I believe there was no feasible way the Fire Nation could conquer the world after Sozin's Comet

From the throne flashback scene in "Sozin's Comet Part One", the general reports that the army is overstretched and struggling to contain Earth Kingdom insurgencies. He suggested diverting more domestic troops to the front. This implies a manpower shortage for the FN. That's why Ozai and Azula brought up mass burnings with the power of Sozin's Comet. It was to be the last hurrah of the Fire Nation, and the plan failed spectacularly.

  1. The government has been decapitated. Ozai and Azula were defeated at the height of their power, and the palace staff have been purged by Azula. Zuko was quick to secure the capital before anyone else could challenge him.

  2. The airship fleet has been destroyed. The FN lacks a method for rapid response and deployment.

  3. Ba Sing Se has been liberated by a previously secret order of highly-skilled benders, including firebenders. For the FN, it begs the question: how many White Lotus spies might have infiltrated the country already?

  4. The Avatar has become more powerful than ever before. That factor speaks for itself.

And let's consider the losses suffered before Sozin's Comet

  1. The largest armada the FN could assemble was decisively defeated at The Siege of The North. The navy took heavy losses, potentially irreplaceable. With less ships, it is more difficult to supply the army across the sea.

  2. The Drill was destroyed at the walls of BSS. Who knows how much money and man hours were wasted on that.

I suppose the generals knew the war effort was beyond salvageable and were happy to cut their losses. So they cooperated with Zuko; there didn't seem to be much evidence of him purging the military. Most of his opponents were political officials.

So imagine Japan after the Battle of The Philippines Sea/Battle of Leyte Gulf. They still have their conquered territories, but there's no way they can win a war against the USA at that point. Or Germany after the Battle of The Bulge and Operation Bodenplatte.

Plus I'm sure the soldiers would rather go home than continue fighting in a foreign land. We can't ignore the possibility of mutinies. War really really sucks.

Can Bob's relationship with The Void ever be like this?

For context, this is when Yoda confronts his 'dark side persona' and learns to reject it.

Yoda then says "Through patience and training, it is I who controls you. My dark side, reject you, I do." Can Bob train himself similarly to control The Void, or is it beyond his control?

Hakoda might be the luckiest man ever (also requesting for Hakoda FIL fics)

By the end of the war, Hakoda is:

  1. The Chieftain of the combined Southern Tribes, up from when he was the chief of what could only be described as a glorified campsite.

  2. Father to two war heroes; his son is a skilled warrior and his daughter is one of the best waterbenders in the world

  3. Father-in-law to The Avatar, the closest thing to a god on earth

  4. His country has oil; he can be an oil tycoon hooray

  5. Because the Avatar is his son-in-law, his country has a very privileged position in geopolitics. It's probably because of that marital connection that the SWT was *de facto* independent from the NWT until Unalaq invaded.

All it took was his wife getting Kentucky Fried, and he's got a new one now. Not bad.

I'm also asking for fics of Hakoda as a father-in-law to Aang, because there's nothing of that canon.
