PHEV Prius vs Corolla Icon

Hi,

I think I know the answer, but I'd like to take a second thought. I'm in the market to hunt for a good car. I have options for a hybrid 2025 Icon Corolla (fully hybrid) and a PHEV Prius 2025. Which should I go for?

My daily commute is 20 miles round trip, and I have free office charging facilities until today, but I'm not sure for how long. I often go out of the city once a month, which is around 200 miles round trip. I don't drive much.

I live in the UK. I am inclined toward the PHEV Prius as it will save fuel on a weekly basis. But the only problem or my fear is that I live in a small town and I park my car on the street. My only fear with the Prius is that since it looks like an expensive, stylish car, I'm afraid of it being stolen, though I've never heard anything about cars being stolen on the street. My car will be parked at night in front of my home or nearby. The Prius is an eye-catching car, I think.

What should you advise?

Lexus NX 350h

Hi everyone,

I am planning to buy my very first Lexus! It has always been my favourite car brand, and I am currently looking at a 2024 Lexus NX 350h with a total budget of around £35k. I am planning to buy directly from an official Lexus main dealer showroom in the UK using a HP agreement because my goal is to fully own the car at the end.

For context, I am upgrading from a trusty 2008 Toyota Prius, so I love the hybrid system but want a massive upgrade in luxury and modern tech.

I have a few questions for the experts here:

1. Feedback on the 2024 NX 350h: For those who own or have driven one, what is your real-world feedback on the comfort, tech, and motorway driving?

  1. Buying from Lexus Showroom vs. Independent Traders: Is it a wise decision to stick strictly to the official Lexus approved-pre-owned network, or should I be looking at alternative car supermarkets/traders in the UK to get a better price?

  2. NX 350h vs. Brand New LBX: With my £35k budget, I could alternatively get a brand-new Lexus LBX. However, it looks like a "baby SUV" and quite small compared to the NX. Coming from a 2008 Prius, will the LBX feel like a downgrade in cabin and boot space?

Are there any other alternative models or aspects I should consider before signing the paperwork?

Thanks in advance!

Pls pls advice

I’m a 29M living and working abroad in the UK. I’m writing this because I feel completely stuck in a repetitive, unhealthy loop, and I honestly don't know where to start fixing it. My mind is completely unfocused, and I am a severe overthinker who defaults to the worst-case scenario.

Here is what my current daily life looks like:

Routine: Wake up, go to the office, come back home around 5:00 PM.

Evenings: I sit entirely alone. I doomscroll on my phone and struggle with compulsive masturbation just to escape my thoughts.

If I stop scrolling, my mind immediately picks the worst possible scenarios and repeats negative thoughts on a loop. I forcefully try to sleep by midnight, wake up, and repeat.

Diet: Because I live alone, I rarely cook. I eat out most days of the week and my diet is really unhealthy.

Social Life: I am single. I only have about 4 friends here, and I only see them on Saturday evenings. The rest of the week, I have no one to talk to. There is a family crisis back home, but they don't understand my perspective, which adds to the isolation.

Inconsistency: I have zero consistency. For example, I started going to the gym, but I quit after 3 weeks.

I feel like I’m just repeating the same empty day over and over. I am not happy. I scroll just to numb my brain from the negative thoughts.

There are so many things I need to fix, but I am overwhelmed.

What does a genuinely good, healthy life look like for someone in my position?

Where do I even begin to break this cycle when my mind is this unfocused?

Thanks in advance for any advice or insights..

🚨 100+ Applications in and hitting a brick wall... How did you guys actually land your 482/Skills in Demand Visa? 🇦🇺

Hey everyone! I’m currently overseas and trying to make the move to Australia. I’m targetting the Subclass 482 visa, but man... the job hunt is brutal. 🫠

I have already sent out more than 100 applications, but it feels like as soon as employers see "requires visa sponsorship," it’s an immediate rejection.

I know it’s a numbers game, but I feel like I need to change my strategy. I’d love to learn from those who have successfully made it over.

For those who cracked the code, how did you start your job hunt?

Thanks in advance.

Travelling Lahore to Perth | June

Hi everyone,

Is anyone travelling from Islamabad to Perth in June (possibly late June)?

My mother will be travelling alone, and I wanted to check if there is someone who could accompany her on the journey. It would be a great help and provide some extra comfort for her. It's her first international trip alone.

Please let me know if you or someone you know is travelling on this route.

Thanks.

Applying for Italy Schengen visa to visit family – DIY or hire an agent?

Hi, I am planning a trip to Italy in a few weeks to visit my brother for a week this summer. I hold a Pakistani passport and have been living and working in the UK on a Tier 2 Skilled Worker visa for the last 2 years.

This is my first time applying for a Schengen visa. I have a full-time job and around £5k in my savings account to show for the application.

Does anyone have tips or tricks for a first-time applicant from the UK? Should I apply by myself or is it better to hire an agent to help with the process?

I'd appreciate any advice on how to get an appointment quickly and what documents I should focus on to ensure a high success rate. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi All,

Seeking some guidance on navigating an internal international move. I’ve been with an MNC in the UK for the last 3 years and have reached the highest position available at my current site in Manchester.

To progress further, my options are usually to move to our London office (which I’d prefer not to do) or wait for a rare senior opening in Manchester. However, my ultimate goal is to migrate to Australia.

I’ve had an open conversation with my manager about this. He’s very supportive and suggested that I reach out to the equivalent teams in our Australian offices to start informal discussions. The idea is to get on their radar now, so when a role eventually opens up, I’m a known entity.

Here is where I’m struggling:

I feel incredibly awkward reaching out to people I don’t know with "no context." I don’t want to come across as someone just hunting for a job immediately, but I also want to be intentional about my interest in relocating.

I would love your advice on:

How do I break the ice with a "cold" internal message or email to a peer or lead in the Australian office?

What should the "informal discussion" actually look like? What questions should I be asking to build a genuine connection?

For those who have successfully navigated an internal global transfer, what is the best way to keep that connection alive over a "long journey" without being annoying?

I know this won't happen overnight, but I want to start on the right foot. Any scripts, tips on corporate etiquette for this, or "dos and don'ts" would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi, apologies if this is not the right sub. I moved out of home and I'm living alone and missing the pure desi PK food.

I can cook a couple of basic Pakistani dishes like Daal, peas rice, and a few vegetables. I remember my mom used to tell me "boy learn how to cook" but I didn't. Now since I am living abroad, I realized I wish I could have, but it's never too late.

I tried chicken, beef, ribs and ended up with something that I can’t eat. YouTube recipes are good but I don't know why it didn’t come out very well. Not sure what is missing?

Any advice please?

Hi,

I'm an Overseas Pakistani. I've recently opened a RDA and started dipping my toes into the local market, but I'm having some serious second thoughts.

Looking at the macro situation, the PKR seems to devalue almost systematically. If I invest in a local asset that grows by 15%, but the currency drops by 20% against the Dollar or Pound in the same period, I've effectively lost money in global terms.

So, my question to the seasoned investors here is.What is your "Theory of Investment" for Pakistan? Is it strictly about the high interest rates/yields on instruments like NPC (Naya Pakistan Certificates)?

Are you betting on a long-term "mean reversion" or a massive undervalued play in the PSX?Or is it simply a hedge for future expenses you plan to have within the country? Why would someone choose to put capital into a devaluing

environment when they have access to stable overseas markets (S&P 500, etc.)? I'd love to hear the logic, the math, or even the emotional reasoning behind your strategy.Thanks.

Hi My Seniors,

I moved to the UK from PK about a year ago for work. I’m living in North Yorkshire and settling in well, but I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on the long-term journey here.

I’d love to ask the from you who moved from overseas. what life lessons have you learned so far? What are the "dos and don’ts" to secure a stable future here, especially when it comes to managing family expectations back home?

One of the biggest misconceptions people in PK have is that those of us living abroad are earning massive fortunes and can afford everything. As we all know, the day-to-day reality of UK expenses is very different - the grass always looks greener from the other side.

My biggest fear stems from an uncle of mine. He spent his entire life abroad, meeting everyone’s expectations and sending money back for every small or large request. People back home thought "4,000 or 5,000 PKR is nothing for someone earning Pounds." However, once he got older and moved back to PK, the people who used to call him their "favourite uncle" moved on. He hadn't built any personal wealth for himself because he gave it all away.

I don’t want this to happen to me or with anyone. I believe, While money isn't everything, it plays a critical role in our security and peace of mind.

What have you learned so far? What advice would you give to your 28-year-old "younger brother" to avoid here and back home traps?

I’m still single, so I have a bit more flexibility and time to plan right now. 😀

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Need your help.pls, looking for a way to earn some extra cash on the side because of the rising cost of living. I work a full-time job from Monday to Friday that finishes around 5:30 PM, so I am specifically looking for something with flexible hours that can fit into my evenings and weekends.

Have previous exoerience in customer service, including working in coffee shops and gelato. I am also a car owner with a full driving license.

If you know of any local cafes, shops, or businesses that need a reliable pair of hands for evening or weekend shifts, I would really appreciate any leads. I am ready to start as soon as possible and can be very flexible with my weekend availability.

Thank you for your help.
