Guitarist look to get into bass/ Yamaha TRBX 304

Guitarist here, but lately I've really wanted to pick up bass since I have always been a sucker for a good bass line and would like to be able to play and potentially write some of my own. I would be playing a little bit of everything, but soul, funk, and disco is what inspires me most to learn bass. Really just want something versatile. Sweetwater is recommending a trbx304 by Yamaha how does everyone else feel about this pick? My SE has the same information as you guys do. Also, if any other guitarist have also picked up bass, what should I know?

To those whose primary language is not their native one

Does anything from your native language ever bleed into your primary one? Like maybe slang/informal or sayings you find your self translating over? Basically is there anything you've kept from your native language that isn't a thing/doesn't make sense in your primary language?

Completely offline

I’ve made a commitment to get rid of home internet but like Linux. Is there anyway possible way I can get a Linux machine and use it without ever going online besides installing a few programs an offline music player that fits my needs, word processor/spreadsheet maker and a DAW (taking suggestions)

Can I still be a songwriter if I can't sing to save my life???

Literally the title. I've always had a way with words, love music and am a multi instrumentalist but I can't sing well, at all. It's like I go to sing and suddenly I'm as tone deaf as a rock. Can this even work? I was always told you needed to be able to sing, obviously you don't have to be great or good but there needs to something to reference. Is it possible to be a songwriter and not have a singing bone in your body? Like I know lyricists are a thing but I'd want to be involved with everything yanno, not just the lyrics.

You should actually put in effort at work

Not saying you need to be those guys who works a million hours a week or whatever but I do think you should put in a solid effort in the time you are there. You can have small conversations with coworkers while working or take a few minutes to chat if it doesn't make you get behind but some people seemingly go out of their way to not do anything and honestly kinda disrespectful to your other coworkers when they have to pick up your slack. Basically, just pull *your* weight. Obviously everyone has bad days but you shouldn't be going in to work with the goal of doing nothing since you know others will have to pick up your slack.

Should I hire someone to be my autistic brother's friend?

I'm willing to do whatever it takes to allow my brother to feel like he has a friend but if he ever finds out they're a hired gun so to speak it'll devistate him. Real No Hard Feelings vibes except not romantic.

TL;DR should I hire someone to be my brother's friend

Another birthday alone

Luckily, this is the last one I'll ever have to go through. Hope everyone has had a wonderful day, if you have family, friends or other loved ones, give them a hug and tell them you love them. No one is any good alone, and we all want to be reminded someone cares.

Need someone to hangout with my autistic little brother for his birthday

It was technically today but tomorrow will work. I just can't make it out to Athens to spend time with him. He's 30 like trains, sonic, music, cats, and Scooby doo. I will pay for someone to be his friend just don't want to see him so sad. He also can't know that I am doing this. I just want him to have a friend. It will be in public so no need to worry about going to a strangers home or having a stranger in yours. He also loves feeding ducks!

Apps for ringtones?

Not clips from music but just ringtones/notification sounds. I like hearing a sound when I get a notification or someone calls me but don’t like any options that my phone provides.

USB c dac for phones

Looking for a USB C dac to use with my phone. I want to be able to power pretty much everything including planar stuff. I listen to flax files via power amp on android primarily but do still use Apple Music for finding new music. Don’t want to spend more than $75 and under $60 if possible

everyone talks to me like I am mentally deficient

Like people always seem *overly* nice to me as you would with a child. Too much praise for doing/knowing the absolute minimum. Sure you could think its just their personalities but no its only with me. I literally dont understand.

My cat *HATES* being 5

I really didn’t think tortitude was a thing until she turned 5. She has suddenly become a smol ball of pure rage. She was always so sweet and loving- apparently that just stop when you’re a cat and turn 5 I guess. Since turning 5 here is what’s happened.

She has discovered she can use her paws as agents of mayhem and proceed to get mad at me that she broke 4 mugs in a row. I didn’t even know she could get up there. So apparently she turned 5 and could magically just jump after years of just pulling herself on to stuff but she’s small so couldn’t get on much.

She has attacked me multiple times a day ever since I told her she couldn’t sleep in the trash can. Got one with a little foot switch to avoid it, she figured it out. Which is weird coming from a cat whose preferred entertainment was licking windows for an hour before catching her reflection and get freaked out and run away. Or chewing on rocks when she was allowed to go outside (she can’t anymore because she broke 4 teeth in a 3 month window bc yanno chewing rocks)

Figured maybe it was a medical thing causing her to act out, so took her to the vet. Nope. Perfectly fine. Was an absolute angel the hold time. Let the vet pick her up and everything. Literally the first person (and time) I’ve ever seen be allowed to do that.

Anyway rant over just wtf man why she do me like this :(

wtf am I missing with this new Charli XCX album?

Just want to start off by saying I’ve been a fan of Charli since True Romance so I’m not a hater or someone who hopped about the brat bandwagon. I just don’t get album. I’ve done 3 listens now and only ever really come back to 2 or 3 tracks (SS26, Wink, Wink and Magic Metal Montana) That being said, I really like those tracks and are some of the better stuff she’s released. I can’t say the others are *bad* but they certainly don’t inspire much joy or awe either. Crazier thing is it all works as an album- nothing feels out of place so there was clearly some sort of vision here and I get it but man it just seems like a classic case of good idea, mid (in the literal sense) execution.

Am I just out of the loop or do The Kinks not get the love they deserve.

Their music has aged incredible and has the rather nice quality where they both sound of their time but also so timeless. Like, I’m you put together some of their material and told me it was your roommate in Brooklyn’s new band I wouldn’t really second guess it.

Best Discographies?

So basically I want to start diving into new (to me) artist’s discographies. Start to finish, ideally in one sitting. I have already more or less done this with the artists I listen to the most, so this is doubling as a way to find new artists. I’d also be willing to post short text reviews of each album if you guys are interested. Here’s a few things to know/ what I’m looking for.

  1. The ideal discography length for our purpose is 3-5 albums. If an artist has only 1 or 2 albums and/or EPs, please mention that as I will probably combine those with another artist or two releases. Any discographies longer than 5 releases (unless total run time is under 5 hours) will be split into sections with each section containing no more than 5 albums.

  2. I’m open to any and all genres. My Favorites are Pop, Alternative, and varying other sub-genres of rock and metal.

  3. Ideally, I’d listen to these discographies in chronological order. If for whatever reason that should *not* be the case, let me where to start.

If you guys seem interested I can try and make this a little more organized and possibly separate from this subreddit. If I’m fortunate enough for that to be the case, I’d need everyone’s help for the best way to move forward.
