How do modern consoles handle physical games?

Heya, I've been playing on PC for the last several years or so, well before the current generation of consoles launched. I've just been asking out of curiosity, as I intend to get either an XSX or PS5 sometime in the near future, but I've heard a lot of varying reports on the state of physical games on those platforms, and that they apparently no longer run off the disc itself, requiring installation to the system's storage drive.

If installation is required, how is that done? Does it require an internet connection prior to accessing the game, or is it typically just copying straight from the disc, and how long does that usually take if so? And if there are any games which can run directly off the disc, then I'd be curious to see if there's a list online anywhere which catalogues the selection.

Just had a hard time finding answers out there for myself, but I've at least concluded that physical games on modern consoles don't really behave as they did on older systems. Would be annoying if that means I have to always have storage available to accommodate a game that I purchased physically, but if that isn't the entire story, I'd be curious to learn more about it.

Leon's jacket got cleaved, didn't think this was possible

I actually wonder if this is intended, or Leon's jacket just got stuck inside of his body somehow. It literally grew back after a little while though, so I'll probably lean towards the latter. Still, really funny to see Leon's dress shirt under his jacket like that, and even better if this actually is an intended effect by the developers.

Is there any third-party software for mapping WASD to joystick inputs?

I've upgraded from a Razer analog keyboard to an ASUS one, which uses hall-effect switches. Always liked using those for joystick emulation in games, but I came to find that ASUS doesn't have anything in their software which seems to support joystick emulation, only adjustable actuation, rapid trigger and snap tap from the looks of it. I know Razer and Wooting's software is also proprietary, so I can't really use those with the new keyboard, but I'd have to assume that joystick emulation isn't something that is super complex to create software for, that can accommodate a range of different analog keyboards. I can't really say either way, but if anyone has any options they can recommend, I'd appreciate it a lot. Using an ROG Azoth 96, and I'd love to keep it if there's software out there which can fill in for the lacking software that they provide in turn.

People with the Huntsman V3 Pro 8Khz, would you recommend it?

Looking for a new analog full-sized keyboard, and I've been really annoyed at the lack of options out there. Upgrading from the Huntsman V2 Pro, which pretty much has the perfect layout for me with the media controls. Was thinking about the V3 Pro, but reviews online signaled that the 8Khz version specifically has a better, quieter typing experience. I went to pick one up yesterday, and found that something about it was entirely off, the keys were extremely inconsistent. Didn't sound anything like some sound tests online would indicate, so I'll be replacing it, or just getting a refund outright.

I was curious for folk who've had it for a little while now, how it held up for them. I got a lot of mileage out of the V2 Pro, but it always irritated me, how fast the keycaps started to wear and shine. My space bar pretty much lost the bulk of its matte coating within only a couple of weeks, the keys are pretty loud for my liking, and ghost presses are really common now. If the keyboard has solid longevity, then I'll happily stick with the Huntsman line.

Just cataloguing my experience and requests with the ROG Azoth 96 HE.

I've had this thing for a few days now, and I've been enjoying my experience with it a lot. Upgrading from a Razer Huntsman V2 Pro, and the switches with this keyboard are just so much smoother and less annoying than those on the Razer. Typing is really a breeze with this thing, the experience there has been virtually flawless. I really don't have a ton of gripes with the hardware itself, but there's some things with the software which have really irked me, that I'd like to get out there, and see if others have experienced similar problems, or have derived solutions of their own. I've searched endlessly online for the problems I've had, but haven't really come up with a ton of answers for the bulk of them.

No joystick emulation for WASD keys - I know that rapid trigger and snap tap are really the biggest selling points of hall-effect and other anlog keyboards, but it was always joystick emulation which would be the biggest selling point for me. Wooting and Razer both implement support for the feature in their software, and it's strangely missing from ASUS's Gear Link software. I haven't really found any third-party software that could offer similar functionality, otherwise I wouldn't be mentioning this as a problem.

OLED screen always on while plugged in, during sleep mode - I purchased this keyboard for the near full-size format and hall-effect switches, and I don't really care to use it wireless. I always like to keep my keyboards plugged in, but I noticed that the OLED screen will always be on with a battery indicator displaying its percentage, even while it's at 100%, when the PC is in sleep mode, or turned off. I'd really like to see some kind of toggle to disable this, as I just worry about burn-in, and would rather it be disabled whenever it's not in use.

Not enough utility for OLED's touchscreen input - It just seems to be used for swiping between different displays, like backgrounds and screen effects, and that's it. I would've really liked to have been able to use it for media controls, like swiping to the next and previous track, while using the knob next to it for volume controls and mute. It just seems to be a bit of a gimmick in its current state, which is a shame, because there could be so much more functionality applied to the touchscreen.

Limited utility for the button below the knob - It just seems to be used for scrolling through various preset functions for the knob itself, and that's it. I really wish there was a way for me to simply map it to something else, like mute. It's pretty useless to me, otherwise.

Especially for ~$300, it feels like so much about this keyboard is held back by lacking software. Gear Link in its current state is extremely limited, and the lack of joystick emulation support especially hits hard, and just takes away massively from the utility that an analog keyboard provides over a mechanical one imo. It's nearly the perfect keyboard for me, with the pleasant switches, build quality, and overall enjoyable typing experience. Works great both in games and normal use during work hours, just wish we could get more from what we're given.

Is there any way to get a clean status bar, like this? (ROG Azoth 96 HE)

I just purchased the Azoth 96 HE, and I'm liking it a lot so for. The only thing I've got gripes with currently, are the status bar options which appear on either side of the OLED display. It just makes the display look extremely cluttered, but the Gear Link software requires me to have at least 6 enabled, otherwise I can't save the changes. It's been irking me to no end, especially since the display is OLED and I'd ideally like to keep as few static elements on the screen as possible, if I can help it. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: just needed to double tap it, thanks for the help.

I've been enjoying the game so far, but it's been hard to ignore the game's apparent shortcomings whenever they arise. I happened to notice these horned toads just.. running at Rivet, whenever she remains still, and only attacking when she moves around. This came just after a mini-boss segment, where I stood at a slightly elevated cliff, and the boss could only throw rocks at me while standing completely still, unable to actually charge me down. It's a slightly buggy experience so far, to say the least of it. Still, been enjoying what I've played so far, just wish these moments wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.

I was just waiting for this to happen. I cannot believe how chaotic this controller launch was. Hopefully they restock soon, but pulling the banner out of the blue seems very discouraging.

I haven't really used groups on Steam since the early 2010s frankly, and it's really sad to see that this is what they've seemingly been reduced to. Giant congregations of bot accounts. You'd be hard-pressed to find actual people in this group in particular, but I don't doubt for a second that this is just one of many cases, where there's seemingly more bots than actual people occupying the group. I could literally go through the list all day, and it would continuously be endless swaths of bot accounts.

I know there isn't a solve-all to the bot problem on Steam, but this just seems absolutely absurd to me. How groups like these can consist of hundreds of thousands of accounts, and they're virtually all bots. CS2 is obviously a very big game, but I could never take its high player count seriously when these are the accounts padding out its numbers. Dead internet theory just hits me full swing with this kind of stuff.

Just happened to come upon this revelation after I saw a scene which happened to look very close to the thumbnail for Lara's gameplay trailer, and it gave me a laugh. Reminded me of those DLSS 5 memes that were going around a little while back. I don't even dislike her in-game appearance, but I suppose someone in marketing felt unhappy with it, and believed only AI would rectify the issue.

I join it, see a bunch of basic obstacles no one's doing, and then the entire server centralized within a corner, unboxing fake CS skins worth fake money. Why is this the most popular game on s&box right now, is there something that I'm missing or are people actually losing their minds?

I just thought I'd offload some things on my mind, that have always pressed me about the EGL experience, and would make it infinitely more enjoyable for me to see improved.

Smoother library navigation - I have roughly 600 games currently registered to my account, and scrolling through them tends to be very choppy. The filters tab containing the search bar also remains fixed to the top of the page, which means scrolling all the way back up to reach it, which can take a bit of time to load in surprisingly. Would like to see that remain fixed in place, detached from scrolling.

Unreal Engine/Fab tab toggle - Can't say how many times I've accidentally clicked on either of these, which leads to both of them loading an entirely unique interface from what's present in the Store and Library tabs, leading to having to reload them again, after switching back. There's already a toggle under Preferences to disable the Library tab, which also hides the Store tab. I'd really like to see the same be added for the other two tabs. I'm not a game dev, so they effectively just serve as clutter for me to accidentally click on.

In-game overlay toggle - I don't really have any use for it in a lot of games, so it'd be nice to see a toggle to turn it off like what Steam provides.

Better controller support - Even if it's just implementing a glorified XInput wrapper for non-XInput controllers, I think it'd go a long way in helping to make the plug-and-play experience much more seamless. I really don't care to launch EGL itself through Steam in order to use my DualSense as intended.
