questions about getting started as a disabled vtuber/streamer

i want to get started as someone who is disabled with $0 money whatsoever. and all the guides i see say to use iphone or webcams, no android

i have an android phone (brand new S26) and a webcam, a used Logitech C920 HD Pro. would either of these be okay for tracking?

it's important to note that i am largely stuck in my bed due to my disability, so i will be using one or the other (i can set up the webcam to zoom from a distance or use a cord to be up close) as well, and will be using free tools until if/when i can ever get a proper avatar

i cannot afford to get any equipment ahead of time as i do not make any money and can no longer work

thank you ❤️

questions: how is 1.1.1.1 for vpn + porkbun for domains?

title explanatory. i get the feeling 1.1.1.1 is not going to be as good as a "full" VPN a la proton or tor, but i don't actually fully know, either.

as for porkbun, i found it because i noticed it had some of the best overall prices and very good security at least for logins. but i'm curious what you guys think of it. i really don't like godaddy for obvious reasons, and i'm very unfamiliar in general with most domain registrars.

thanks so much as always!

best browser for viewing tabs from totally different instances in the same window

not just viewing incognito/private windows in the same window, but having completely separate instances within the same window. like, in one tab, being logged into youtube (just as an example) on one account, and then in another tab being logged into a different account entirely.

has any browser made this possible yet?

there was an extension i used to use called sessionbox that made this possible, but that was a long time ago. so i wonder how things are now with so much more browser variety.

transfer settings from titanium to my tablet (from phone)?

tagging this as helium even though titanium is now technically it's own thing (and also doesn't have a desktop browser atm?)

i want to transfer over my settings for my extentions, cookies (for search engine), and stuff. beyond that i tend to use my pw manager and clear out most of my data, so very little actually stays in titanium. i just want the stuff that does, superficial though it may be lol.

any way to do this without tossing my devices up against my PC and digging?

folder accessible by both PC & mobile?

wanted to ask if it's possible to set up a (cloud...?) or shared(?) folder that can be accessed by both PC and cloud.

i am trying to organize all of my downloaded artwork files (among many other things) and i want them to be accessible from both my PC and mobile devices, editable (as in i can save to this folder from either device and files will show up for both), and ideally does not require an internet connection/cloud service subscription/etc. (bluetooth is fine.)

is this possible?

best alternative mobile keyboard to samsung keyboard or gboard?

hey all, i have a samsung phone. i have always preferred the samsung keyboard, it's sleek and gets the job done. however, i think my hands have "outgrown" it; it no longer taps the right keys i want to tap, and it also does not let me add any missing symbols to the keyboard in favor of searching -> copy + pasting.

not to mention, the only big competitor i know of is ghoard, which i dislike for obvious reasons. the only reason why i'd ever use it is for the emoji kitchen, and there's ann online version of it already. plus, i have tried to find a keyboard i like on google play, but all of them seem to he riddled with every malicious -ware you can think of... while being ugly as sin to boot.

any suggestions? i don't care about gifs. just have the alphabet, my emojis, and *maybe* kaomojis (not a dealbreaker), with no strange malware/ads/what have you.

thank you in advance!!!

does IHSS cover accidents or other car incidents when driving clients around during working hours?

hi, posting on behalf of my caregiver who came to me really panicked because she was warned by someone else that she may not actually have coverage for driving clients around in her own vehicle

she has progressive, and she said that she was told by her brother-in-law that she isn't covered due to progressive—and over insurances—all considering what she's doing a "business expense". which, okay.

but the problem is that IHSS is notoriously stingy about covering anything outside of the allotted hours themselves, and she does not think there is any kind of insurance for caregivers using their own vehicles to get clients to/from appointments. as a result she is now scared out of her mind for all of her clients (myself included) if they ever get in her car, even if she is a very safe driver, because she cannot afford to pay for more insurance, and she does not have faith that IHSS will cover this kind of thing (even though they really fucking should.)

i wanted to ask if anyone else has run into this issue and to please give information/advice/etc; we're in southern california. thank you!!!

question/request: catch-all email address without custom domain?

hi, i just wanted to know if this was possible!

i have a firstlast@proton.me email. i frequently have people trying to send emails to first.last@proton.me, when i do not use that/give that out to people/have never registered that.

i would assume this is technically possible by just registering that as one of the emails you can get as part of premium, however this gets a little silly after a bit when you consider how many you need to register vs only having 10 for mail plus (the lower tier):

  • firstlast@proton.me
  • first.last@proton.me
  • firstlast@protonmail.com
  • first.last@protonmail.com
  • firstlast@protonmail.ch
  • first.last@protonmail.ch
  • firstlast@pm.me
  • first.last@pm.me

so i wanted to check first if there's any options otherwise. i don't know if there's any truly affordable options for me to even try to get a domain (i am fairly poor and can't seem to find anyone willing to use my referral code lol), and even if i did, i'd have to move all of my emails over to do so. 🥲

and so i just wanted to ask and make sure before i do anything if this is indeed my only option outside of fishing for a domain in combination with the pain tiers. thank you!

fan-edits of the series and movies remakes; questions and curiosity

marked for potential spoilers for the main series, just in case!

hi! so, this is inspired largely based off of a comment i made about the differences between mami's room in the original airing of PMMM and the blu-ray re-release.

if you weren't aware, in the original airing of PMMM, mami's room was a lot more barren—there was also plenty of other things that weren't as polished and refined, but for the sake of brevity i won't get into those as much.

(if you're curious, feel free to check out comparisons here; if you cannot open that url because it still uses http instead of https, it's also archived on the wayback machine and archive.today)

my question was one of curiosity: i know i can't be the only one who probably prefers the original room due to it's symbolism for mami's situation and so on. i also feel that it suits the show much better compared to the second version, even if it's clear the animation is much higher quality.

so i wanted to know, have there been any fan-edits/fan-splicing of the show selectively choosing to reintroduce things like this back in?

i'm reminded of star wars fans and how many there are who are diehard fans of only the original version they watched when it very first showed in theaters, along with the "han shot first" thing, lol. (and this is all caused by how notorious lucas is with re-editing the films over... and over... and over again. lmao.)

now to be clear, this is not that serious for me—i'm more curious about it all than anything else, but i know many fans do get that serious about these things. (see: star wars edit wars.) and if anyone has, i'd love to see their efforts!

thank you!!!

what bugs do you experience with vivaldi?

i hear a lot of people say they won't stick with vivaldi despite otherwise liking/loving it due to dealbreaking bugs. i've personally never had much in the way of bugs with vivaldi, so i'm honestly very curious to hear what these actually are (and if they're popping up due to folks using vivaldi in different ways than i do, on different OSes, etc).

the only persistent bugs i continue to struggle with are:

- "Vivaldi is managed by your organization. View policies." i've tried figuring out what could be causing this, with absolutely no luck. i am on a personal computer, my account is the administrator account, and the only policy i see is google's extension policy. 🤷‍♂️ it doesn't seem to actually impact how i use the browser itself, so it's more annoying than anything, and i just wish i could make it go away. (the issue of it not letting me change my settings at the time turned out to be something else.)

- i can no longer use web panels to log into my web game, granblue fantasy, by hooking into a third party service (mobage, or mbga.jp). essentially how this works is that i go to log into gbf, and it prompts you to choose which service you use to log in with (which is the only choice you have due to archaic contracts). as i used mobage, i click mobage. it will then open a new tab in my main window, and as i am already logged in there, will confirm i am logged in. what it's supposed to do is the have a little tiny popup with my mobage username showing i'm logging in to gbf on the web panel, which it does do, but it just refreshes and never actually logs in. so i have gone back to playing the game exclusively on my phone until either gbf or vivaldi fixes the issue, but since this started with vivaldi's big 8.0 update, i'm fairly confident in saying it's vivaldi.

both of these started with vivaldi, in fact. that being said, neither are breaking my experience enough to make me want to stop using the browser; just things to report and hope they can be fixed.

i use windows 11 and vivaldi 8.1.4087.46. what bugs have you encountered, doing what and when, and was this a deal-breaker for you?

i've been enjoying magical girl dandelion so much!

i'm sure many of you have already heard of (and perhaps even checked out!) magical girl dandelion before, but i wanted to post a little bit gushing about it because it has quickly become one of my favorite series. i rarely follow manga actively, i struggle to keep up with them for a variety of reasons, but dandelion has me hooked. especially as a lifelong fan of the mahou shoujo genre!

📑 Synopsis: "Across the world, heinous creatures known as fiends drain the life force of their human victims, and the only ones capable of defeating them are magical girls. But one being challenges this conflict between good and evil: the shadow fiend Shade, who has protected the 16-year-old Tanpopo Ohanami from other fiends and her occasional missteps since her childhood.

One day at school, Tanpopo is called upon by the special anti-fiend organization Butterfly responsible for managing magical girls. They believe Tanpopo has a great potential to become a powerful magical girl herself, but Shade warns her that should she become one, they will become enemies. All Tanpopo ever wanted was to fight alongside her most trusted friend—but when she inadvertently awakens her powers, she realizes that the truth behind both fiends and magical girls is a far cry from the reality she once knew."

it also becomes revealed a bit down the line in the manga that anyone can become a magical hero, so it isn't gendered exclusively to magical girls alone. this is refreshing for me, since i feel like this isn't often done without it being very... i guess, performative almost, like "look at us, we have magical boys, see see see!" it just feels natural.

there's also (major spoilers for chapter 26 and the current kanzuru arc!!!) >!a very young canon trans girl, ibara (who might also be autistic or at least neurodivergent based on how she talks and conducts herself? not sure, but it's certainly not done to be mocking!), who just blossomed in the most recent chapter as part of her fight to rescue her adoptive father, a fiend, from the depths of his own self-destructive obsession. given the fact that magical girl dandelion has established not only that it has gender-ambivalent magical heroes (i.e you do not have to be any gender to be a magical hero) and has since made absolute certain to gender ibara correctly every step of the way, including as a magical girl, might feel really small in highsight as the bare minimum but it matters SO much for trans folks like me.!<

beyond the spoilers, i also just want to talk about how much i love the way magical girl dandelion is written in general. i know quite a few folks have shied away from it feeling like it's just another "edgy" take on mahou shoujo as a genre because of the way fight scenes are handled and how blood + injuries are actually highlighted, but i can't stress this enough:

tanpopo gets up again, every single time. she makes sure to accomplish her goal, every single time. she never gives up on anyone, every single time.

and the best part, is that when there is a time in which someone has crossed a boundary for her that's too far? she doesn't capitulate. she still saves them, but she also makes it very clear that part of why is because she did not want them to get the easy way out. her punishment is making them suffer the consequences of their actions, and still making sure they live.

because she wants to save everyone, but she's also not naive. she knows many of these people may not be "deserving" of being saved anymore. but you know what?

she's going to anyway. because she feels that's the right, and better, thing to do. and she will keep getting up every single time, no matter what the odds are, inspiring her friends to do the same every step of the way, helping every single person she can.

i love it so much because it reminds me of sailor moon; a lot of folks forget that the stakes get very high in sailor moon on quite a few occasions, perhaps because it's only towards the end of each respective "arc" each time. i like a mahou shoujo series with stakes that respect those stakes without being edgy for the sake of edginess. these fights showing what these magical heroes are going through actually shows a purpose, for what they're struggling against to accomplish their goal that's so impossible if anyone else was trying it. it is definitely inspired by shounen, but imo all of the best bits of it.

please give it a chance! i promise it is worth it, and it really might surprise you with just how good it is. especially since i didn't even get into the dynamic between shade and tanpopo alone, which is excellent.

all you need to know is that the author refuses to put a label to their relationship, and that they both would die for each other (but also won't die, so they can stick together), and tanpopo said "[redacted] my shade" during the last arc. and she was not fucking around.

a bit more minor spoilers again >!and for anyone worried since shade "looks" like he's much older than tanpopo: it's revealed via flashbacks that they're actually fairly close in age, his fiend form just makes him look older than he necessarily was in maturity at that age. neither of them know this, though; or at least tanpopo doesn't. shade might? it's ambiguous atm.!<

please read magical girl dandelion it's really good okay!!!!!!!!!!

sell me on your favorite browser(s), WITHOUT...

...including or defaulting to simply discussing privacy or adblocking alone.

why? because that's why so many of us are already here. most of us already know about the pros & cons between brave vs firefox, gecko vs chromium, etc.

so, instead, assuming we as users are shopping around already knowing that most if not all suggestions here will be mindful of the fact that anything that isn't chrome/edge will be a massive step up in privacy, with improvements from there based on what you choose between the many offerings...

what does your browser offer that makes it stand out against the rest, aside from just privacy & adblocking capabilities alone?

question brought to you by me wanting to see more conversations about the other aspects of browsers too, not just privacy/adblocking 24/7—we're all already here for that, we're already focused on that by getting away from chrome, why don't we talk just a bit more about other features too?

for me, i love vivaldi, even if i am very upset that they are being forced to move to mv3. it's so feature-rich and customizable, i can't imagine going to anywhere else. i even tried zen, but i just couldn't enjoy it the same way.

(no spoilers) at what point should i start doing all the side quests?

as i said yesterday, i got this game as a gift; i've been playing it since! i've been going through ever since, and i'm on main mission 10 (just started). i am aware that you need to do all of mable's missions (or, at least get enough points...?) to get the shiny charm, and that you have to do all of the side quests to get the "true ending"—i want to get both.

is there a certain point where i should really start buckling down and tackling these? i have been making solid progress on mable's missions just by playing, however the side quests are definitely more... well, side quests. are any of them missable if they get left until post-game? do they need to be done before the end of the main missions?

(also, as a side note, anyone know what the break points are for more customization unlocking aside from the salon stuff being behind specific side missions? 🤔 aka clothing lol)

again, no spoilers please!

thanks! ❤️ i'm having a blast!

does anyone know how to deal with walking/running stuttering constantly?

i just got this game as a surprise gift, and so far i have very few complaints. (mostly just wish the handholding didn't last as long as it did.)

however the biggest issue i've had is that: when you're just trying to run without sprinting, the run will constantly stutter back into a walk unless i wiggle the joystick. and i'm using newer joycons, so i don't see how it could be something related to drifting...

anyone else dealt with this or found solutions for it?
