Anyone find an actual good way to track steps with Garmin watch on desk treadmill?

Desk treadmill arms aren’t moving, so steps don’t get counted.

It’s always the same responses/poor solutions…

  1. Put it in your pocket…then you obviously can’t track heart rate or look at your watch…

  2. Put it on your ankle…thats a pain to do every time you get on and off the walking treadmill, and probably heart rate not accurate and can’t look at screen… that means every time you on walking treadmill, it needs to be a “session” and not just arbitrarily walking on and off a lot…

Do belts need to be narrow if you wearing high rise wide trousers?

I am updating wardrobe to high rise, wide trousers. Have no idea why I had low rise this whole time. Looks so bad. I’m 6ft.

Anyways, it seems that the ones with belt loops everyone always pairs it with a thin belt. 15mm (0.59 inches) or something. Would I be wrong to use my existing belts? 1.25”?

And I think these high rise wider trousers are timeless. I’m not sure about the narrow belt though.

I think the thing that isn’t timeless is people purposely letting the belt end hang off

Why do people say an Air Bike is the best HIIT when it doesn’t seem like it is?

I got a Rogue Echo Air Bike and doing HIIT. Long time natural bodybuilder. New to cardio. 33 year old male wanting to improve my V02 max for longevity.

Because there is resistance, my muscles get fatigued early and can’t go harder in terms of cardio anymore. My HR is like 150-160 only when doing air bike before getting tired and needing to stop.

Idk know my true max HR, but current detection is 201. I know I can probably go higher.

I did a quick jog/run and easily hit 190, cause there is less resistance.

So Air Bike literally prevents me from doing HIIT properly. I’m supposed to be in 90-95% right?

Is the air bike the problem or me? Should I just do regular running?

Worth it with Rogue Echo Bike v3? Or should I get…Zwift Ride with Wahoo Kickr?

So I’m just going through my options so there’s a regular bike I could add but the reality is that I’m gonna be too lazy to put on the bike on the Wahoo Kickr take it off when actually cycling so then I looked at those with Zwift ride, but I don’t know if I should just use my existing rogue echo bike V3 has anyone used it long-term cause everyone says it’s good for interval training but not good for Zone 2 or long-term sessions.

The real bike setup I guess is for people that want to match exactly their bike feeling. I’m only doing this for health.

I am wondering if I get cycling gear like a bib then the rogue echo v3 can be used for non HIIT.

I hate that Zwift Ride and Wahoo are chain driven and not belt driven.

EightSleep worth it without subscription? People exaggerating?

So people keep saying the bed is useless without a subscription. But based on my research the bed can still be set at a certain temperature for the duration that it is on. You just manually turn it on and off. Which it seems not bad at all honestly. Simple to do tbh.

I thought EightSleep 100% was a brick without subscription. But it’s not? And people are just exaggerating. That was my reason for not purchasing…

I’m a software engineer and very technically savvy. and I’ll look at the subscription less automated options and probably make my own solution lol. Should be easy.

Is warranty worth it on this thing? May wait till warranty expires then jailbreak it.

Schwank Infrared Grill Worth it?

In terms of time, quality. Infrared grills are it.

But Schwank is significantly more expensive than BigHorn. Schwank was the original? Plus I want grill table. Thats like over $2k...

Debating propane or natural gas.

But Schwank lifting mechanism is significantly easier. The bad thing is that you have to pull out the grill plate and the drip plate out separately, need two separate handles. idk. I plan on eating seared beef everyday to be honest. May have to cope with ground beef majority of the time though as steak is expensive

Finally got the Walkolution 2

Took a while…but happy with it. Got the Fusion Desk.

I don’t think desk treadmills are worth it if you have to push a button to start. Only manual for me. It’s natural.

The con is that it’s louder than I expected… I half messed up installation and ended up scraping the metal on the fusion desk poles. But nobody is going to see that…

Instructions need to be more clear though. Magnetic tray of fusion desk is meh. Fell off multiple times while installing, I think they should have some sort of mechanical switch instead.

Overall 8.7/10. I just need to look for a ball to sit on while resting.

Anyone ever been to West Hartford Gastro Park?

Seems like a nice vibe, but why is literally all the food at a minimum of 2x the price of what you think it would be for the portion/quality? The food trucks anyways.

Why do people call it "building a relationship" when working with an AD?

Its literally not a relationship. If it is, its 100% one way in their favor. Forcing you to buy a bunch of models you don't even want spending tens of thousands of dollars now I to actually get the watch you want.

Just call it what it is: spending money on stuff you don't want. That ain't a relationship.

And its like people say "oh, my AD was so nice to me", because you probably spent a lot of money with them lmao.

Is the Garmin UltraFit Nylon Strap easy to clean? Fearing build up of dead skin

I have Garmin Tactix with the Silicone Band that it came with. Easy to clean because its silicone, but not breathable really. Holds in lots of moisture and my whole wrist has rashes because I want to keep it on all the time (no gaps in metrics).

You know when your skin gets wet and you get those dead skin rolls. Thats easy to clean off silicone. But the ultrafit seems like those dead skins will get embedded in the nylon. But its more breathable right?

Or should I wear the bungee mount with the least skin contact, but no easy way to remove. Or should I do the quick fit nylon?

Buy Tesla Model Y now or just wait to buy electric GLC in 2-3 years when it has depreciated or both.

I can purchase a Tesla Model Y Premium AWD now, but I really want the 2027 Benz Electric GLC AMG. My build is about $80k..., can't exactly do that now, but saw how existing benz electric depreciated a massive amount just being 2-3 years old with like 10-20k miles.

Waiting 2-3 years for a car is a long time...But if I buy the Model Y now I take a double depreciation hit. Don't want to keep both cars cause double tax and insurance and I will probably only drive one. But realistically, if I wait, I will still be getting 1st year GLC electric. Who knows what reliability is like. If I really wanted to wait and get depreciation. I will need to wait 5 years.... German cars aren't know for reliability. Keeping Tesla as backup is expensive.

I am driving a beater Toyota gas now that works, but eh tired of it.

C Class and GLC are the only Mercedes EVs that looks good

Got that boxy aggressive look still. Back looks bad. But waiting on coupe GLC electric.

Shame that Benz made all the other cars look so bad with that front. The depreciation is truly insane.

Was going to get a Tesla, but meh interior weak. Then Porsche, but insanely overpriced compared to Benz and BMW equivalent.

Idk if these will depreciate as hard because they are actually good looking. But then that’s waiting like 2-3 years…

Starting to realize I won't be saving much money buying Tesla Model Ybecause increased tax and insurance..

Am most likely going to buy Tesla Model Y Premium AWD, which by the looks of it and the popularity is supposed to be the "practical" choice. But with the insurance rates being so high, I will lose like all gas savings...

It terms of price it feels like a luxury purchase, but then again any regular car is $50k nowadays. And I already paid to get Tesla Home Charger Installed (universal luckily)

Idk if I should just save up and get a Porsche Cayenne Electric.

What product do I need to make my hair like this? Why my hair just one thick clump when I put any styler in.

I'm only really concerned with the top. I know I don't have a fade on the sides.

What I used:

  1. Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protection Hair Primer
  2. Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse (Prestyler) - I was told asian hair heavy and needs volume thus this.
  3. Blow Dry Hair Heat then Cold to Lock in...
  4. K.MURPHY FREE.HOLD - Hair Styling Paste - Medium Hold

Problems:

  1. My hair lacks that nice shine
  2. My hair doesn't have those nice comb streaks, but its just one thick clump. It seems any styling
  3. By the end of the day, my hair doesn't even hold and pieces of hair hang down which looks really bad. Have to keep fixing hair.

What product do I need? I have the thick asian hair problem.

Should people with recessed faces not have proper neck posture?

So people say that proper neck posture is a good thing.

I unfortunately have a recessed face. With forward neck posture, my jawline actually looks decent.

But proper neck posture, pretty much a chin tuck, my jawline just melts into my neck…

Should people with recessed face not have proper neck posture?

I’m too old for mewing to have an effect…32 years old.

I tried jaw chewer exercises and gives nice pump. But it seems for me that permanent increased masseter width never happens with me. Like my masseter are very dense, tight, and strong. Just never added much width.

Your experience ordering from Hammer Strength? Will I be able to disassemble and move?

I want to buy Hammer Strength Pullover and ISO Lateral Row.

I think quite small footprint and high ROI.

They say they will install. My home garage needs to be rebuilt from ground up with new concrete foundation. Its going to be a while…, I want these temporarily in the basement. The entry way is small.

Idk if these come fully assembled. If so they don’t be able to fit in the narrow basement entry way and I will need to take apart and move into my garage later.

XMaster Chrome Plates, Dropping them or Deadlift?

I want to get these just because they are thin, don't care for the look. But unlike bumper or iron plates. It seems you can't drop these Chrome plates. Am I wrong? If so, you can't deadlift these and have to almost baby them?

In the real world...why does it seem that nobody takes safety seriously?

Friend bought a new home and asked for help. Its some demolition, putting things dumpster, etc.

I was the only guy putting on work gloves, safety glasses, etc...

Every other guy was like nah, I'm good...I used to get angry at my dad being the same exact way. But why does it seem literally nobody takes basic safety seriously. I always say, if preventing an issue is trivial than why not do it? I'm a hyper analyzer, and constantly running worst case scenarios.

My finger got slightly hyperextended because when dumping some stuff they were just moving so quick. There was no consensus if everyone was ready to dump stuff. All the demolition stuff was wood with screws and nails popping out, Could have easily gotten scrapped bad too. I got hurt because dude was just not as precautious, methodical as I was. I got hurt due to his recklessness.

I didn't say anything, but I really don't want to help again. I don't know these guys as deeply. New to friend group. They all know each other for well over a decade. I don't want to be the "prude" safety guy. But F that, I ain't getting permanently injured with these guys. The risk is working with others, not the actual work itself. God forbid, I work with powertools with these guys.

I'm scared to just ask my friends to help on my home, as I would feel awful if anyone got hurt trying to help me. Literally safety is the first thing I think about.

Note: all these guys are much older than me. And obviously my dad is much older. Older and wiser, not exactly so in my opinion.

Any of you have a dev that is less skilled than you, call you a junior?

At the last place I worked, there was this "experienced" dev mentoring. Well because he built the whole system (solo homegrown dev). No technical management, so nobody knew about the code quality or even what that meant. So he took advantage. This dev built one of the worse codebases known to man.

  • No documentation (I had to reverse engineer everything)
  • Built an API and told me the responses are random. (had to teach myself a whole different language and reverse engineer it and built TS definitions to consume it)
  • No type safety
  • Used libs when the language supported that natively...

Tests

  • Massive lack of process.
  • Low cohesion
  • Tight coupling

Anyways...it takes me a while to fix some bugs and changes (Note this was when AI hype and ChatGPT was all the craze and new, not Claude Code quality at all). A big part of the codebase was definitely AI generated. So at this time its very bad.

And there were times he got mad at me why it took so long for me to fix a bug or when me and others made mistakes. Kept calling me a junior. Like bro...majority of the time when stuff gets messed up in software its because there is no process or system. If I didn't make the mistake, the next dev would have... Had to spend a while to get testing to prevent regressions ugh. The unawareness to realize that he was the bad dev and didn't know how to build maintainable and extensible systems. Let me build a home with duct tape and wood, it works right?
