Update: They FAFO but FA even more

Follow up to https://www.reddit.com/r/neighborsfromhell/s/7rjlWbgrPb

Tuesday night, the same night they learned of their eviction, these neighbors decided they needed to stack even more against themselves.

It was around 9 PM and I was getting ready to take my cat inside from a walk. Suddenly B (31 F) started slamming the front door repeatedly. Then she turned to threatening to assault me so I ended up calling 911. Cops were useless though but it still flagged another problem with the apartment.

I guess yesterday or this morning B tried to tell the office 1- they never make any noise and 2- wanted to report me for moving a flower pot too loud this week and waking her kids up 20 minutes early. The apartment manager WENT OFF on her that 7 people in a 2 bedroom was clearly going to be loud. My flower pot noise was laughed off.

Some people speculated on why this arrangement had happened in the first place. I learned that B was evicted from another complex under the same corporation and owes them "a ton" of money. An eviction meant she couldn't apply to any property for a year even if she paid off the debt. The two incidents this week may get her a permanent ban. So FA some more, FO some more.

A Postcrossing first day!!!

Being in the U.S. myself, I didn't really think I might be sent one of these through Postcrossing so this made my day! Plus it had fun 20 and 22 cent stamps as the actual postage.

They FAFO

In June of this year I met the new neighbors who would be moving into the apartment next to me, which we share a porch. A man, a woman, a small dog.

In mid-July her sister and the sister's four kids moved in instead. The couple and their dog only arrived maybe three weeks ago. Sometimes the sister's husband stays here too, so eight people and a pet in a 2 bedroom.

My main issue was they completely took over the porch so I couldn't really go out anymore. It was loud allllll day long despite me trying to talk to them about certain aspects. I was trying to start things off civil even if I was annoyed. Like on my daughter's first day of school last week I opened the door to find all seven out there and I'm not a morning person so that was a lot. Yesterday she started out to the bus and walked right into a cloud of weed. (I don't care if people smoke but keep it away from shared space.) Sharing the porch is fine but there's been no sharing. I've been here ten years and there would be nuisances at times but I was never at a point where there was no hour to be outside without chaos. I've even tried going to nearby picnic tables to sit or over to a neighbor's porch to chat. Between Saturday and Sunday that resulted in me or my cat almost getting hit five times by a ball.

Yesterday I got fed up and used large empty flower pots to block my side. This morning they were moved.

I went up to the office because I'm beyond done with this place and am trying to get a transfer to a different property. Here's where the FAFO comes in. The assistant told me he got a copy of a police report today. Sunday there was an altercation where this 15 y/o who isn't theirs but is always around started in on a neighbor. That led someone across the parking lot to come to her defense. THAT led the man next door to try to start a fight but yet they also called the police. They were dumb enough to do the call and report in the sister's name, giving more evidence to her residing here.

So anyway, their own stupidity on that, plus the fact that we have a freaking camera pointed directly at our porch made them tell on themselves. All the people not on the lease have 14 days to leave. And hopefully I'll be out soon in a rental house with my own walls and porch and yard!

Places to walk a cat?

I rescued a stray cat who continues to want outside time so he's harness trained. I'm in an apartment and there's a place to walk but I get tired of watching for dog poop, animals off leash, kids running right at him scaring him, etc. I was thinking about taking him to a park or something but if there are dogs that's probably not going to go well for anyone involved. Any ideas of where I could take him? I'm in west Knox so preferably out this way.

At what point do you call cops about daytime noise?

I live in an apartment. The building has 7 units side by side, 2 stories each. So nobody above or below, but the noise echoes just the same. I share a porch too.

On one side is 46F and 6M. Loud as hell all hours of the day and night. Supposedly she's being put out soon but in the meantime she's letting the kid go wild in the apartment for hours on end.

On the other side there are 7 people and a dog (most not on the lease) ranging in age from 8 to 36. I share my porch with them. Not that I can use it anymore when a whole crowd stays out there.

Today was the first day of school, a half day. The morning was wonderful. Then from about 1 PM until now at 8:15 PM it's sounded like I live in a construction zone. Stomping, doors slamming, basketball hitting the roof and my door, and more.

I've spoken with everyone. They know what gets loud. They also know I have noise triggered PTSD. They know my autistic daughter barely sleeps. I tried taking a nap with ear buds in to drown out the noise and my daughter woke from her own nap and let our cat out. I didn't hear because of trying to drown the noise so now that's a safety issue. My daughter won't go off but the cat needs to stay in.

This is unlivable. Yes, kids will play, but there's a whole open yard area right by our building yet the noise is inside or on my porch. I've made numerous complaints on 46F, as has the woman on the other side of her. The other people are new. I'm going to the office tomorrow but not for a complaint, but to ask about a transfer to move elsewhere.

In the meantime, at what point is enough enough when it isn't quiet hours but noise is extreme? My PTSD makes me feel like I need someone to help make it stop but maybe police wouldn't even care when it's mid-day. With the extreme it got to today would it have been reasonable to call non-emergency or is this just a shut up and suffer until I can get out of here?

Edit: I know PTSD is my issue and I do what I can to block/drown out the noise but it's more than can be muted. Also I don't see how people deliberately throwing their basketball against my door and onto my roof repeatedly is just people living their lives but okay.

How is it to live in Mechanicsville?

I want to start by saying that I know Mechanicsville is no Sequoyah Hills. I'm a lifelong resident but haven't really been over in The Ville in probably 20 years. I am in a KCDC rental and the neighborhood is a good one, but the other residents are a nightmare. I'm considering the Passport Properties and waiting for a single (as opposed to a duplex) to open up because that would be better for my family's needs. I just wondered what it's like over there these days. A lot has changed over time, like nice areas I lived in off Broadway and Clinton Highway aren't so good now, so I don't want to approach this with an outdated view of things.

DAE get treated like you're weird for actually engaging with your pet(s)?

Either I'm weird or all my neighbors are. To them having a pet seems like having one of those pet rocks only it requires food. Almost like home decor. Have home, need furry accessory.

Recently I rescued a cat and people act like I'm weird for actually doing fun pet stuff with him. Granted, I do walk him on a leash which could be seen as odd, but it's because he wants outside and I want him to be safe. But stuff such as talking to him, holding him in my lap while I sit on the porch, getting him your average cat toys...they look at me like I'm stupid. They also seem to think cats do not think or have feelings about things. People can't seem to understand why I might actually have an owner-pet relationship with my cat rather than him just being a window decoration. Anyone else ever get that?

Void playdate after dark

My black cat has made a black cat friend. My guy has poor social skills, thus the leash. It was a challenge supervising the location of two voids at night.

It just gets crazier- follow up

Recently I posted about the crazy stuff going on in my neighborhood (https://www.reddit.com/r/neighborsfromhell/s/lUs5rmtYZG). The one I referred to as other next door (OND) drinks and/or does drugs and doesn't take her psych meds like she should. For a long time she's stomped around through the night and would blame it on people in the attic. We don't have attics. Two doors down (TDD) and I have submitted all kinds of complaints for probably a year but there's a whole extra process for eviction because of OND's mental health status.

TDD went today to see more about why she got an eviction notice and it seems she's in the clear. She was told by the office to pass on to me that they're finally close to removing OND. Kind of a heads up that OND may start acting out more when she gets eviction papers herself soon. Months ago I remember hearing sounds like she was digging into her wall that we share in the living room. We've learned that she actually has been digging a hole in the apartment, found during a recent maintenance inspection, but we don't know where. It has to be that wall! I had forgotten about it given everything else but now I'm thinking maybe I should move my couch and bookshelf to make sure she didn't actually tunnel all the way through!

Edit: Another neighbor said OND had an inspection just today. They found trash from the dumpster in her freezer and she claimed to not know how it got there.

AITAH for not giving neighbors rides?

I live in an income based apartment complex and we're not on a bus line. I'm fortunate to have a car, but it's more than 30 years old and constantly needs work. I have chronic health issues. I also have an adult daughter with disabilities. She hates car rides and has since she was little. Given all that, I do a lot of my shopping online. I tend to go out maybe once per week. I count up days and shop accordingly.

Over time I've let people know I don't give rides. I don't make extra stops while I'm out. I have a new neighbor who doesn't have a car. I told her early on that I don't do rides. She asked one day last week anyway and I got caught off guard and said yes. I'm still learning boundaries after some things in my life. She asked again today. Guilt tripped me a little bit when I reminded her what I said previously. She started to walk then ended up coming back having barely gone down the road.

A different neighbor texted this morning for toilet paper. I'm low on it myself so I said no. She always needs/wants something.

I feel bad because I have a car, they don't, and I'm not helping but at the same time their lack of planning isn't my problem. I never have help from anyone and am drowning in my own stuff so it feels like why keep giving and giving when my cup is empty? AI being TAH though?

Do you ever think about your cat's mom?

Three months ago the kitten who would become mine showed up at my apartment building. Around the same time I noticed another cat who may have been the mom. The only picture I got of her is with the orange cat. Second picture is my baby. They had similar coloring and both had long hair. Every other cat I see around here has short fur.

He had minor matting when I took him in and was a little malnourished, but mom really wasn't in good shape. A lot of matting, a dental problem, some sort of wound on her belly. She came around a few times and I used some pet wipes on her, tried to brush her, gave her a little to eat. She purred at my help. I couldn't take her on too. I didn't have a carrier yet so I was going to try to call animal control to get her some help, but then she quit coming around. It's almost like she stopped by a few times to make sure her boy was in good hands and then she was satisfied. With the wound and probably trouble eating, I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't make it. I wish I could have done more for her but maybe it helped to see her kitten get rescued?

In these few months my boy has grown so much. He's gotten healthy and his coat is amazing. Maybe I'm weird for it, but sometimes when he does something new or his behavior improves I tell him I'm proud of him and that his cat mom would be proud of him too. I guess it's just gratitude for her trusting me when she couldn't take care of him herself.

What HASN'T happened?

Things were pretty calm at my apartment complex for a while, then the last two weeks have been completely wild. All this has happened since July 12th or so:

*I got new next door (NND) neighbors who share my porch. On their first or second full day one of the boys hit my window playing paddle ball with rocks. It didn't break fortunately.

*One day there were about 15 people out between my porch and the next one over. Kids being wild, half the adults drunk, lots of bickering.

*The next morning at 5 AM police were beating on all our doors and had a K9 with them who kept barking. One of the bickering couples got into a domestic where one pulled a gun and the other tried to bite out her partner's eye.

*NND is 31 years old and wants her hand held to do everything. I didn't mind showing her how to operate the laundry stuff but she didn't need me to walk her down there the next day because she was scared to walk by herself in the middle of the day. Despite everything in this one post, it is actually pretty safe here.

*Other next door (OND) is mad at the person she has to share a porch with and I can understand because of the noise. Now she's acting out though so I'm hearing her beating on the walls, bouncing a ball in the house, etc.

*NND had to take OND out to DoorDash because she was going to do it driving drunk with her 6 year-old.

*OND told this same child she needed a DNA test because they gave her the wrong child. She got in the car and drove off without him.

*Two doors down (TDD) took her 18 year-old to probation (burglary charge) and he got arrested there for an assault warrant. TDD then came home to an eviction notice over some of this drama. This must be at least her 5th eviction notice but she's planning to fight it all again.

*A woman with mental health struggles in a different building called the police on herself. Not sure why. When police arrived she punched the officer. That brought about a dozen more out and they had to drag her out of her apartment. Same woman was previously filmed for On Patrol Live but they didn't use the footage.

I try to mind my business but will get a request like, "Do you have any Tylenol?" and I find myself being given vent sessions on the latest.

Somewhere in the middle of all this I applied for a transfer to another property. I can't afford to move but my mental health can't afford me staying.

His ears have gotten even more old! 😻

I have loved my little guy's old man ear furnishings since he arrived on my doorstep almost three months ago. Now that I've gotten him nice and healthy, his coat is so soft and he grew these grey patches behind both ears. I love them! I finally got a picture while he was sleeping beside me.

Getting creative with these monthly challenges

I don't leave the house much, especially in the summer, so I didn't know what in the world the unplanned mini adventure would be. Tonight I found my "adventure" by accident.

My new neighbor asked for a ride to the convenience store and if I could show her how our laundry room payment system works. I told my daughter we were going and my cat got all excited and insisted on going too. Yes, my cat. 🤣 He jumped in his carrier ready to roll.

I loaded my crew in the car, we dropped the laundry off, went to the store, came home. It was definitely unplanned though so I'm counting it.

Also I have nowhere to people watch so I'm going to look up some old 80s or 90s mall videos to do that one.

Finally did something for me

I'm sole caregiver for my adult daughter. As if that wasn't enough, I took in a stray kitten in April. I'm always worrying over the two of them and badly neglect myself. I first meant to cut my hair in May 2025. That's not a typo. As I brushed the frizzy, tangled mess tonight in the middle of the night, I realized my cat wasn't even conceived when I first started thinking I needed this haircut. So at 5:30 AM (up this late, not rising early) I finally cut it.

USPS is the worst about their own shipping notifications 🤦‍♀️

It's 8:35 PM on Thursday, July 16th. I just received this email that the rest of the stamps I ordered had shipped. I wondered if I did a pre-order that I'd forgotten. Then I saw the date. Three days after receiving the stamps and having used some already, they have let me know they're on the way. 😂
