📝 Shelter Notes:

6/30/26: During placement on the euthanasia list, Alex was observed pancaked against the back kennel wall with a tense body, pinned ears, and whale eyes. Staff were able to place a leash over his head and attempted to comfort him with baby talk and treats, but he remained shut down. He was lightly muzzled and carried to the runs. Outside, he displayed a somewhat more relaxed posture and sniffed neighboring dogs, but largely kept to himself. Staff had to carry him back to his kennel, where he again pancaked himself against the back wall.

7/2/26: Alex tucked his head into the corner of his kennel and pulled his legs underneath himself when staff opened the kennel door. Staff slowly knelt down and offered treats, but he showed no interest. When a leash was placed on him, his body became even more tense. He was lightly muzzled and carried to a new kennel.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• 2-year-old intact male weighing 32 pounds

• Heartworm negative

• Received tranquilizer at intake

• No other medical concerns documented

💙 Alex showed some curiosity toward other dogs when outside of his kennel, suggesting there may be a social and affectionate dog beneath his fear. He urgently needs a quiet, patient environment where he can decompress, feel safe, and begin to build trust.

Kiko is a super sweet and friendly boy who desperately needs a foster, adopter, or rescue from BARC before July 7, Houston, TX. He is an amazing pet who is on the euthanasia list for the 2nd time. Please help

🚨💔 KIKO GOT A REPRIEVE — BUT HE IS back on the list 💔🚨
Kiko was supposed to die.
His name was placed on BARC’s euthanasia list two weeks ago, but somehow \*\*Kiko has been given something incredibly precious — a little more time.\*\*
Not a home.
Not a foster.
Not safety.
Just a little more time.
Now he is back on the list again 😢😭
🐶 \*\*Kiko #A2076782\*\*
🩵 Neutered Staffordshire Mix
🎂 2 Years Old
⚖️ 66 lbs
🩺 Low Heartworm Positive (treatable)
Kiko has been at BARC since \*\*May 31st\*\* — an unusually long time for this shelter.
A volunteer who spent time with him describes a dog who is:
✨ Sweet, gentle, and affectionate
✨ Walks nicely on leash
✨ Takes treats gently
✨ Ignores other dogs while walking by
✨ Loves attention and being with people
✨ Keeps wagging his tail despite everything
As the days have turned into weeks, Kiko has begun showing signs of kennel stress. That’s not surprising.
Imagine spending every day confined to a kennel, watching people walk past while hoping someone finally chooses you.
Kiko isn’t a bad dog.
He’s a young, friendly boy who desperately needs out.
💔 Tonight he’s sleeping in a kennel.
He doesn’t know he was almost euthanized.
He doesn’t know he was given extra time.
He only knows that every day people walk past his kennel, and he keeps hoping one of them will stop.
⏰ \*\*Kiko urgently needs a foster, adopter, or rescue commitment before the July 6th. This is his last chance.\*\*

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DXvu9wDUw/?mibextid=wwXIfr

TO BE EUTHANIZED 7/4/26 IN NYC

Date of Intake: 30-May-2026

Darling little BOBBY used to live in a very busy household which included 4 adults, a child, a large male dog, medium female dog, and a cat. He was described as a very loyal boy who loved spending time with his family. But now a family member has said he must go! Bobby was tolerant of the 10 year old child in the home. He was friendly and outgoing with the other dogs, and with the cat. Bobby prefers contact on his own terms and is hoping to find a patient and experienced person who will understand his needs and preferences. A slow approach together with some gentle guidance will go a long way to help Bobby feel more comfortable. Help him brush up on his manners and be the best he can be! To foster or adopt this cutie pie, please message our page today.

BOBBY, ID 253475, 10 years old, 19 lbs., Male
Queens ACC, Westie/Maltese/Poodle Cross, White
Owner surrender reason: Date of Intake: 30-May-2026: Owner lives with her father who no longer wants Bobby around.
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope only
No children under 13
Medical Behavior: shaking, whimpering, avoids eye contact. Muzzled for exam and tasks but tolerated all.

AT RISK MEMO:

Bobby is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the prior home, Bobby was reported to display fearful and defensive behavior toward unfamiliar people, including hard barking, growling, lunging, snapping, and attempting to bite. He is also reported to react defensively when startled. During intake, Bobby barked at an unfamiliar staff member but settled when ignored and offered treats. He also growled when his owner attempted to remove his harness. Additionally, Bobby has a reported bite history involving his owner during harnessing, resulting in a skin-breaking scrape after Bobby growled and briefly held on. Bobby is reported to love his head scratched Medically, Bobby has a cherry eye.

Bobby came into the care center as an owner surrender due to his behavioral concerns and landlord no longer wanting him in the home. Bobby prior owners noted that he prefers contact on their own terms, Aloof/Mellow, Social/Affectionate, Vocal.Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Bobby be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Bobby to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Bobby to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Bobby presents with outside of the care centers.

INTAKE NOTES—Date of Intake: 30-May-2026

Upon intake, Bobby barked at staff member who entered the room but stopped when treats were tossed and when staff ignored him. When owner attempted to remove harness, Bobby began growling so the owner pulled off the harness using the leash. He allowed staff to take the leash and walk back to medical. While walking, Bobby had a mid-raised tail that wagged softly when spoken to. Medical staff handled for vaccines and Bobby growled throughout the interaction. He allowed staff to walk back to kennel without issue.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES—BASIC INFORMATION

Bobby is being surrendered after 7 years—the owner lives with her parents and her father no longer wants Bobby in the home. The landlord says he must go due to his destructive tendencies. Bobby used to live with 4 adults, a 10 year old child, a male Golden Labrador Retriever, a female Cocker Spaniel, and a cat. He was tolerant with the child. Bobby is friendly and outgoing and excited with familiar dogs. He is shy with unfamiliar dogs. He is friendly and outgoing with cats. Bobby doesn’t like to share his food. One time last year Bobby growled when his owner was trying to put on his harness. She persisted so he bit her, leaving a scrape. Bobby goes to the bathroom on wee wee pads. He doesn’t care for strangers who approach his yard or come near his door; he may have separation anxiety; he pulls hard on the leash and does not go on walks; and has destructive tendencies with furniture, walls, shoes, and household items. He prefers contact on his own terms and does not like his paws touched or collar grabbed. He allows his family to bathe and brush him, and the groomer comes to the home where he sometimes growls/snaps. He has never been in a car and has not been taught any cues. He was fed dry Cesar dog food. He does not like treats or toys. Overall he is described as a very loyal dog who spends time around his family. He loves his head scratched when he allows family to touch him.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:

Date of Intake: 30-May-2026
Spay/neuter status: No
Means of surrender: Length of time in previous home: 7 years

Strangers- reactive to men when on walks - noted to hard bark and lunge. With others, he prefers contact on his own terms. In the home, he also prefers contact on his own terms. And growls when strangers are heard near the apartment door.
Children: Currently lives with a 10-yr old child and noted to be tolerant.
Dogs: Familiar- Has lived with a male Golden Lab and a female Cocker Spaniel. He is noted to be friendly, outgoing, excited, jumps up.
Unfamiliar dogs on leash : Shy/contact on his own terms, alert barks and jumps up, curious.
Unfamiliar dogs off leash- No experience.
Cats- Currently live with a dsh and noted to be friendly and outgoing.
Resource Guards food and noted to growl / hard bark and have a tense body over, snap.

Bite history- Bobby bit the owner last year while she was attempting to put on his harness. Client stated that he growled first and then snapped. He caught her hand and his teeth left a scrape on her hand. No puncture and medical attention was not sought.

During bath time Bobby has snapped at the client's mom, once in the past . He now allows grooming and the groomer comes to home.
Bobby growls at the mop and broom when someone is cleaning. She has not tried redirection or placing him in another room which I advised for the mean time.

She notes that her father does redirect with high value treats because Bobby doesn't eat dog treats . Owner also notes that her mother left to Mexico recently and her father who is out of work was helping care for Bobby. She explained that there have never been any bites or attempts toward her dad.

SHELTER ASSESSMENT SUMMARIES: Date of assessment: 6/13/2026

Due to Bobby's defensive behavior and touch sensitivity in the prior home, a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.

PLAYGROUP SUMMARIES: DOG TO DOG:

According to Bobby's previous owner(s), he is friendly and outgoing, jumps up, and is overly excited with familiar dogs. He is shy, preferring contact on his own terms, alert barks, and jumps up at unfamiliar dogs on leash. He has no experience with unfamiliar dogs off leash. He is reported to have lived with a large male dog and a medium female dog.

06/15/26 Bobby is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He readily approaches the gate and will sniff the female with a neutral frame before demand barking and then jumping up on handler exuberantly. When the gate is opened, Bobby readily approaches the female with a forward frame and she backs away. Bobby disengages and will mark along the yard as the female stands neutrally nearby. When he approaches again, she quickly backs away so Bobby is guided away from the female.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

06/29/26: Bobby is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. The handler is able to leash him with ease, and Bobby puts a paw on the handler's shoulder before the handler can lift him out of kennel. He is brought outside for a walk. He jumps up on the handler's legs frequently at the beginning of the walk, but then finds a partially chewed beef trachea on the sidewalk and picks it up. Carrying the chew in his mouth, Bobby walks briskly at the end of the leash. When returning to the building, the handler is able to exchange the chew for a high value treat. After that, the handler is able to pick him up, return him to kennel, and un-leash him with no issue.

6/22/26: Bobby is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He will attempt to push out of kennel as the handler leashes him and will then jump out of kennel as the handler goes to pick him up. He is carried out of kennel and is then placed on the ground where he will begin to jump onto the handler's legs as they walk out of the Care Center. He will pull towards dogs but is able to be redirected. He will walk ahead of the handler, pulling mildly against the leash towards objects on the ground. Towards the end of the walk, Bobby will take some treats from the handler and catches some that are tossed to him. He is returned to kennel with no issue and secured safely.

06/15/26 (PG): Bobby is at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He jumps up repeatedly, but the handler is able to leash him and bring him outside. In the yard, Bobby will jump up on the legs of various handlers. After his interaction, Bobby is returned to his kennel without issue.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner

No children (under 13): Due to Bobby behavioral concerns, we reccomend he be placed in an adult-only home at his time.

Place with a New Hope partner:Bobby came into the care center as an owner surrender due to his behavioral concerns and landlord no longer wanting him in the home. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Bobby presents with outside of the care centers.

Potential challenges:
Resource Guarding, Destructive behavior, Handling/touch sensitivity, Basic manners/poor impulse control, Separation anxiety/Anxiety, Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration, Strength/leash pulling, Bite history (human)

Potential challenges comments:
Resource guarding: In the prior home, Bobby was reported to guard his food, displaying growling, hard barking, a tense body posture, and hovering over his food bowl when approached. It is essential to work on desensitizing him to having his possessions handled by using techniques like trading up for higher-value items and practicing "drop it" and "leave it". Please see handout on Resource guarding.

Destructive behavior: In the prior home, Bobby was reported to engage in destructive behaviors involving household items, furniture, walls, and shoes.

Handling/touch sensitivity: Bobby has significant handling sensitivities and has displayed growling, barking, lunging, snapping, and biting when physically restrained or handled. He has reacted negatively when pushed or pulled off furniture, when his paws are touched, and when his collar is grabbed. Although he allows familiar family members to bathe and brush him, he has escalated during grooming procedures by growling, barking, snapping, and attempting to bite.

Basic manners/poor impulse control: Bobby is reported to frequently jump on people.Consistent training to teach him to sit or stay when greeting people, using positive reinforcement and redirection, will help manage this behavior. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control.

Separation anxiety/Anxiety:In the prior home, Bobby was described as generally anxious, displaying excessive barking, pacing, whining, difficulty settling, and signs of distress when left alone. Please see the handout on Separation anxiety and generalized anxiety.

Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Reacts to on walks: Bobby has a history of reacting to strangers, particularly unfamiliar men. His owners reported that he will hard bark, growl, lunge, snap, and attempt to bite when male strangers approach the home, yard, or family members. He is also reported to react defensively when startled, responding with growling, barking, and snapping.Upon intake, Bobby barked at staff member who entered the room but stopped when treats were tossed and when staff ignored him. When owner attempted to remove harness, Bobby began growling so the owner pulled off the harness using the leash. Bobby's body language and behavior suggest discomfort around unfamiliar people, and his warning signals should be respected. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression/On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration.

Strength/leash pulling: Bobby is reported to pull strongly on leash and will benefit from continued training focused on loose-leash walking and engagement with his handler. Please see the hand out on Strength/leash pulling.

Bite history (human): see bite hsitory.

🩵 48.8 lbs
🩵 Heartworm Negative
Shelter staff have observed a frightened young dog who needs patience and understanding.
Despite his fear, Toby has shown moments of trust and affection:
✨ Wagging tail
✨ Soft facial expressions
✨ Accepts petting
✨ Responds to gentle encouragement and baby talk
✨ Relaxed enough to lie on his side against a handler ❤️
One shelter note described Toby following a handler after being encouraged with baby talk, then settling down and resting against them once he felt safe.
That dog is still in there.
The shelter environment is simply overwhelming him.
Like many frightened dogs, Toby struggles when stressed and has reacted strongly around other dogs. What he urgently needs is a calm environment where he can decompress and feel secure.
He is also being treated for a cherry eye and conjunctivitis—conditions that are manageable and treatable.
⏰ DEADLINE: MONDAY, 7/6 AT 1 PM CT
⚠️ BARC has stated there will be NO extensions.
🏡 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE
🚗 OUT-OF-STATE AND CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE

BARC (Houston, TX) 7/6 Euthanasia List Extended Dogs. Each dog needs a hold by 1pm CT. Please share.

All these dogs are extended from BARC's 7/2 list.

Each (other than Ave Maria) needs a hold by 1pm CT, Monday, 7/6, to survive.

Please do not count on BARC extending them again.

If you are interested in adopting (US/Canada) or fostering (Houston, TX, only) any of these dogs, please direct message (DM) one or more of the following networkers: u/BanditY77, u/lingeringneutrophil, u/holly_holly_holly, u/fugueink, or u/No_Masterpiece9550.

Be aware that because of the New World screwworm outbreak there are restrictions on nonhuman travel, varying by destination.

Ave Maria (5Y female Staffie-Sharpei mix): Sent to Adoptions, without her puppies, who are now dead. (BARC says they were euthanized for a medical condition.)

Thank you, u/wenchette, for showing me how to get short Reddit URLs!

If there are others added, I will update this post.

Please understand that we must treat the 1pm deadline as nonnegotiable. BARC and BARC alone decides if a dog gets more time, and they usually say no.

Don't forget the many other wonderful dogs on the long-stay list (updated hourly):

‼️ URGENT: Sweet Bruno is in boarding and sinking into depression. Donations, fosters, or an adopter needed ASAP to save his life! (ORLANDO, FL) 💙🙏

Bruno is only alive today because of quick-thinking rescuers and Raiden’s Haven, who intercepted him right before he was scheduled to be euthanized. He was given a lifeline, but now he is stuck in boarding, and we cannot cover the costs indefinitely. He desperately needs a hero.

🐾 Meet Bruno!

Age: 5 years old (turns 6 in January)

Personality: Handsome, very well-behaved, loving, and fiercely loyal once he knows you.

Dog-friendly: Yes! He loves dog parks, walks, and playing with other dogs.

Cat-friendly: Not a fan of cats.

Kid-friendly: Good with older, respectful kids. No young children.

💔 Bruno's StoryBruno was a beloved family dog, but active young kids in the home repeatedly pulled at his tail and ears. Bruno gave a small head shake—which was labeled a "nip"—to ask them to stop. No harm was done, but it became a death sentence. An appointment was made to euthanize him.

Rescuers stepped in to save him, but two back-to-back foster placements fell through (one due to landlord restrictions). With nowhere else to go, Bruno had to go into commercial boarding.

📉 The Current SituationBruno is not adjusting well to the isolation of a kennel. He is becoming depressed, and we fear the longer he stays there, the more his wonderful personality will fade. He does beautifully during playtime but shuts down in his run. He cannot end up back at the shelter.

🚨 SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA 07/08 🚨

Austin has this quiet way of locking eyes with you that makes it feel like everything else disappears for a second. He doesn’t look away, just steady, focused, almost like he’s trying to understand what’s going on around him and where he fits into it.

He shares a kennel with William, the very fearful boy, and somehow in the middle of all of that stress and noise, Austin still holds onto this calm, observant energy. He’s young, about a year old, and just sitting there waiting while the days pass him by.

It’s hard to understand how a dog this striking and aware is still overlooked. Please share him everywhere. He deserves a chance to leave this kennel alive.

Urgent set for Euthanasia tomorrow 7/1 for space 🙁
Luna #A1250176
Female, 3 years, 60 pounds
$0.00 ADOPTION!

Luna has been waiting at the shelter since 5/28 after being surrendered by her owner due to moving. Nearly 30 days later, this sweet girl is still waiting for someone to notice her.

Luna is a beautiful, affectionate dog who just needs a chance.

She was a little shy coming out of her kennel, but she leashed up nicely and happily joined me in the play yard. Once outside, her personality started to shine. Luna loves playing ball and will even bring it back for another throw. She appears to know some basic commands and enjoys interacting with her.

Luna lost her home through no fault of her own and deserves another chance with a family who will love her forever. Please help share Luna so she can finally be seen.

Playgroup: Shy coming out of the kennel but walks well. Calm in the yard. Likes the pool. Okay being greeted by other dogs but more interested in exploring the yard. Shelter cannot test with kids or cats.

Elsie is a 4-year old Mastiff mix girl who already lost her sister to euthanasia at BARC shelter, Houston, TX. It’s her to be euthanized tomorrow 7/1/26. She is gentle, calm, not dog reactive. The perfect girl can be adopted to US/Canada. Please get in touch if you can help

🆘🩷 ELSIE WAS ABANDONED. NOW SHE’S RUNNING OUT OF TIME. 🩷🆘
Elsie (#A2080551) was reportedly left behind in a backyard when her owner walked away.
Now this gentle 4-year-old Mastiff mix is facing euthanasia at BARC and needs a foster, adopter, or rescue by Wednesday, 7/1 at 1 PM.
🐶 ELSIE #A2080551
🩷 Mastiff Mix

✨ Easy to leash
✨ Walks beautifully on a loose leash
✨ Calm and gentle
✨ Friendly with handlers
✨ Stays close to people
✨ Little interest in other dogs
✨ Loves being near her humans
Staff repeatedly describe Elsie as calm, quiet, and easygoing. She walks nicely beside her handler, settles comfortably on her bed, and often simply watches the world go by.
One note described her whining when her handler walked away. 💔
Another described her staying close during her outing, choosing companionship over adventure.
Elsie isn’t asking for much.
Just someone to stay.

Final plea for amazing Cricket, petite 1 year old labrador retriever mix. Scheduled for euthanasia tomorrow Tuesday 6/30 @ 1 pm CT, BARC Houston, A2080265. Someone adopt this little sweetheart.

🏡 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, OR RESCUE

🚗 OUT OF STATE OR CANADIAN ADOPTION IS POSSIBLE - cost is typically around $600 USD (give or take). The fee includes transport, boarding, full medical, spay/neuter, and a health certificate.

🆘On the euthanasia list Saturday, 6/27. There will be no extensions per BARC. 🆘

⏰Cricket #A2080265 must have a hold no later than 1PM or she will lose her life.🥺

💜🐶 Cricket #A2080265 6/10/26 Stray Labrador Retriever Mix | Spayed Female | 1 Year Old | 32.2 lbs | HW Low Positive

💜 Volunteer Notes: Cricket ran across a busy street in front of my truck this week, I swear they see me coming! We turned around and watched her wag her tail at a woman and kid that were leaving a nearby business, so I think she might like kids! She came right up to us without having to trap. I was able to leash her with ease and she loaded up in my truck ready for an adventure like "Where are we going?" Well Cricket, we were on our way to dinner so I guess you're coming with us! Cricket rode happily in my backseat and was immediately great on the leash. She sat under our table quiet, and polite, and asked for attention and pets here and there. She might be the calmest 1 year old dog I've ever met. This girl is literally perfect! She's a petite 32lbs, a perfect adventure size take anywhere type of dog. Minus those pesky heartworms, I can't find a thing wrong with her. Her personality is top notch! She let me give her a good bath without issue to get rid of all those fleas, and she instantly made herself comfortable on the bed that evening and enjoyed playing with some toys before passing out at the foot of the bed without budging all night. She's such a sweetie, is low key, but also a little playful. I LOVE HER. She did great on her temp tests with both a male and female dog giving polite sniffs and happy tail wags like she wanted to play. She enjoys chasing toys, but stops once she's "made her kill!" if it doesn't continue to squeak. She has the happiest smile, and great ears with one that flops over. She's just the cutest petite mix of dog and would make a fantastic addition to any home. Some of the best dogs in life are free on the street!

Volunteer Visit 1: I had to visit my most perfect Cricket! She was waggy and happy in her kennel with tiny kisses for me through the bars! I think she remembers me! She was easy to leash and walked perfectly on her way outside with a waggy tail. She kept jumping on the bench to get close to me or maybe it was just getting closer to my snackiess! I feel like she's got a little bit of heeler in her since she's the perfect get up and go sized dog, and hopped on the bench with ease. She enjoyed lots of treats and took them gently from my hand. She let me dress her up in silly hats club and was happy to show off her new outfit with a smile. I love this dog so freaking much. I can't imagine her former owners simply not caring about her, she's such a lovely dog! One her third temp test she met a larger female mama dog and they walked on leashes next to each other like they were old pals. Just happy hanging out with my friend tail wags! The only test Cricket didn't pass with flying colors was her heartworm test, but that's not her fault. Once she's through with treatment, she's hoping her next family will be able to keep her safe from those pesky things! Cricket walked right back to her kennel easy peasy!

Volunteer Visit 2: I had to visit my girl last weekend who is now on 6/27 Sat euth, she was wiggly and happy in the kennel for me but was not the biggest fan of the cone they had recently put on her. She was easy to leash again and trotted down the row of dogs with polite sniffs and happy tail wags. She's always walked perfect on a leash even with her silly cone! She immediately did a long tinkle outside so she's more than likely potty trained. She met multiple dogs outside with the same happy tail wags, she's just a perfect girl! Stupid heartworms! She let me dress her up in silly hats club and take all the photos again. If I had space in my life for another dog I'd scoop her up and never let go. Love you Cricket!

📝 Shelter Notes:

6/11: Cricket greeted staff with a neutral body, open mouth, soft wagging tail, and soft eyes. She was easily leashed, walked calmly outside, and returned to her kennel without issue.

6/15: Staff reported that Cricket kept her kennel clean overnight and walked nicely on a loose leash with her tail curled over her back and wagging.

6/18: A volunteer described Cricket as very playful and noted that she loved spending time with people. She remained quiet in her kennel and kept her area clean overnight.

6/21: Cricket walked calmly to and from the runs and remained friendly and social. After receiving a cone, she spent time trying to remove it but remained active and engaged while walking with volunteers.

6/22: During walks, Cricket would whine when staff passed her kennel because she wanted attention. She walked well on a loose leash, kept her kennel clean overnight, and paid little attention to other dogs she passed.

6/24: Staff noted that Cricket greeted them at the kennel door with a happy tail, wiggly body, and open-mouth smile. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash, although she occasionally became excited and pulled toward treats.

🚑 Medical Notes:

• Heartworm low positive • Recently spayed • History of mild hair loss and healing wounds on her head that no longer require treatment • Was noted to be in heat at the time of her spay procedure • Currently weighs 32.2 pounds

💜 Cricket is a young, playful dog who clearly enjoys human companionship and attention. She has consistently been described as friendly, social, and full of personality. She urgently needs a foster, adopter, or rescue commitment to save her life.

Houston, TX: Sweet Senior Staffordshire Mix Ricardo Pepi Has Until Monday at 1 PM to make it. Friendly with people, HW negative, calm, easy to handle. Help this old boy out. Can be adopted to US/Canada

Update: he was euthanized at the shelter 💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭

Ricardo Pepi (#A2080623) is an 8-year-old Staffordshire mix who should be spending his golden years in a home, not facing euthanasia in a crowded shelter.
This 42-pound boy was found as a stray and brought to BARC on June 12. Since arriving, staff have repeatedly described him as friendly, affectionate, calm, and easy to handle.
Some notes from shelter staff:
❤️ Greets people with a wagging tail and wiggly body
❤️ Gently accepts treats
❤️ Walks well on leash
❤️ Quietly rests on his bed
❤️ Enjoys attention and human companionship
❤️ Calmly allows handling and leashing
While Ricardo has shown some reactivity toward another dog while passing a kennel, his interactions with people have consistently been described as friendly and affectionate.
He is also heartworm negative.
Sadly, shelter veterinarians recently noted signs of old facial trauma and muscle wasting on one side of his face. He has also developed an upper respiratory infection and is currently receiving doxycycline. None of this changes the fact that Ricardo remains a sweet, resilient dog who continues to greet people with kindness despite everything he has been through.
⏰ DEADLINE: MONDAY, 6/29 AT 1 PM CT
BARC has stated there will be no extensions.
Ricardo Pepi needs:
🏡 Adopter
🏡 Foster
🏡 Rescue placement
Out-of-state and Canadian adoptions may be possible through rescue partners. Transport typically costs around $600 USD and includes medical care, boarding, health certificate, transportation, and spay/neuter services.

No dog should survive years on the streets only to lose his life because the shelter ran out of space. Ricardo Pepi deserves a soft bed, a caring family, and a chance to know what it feels like to be loved.
