Drop D question

If you became accustomed to playing using standard tuning but then switched to drop D, did you find that chords that were challenging under standard tuning became more difficult or easier under drop D? I am currently teaching myself "Black Hole Sun" and 'Ive had to make some adjustments, physical and mental.

I'm not a runner. Actually somewhat allergic to exercise, but....

I wear running shoes pretty much all the time unless an occasion calls for being dressed up. The orange and black New Balances I have on now are starting to feel less comfortable with every passing day, and the innersoles are shredding. My feet have been flat as pancakes since I was about 9 or 10 (in my mid-60s, now). I want to replace my NBs but I don't want to get those fugly white and navy mall walkers that they sell in Kohl's--ugh. Need some suggestions--don't have to be NBs, just something that (a) had decent support, (b) does not have an overly thick sole, and (c) will not make me look like an old fart. Budget is a little over $100.

Fishman NEO-D02

I finally received my humbucker pickup yesterday and slapped it on my beginner Yamaha F335 acoustic and connected my amp. All I can say is WOW. What a difference this pickup makes. The sound is...lush. Now I want a better amp!

Does a hair transplant last "forever"?

When hair is transplanted from a donor area to a balding area, does it retain its physical characteristics or can it be adversely by the presence of DHT in the region where it is transplanted? Do most guys start on fin/dut regimens after a transplant to prevent this?

Why can't I use a metronome?

It's not as if I don't have a very good sense of rhythm. Been playing acoustic for about a year, give or take. I've been told that this will help with accuracy when changing chords but it hasn't and it's been a constant source of frustration for me. If you had the same difficulty, how did you get past it? Whenever I try to use one, a few measures in, everything falls apart. It doesn't matter what the bpm setting is. Is it anxiety?

Tampermonkey script development

I'm able to use TamperMonkey + dl-librescore to obtain Community (user-submitted) scores. Anybody know if there are plans in the works to upgrade dl-librescore to hack the "Official" scores paywall? (I wish my JavaScript were good enough.)

Matches made in Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory?

It just so happens that a few years ago, I upgraded my business email to Google Workspace and I get all the Gemini Pro tools you could ever want, including AI. My question for the hive mind is: have you ever used Gemini in conjunction with either dnSpy, Ghidra or IDA Pro and the appropriate MCP components for AI-assisted reverse-engineering, and what were your experiences? (I'm not willing to invest in Claude Code at this point in time.)

As a baritone, how do I achieve this?

If I had to pick an artist, I sound a lot like Chris Cornell, whose music I really enjoy. I've been playing the guitar for almost a year and would like to sing his material while accompanying myself. My question is, How can I train my voice to reach the higher register like he does without my voice cracking? (I have no formal singing training but have been told by more than one person that I have a good voice.)

[P.S. I have 'imperfect pitch.' What happens is that I can recreate a note without a prior reference tone, but when listening to music, I hear a melody as if it were being played a whole step higher. (It wasn't always like this.) But this is actually helpful for staying on pitch. I'm also able to identify chords, but the same problem with the whole-step above business persists and I have to automatically transpose down what I'm hearing.]

Were you ever threatened with this?

I think I may have been in my 20s but when my mother got really riled up to the point of hysteria, she would threaten me with "if you go out, I will have the locks changed before you get back." (There was also massive parentification and enmeshment involved, some might say covert emotional incest.) And I was an exceptionally good kid, toed the line in all aspects of life (because my mother controlled all aspects of my life). Was just wondering if anyone else on this subreddit was subjected to this kind of abuse, and, if so, did you have anyone to advocate for you (I did not). [For context, I am M, mid-sixties.]

Are there any statistics broken down by gender?

That is, have any studies been done that indicate that the incidence of parentification among children is skewed more towards males than females, or vice-versa? (As a male I would be interested to know. I've heard about the 'eldest daughter syndrome'.)

As a Boomer I have fond (font?) memories of this.

The second language I learned to program in in 1992 was COBOL. Loved to look at my code in what I believe was the IBM Line Printer mono font, where you could squeeze 132 characters per line if need be. Printed out on one of the early laser printers, it looked like pages from a novel. Does anybody know if there is a modern-day equivalent of this old IBM standby?

At what point in your career did you realize that you had stalled out

...because you did such good work as an individual contributor and therefore would never be promoted to management? What, if anything, did you do to change your situation?

Perfect pitch

Our Level 2 son, now 18, has an incredible singing voice and plays the piano well (but he works at playing the piano and has to practice just as hard as anybody else. Singing, however, is as natural as breathing to him.) We figured out that he had perfect pitch when he was little, maybe 2 going on 3. We were recently thinking back to this time in his life and figured out that he sang before he was fully verbal. Do you have a child like this?

Which is the better tool for the job in your opinion?

If you had to reverse-engineer a Windows unmanaged-code exe, would your go-to be Ghidra or IDAPro (or something else)?

Satring buzzing is driving me insane

My low-end Yamaha acoustic buzzes when I play chords. Barre chords are especially susceptible to this. Is this due to:

  1. The overall quality of the instrument?

  2. The strings (D'Addario phosphor bronze 10s)?

  3. The guitar's action (which I got adjusted down when I first got the guitar about 10 mos. ago)?

  4. My playing?

If you deal with this, what's your remedy?

Getting reimbursed for copays for my therapist

Is it possible to get reimbursed for copays to my therapist (psychologist)? He is not in network and I get reimbursed at the rate of 80% from our private insurance (Medicare is my secondary as my wife is still working.) My therapist bent over backwards to recently provide them with documentation going back to last August 1 (when Medicare became active as my secondary insurance). It would be great to recoup some of remaining 20% but I don't know if that's possible.

Reverse-engineering a Windows exe mixed-mode (unmanaged + managed code) app

Is the latest version of Ghidra capable of doing this, or do you have to switch to another tool when you encounter the boundary between unmanaged code and managed code?

Gemini for Application Developers, course 1 of 7

I can't believe that I am stuck on the first course of the series. Can't create a Google Cloud Workstation no matter what I do in the lab. My Coursera Plus account is up in September and I thought that I would take a look at this course to see if there was anything worthwhile. Now I have to contact them for support with QwikLabs, which I loathe.
