Just finished Voyager and I'm speechless.

New trek watcher here, Just finished TNG, then subsequently watched Voyager. I went into voyager not really expecting to like it that much, but by the end of it, I became more fond of Janeway than Picard.

Janeway's role as mentor to Seven completes her character, while simultaneously introducing one of the most interesting characters in all of Trek, Seven. I adore Data, but I feel like Seven is a more thoughtful interpretation of a lot of the same ideas that were conveyed by Data's character. Seven's first season flew by, because it had some of the best character moments in Trek. Also Seven's episode with the other individual drone made both me and my partner cry real tears.

I would cry real tears if we got Star Trek: Janeway. I hate that we didn't get a single Janeway movie. Next on the menu is DS9, which I'm looking forward to, but also sort of nervous for, because it will be my first venture into non-episodic trek.

Season 4-7 of Voyager is some of the best of Trek.

New trek watcher here, Just finished TNG, then subsequently watched Voyager. I went into voyager not really expecting to like it that much, but by the end of it, I became more fond of Janeway than Picard. Season 1-3 were pretty great, but I feel like 4-7 was on par with the best of TNG.

If you are on the hunt for houseplants, check Fred Meyer right now.

Fred meyer has really nice big plants for $25 right now. Same size at down to earth would be like $50+. Had someone at work inform me, and we bought like 5. Thought i’d pay it forward and pass on the info

Best way to acquire furniture in eugene?

Ive been going to practically every thrift store in town pretty frequently, but the prices places like saint vinny’s have are absurd. Even facebook marketplace has gotten out of hand. Ive had some luck just going around student apartments that are being cleaned out though.

Any other suggestions?

What do y’all do when someone brings up politics you don’t agree with?

I usually sort of smile and nod, but it can be difficult sometimes. Some people say some truely heinous stuff. Last one i ran into was just a conspiracy nut, so not as big of a deal, but ive definitely heard some offensive stuff in my short time driving.

Do carts lose potency as they get low on oil, or do I just get strain fatigue?

My partner and I are mostly cart people these days. Something we’ve both noticed recently is toward the end of a cart we aren’t getting very high anymore. We recently have been buying multiple carts at once to keep ourselves from getting burnt out. Im not sure if it’s making much of a difference though.

So now im wondering if reheating the oil every time you hit a cart maybe makes it lose it’s potency. Any thoughts?

Not sure if ive seen our archetype on this sub yet.

Should be interesting.

Red cabbage, gai lan, carrots, parsely, broccoli and cilantro in the produce drawer.

One of the perks to living downtown!

Literally walked a fews blocks from my house to get a treat and was greeted by this. I love these parties. If anybody knows the name of the group or the piece they are playing, let me know.

Janeway appreciation post

Janeway deserves more love. I just binged TNG for the first time a few months ago, i tried to get into DS9, bounced off. I reluctantly started Voyager. At the time it kind of felt like the ugly middle child of the series, mediocre reviews and not much praise here. I was craving more episodic trek like TNG though.

Mulgrew’s vocal fry was initially grating on me, but the first season started strong compared to TNG. Slowly she grew on me even when the episodes were kind of meh.

Im midway through season 5 and I think I like Janeway at least as much as i like Picard. Sure she doesn’t wax poetic like Picard does, but her approach to captaining the voyager is so comforting. I feel like the crew really trusts her and sees her as family vice versa, but she’s also stern when she needs to be.

Most of all, her relationship with 7 of 9 is so moving. Her immovable faith in her is part of what I think makes Janeway so great.

Rosin is an overrated concentrate for yuppies

Ive been smoking and dabbing for going on 15 years, and no trend has irritated me as much as rosin, (diamonds a close second). Ive tried several grams of rosin from several brands from different tiers (eugreen, focus north, olio). Ive always been disappointed. My mom who also smokes got convinced to buy some and had the same reaction.

Every time i tell a budtender who’s into rosin that i don’t like it, they react like i just spoke blasphemy in the church.

Is it impossible to get friends together to game once you hit 30?

29, coming up on 30, and It feels more and more impossible to just get people to play a game together. I don't even remember the last time we all were invested in a game at once other than the recent friendslop. My friend group is constantly no-showing when we were supposed to hangout that night, and then half of the time when they do show up they just yap for an hour on a call and then everyone says "alright i got work in the morning, im gonna head out".

I'm literally at the point where I will literally play anything my friends put in front of me. I don't care I just want to do something together. The pattern has been, one friend will be really interested in something, ill say "fuck yeah lets play it", we start it up, and then everyone except the person who brought up the game whines about it until we drop it. One of my friends seems to be on his way toward dropping gaming completely because of this, im pretty sure.

I don't know if its just everyone is exhausted from their 9-5, having kids, etc, but its really starting to bum me out. Probably screaming into the void here, but i needed to vent. I feel like the last person in my friend group who actually likes gaming and im tired of buying steam games that I will play for one night and then never open again.

Favorite desserts in town?

Recently have been occasionally treating myself to a sweet treat. I recently discovered Pastelleria Colin’s Tres leches cakes, and they have been phenomenal (highly recommend).

What is your favorite dessert in Eugene when you want to treat yourself?

Movies that use the Uncanny Valley like Obsession?

Something that Obsession did that I'm absolutely obsessed with (no pun intended) is the Unvanny Valley horror. The freaky makeup job that they did for Nikki in the night scene, the movements she does, the faces she makes. It's like my absolute favorite new thing with horror now. Curry does it in Warnings as well really effectively, I think

Other than pulse obviously which Obsession pulls a ton of inspiration from, what are some horror movies or even horror content that I should watch or play?

What was it like to watch early star trek as it was coming out?

In the current world full of remakes and sequels, there's not too many revolutionary original ideas. Did watching early star trek feel as revolutionary as I imagined it did?

Consider not bringing up sexual topics with your uber driver.

The amount of times people have brought up inappropriate topics in my car is crazy. None of them have been trying to hit on me, but they always go into way too much detail about their sex lives or other sexual topics.

I am your uber driver. I don’t know you, and i’m practically hostage to these conversations. Im going to start rating people one-star and blocking them. I don’t want to hear about your last lay in excruciating detail.
