27 years old and looking to get my shit together. Is it possible?

I'm 27 years old and it's beginning to look like I've been rawdogging ADHD my whole life. I'm sick to death of working retail and a chronic illness prevents me from working most trades. So I'm considering some sort of office job.

The thing is I didn't go to college. I know nothing about computers or stuff like microsoft office, excel, etc. I'm not sure I could even make a spreadsheet.

Is it too late to learn? I'm tired of dealing with shithead customers for minimum wage.

Good trades for someone with a rare hearing condition?

I'm sick to death of retail and I want to do something better with my life. I don't think I'm cut out for an office job (I'm not good with computers anyway) so I'm thinking about finding a trade.

But the thing is that I have rare condition called Hyperacusis. Basically, loud sounds (both sudden and prolonged) can cause me literal pain. This can range from burning pain in my ears to nerve pain in my face. Hyperacusis is a very individual condition and I'm very lucky that mine is managable now, but wasn't always that way, and I can always potentially worsen. Some people have hyperacusis so severe that they're unable to talk.

To manage my condition I avoid bars, concerts, clubs, and other consistently loud places. I always have hearing protection nearby.

So trades like construction, plumbing, welding, etc are no goes for me. Could I handle an hour or so of light hammering? Sure. But not eight hours or more on a construction site. I can't even work a call center job.

Again, this is a medical issue. I'm not being oversensitive, nor do I need to toughen up. I want to find a good trade that I love but I also need to maintain my health. Is there anything out there for me?

Could a horror host work on a streaming service?

I know that Shudder has (or had) Joe Bob Briggs but I feel like that's an outlier since Shudder is geared towards major horror fans. I also know that there are Youtubers and Vtubers with horror personas, aswell as older horror host broadcasts being streamed on Twitch, and that's cool but not really what I mean.

What I'm talking about is a service, let's say Netflix, decides that they want a horror host or it's a passion project for an actor on an original or something and Netflix wants to keep them happy. Could it work? What would it look like? Would it be only for service original films? Would it be an option you could turn on and off?

I feel like part of the charm of those type of characters is the randomness of it. You never know the movie or it's quality until they air. The Twilight Zone loses some charm for me on streaming. Picking and choosing an episode isn't as fun as going in totally blind at two in the morning when you can't sleep.

But, man, I really love the cheap, schlocky nature of horror hosts and I'd love to see one get really big again like Elvira was. Maybe the culture has changed too much for that sort of thing? I don't know. I'm watching Svengoolie tonight and it got me thinking.

If I get terminated from walgreens do I lose my insurance immediately?

I'm on my third write up (please don't ask) and I'm dealing with medical shit. I'm no longer being scheduled so I'm guessing I can be let go at anytime. Do I lose my United Healtcare as soon as they dump me?

Walgreens PTO after termination?

Hi, hoping someone can help me out here. I've been an associate at walgreens for three years and I have a fuck ton of unused PTO. I'm currently using some paid time off atm but, looking my schedule, I have no shifts for three weeks after my vacation is over. I spoke to my manager about this and he said he's "still working on it" but everyone else seems to be scheduled, and someone else is working my usual shift.

I'm on my third write up (the less said about that the better), so I think they're trying to get me to quit. Does anyone know the exact policy in regards to PTO reimbursement? Will quitting as opposed to being terminated affect that at all?

Sheriff of Babylon question.

I just finished The Sheriff of Babylon. It's my first read by Tom King and I found it pretty interesting, especially considering King's past in the CIA. I was a little kid when the war was happening and this made me want to learn a bit more about it.

I was able to follow it just fine except for one thing: who shot at Sophia's car? At first it looked like it was on the orders of Abu Rahim but then it turns out it wasn't.

Was it some random jihadists? The agents looking for Rahim? Someone else entirely?

How loud is a nursing home housekeeping job?

This is kind of a weird ask.

Basically I have an interview tomorrow at a nursing home as a housekeeper. It'd be slightly above minimum wage, is a short commute, and would be a change of pace after years of working retail. I think I'm a good fit but it could be very tricky.

I have Hyperacusis. This is different from Misophonia or mere sound sensitivity. Basically, loud noises (sudden or prolonged) can cause me literal pain. Usually sharp or burning pain in my ears or nerve pain in my face. Because of my condition I avoid bars, clubs, and other loud venues. I also don't listen to radio in the car. Literally everytime I leave my house I'm wearing some form of hearing protection.

Hyperacusis is a very individual condition. Some people have it so severly that they're unable to talk. I'm very lucky to be in a mostly manageble place with it but I'm still limited. I've been able to tolerate (limited) exposure to vaccums and floor buffers at my current job but I'm concerned about noise levels at the nursing home. Alarms, equipment, distressed residents with dementia, etc. But I also think the work would meaningful and I truly need the money. I don't plan on disclosing my condition because it has cost me professional oppurtunities in the past.

On average, how loud is a nursing home gig? Should I look elsewhere?

Always thought it was weird that no one was stabbed with the phurba in Among Theives

So this is very minor and doesn't really matter but I was replaying Among Theives recently and even after beating it for the first time on the PS3 I thought that a golden ritual dagger seemed like an obvious way to kill the bad guy. It's literally a dagger, Lazarevic goes through all sorts of trouble to get it. It would've been ironic for Nate to stab him with it out of desperation while being chocked or something idk. I was waiting for this to end up between someone's ribs and it never happend.

I was also sure that Nate was gonna save Elena via sap from the tree of life but that's a different post.

What's the longest you've been on a library wait list for a book?

I've been waiting for three weeks for a copy of The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. There's only two copies in the system and both are checked out. This is probably the longest I've ever had to wait for a book that wasn't new and/or had a long line of people ahead of me.

It is what it is. I'm not the only reader in the world. But I do wonder what is taking so long. Are they reading the book or are they making love to it? On the up side, I have time to work through my graphic novel backlog.

What's the longest you've ever waited for your turn with a library book?

Grown man here without a car who hates the bus and is sick of uber. Because of space limitations, a foldable bike seems like the best choice for me.

Is it easy to ride for a total newbie? I never learned as a kid.
