I'm a snarker, no "but" or whatever. I wanted to point out that Jill is a victim as well and we are watching someone who has been brainwashed and abused break down in real time.

These are actual people, and Jill has heavily hinted and just about admitted that she used to get hit when she intervened when David hit the kids. So that means she was "trained" by David (who also was eying her since she was about Tessie's age) to not intervene or get hit.

I hate Jill for what she does. For her behavior. But after learning about how she used to get hit by her husband for intervening when he hit the kids, I feel like she also needs a SHIT TON of help. That whole home does. Look at Philip. The younger girls who always look so sad and forlorn. She has them trained. He has her trained. A web of abuse.

The video of her sobbing and holding her dog makes me think of what she must be remembering, suppressed memories of violence she tried so hard to keep under wraps now the talk of the literal town, of how her parents failed her, at a young woman's disillusionment when the man of her dreams turns out to be a piece of shit who hits her (much like what Heidi feels), that her son is like her husband, that another one has just as many issues (Phillip), that her remaining daughters will likely have trouble getting married because of the broken façade, and how religious brainwashing also failed her, all now coming back to haunt her and with the public watching to boot.

This is all so messy. I really don't know what to say except I always had a hunch David was allegedly an abuser. The way he spoke and used his finger and the way Jill fawns to please HIM. There is so much to unpack.

I am not defending Jill. As a woman, my heart breaks for another woman who used to get hit defending her children and what him retaliating has made her become. Living in a fairytale world in her 50s, raising stunted children, lying to herself before the world that everything is okay. Jill is a victim too, and needs extensive therapy.
