom fighters, medics, propagandists, recruiters, moles and financiers were joining the cause daily; by 1985, it was estimated that the EVL had between 7000 and 11000 fighters, and over 3 times that number in logistical support.

However, in 1988, Avarithian Joaquin Echeverria was elected president in an unprecedented turn of events, and he started working immediately for a more permanent solution to the conflict. He met personally with EVL and Avarithian leaders to work out a deal, and after months of negotiations, "El Tratado por el Reconocimiento de las y los Avaricios" or "The treaty for the Acknowledgement of the Avarithian People" was signed. Avarithian culture was integrated into Faralia in a respectful manner, their holidays were recognized, Spanish was to be taught at every school across the country, political representation on all level of government was to be reformed, and The Avarithian region was granted complete and full autonomy. Avarithia now only has to send a singular yearly payment towards the national government, it has the correct amount of seats in the parliament and the Avarithian region was expanded to include peripheral areas where a majority are Avarithian.

In 1991, the EVL was formally disbanded; however, many cells of armed forces still remain to this day, most of them still fighting under the EVL banner and seeking complete separation from Faralina; they operate differently depending on the cell. Some operate on a more militaristic way, taking control of towns, highways and railways and fighting with national and Avarithian forces; others expel local authorities to form their own. Many towns and localities all over Avarithia and some in Faralina are controlled by EVL cells by force. But some cells approach a more political or popular form, bringing aid to distant communities and forming bonds with local authorities.

As of 2026, it is estimated that there are a little under 2000 active separatist fighters, and between 2020 and 2025, 32 deads were related to separatist actions with over 100 arrests carried out against cell leaders.
Today the government has chosen a more underground approach to the issue with Avarithian authorization and collaboration, implanting moles in the most violent cells and working silently to bring them down, while reaching for deals with the most pacifist cells.

How is the WEC experience compared to F1??

I went to COTA in 2024, had an awesome time, but it was packed to the brim with people and everything was super expensive.

The tickets and hotels are considerably cheaper, so I'm starting to consider going next year but I have some questions.

are the grandstands first come first serve?
Do I have to pay for parking?
Are food and merch cheaper than in an F1 weekend?
What's the experience any good?

thx
