Came from Rivals recently, are supports suppose to “patty cake” when being flanked in Overwatch?

I joined this game since the relaunch and currently sitting in Plat. I do know that healing in OW compared to MR isn’t over-tuned, so I’m not sure if healers are supposed to peel for each other, or just every men for themselves when being flanked.

For example, sometimes when I’m being flanked or targeted I would try to position myself in front of my other support. But most of the time they would still be dealing damage instead of healing me (I’ve used up my resources).
