Tekton Hard Handle on Icon G2

I will try to press it in with a large wood clamp next. Ill keep yall updated.

Tried the Tekton Hard Handle conversion

Tekton 6 in 1 Hard Handle on an Icon G2 ratchet.

This is as far as I got with just hammering. I will try to press it in further with a large clamp.

These tekton handles are only $4.00 a piece. I figured Id give it a shot. I really dislike the comfort grips on the G2. These feel better.

This post is a repost. My last one was glitching.

Tried tekton hard handle icon g2 conversion

It almost worked lol. After 30 minutes of hammering, this is as far as it goes.

I ordered a very large 600lb wood clamp. Gonna try that to see if i can press it in further.

These are only $4 on tektons website. I figured id give it a shot.

Mismatched oil control rings

Ordered an engine rebuild kit from 944 Online.

Three of the goetze rings are the same. One of them has slightly different packaging (rings on lower right of the first picture) and a different oil control ring. The expander and end gaps are also different. This ring reads GOE 6. All the other rings just have GOE on top.

Should i try to return these and get matching ones or send it?

Goetze Ring Gap

These rings have larger ring end gaps than the specified tolerance in the factory manual.

Factory manual calls for 0.25mm to 0.40mm

These have 0.40mm for the top ring and 0.65mm to 0.70mm for the second ring.

Just wanted to ask if people have used these successfully.

Thank you

Do i have to recondition cylinders for rings?

Doing an engine rebuild. Cylinders look great. I am currently cleaning the pistons up. Motor had no compression issues when running.

I have Goetze Piston Rings 100mm sitting in a box. Do I have to recondition cylinders the cylinders with AN 30 prior to putting on new rings? Should I reuse the old rings if I dont want to recondition the cylinders? What do I risk if I put on new rings without reconditioning?

I called Comeau racing. He advised me to put on new rings without reconditioning. I trust that guy and I know he has tons of more experience than me.

However, I have gotten such conflicting advice from so many people who also have experience. People are saying the motor will lose compression if I dont reuse the old rings. Some people say new rings are totally fine. I dont know what to think anymore.

Please help.

Murph - 2 years daily wear

I love this watch. I sold most of my collection after I got this Murph. Wear it every single day. It has scratches and dings all over. Even the crystal has scratches. They add character and give this watch a story.

Hello,

The black plastic insert on the inside of my 86 na 944 cracked when i was cleaning the oil pan. The plastic is super brittle and old.

Im looking online and seems like a replacement costs like $300. Wild.

What options do I have? Thank you.

Hello! Just took off my head. Wondering if I have to recondition the cylinders or if I can just fit new rings to the pistons and send it.

There is no scoring on the cylinders. They seem to be in good shape. They do look a little shiny and some forums Ive read have mentioned a “glazed look” being an issue. Im not entirely sure.

Thank you!

Hello. I was scraping away at the cam tower seal on my 1986 NA Porsche 944. I am using plastic razor blades and being careful. As I was removing the seal, I noticed these deep scratches. I can def feel these with a fingernail. At first I thought that the plastic blade had somehow done this but as I removed more of the seal, I realized that the scratches had already been there.

How bad is this? Will I have to get this part of the head resurfaced as well? I already was planning to have it rebuilt.

Thank you

Hello. I was scraping away the cam tower seal off the head. After i removed a chunk of it, i noticed several scratches. I can def feel these with my fingernail.

I used plastic razor blades to scrape. How do i mitigate these scratches? I thought using plastic blades would be safe
