Is anyone around NE Illinois that knows where to get ingredients?

I have a friend who would like to make sofrito fresh but they don’t want to go all the way to Chicago to get it. Does anyone around McHenry area know where to get culantro? I googled and found a couple outside of Chicago but I’m trying to find a reliable source close to them. Any help would be appreciated ☺️🫶🏽

I used the advice you gave me to make a more acid reflux friendly recipe so thank you.

I (35F) have had GERD for some time now and I have just found out that a lot of the spices and favors that I use flare up acid reflux like garlic and onion. I posted a bit ago on this sub looking for opinions and the ones I got were really useful like try using black cumin or nigella seeds instead of garlic which I am on the look for but have not found yet.

Someone also said that some people made sofrito with celery and carrots to counteract the acidity of the sofrito, so that’s what I did. I cut back slightly on garlic and didn’t add onion as they are a trigger, I added both celery and carrots and blended it all and I was really happy with the outcome. The first taste you get is full of flavor like my other sofrito but this time once I swallowed it I didn’t feel it burn, actually it feels that most or almost all the acidity is cut out or curved even when it hits my stomach.

Another thing I did was switch out the green bell peppers and this time I did red and yellow instead of green and red.

So I just want to say thank you for the ideas, the last few days my acid reflux has been much more manageable. Idk that anyone would want the recipe but if it would help I can add it. 🫶🏽

What are these little curly guys? From a bell pepper

Every time I make sofrito and slice into a bell pepper I find them. It was like every now and again and today I found 4 of them 🤔

Is that a spider mite?!? It can’t just be paranoia 😓

I’m in south west Florida. Idk what this is, I’ve never have bugs theyre not moving but that doesnt mean it’s not alive.

If it is how do I treat it, if it’s a bug do they only live on the leaves? If it isn’t do you know what it is?

Thank you guys 🩷

I mean, IS it bad though? It’s not opened yet so does that technically add time 🤔

When I was in elementary school I was having breakfast in the cafeteria one morning and the carton I got was spoiled and not knowing so I took a huge drink and so I am slightly traumatized. It’s a entire half gallon though and its extremely wasteful if I don’t atleast smell it but oh god if it’s smelly or chonky I’m gonna lose my ish but part of me thinks it’s not a big deal at all and I’m almost willing to gamble all my trauma on it 😂 I do, however, feel that once I open it that it will be a ticking time bomb

It’s been 2 weeks since this date…

Does anyone have a GERD friendly sofrito or sazón recipe? I just found out it’s a trigger 😭

My (34F) acid reflux has been flaring up like crazy and could not for the life of me figure out why so I just started researching all the things I use heavily and I do tend to go overboard with the sofrito 😅 (also it is homemade sofrito without onions because there also a trigger) now I have found that garlic of all things is also an acid reflux trigger. Not only is it in my sofrito but I also add it (fresh and powdered) to a lot of my other recipes, my habichuelas and guisados ofc, I was also just saying a few days ago how I’ve grown to really love the flavor of garlic but now it is found to cause acid reflux.

I have found that I have to get rid of the tomato sauce also so how on earth can I make any type of guisado? I’m crushed 😭 I’ve been so sick and living in hell with this and the culprit seems to have been my best friend, garlic.

I’m making chuletas as I type this and I had to back up on the seasonings and this just isn’t it…they look so ghostly 😢 I know my fiancee loves me and would never be angry and he always eats the food I cook him but how and I mean HOW can I serve him meat that could potentionaly be bland and awful after his hard day of work…all because of my condition. I feel ashamed and I don’t even know why or maybe I’m being stupid and hyper focusing.

If anyone at all could help me I am looking for a new sofrito and sazón recipe (preferably with saffron but whatever is fine) to make them more manageable and any other tips you have for acid would be appreciated 🫶🏽

Can we talk about The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut and the banjo break down at the end?

I’m from Tennessee and this made me so happy and touched my heart so deep I cried the first several times I heard it, my fiancee didn’t grow up where I did as he is from Florida and grew up in Puerto Rico with his family so our musical experiences are wildly different. Unfortunately I have not been able to go back home or see my mom in several years and I moved here to Florida I’m 2013 so it cut me deep.

Even though Coheed and Cambria is top tier for us, I want someones opinion that maybe grew up with banjos and bluegrass like I did. I want ALL opinions but I’m curious what my mountain people think. It’s like a slice of life and if you’re not dedicated you may not find the banjo boogie. It just fills my heart with so much emotion 😭😭

Finally found a gift for my fiancées birthday 🤭

So last year when Coheed and Cambria toured it was my (35f) fiancées (34m) birthday and he had never seen a concert before even being in his 30s and I’ve seen a lot so when I saw them coming to my area I booked it IMMEDIATELY because I needed him to experience a concert and especially of his most favorite band. He needed to feel the music in his whole body and soul and I HAD to show him that. Needless to say it was crazy emotional because he started with yesterdays lost so we both lost it at that show

This year again Coheed came back on Shinedown’s tour so we went to see the show last night and it was unbelievable. We got there pretty early and was able to find a Claudio signed copy of the armory wars. Hes expressed how badly he wants to read the series but due to money we couldn’t get it. Also even if it’s not the first in the series, I could not pass it up

Now, this is a man who gives everything to his family and doesn’t do anything or get anything for himself if given the opportunity and his face was truly as bright as the sun when he saw it I KNEW ☺️ hes not hard to buy for but I wanted this year for it to be something he really loved because this year he has carried me while I have been applying for SSI due to Schizoaffective disorder which schizophrenia is referenced in the novel, idk that until last night when I was reading the back and I think that is insanely coincidental because for the last 8 years it’s been a full on battle for my life against this disorder and it’s not even the only one that’s been diagnosed with me so it’s really just the tip of the iceberg. Idk how many times he’s sang The Pavilion to me…

If I could say anything to Claudio it would be that he has saved so many people including myself and he is deeply loved. We appreciated every single piece of art he has put forward, there’s a lot he understands and you can’t just wish someone into understanding because it really takes life experiences. Last year was his first year here, this year he came back and so I hope next year comes and I get to be blessed with his presence again 🩷

I heard a song today and thought about our time together

This is Luna, she is not with me anymore and I have so much in my head about her. I lost her in a divorce/deportation situation and this is the only place I can share my memories. I’ve tried to forget about what happened because idk what else to do and it hurts tremendously.

I’d like to add that the song is from a Shinedown/Coheed and Cambria tour that just started and I was re-familiarizing myself with Shinedown since I listened to them in high school and found Shinedown’s song Three six five. I know links suck but that’s all I got just so maybe you guys can see. I had never heard the song until today.

You guys are the only one who gets how it could feel, thank you for making a place for that.

I posted a while back trying to help her plant and I’m worried because it was doing great and then all the sudden it has gone down hill so fast.

It was in a tiny container and it was suggested to switch it to a bigger one which I didn’t have and I don’t have money so I had to essentially just make one and add drain holes. I also changed the soil to one for succulents. Someone also suggested I put it out side because it is warm, as I am in Florida. After I put it outside these brown things on the leaves appeared and is spreading fast. Also the soil is turning red/brown as well as the base of the plants.

Does it have root rot? Should I replant it in fresh soil? Idk if I should mention but I also have a monstera that has rust fungus and at this rate since I got the first one that had it this has been a nightmare. Any suggestions would help. Is it possible to save it?

I got a tall boy from Walmart that’s coconut flavored which I’m super stoked for but I’m unsure how much I should be drinking. The bottle is huge so I don’t see myself drinking it too fast especially since I’m adjusting to the taste.

I just want to say thank you, you guys have helped me alot and the posts here. I really hope the aloe works for me as good as it did for y’all 🫶🏽

My PS5 is overheating and I need it pulled open and cleaned. I opened it last night and cleaned under the covers but then it overheated maybe 2 hours later.

It wasn’t THAT dirty but the thing is I have extremely long hair, as I was inspecting it I saw 1 hair inside but when I pulled it with tweezers it unlocked the beast living inside that thing 😩 I felt hair wrapped around my poor PlayStation’s heart. I clean a lot so this was completely unforeseen. Any suggestions between Lehigh and Fort Myers would be great appreciated 🫶🏽
