Got lectured for doing a good job at work

I’m a massage therapist who works at a chiropractic clinic. Before I begin this story I would like everyone to respectfully keep their feelings around chiropractic to themselves as it’s not the point of the post of story and I’ve had people lose the plot just because they don’t believe in it. I work there because it pays well at an office like that.

I’ve been massaging there for over a year and I’ve gotten my fair share of patients who would like to rebook with me and tell the front desk that they only want their treatments with me. It could be for many reasons; some prefer my style of massage, some are more comfortable with me since I’m the only female massage therapist but a big one is because another massage therapist I work with is heavy handed and occasionally leaves bruises on people. I have a style where I can help people feel relief without being rough. The front desk understands patient preferences and comfortability levels with certain therapists so they usually honor their requests. Another thing to note, is that I will never bad mouth another therapist to a patient no matter how unlikeable they are. I encourage patients to explore other massage styles but if they want to stick with me, my treatment room is always open to them.

Last week I started working in another location as requested by the regional manager. He said that he wanted to give the patients a break from the other massage therapist’s styles that were vigorous and not relaxing. He said that my techniques could benefit everyone there. So I start with a sweet lady who doesn’t speak much English and seems very hesitant to get massage. I greet her in her language (that nobody else in the office speaks) and ask her what she’s feeling and gets started. I check in on her the whole way and she seems to like it. I finish massaging her and she asks my name. I tell her and she said thank you so much and goes to the front desk. She requests me to the front desk, which again is something I can’t control. If she wants to rebook with me, cool if not then also cool.

They tell her I’m not available next week and she gets booked with someone else. She leaves. This Monday I get called in by that location to fill in for another massage therapist. I happen to get the same lady again. Greet her in her language and start on her. Then she says “I asked for you but they told me you weren’t available.” I said that I only work there part time and the rest of my time at another one of our locations. She says okay and I continue. I finish with her, she thanks me again. As I’m cleaning the treatment room I hear her request me again to the front desk. I didn’t hear the front desk response but I go about cleaning.

Then the front desk girl lectures me in front of the WHOLE OFFICE saying in a very belittling tone (she’s 18 and I’m 22) “hey OP, so I just want to make you aware that we do things different here than your other clinic. We don’t let a patient have a choice in who they get to see. It’s not fair to the other massage therapists.” I told her I didn’t do anything, I don’t know where this is coming from and I didn’t tell her to rebook with me. She replied “I know, but the other front desk girl at your clinic says the reason they sent you here is because all of the patient prefer (another LMT) and not you and that’s not fair to you. The patient wants to see someone that speaks her language, but we need to be mindful of everyone else here.” I try to tell her the real reason they sent me here, and that the LMT they speak of isn’t even there so there aren’t any patients flocking to him, business is just slow. But she isn’t giving me any room to speak. She just tells me she’s just letting me know and I just say thanks ok.

It ruined my ENTIRE day. The point of me going there is to give a massage to patients that doesn’t leave them limping in pain and then now when I do that it’s seen as taking away opportunities from other therapists. I feel like if anyone is to be lectured it’s the patient. If it’s such a policy at this location why didn’t the front desk assistant enforce it to her? Or at least ask her what why she didn’t want to see anyone else? What happens between the FDA and patient during scheduling has nothing to do with me. I didn’t even know what this had anything to do with me. So I guess now I have to give semi good massages to avoid getting lectured again 🫩🙄

I regret not letting my boyfriend go see his friend

I (f22) have a boyfriend Mike (m22). I met a mutual friend through Mike we will call Nelson (m23) about 2 years ago before we officially started dating. Mike introduced me to Nelson because he was good company that he met playing video games. Neither of us have met Nelson in person, but he was truly an angel on earth. He lived some states from us and we planned to meet him one day when the time was right. We talked for hours over video games about how Nelson was going to be the best man at our wedding and how we’d meet and drink like there’s no tomorrow.

In May or June of this year, Mike was struggling to find a job after getting out of trade school. Nelson had a good job doing oil in the field and it was very stable and he made quite a name for himself. He had his own car, bought his girlfriend whatever she wanted and just bought a trailer to live in. Nelson offered to let Mike come work and stay with him for a month on a month off. Nelson offered to pay for his way there and offered him a room in his trailer. They both wanted to ask for my permission on it.

I told them both no. But the reason why wasn’t because of distance or jealousy; it was because of Nelson’s relationship problems. Nelson was in a very toxic relationship with a girl he’d been with for less than 2 years. They got into arguments all the time. She constantly picked fights with him and seemed very toxic with him. She was very controlling of who he talked to. She wouldn’t even let him hang out with his brother for more than 2 consecutive days without getting jealous. In my mind, I was thinking what Nelson is offering sounds great. A way for Mike to get on his feet and at the same time meet his friend.

However I was thinking what if Nelson’s girlfriend starts an argument over Mike being there and kicks him out of the house? What if she stirs the pot and tries to involve Mike in their relationship problems just because she’s there? What if she starts treating him like a burden because her man decided to do a good thing? It all seemed pretty dangerous especially because it would be hard for me to help him out of that situation if he’s in a whole different state. So I told them no. My boyfriend understood why I said it, and Nelson respected me but hoped I said yes.

About a month after that, Nelson committed suicide and now I see that he was also crying for help. He needed a friend to be with him through the madness. I wish I had said yes. Now every time my boyfriend gets rejected from a job it makes me think about how there was an opportunity for not just Mike to get on his feet but to save our friend. It’s like a constant reminder of the decisions I made for both of them. I regret not putting my worries aside and remembering life is short. If I knew my friend wouldn’t be here a few months after he asked my answer definitely would’ve changed. I miss him and I feel so sorry.

Edit: I’m getting a lot of hate so let me clarify. My bf and his friend asked for permission. Mike did it because it’s just something you do in a relationship. I didn’t flat out say no, I told both of them I don’t think it’s a good idea. If my boyfriend really wanted to go stay with his friend that badly, then I would’ve been supportive of it. I wouldnt have tried to control him or talk him out of it. Also, as much as my boyfriend wanted to go he knew deep down it might not be a great idea temporarily living with a girl who controls who and when Nelson gets to hang out with people. He also said it didn’t seem like a great idea due to safety although it did seem fun.

Edit 2: Im being flamed for being ‘controlling’ because I was worried about my bfs safety and well being. Nelson’s gf was known for starting arguments over nothing and dragging them on for a while. She also hated anyone/anything to do with me because she knew Nelson and I had known eachother before they started dating, even though I was dating Mike so those feelings would extend to him. I didnt want her to start arguing with Nelson over stupid shit and put Mike out to prove a point. I should’ve also specified, Mike is autistic with a history of trauma related to yelling and arguments. He tends to shut down or try to run away from the situation when he doesn’t want to be around it. That wouldn’t have been healthy for him, nor safe if he’s in a different state with nobody to call for help, no savings, and no other support. Like I said before, Mike was understanding of why I said it wasn’t a great idea. He also thought it wasn’t a great idea for the same exact reasons which was Nelson’s gf.

Final edit: I’m turning off all comments. I didn’t expect to be getting flamed for simply expressing a regret knowing my friend is dead. I’m being made to seem like a controlling girlfriend for the simple fact that I was expressing to my bf how I feel about the situation and he agreed. If he really wanted to go visit his friend, he could’ve. I wouldn’t have held it against him but even he knew he didn’t want to be around a toxic couple for a month straight. Reddit is so full of people who downvote you to the ground if something doesn’t seem ideal to them.

Final edit 2 (lol): I talked to my boyfriend last night. I asked him if he’s angry in any way at me for saying why I don’t think he should go. He said no, and that he wanted me to say no to Nelson similar to the way you ask your parent to say no when a person you don’t enjoy asks to hang out with you. He wanted to go see his friend but not under the circumstance of finding work or staying with him for a month. He said he didn’t want to be away from here and everything he’s ever known and didn’t think Texas was the best place for him to start working because the environment is different from ours. It’s very expensive, very hot, and just not his ideal place to be. He didn’t want to hurt his friend’s feelings and he needed help saying no, I just happened to have already had it in my mind why I thought the answer when asked. He also didn’t want to be caught in a situation with Nelson and his gf and one of the things he was worried about is the gf being crazy enough to accuse him of something like assault just because she doesn’t get her way. We don’t really know how crazy she was and didn’t want to find out.

To the people telling me that the only reason he shouldn’t go is if gf is physically abusive, FUCK no. Yes, Mike is a big strong man that can overpower her if she were abusive but then what? Imagine she called the police and he ended up going to jail for defending himself? It’s not right no matter how you think about it. And to the people saying that now I have to comfort Mike for a lifetime because I didn’t let him see his friend, fuck all the way off. This isn’t on me. We didn’t know he was going to die in a few weeks nor is it my fault he did. Mike and I have each others backs in this but he assured me I did nothing wrong even apologizing himself for asking me to reinforce a ‘no’. But knowing Reddit logic, people would just say he needs to be a man and tell his friend no on his own and say I need to break up with him over this. I don’t and I got my clarity.

We need to stop sheltering old people so much

What I mean by this is we need to stop watching what we say around old people. To stop worrying about what old people think.

For example I saw a video of a girl saying she needs to take down all her ‘offensive’ house decor before her grandma shows up because her grandma is hyper religious. This included pictures of her and her boyfriend, hiding liquor bottles, putting away funny mugs and hiding clothes that weren’t handmaids tale dresses.

I also saw another girl say she had to give her mom a ride so she had to play no music in the car just in case the music had themes of drugs, obscenities or cuss words. She had to put on a bigger shirt to not show her shoulders. She had to put on foundation to cover up tattoos.

It just has me thinking….old people weren’t born yesterday. They had sex and had their fair share of curse words. They were around others who may have done similar things. Alcohol and tattoos aren’t anything new. My parents use to work in nursing homes and told me all kinds of stories where old people would have sex with eachother. They’d shout racial slurs at staff and say every cuss word they could think of. That may not be every old person but at the end of the day old people are still adults and have lived a long life of sinning as well. We need to stop pretending they’re innocent and being so protective of what they think and what they’ll say.

Edit: I forgot to say, it’s not a matter of old people not cussing in front of young people, it’s a matter of old people getting offended by everything they don’t like and making it known. It’s easier to tell your old relative to stop pointing out something they don’t like and complaining about it than hiding your true self just because you’re worried about what they’ll say. They say the younger generation is soft when they can’t stand seeing a woman with a nose piercing.

Edit 2: obviously I’m not talking about ALL old people. I can’t believe I need to say that. I’m talking about the ones who act like they’ve never heard the word fuck. The ones who act like they don’t know what sex is when they have had 8 children. The ones who clutch their pearls when they see 2 men kiss or someone with a sleeve tattoo.

The internet is such a toxic place.

I’ve been trying to curate my feed but it seems like even positive posts get hate for some reason.

On TikTok last week I saw a lady posting about how her and her bf got her first apartment together. Sounds positive and wholesome right? I go to the comments to congratulate her and the top most liked comment isn’t a compliment. It’s not even a ‘friendly tip’. It’s someone saying ‘the same hand that feeds you will also starve you’ with a girl crying as the sticker. I commented back that everyone should just be happy for the girl and that she probably already knows this given how putting anything on the internet about a man gets more negative attention. I was met back with other miserable people saying it’s only a matter of time before he abuses her and that she needs a job to get herself out of that situation if/when it happens…..as if they assumed she didn’t have a job and was being stupid.

I saw another wholesome post about a girl giving her bf banana bread in the shape of roses. I thought it was so cute and wanted to try it. I opened the comments to tell her they looked amazing and all of them said ‘what does he do for you?’ And ‘he better like them and he better reciprocate everything you do for him.’ It may sound like people are being supportive of these girls who have it going good for them but it’s really all just miserable people who want to spread it.

Today I see someone post about how they’re being forced to use aluminum free deodorant because they ran out of aluminum deodorant. I commented my experience and said aluminum free works fine and doesn’t cause me to smell bad. I’m later met with people saying people just don’t want to tell me I smell bad and I’m thinking it in my own mind. One person even said that I’m lying because I posted a video of myself ‘eating with bums in my bed’ when I just posted a funny video of me eating crab rangoons with my boyfriend in his bed.

People at my job ask to hug me and I’ve even asked them to be truthful if I do smell and they haven’t said anything. They usually tell me I smell good when I walk in because I layer my scents like making sure my body wash, hair cream and perfume smell the same. Then everyone else is saying how they take 3 showers a day and brush their teeth 10 times a day and wear only (insert brand of deodorant, because they think all other brands are pointless) so they know for sure they don’t smell. I didn’t know we were in the hygiene Olympics.

Lastly I’m tired of people saying ‘hope this helps btw!’ And ‘oh that’s not…’ whenever you’re using a product or shopping anywhere. I’m tired of being shamed for not boycotting this or that. I don’t care enough to. I’m not going to panic at the grocery store for hours trying to figure out what brand of cocoa powder is considered ethical to use. The rich are going to get rich with or without my help, so I’d rather not give a fuck and just do what makes me happy. Again, I didn’t know we were in the morally correct Olympics.

The internet is full of people who see a slight shred of happiness and stomp on it. I’m trying to cut back on social media and read more books/short stories but of course it itself is an addiction to stimulate my mind. I’m trying to focus on what I can control like the content I see but it almost feels pointless now.

My sexually abusive ex became a Christian. I’m furious.

I (f22) have an ex from when I was 12 who sexually abused me. I’m not dwelling on a relationship I had when I was 12, I’m traumatized from the things he did to me then.

When I was 12 I was going through it. My parents were about to break up and taking their anger out on me. I had little to no friends and was getting bullied at school. Growing up my grandmother was financially supportive but not very emotionally supportive. She would talk to me about how nobody would ever like me unless they wanted to molest or rape me and that was true to a point. The only time anyone showed romantic interest in me was to take advantage.

I met John (now, m22, was the same age as me when we met) in elementary/middle school. He engaged in a relationship with me. Of course me being 12 I didn’t know much of anything about sex or porn. He exposed me to violent porn and rape fantasies, things I’d never seen. He tried to get me to masturbate over call when I didn’t know what it was. He demanded nudes and said that if I loved him I’d do it. He even asked to get a ‘side ho’ that will send him nudes whenever he wants. When I told him no, he said he was joking and that he only said it so that it would push me to send him nudes. Only he wasn’t joking, and he did it anyway.

Throughout our on and off relationship he cheated on me so many times and I ended up putting out for him (we never had sex I just sent pictures) in attempt for him to stay. My grandmother told me all about the sacrifices women had to make to get their men to be loyal so I thought this situation applied. He was also very suicidal and threatened to kill himself, even going on to faking his death a few times because I didn’t do what he asked.

Eventually when I was 15 he distributed my pictures on his story on Snapchat and I almost killed myself. He didn’t even apologize, he said sorry, I guess I just chose a bad picture to post. Years down the line he tried to talk to me and make up, and he said he couldn’t remember what happened. That I’m making him sound like Satan. The convo of me trying to explain what he did wrong never went anywhere so I stopped trying to explain it to him.

Today I randomly decided to look at his Instagram and I see a Bible quote in his bio and a new woman with him. It was Isaiah something, like be not afraid for I am with you, fear not for I am your god. I was livid and almost threw my phone at the wall. It pissed me off how not only can he just forget everything he did to me, but he can easily cleanse himself of his sins by believing in a god and reading a bible. Meanwhile I have to live with the thought that those images are still in his phone or on the internet. I have to live with the thought that if I refuse my boyfriend sex he for some reason might end up like John and try to kill himself. I have to remember the fear I had if I didn’t look at the porn he showed me or enjoy the fantasies he had.

It’s so unfair. I hate Christian’s and everything they stand for. I hate them even more now that my abuser is one.

Edit: I know now that I shouldn’t have sent pics. I don’t need a lecture. People need to understand that as a child begging for a crumb of love I did what I felt was necessary, and what I had been taught to keep my relationship. I know thousands of people did the same thing not knowing how wrong at was. But please, do not lecture someone when they need a hug

In need of rehoming my hamster, any takers?

This is my last resort here.

My hamster Horchata was gifted to me less than a year ago and he has come up with some medical problems. A few weeks ago I took him to the vet for an abscess on his cheek. Now that that’s gone he has an abscess under his eye. I cannot afford to keep taking him to the vet and it has put a strain on my so I have ultimately decided to rehome him to a trusted and experienced owner.

I believe he is a dwarf hamster maybe a little over a year old. He is very shy but energetic. He does not care to be held or picked up, nor does he care for chew toys or treats but he does spend a lot of time either sleeping, on his wheel or foraging. He is mostly nocturnal and is hardly ever up during the day. He runs on his wheels for hours at a time sometimes.

I’ve tried to locate other resources in the area but most are taking forever or are not taking hamsters. I need help.

This fucking pastor won’t leave me alone

My (f22) boyfriend (m22) occasionally works for a pastor who is a family friend. Since he was a teen she has helped him make a little money since he has always had a hard time finding a job. He helps her around her house and yard, and helps her (let’s call her Piper, f80 something) feed homeless, fix up the church and much more. She’s always been nothing but sweet to me however more recently she’s been pushing me to go to her church and it’s getting on my nerves. I’ve always been an atheist but to appease her I just pretend to go with all her delusions.

About a month ago, my boyfriend and I went to her house to help her with something small and we stayed and talked for a little bit. After I said we were getting ready to go, she said ‘alright so I’ll see you on Sunday?’ I said no because I had work, I really didn’t. She said ‘you work on Sunday? Well you need to go to church, all young people need to stay in church. My church is all about educating young people about the lord and his teachings. So just consider going.’ I said maybe another time and left.

A couple weeks ago my boyfriend told me about how she was asking invasive questions while he was working for her. They were talking about me and my job and all of a sudden she asked if we have intercourse. Obviously my boyfriend lied and said no. She said ‘well one day 10 years down the line when you marry her she’ll realize you weren’t having sex with her out of respect, she needs to understand that.’ He left it at that because she’s just an old head and can’t comprehend anything past a Bible. My boyfriend also joked and said ‘I wish I could’ve told her that I can still respect my girlfriend while I plow her into the sheets’ but I still found it gross that she’d even be comfortable enough to ask that.

Today I went to her house to pick up my boyfriend because he worked for her and we ended up staying an extra hour so that he could finish up. As we were talking she randomly said ‘now that you’re here, you can help us at church this Sunday’ and I said no, I have work. She said ‘excuses, excuses’. Respectfully I only get 2 days off a week, I’m not going to get up early af in the morning just to be somewhere for 4 hours that I don’t want to be. And since I told her I’m working, the fact that she thinks I can just skip work to attend her church is ridiculous.

I only know it’s going to get worse when I get married and even when I’m engaged, she’s a nice lady but I don’t wanna have to just out myself and say I don’t believe her delusions, and make her try to convert me. And also my boyfriend does his best to defend me but with her she doesn’t hear anything she doesn’t want to hear so it would be pointless. I didn’t mean to stay long at her house today, but she told me to call her and said to ‘come to her house and talk’ and it was just about her giving me some antiques she thinks I might like, but now I know not to stay long if I don’t have to anymore just so I don’t have to be spiritually harassed. I am too atheist for this shit.

EDIT: bf is an atheist and acknowledged how deluded and obnoxious she can be

EDIT 2: after all this she invited me and me boyfriend somewhere. She invited us to go with her to a special city 2 hours away, that I love. While the offer is tempting, she mentioned that we’d stay the night there and she’d pay for most of it. I told her that it sounds fun and I’ll consider it but I don’t think I want to go thinking about it all. For one, obviously me and my bf are going to want to share a room and not be sharing a room with her. She’d freak out if me and him slept in the same bed. When I go on trips, I enjoy having a drink. That’s not to say I can’t go without it, but as a grown adult it’s just something I do from time to time. I also don’t want to be on anyone else’s time or not be my true self and have to pretend to be a good Christian girl for a couple days. It’s also at a beach, so she’s going to expect me to dress like a nun while I’m there. At this point I’m just going to tell her I can’t when the time comes
