Live production/event/theatre tech work at ski resorts?

Hey guys,

I work in live production (mainly tech and crew work for theatre and arts festivals), and would love to put my skillset to use at a ski resort. Is snowboarding during the day and operating light and sound by night a pipe dream?

I've always wanted to work a season at a snow resort, and I'm getting close to ageing out of working holiday visas so I need to do it sooner rather than later.

However live production/theatre work has been a fairly recent career change for me, so I'd really like to keep my momentum going and continue working in the same field rather than taking a break from it with a standard customer service or lifty job at a resort.

Does anyone know of any resorts that have a lot of events that might need technicians, stagehands, stage managers, or general crew?

I found the Maury Young Arts Centre in Whistler and the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, but I imagine it's quite difficult to get paid work there since they both have volunteer programs.

Does anyone know if these places hire paid staff during winter and how difficult it is to get in? Any other theatres or places that might offer event work at other resorts?

Edit: planning on doing this in either the 2026/2027 season or the 2027/2028 season. I'm Australian and my 36th birthday is in November 2027. So I should be able to get a visa in Canada, Europe, or some US states. Too old for Japan unfortunately. First preference is Canada.

High quality hoodies?

A few years ago I was part of a sporting club that ordered custom team hoodies for a tournament.

It's literally the nicest comfiest hoodie I've ever worn. Four years and god knows how many washes later, it still feels the same way it did when it was new.

It's really heavy duty, and way warmer than any other hoodie I've owned. It's held its shape and colour over time, and most importantly, the fabric hasn't pilled in the wash. The lining inside is still super soft, it hasn't gotten all scratchy like most hoodies and jumpers do.

Here's the kicker, the guy who runs this sports club refuses to tell me the name of the company he ordered the hoodies from.

Can anyone recommend a hoodie brand that fits the description above? I desperately want more of them.

Anyone got a coupon code for Suri toothbrushes?

Shipping to Australia is so expensive 😭😭 Hoping to soften the blow by bringing the overall price down a bit.

Best I can find so far is 15% off with the code 'hannah'

Hey guys ,

I went to the hardware store and asked for some anchor screws to attach my Dyson charging dock to my plaster walls. I was given these screws, but I'm worried they're too wide for the hole.

Will the anchoring mechanism still work? I know they get narrower as you screw them in, but not sure if that will still happen when going through the plastic dock as opposed to the wall.

Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a good compact electric toothbrush for travel? Something that comes with a case and is powered by either AAA batteries or USB C.

I'm currently using a Colgate Hum which I love, but I've always had trouble getting replacement heads for a reasonable price (not available in Australia), and the generic ones have never fit quite right. It's been discontinued now, so heads are even harder to come by. I'm looking to get a new brush and can't believe I'm having so much trouble finding something similar!

The Phillips Sonic Care One fits the bill, but like the Hum, the heads are very expensive to import to Australia.

The Oral B Optic White is the only option that I can find locally, but it doesn't come with a case.

Any other options I'm missing?

Hey guys,

I'm planning an overseas trip in a few months and would like to accumulate some points while doing so. Can anyone recommend a good rewards card that doesn't have international transaction fees?

Last time I travelled internationally I used a Commbank Awards card but I've had one of those within the last 12 months so won't get the sign up bonus. I usually only sign up to new cards if there's a big points bonus.

Hey guys,

When I click the 'redeem points' button on the internet banking page, it takes me through the authentication process, but after verifying with an OTP and clicking continue, instead of opening the rewards page in a new window, nothing happens. The banking window just disappears, I get logged out, and sent back to the last page on my browser. I've tried both Chrome and Safari. How can I access my rewards?

Hey guys,

I have an access plan through the Disability Recourse Centre that allows me to get extensions on assignments without having to provide a reason/documentation. I try not to rely on it too much but I do need to use it sometimes.

I don't think I've ever used it for quizzes though. I know extensions aren't usually permitted for quizzes because they are considered to have an extension 'built in' because there is a window of a few days where it can be completed. Would there be an exception to that rule for students with an access plan?

I have submitted an extension request via Cloud Deakin and also emailed the unit chairs asking for an extension on a quiz next week, but I don't think I'll hear back until after the long weekend.
