Hail Mary: Kern County Animal Shelter’s (Cali) longest resident Discord (A1244161) is just a sweet, people & dog friendly baby, 10 months old, 37 lbs. Will be euthanized for ‘no interest’ 10/5 am. Was in foster, adopted, and then surrendered. Foster or adopt, out of state ok; DM me asap

Meet the shelter’s longest resident - Discord. He has grown up in the shelter system and needs out NOW. He is falling apart in the stressful kennel system — it’s loud, scary, smells like euthanasia — who could blame him? Every one else either leaves safely or in a garbage bag after 2 month, but Discord has just waited. The rest of pups at shelters have A#s that start with A125, that’s how long he has been there.

Now Discord is super urgent and needs help getting out of the shelter immediately. This boy has had quite a journey — he's a 10 month old neutered male weighing about 37+ pounds.

The first time he was at Kern shelter was back in March when he was about 4 months old. Shortly after arriving at the shelter he caught a doggie cold and he was lucky enough to find a foster who nursed him back to health. After he overcame his cold, he came back from foster to hopefully be adopted.

He ended up being adopted along with 2 other dogs, but, shortly, all 3 were surrendered to the shelter in Lake Isabella.

Eventually Discord had been adopted again over there, but, then was returned. This poor boy has been in the shelter system within the course of 6 months.

He's basically growing up in the kennels. He recently was transferred back over to our shelter at KCAS because we thought a rescue would be interested in him, but there never was one. Poor Discord is starting to go kennel crazy.

Can you blame him? Spending half your life in a kennel not being walked regularly is going to make any dog go a little crazy. He's a young boy who needs to release his energy outside. Discord is a friendly boy and he gets along with other dogs. A staff member was given extra time to seek placement for him and the clock has now run out.

He is the longest resident Kern County has currently got. This poor boy just needs someone who understands him. He's an energetic young boy who needs tough toys to play with.

This is his last chance to make it out. If he doesn't find a safe outcome, he will be euthanized. Please like and share Discord. His life depends on it. Discord is barely hanging on to his sanity

He will likely need someone with an active lifestyle, he is an energetic pup who will thrive as a walking, running, hiking, camping, or even mountain biking partner or even someone who wants to do advanced obedience and tire him out that way.

I will help arrange transport for adopters (these services are already rescue discounted and range from $200 to $750 out of state depending on distance with dogs going as far as east coast and even Canada)

Fostering in and out of state is possible as well, if within county you can foster directly through the shelter. If out of county you must DM me - fostering through rescue possible in west coast/mountain states through Colorado, and possibly east coast.

AGAIN — DM me with interest but also reach out to the shelter and leave your contact information.

Make sure to put Discord (A1244161) in email subject line and explicitly state in calls and texts. Do not leave A1244161 out.

When you DM me volunteers will follow up with shelter staff to ensure his notes are updated and he is safe while his exit plan is figured out. We will also work on exit plan logistics together with volunteers or with rescue depending on if adopting or fostering.

Please if you cannot foster or adopt — share this post to help Discord find his forever home!!

• adopters can be out of area. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.
• fosters must live within Kern County. All food and medical supplies will be provided
• rescues must be a registered 501(c) (3) + a current rescue partner with the shelter

Missy, a 54 lb, 4 year old Malinois, at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield CA. Removed from list bc sweet/dog friendly & recovered from kennel cough, but is still at the shelter and will be euth. listed for space/no interest next. She needs a foster or adopter, out of area/state, ok DM me

I posted Malinois Missy (A1253701) when she was euthanasia listed for kennel cough. I actually posted 5 dogs, and all are still alive and at the shelter. She had gotten the short end of the stick, not ever in the public view kennels because she got kennel cough almost immediately after arriving. Therefore she was listed for euthanasia. I got her more time and they said they’d playgroup with her that weekend so I could post with more info, but the shelter did not get to it.

2 weeks later she’s recovered from kennel cough and finally in the viewable kennels. She did playgroup this weekend FINALLY and did great. She is social and friendly with other dogs and likes to explore in the yard. She is very people friendly and affectionate, gives kisses and loves pets.

From shelter staff she seems like she could potentially have a bit of toy drive, she likes playing ball.

Despite now being in the front she still has no interest and it’s just a matter of time before she is listed again. The shelter is crowded and she has been there over a month, it seems just for now some staff are trying for her too but they also can only do so much.

DM me and contact the shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue (and message me for transport help). Out-of-area and out-of-state adopters are welcome! For transport I will help you arrange, cost varies depending on destination but there is rescue transport to every state and Canada. Really lovely local boarding available if needed. You must DM me, even if planning to come yourself and don’t need help with logistics, because the shelter is sometimes not great at communication and volunteers can help connect you.

Fostering in or near California is easiest for finding a rescue, but I know some east coast rescues in NC interested in her potentially.

⚠️ Adopters can be out of area and adoptions can be completed over the phone.** DM me for transport arrangement help**. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.

⚠️ Fosters must be within Kern County. All food and medical supplies will be provided.

⚠️ Rescues must be a registered 501(c)(3). \*\*If you would like to foster Missy out of area for a rescue
DM me.\*\*

Looking for your new best friend? This North Bay Area nonprofit rescue has puppies, adults, and seniors. Dog friendly, kid friendly, and some cat/ranch animal friendly pups looking for adopters (or fosters of wanting to open your home temporarily)!

There’s energetic pups ready for adventure, playful dogs, more relaxed adults and babies, and those who like both — ready for whatever home is a best fit both ways. Smaller/medium to large breeds (around 25 lbs ish +)

I volunteer for them and have spent a lot of time with each dog do let me know if any specific temperament questions or reach out to the ranch through email, Facebook, or Instagram.

Urgent! Missy is on borrowed time (A1253701) before euthanasia approval at Kern County Animal Shelter, Bakersfield, California. Very people friendly, she was not given a doggy playgroup session. Out of area/ state okay, dm me! Transport avail

Urgent! Tonight could be sweet Cody’s (A1253581) last night before euthanasia approval at Kern County Animal Shelter (Bakersfield, California) He’s just a yr old, 61 lbs friendly w/ people & dogs. DM me & contact the shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue. Out-of-area & out-of-state ok!transport avail.

Meet sweet Cody (A1253581)

Originally there was a mixup with the shelter volunteers and I was sent Cody’s notes but footage of his puppy kennel mate instead of him (in their defense his photo is very bad and blurry). Now we have some of Cody finally thanks to shelter volunteers going back for him this afternoon.
He got along well with his puppy kennelmate and the other dogs he’s been cokenneled with.

Cody walks well on leash, enjoys spending time with his handlers, and would make a great companion. He is looking for someone to give him the chance he deserves, he is just a young dog at an overcrowded shelter. He is a really pretty boy!

DM me and contact the shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue (and message me for transport help). Out-of-area and out-of-state adopters are welcome!

The shelter says this about Cody:

**Playgroup notes** –
Walks on leash. Friendly with handlers. Friendly with the other dogs. They note he can be sexually motivated and he will be neutered before leaving the shelter if he gets to leave alive.

Cody is a young, social boy who has done well with both people and other dogs. He's at a stressful, overcrowded shelter where even wonderful dogs are running out of time simply because there isn't enough space. At only a year and a half old, Cody should be spending his days exploring, playing, and relaxing with a family—not waiting for his life to depend on one last chance.

⚠️ Adopters can be out of area and adoptions can be completed over the phone.** DM me for transport arrangement help**. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.

Urgent! Tonight’s loving Cerberus’ (#A1247438) last night before euthanasia approval. He is 3 yrs, 58 Ibs, dog & kid friendly! Cerb knows sit & shake, is very affectionate, & loves adventures & pets. DM me & contact shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue (& me for transport help.) Out of area/ state ok

Tonight is sweet boy Cerberus’ (#A1247438) last guaranteed night alive. He is just over a year and a half, 38 lbs, and dog & people friendly! He knows sit and shake, loves attention and pets, and is playful and goofy. He is also potty trained! He would love to join you on adventures or an existing pack. He is not a good fit for a home with kitties or free range birds. Please DM me and contact shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue. Make sure to DM me for transport help. Out of area and out of state okay! They adopt over the phone!

Cerberus is being euthanized for no interest/space. The shelter can hold 198 dogs comfortably and they’re at close to 400. If there is interest he will be given reasonable time to work out.

Cerberus is **such** a sweet guy that he was eligible to leave the shelter for the doggy day out program, for the best temperament dogs at the shelter! Unfortunately he wasn’t picked, so one of the volunteer’s who is a friend of mine took him out to the yard instead. She found out he was going on the euthanasia list and asked for more time, but they said someone else already asked to network him and didn’t.

The volunteer’s notes:

“He's a handsome dog. Very sweet and has sat and waited for someone to save him. He was eligible for Streets of Bakersfield today and was not chosen. This wonderful dog slipped through the cracks in a sea of dogs.

What I know about Cerberus:

*Walks well on leash

*Knows sit and shake

*Gets along with other dogs

*Potty trained

*Is not good with cats or birds

**PLEASE SHARE HIM! IF YOU CAN FOSTER OR ADOPT EMAIL AND CALL THE SHELTER. ALSO COMMENT BELOW OR DM ME SO I CAN SEND A MESSAGE TO THE SHELTER (VERY IMPORTANT)!**”

Official shelter notes:

Playgroup Notes: walked well, friendly with handlers. Goofy in the yard, likes to parkour over dogs.

pulled for streets of Bakersfield prep: walks well on leash, much cuter in person. Knows "sit" and takes treats nicely. Wiggly. Owner surrender: moving; housebroken, good with kids; vocal

⚠️Adopters can be out of area & adoptions can be completed over the phone. DM me for transport arrangement help. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.

Tonight is sweet Edward’s (#A1246498) last night before euthanasia approval. He is 1.5, 38 lbs, dog & people friendly! Ed knows sit, loves attention/belly rubs, & to join you on adventures. DM me & contact shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue (& me for transport help.) Out of area/of state okay!

Edward is such a sweet boy that he got to leave the shelter for the doggy day out program, for the best temperament dogs at the shelter! He had a blast and they had this to say:

“Meet Edward 😍
We had a great day with this guy and learned a lot about him! 🐾

He did great on the car ride, enjoyed playing in the water during bath time, and was curious about everything around him. He's playful, affectionate, and definitely thinks he's a lap dog.

He's got a fun personality and would make a great companion for someone looking for a sweet, active pup. ❤️ — with Kern County Animal Services.”

The shelter says this about Edward:

Playgroup notes-
can pull on leash, some reaction to dogs while walking on leash. Once in the yard dog is much calmer, friendly in the yard with other dogs, does like to run around

Streets of Bakersfield (doggy day out program) Prep Notes -
pulled for sob’ prep: door dashes, walks ok on leash. Table sweeper and mouthy with treats. Knows "sit".

PUPPIES!!! Local North Bay/ Petaluma non-profit rescue is saving all of these babies from the shelter euthanasia list. They need fosters and adopters — fostering is free!!

Please DM me if you have a further questions on the puppies or email roxysranchhaven@gmail.com.

www.roxysranchhaven.org

Fostering and adopting both include group classes and resources. Fostering also includes all supplies, vet care while under the rescue, adoption events, and social media coverage!

All dogs will be spayed/neutered for adopters and are already up to date on vaccines and will be microchipped.

The smallest babies will need to be kept inside and away from grass until they have another vaccine round as with any puppies in the Bay Area.

Even temporarily getting your puppy fix will make a world of difference for these babies who have likely never been in a home.

KCAS in Bakersfield, CA is over twice their capacity and is having to euthanize many good dogs & puppies starting today. See comments for individual posts on each dog or litter. No update = Not Safe. Sweet babies. Out of area OK!

Please note that some of the dogs not showing available on the website are still available but their status has changed due to being added to the PTS list. If interested please go down there or call and email. Give A# not just the name. Check captions for status updates I have. Adoptions fees are waived currently.

🚨KCAS is beyond capacity. The shelter on Friday morning had 371 dogs showing in the system. 😞

▪️Fosters through the shelter must reside in Kern County, food and medication (if needed) will be provided. **DM me if out of Kern County and interested in fostering, as a rescue will have to help**

10 puppies on Tuesday’s euth. list at KCAS (Bakersfield, CA) for ‘No Interest’ or kennel cough. You can adopt over the phone, out of state (even Canada) at this shelter and foster if in county or close enough to California to find a rescue. DM me, I can help organize trusted transport services

10 really sweet puppies — mostly all too young to have attended playgroup, but they’re all co-kenneled with 2-4 others puppies due to space. I also threw Bella in there because she has barely been there and has no networking. If she is adopted, they will treat the eye infection - they likely have started something. But for adoptions she will come with continued meds, as will any puppies with kennel cough.

The shelter is closed tomorrow (Monday 5/24) so if you see this and want more info, in addition to emailing the shelter please DM me as I can ask one of the volunteers who can see their notes and get more info quicker on weight and if any behavior notes on if more outgoing vs shy etc

Please help me make sure this puppies’ lives don’t
end in the back building of the shelter.

** adopters can be out of area. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.

**fosters must live within Kern County. All food and medical supplies will be provided

**rescues must be a registered 501(c) (3) + a current
rescue partner with the shelter

Baby Girl A1247686 is out of time after less than two weeks at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield, CA. She is 6 months old and super friendly, they didn’t even give her a kennel card at the shelter. Can you foster or adopt? Out of are and out of state okay. She is already spayed too

Please DM me ASAP to be connected to the shelter. They’re really hard to connect with a lot of times so volunteers usually need to help, and definitely if you are out of area and need transport connections .

Please help me make sure this puppy’s life doesn't end in the back building of the shelter.

Nyx was the longest resident ever at Oakland Animal Services, and there’s absolutely no good reason why. She was pulled before euthanasia by Roxy’s Ranch Haven in Petaluma, they have many great dogs like Nyx that were listed due to space or length of spay in this shelter crisis - who have had time to decompress and for the rescue to learn their needs in order to match to great forever families

Nyx is an excellent dog, affectionate, friendly, and social, and opened up a lot since being at the ranch! Her pet finder profile hasn’t been updated, she has been learning house training quickly since being in a home and is even more outgoing. She has shown some prey drive, so no cats are recommended for Nyx as she likes to chase. Nyx is very athletic, and can climb a chain link fence or jump fences 6 ft and under. She hasn’t shown a tendency to want to do this at the ranch unless the people or dogs she wants to be with are on the other side. She has also started to learn recall, As such, building a strong bond, continuing to work on her recall, and supervised or even leashed yard time at first is essential to her success. Nyx comes with included group training classes in Sebastopol and ongoing support to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Nyx would do fine in an apartment setting or no yard with a very active adopter who tires out her body and brain (like the group classes!)

Because of her size, energy, and needs, families with kids 10 and up are recommended.

Here is her petfinder profile, please reach out to Roxy’s if you have any questions! You can DM me to be connected to the rescue director over text if needed.

Roxy’s Ranch Haven has many fantastic dogs listed on Petfinder of all breeds, energy needs, ages, and sizes — so if Nyx isn’t your match there is likely a wonderful pup who is.

🐾Meet Tank 🐾

A1244287 | 3 years old | Male | 90 lbs

Tank is a handsome big boy looking for a fresh start after being owner surrendered for escaping. No details on the yard situation, but it is common in this area to leave dogs outside at all times or the majority of the day with inadequate fencing. Tank walks well on leash, is friendly and social, and takes treats very gently. He loves pup cups and affection 🥹❤️

Tank is also friendly and social with other dogs, making him a great candidate for a home with canine companions or playdates. He has a playful side and enjoys attention.

He can be a little shy and nervous at first, but once he warms up, he’s a sweet boy ready to bond with his people. Tank is curious and likes to explore, so he’ll need a secure home with yard supervision, recall training, and shouldn’t be left alone outside. Tank needs someone committed to keeping him safe and secure while he works on recall. Tank appears treat motivated and really loves pets once he’s gotten over his initial shyness.

The shelter does not test dogs with cats or kids.

Please message me to help Tank, asap, don’t wait!

Adoptions can be in any state or even Canada. Transport is available at adopter’s cost. Please DM me for options — cost varies depending on location or if able to meet part way.

Fosters can be within California, and Oregon/Washington surrounding states may also be possible. Fosters within Kern County can foster Tank directly through the shelter. Please DM me so these options can be coordinated properly, as the shelter can sometimes be difficult to connect with. He’ll be neutered before he leaves the shelter, and received vaccinations when he arrived.
