Dyson V8: How quickly should the battery indicator drop from 3 to 2 lights?

I’m trying to figure out whether I should replace the battery on my Dyson V8. It feels like it doesn’t hold a charge as long as it used to, although the vacuum otherwise works fine.

One thing I’ve noticed: after a full charge, the battery shows 3 blue lights. But after using it only briefly, it drops to 2 lights almost immediately.

Is that normal behavior, or does it point to the battery needing replacement?

Looking for a Bagged Upright Recommendation to Replace My Hoover WindTunnel Max

I’m looking to replace my Hoover WindTunnel Max, mainly because of weight and maneuverability. It’s 17.4 lbs, and in a three‑story townhouse that gets old fast. I realize most bagged uprights aren’t truly lightweight, but even a few pounds less would make a meaningful difference.

I use the Hoover primarily for the remaining carpets in the house. For hard floors, rugs, and quick tasks I rely on a Dyson V8. The V8 is fine for those jobs, but it’s not powerful enough for carpets and the battery runtime isn’t sufficient for full‑house cleaning.

I came across the Kenmore Intuition. It seems okay on paper, but I’ve seen enough comments about quality issues that I’m hesitant.

What else should I be looking at for a lighter, maneuverable bagged upright that still performs well on carpet?

Humidistat retrofit in return trunk - with rectangular opening

During my last furnace/AC upgrade the installer replaced my Aprilaire humidistat with a newer model. Recently I noticed some hissing form that area. I removed the humidistat. Behind, there is a rectangular opening. And no gasket. I retrofitted a gasket using 1/16" closed cell foam. This reduced the hissing but still noticing some.

Meanwhile, I looked at the install manual that is indicating just to drill a hole, and not to create a rectangular opening.

What is the right way to seal this humidistat? Should I try to find an adapter plate?

Air Canada seat selection web link broken from United app?

I know that I have to pay to get advance seat selection on UA flights operated by Air Canada. TO my surprise, the United app has a seat selection link that navigates to Air Canada web site. Assuming a direct integration to "manage my flight" on AirCanada web site.

But it is not working. Getting a web error. Sadly, it also does not work using my booking code on going to Air Canada web site. Does anyone know whether either method is still supposed to work? Or does Air Canada have a multi-day system outage?

How to troubleshoot possibly partly disconnected or leaking HVAC supply duct?

I’ve been noticing for a while that one of the upstairs rooms has noticeably less airflow at the supply registers compared to another room. I know there are a lot of possible causes, so I did some basic troubleshooting first. e.g. checked dampers in supply duct right after furnace/coil stack. Both fully open. Both supply ducts are next to each other before routed to North and South

My system has four supply trunks. One trunk feeds the upper‑south room (two registers). Another trunk feeds the north room (two registers) plus the guest bathroom (one register). Both trunks are the same size, run similar distances, and none of the ductwork is in the attic. Despite that, the north room consistently runs about 1°C hotter.

I did a simple airflow check using a sheet of paper with the system in continuous fan mode (~350 CFM). In the south room, the paper lifts about three “finger widths” at each register. In the north room, it’s only about one to two. The guest bathroom is even weaker. I tried closing the bathroom register completely, but it didn’t noticeably increase airflow in the north room.

Given the layout and the fact that both trunks should behave similarly, my suspicion is that the north-side supply run may have a leak somewhere in the wall or in the ceiling below that room.

Where can I exchange my foreign travel currency in Chicago (preferably NW burbs)

I’ve got leftover currency from various trips back when cash was still useful — GBP, CNY, SGD, MXN, MOP, etc. I’d like to convert it all back into USD.

Banks don’t offer buyback anymore, so I tried a currency exchange in Hoffman Estates. Turns out they only process foreign bills by faxing every single note to a broker for verification, which would take forever — and they still charge a 5% fee on top of the spread.

Does anyone know a place in the Chicago suburbs that handles foreign‑currency buyback in a practical, efficient way?

Looking for in-between studs wall safe - moderate safety, possible some fire protection

I like to get a wall safe to put in some spare keys, keys of two sentry fire file boxes, file cabinet keys, some foreign travel currency, memory stick. Simple to use with keypad.

I realize that such a wall safe will have limits in safety and fire rating.

Pros and Cons of consolidating 401k's into one plan (my Schwab solo 401k)

Most my 401k is with Fidelity from my previous employer. Two years ago I opened a solo 401k with Schwab for my self employment income. I am 55. I am thinking about rolling over my Fidelity to Schwab solo 401k.

Pros:

- one place to manage

- can invest at Schwab into anything I want

Not sure:

- cost of plans (need to do more research) - I think the plans itself both are free. So, it comes down to mgmt fee within funds (e.g. the lifecycle fund that I am using at Fidelity)

Cons:

?

How should I think about this? Am I overlooking some advanced details?

Seatcraft Sienna alternatives - or what seating are you using?

I have a 15 year old Seatcraft Sienna home theater seat composition (4 seats - with love seat in the middle - 114" wide in total). The middle seats got worn out. So, I am contemplating to buy two replacement seats since this model is still being made.

However, I am also not in love with this model. Looks a bit 80's dated to me. However, it is practical with tables on arms. While not expensive it is till a bit much for a Vietnam/China import. I know other HT brands are way more expensive.

Also thinking about getting a simple 4 seat recliner couch. Generally much nicer looking. Downside, there is not really a way to put anything on tables. I know some models have a backrest that cane be moved down. But then I loose two seats.

Just wondering what people use these days and whether I am overlooking something.

Are there any Adjustable furnace legs for 1 1/4" to 2" range?

My furnace sits on some kind of cinder blocks, and I’m planning to attach a right‑angle media filter cabinet. To line up the new cabinet with the furnace opening, I need the filter box raised about 1¼" to 2".

I looked into adjustable furnace feet, but all the ones I’ve found have a much taller minimum height.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for something that can support the cabinet at that height?

Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Poked a small hole into drain pipe of washing machine - can I shorten drain pipe?

I managed to create a small hole into the washing machine drain pipe while removing zip ties near water shutoff valve. As a result I have a leak. Of course I can replace pipe. But also wondering if it is ok to shorten/cut drain pipe. I figured if I cut 10” - 12”, the hole would be removed. There seems to enough slack.
