Why did they not include Shaft in Africa?

Criterion's release of Shaft is sublime, in part because it had the (not as good but still very fun) sequel Shaft's Big Score. But why did they not include the third film Shaft in Africa? It's not like they can't fit two films on one disc (ala their release of Lady Snowblood) so what gives?

Maybe three shafts is too much to handle? Two shafts was already pushing it, I suppose. Sometimes all you need is a night with one shaft. But I wanted three shafts. One after the other.

Can I lucid dreaming to more or less escape into another reality?

I've known about lucid dreaming since middle school and aside from a few dreams that lasted only a couple minutes, I didn't have much success.

The thing is that my life is a disaster zone and I'm too stupid to fix it. Chronic illness, debt, familial stress, it's all too much and I don't have the balls to end it.

I was thinking about trying to start lucid dreaming again and figure out how to extend the dream long enough that I can live a life where I'm not a total waste of sperm and egg.

Is that possible?

What are some spirtual trilogies that you enjoy?

Sometime ago I read that Leonardo DiCaprio considers Django: Unchained, Titanic, and The Great Gatsby to be a trilogy about the evils of american greed. I thought that was interesting and so I've started thinking of thematic trilogies, films with no official continuity tying them together, with thematic similarities that suit them for a movie marathon.

Blade Runner (The Final Cut), Dark City (the director's cut) and Gatica is The Color Trilogy. All are sci-fi neo noir films each with a distinct primary color (blue, black, and green) set in dystopias and have a love story.

The Rockateer, Dick Tracy, and Tim Burton's Batman form the Comic Noir trilogy. All are set in a styleized version of the 1940's (debateable with Batman I guess) with over the top visuals and performances and adapting a comic book.

Devil in A Blue Dress and Deep Cover are a dualogy about Black men in L.A pulled into a nefarious conspiracy. Both are also part of The L.A Cinematic Universe, which honestly is just a bunch of movies set in L.A that I really like. I put anything in there as long as they don't contradict each other too much.

Anyone else do something like this? What are your spirtual trilogies?

Edit: Sorry for all the typos. And yes, as others have pointed out, Leo's trilogy includes The Wolf of Wall Street not Titanic.

Good custom nightguard experinces with an anterior open bite?

I'm getting a custom nightguard because of my bruxism. Wear is starting to show on my teeth, so I really need it. I have muscular TMJ as well, which I'm doing PT for.

I have an anterior open bite and I'm really scared of the guard making it worse. I suffered from really bad speech impediments as a child and had to go to speech therapy until my second year of middle school. My bite getting worse and causing speech issues would really fuck up my already low self esteem. I just cannot afford adult braces.

Anyone with a similar bite who had good experiences?

How to get power of attorney over my 80 year old schizophrenic father?

Location: Florida

My father has lived with schizophrenia for his whole life and is medicated for it. For the past few years he has declined more and more and is unable or unwilling to care for himself. He does not change his clothes, brush his teeth, or clean himself. He constantly fights with my mother and creates a hostile enviroment.

He refueses any and all medical treatment and hates even leaving the house. His PCP has dropped him as a patient because he keeps refusing to go to appointments. He had to go to the hospital this week because he fell down and hurt himself. While there he refused a cardiogram, refused physical therapy, and refused a bath. I talked to the staff and they say he understood all the questions asked of him but I think it's clear that he just cannot take care of himself anymore. They put him on new meds and I'll be personally be seeing that he takes them everyday but at this point I'm the only person with enough patience to deal with him. It is very difficult to overstate how frustrating he is. He'll be a pleasent old man at one moment and then yelling and cursing at the drop of a hat. It's like Dr. Jeykell and Mr. Hyde.

I want to get power of attorney over him and/or a guardianship over him but I, and everyone else in my family, is broke. I have ADHD and mental illness myself so this is all very hard for me. I just don't know what to do.

Are cons typically so loud?

Today I went to my first convention totally by accident. I was returning some books to the library and it turns out they had a con there that day. It had a good amount of people and tables of merch.

What strikes the most is just how *loud* it what was. Obviously I know cons can be noisy and maybe it being the library makes it stand out more, but damn the DB levels really went up. I have sensory issues so I carry earplugs with me at all times. Even with them in I only stuck around for about 15 minutes.

Sorry if this is a silly question but are cons usually so loud? I actually enjoyed myself and wish I could've stayed longer.

Thoughts on Upgrade (2018)?

I dismissed this when this was in theatres because I figured it was just another horror flick from Blumhouse. After hearing buzz about it for years I finally checked it out on Netflix (US) and I really enjoyed myself! Good performances, really great action. It's an interesting look at an early cyberpunk setting. It's not quite there yet, but we all know where it's going. Some parts of the plot feel kinda weak the more I think about it but all in all, a fun film.

DeSantis tax plan could cost Suncoast counties $380 million in 2 years

I'm so worried about this. This article is kinda old. The plan has already passed the FL House and Senate, meaning it will be on the ballot in november. It will need 60% to pass and, if so, will devistate libraries.

Libraries have suffered enough under DeSantis and I worry this will be the nail in the coffin. 60% may seem like a steep hurdle but it feels like everyone in this state is so mindnumbingly ignorant and cruel. I have little hope of them realizing how dire this is. Does anyone have any optimism for me?

The covers of the Sandman Slim books

I can't really judge the books themselves. I DNFed the first one about six or seven years ago, mostly because I had a lot of personal shit going on at the time. I do, however, love the covers. The movie poster style is a really unique of doing it. Most urban fantasy/action horror books of this type just have some super model with a trench coat on the cover, or maybe some military dude holding a machine gun. This is a nice change of pace, fitting the grungy, grindhouse style of the story. It also works because, the first book anyway, is set in L.A

Using a silhouette gives you just enough of an idea of the character while still letting you imagine his look while you read, and the pseudo castlist at the bottom is a nice touch too.

I'm currently reading Metrophage by the same author atm and I like it well enough. I'll probably give Sandman Slim another chance sometime. Until then, I can still appreciate the hard work they put into the covers.
