Booking.com has f’ed me out of 2 separate refunds

1st one was for a no show taxi ride from the airport (in a foreign country after a 12 hour flight so that was nice) that happened at the end of May. 3 separate CS chats all saying my refund would show up in 48 hours and it never has.

2nd one was a flight in Asia. Airline cancelled the flight yet booking.com still shows the flight happening as normal and still hasn’t given me my money back. Same thing, 2 CS chats both saying 48 hours and nothing.

How are they allowed to stay in business?

Question: Why can’t we make a cream or something that breaks down and eventually removes tattoos completely?

I have 5 tattoos, 3 of them are coverups. 2 of them are small, 2 of them are LARGE and the 5th one is literally my entire chest. They are all very good to extremely well done very expensive, very nice tattoos.

I regret them all and even paid in full for laser removal for all of them right before Covid hit. The place refunded me but I never chased laser again.

Which leads me to my question - why haven’t we developed the tech yet to remove tattoos by cream or some other way besides laser? Ghosting and residual ink… laser just isn’t there yet but the person who patented such a product would instantly be rich beyond belief imo and the demand surely has to be there.

Any insights or idea on how close to such a product we actually are? ✌️

Just finished a month long stay - my thoughts.

I just finished staying near the Jesenského tram stop for a month (in an apartment that had an excellent view of St. Martin’s and Bratislava Castle) and these are my personal thoughts from my experiences.

Background: From USA (Dallas) and have been to nearly 30 countries, most of them 3 times or more each. We get up early almost every day and normally walk 22k-30k steps and use public transportation almost daily. We did not rent a car nor take any Ubers during this particular month.

Our month in Bratislava was one of the best months we’ve ever had in all of our travels! It wasn’t perfect, no place is, but it did exceed all of my expectations.

THE GOOD: Nearly everything.

Amazing architecture. Well documented and extremely interesting history. Beautiful views from all around the city. Efficient public transportation. Conservative values and a strong sense of family. Nice city parks and absolutely outstanding hiking in the surrounding areas. Very few homeless people and crime compared to other similar-sized western cities. Great general shopping, grocery options and food availability. People were much nicer and warmer than I was led to believe they would be, older women in particular.

THE BAD: Not much.

Stag/Hen party idiots who made a spectacle. Large amount of the population still smokes or vapes so smoke and cig butts everywhere. Lack of public restrooms. Sh*t-tier graffiti scribbles everywhere including on some of the most amazing historical structures. I didn’t buy one of the €50 embroidered Bratislava zip-up hoodies that most of the souvenir shops near Micheals Gate sell and still regret it lol.

In total we absolutely loved Bratislava! We hope to one day come back and would stay in the same location again.

It was nearly impossible to pick only 20 pictures from our trip for this post (I took over 600) but I did my best. I hope you enjoy them and THANK YOU Bratislava for a wonderful month!

Which Tokyo IHG for Feb 2027 and should I drop the CSP for the IHG Premier for my personal situation?

Background: Wife and I are traveling all the way around the planet and this will be our last 5 days before flying home to the states (a 9 month journey across 11 countries). We travel for a month or so in each location so Airbnb and booking.com are much more economical. In fact we both still have our $100 travel portal credits available.

We both have a CSP that we use and pay for literally everything, nearly our entire lives with, and yet we still don’t have as many points as you’d think (only around 240k and 130k currently).

We’d like to stay in the nicest place possible within reason in Tokyo for 5 days before our flight. We will have just completed 5 days in Osaka for Christmas, 2 weeks in Kyoto for New Year’s and 4 weeks in Tokyo (at an Airbnb I suppose, I haven’t booked this final leg yet, it’s the only accommodation booking I haven’t yet made).

Question 1: Where to stay?

Question 2: Should I transfer every Chase point to Hyatt before Oct 1 and begin exclusively using my IHG Premier card instead? I ask because of the 4th night free IHG benefit and the upcoming CSP Hyatt transfer devaluation.

Again we plan to travel full time for the rest of our lives so either we do this or move to a cash back card I suppose, we’d rather have tons of free hotels nights and lots of travel insurances instead though.

Thank you for reading and for your suggestions.

Which Tokyo Hyatt for Feb 2027 and should I exchange the CSP for the IHG Premier?

The constant car and motorcycle engine revving has nearly ruined my stay (Tallinn)

Located on the streets near kissing hill park near old town. I’ve been here now for 3 weeks, in a very nice original apartment that was not inexpensive, and it’s been the worst part of my time in Estonia by far.

I had to buy 2 fans to circulate air inside the apartment because I can’t even leave the windows open for air flow. This is an every night occurrence - where are the police?

I’ve recently lived in Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna all for a month each and there was NEVER anything like this.

90% of the cars and bikes are complete shitboxes too. Why is this tolerated/allowed to go on night after night?

Where to get Indonesian Rupees from?

Hello, I (U.S. passport/citizen) will be staying in KL for a month before traveling onward to Indonesia, particularly Raja Ampat, and I would like to safely acquire approximately $1000 USD worth of IDR before I fly.

What bank/where should I go in KL to obtain IDR? Again I will only have my bank card, not physical currency. Thank you! 🙏

Can I buy something in Kuala Lumpur for Bali belly prevention?

We will be in KL for a month before traveling to Raja Ampat and then to Bali for a month.

Is there something we can buy in KL and bring with us to Indo for stomach issue prevention? REALLY don’t want to be sick especially on our very expensive Raja dive trip. TY! 🙏

Scientology in Vienna

Didn’t know they had a foothold here.

Sad to see people actually stop and do the e-meter test. Where is Shelly Miscavige?

Are there any must visit bag stores in Vienna?

I’m traveling full time and won’t be in Tokyo until the end of January but I am in Vienna now. Are there any must visit bag stores here?

I mostly would like to find a new ultra light weight carry on roller bag (less than 6 pounds). The one I have now is functional but is simply too heavy. TY!

How do vendors inside the grand bazaar stay in business?

So many of the shops sell such very similar items; how do the inner shops of the grand bazaar manage to stay in business?

Simply because of the total number of daily visitors?

Seems to me like they would really struggle to stay in business because of the amount of competition.

What are the biggest differences between Balkan countries and countries in Central Europe?

Currently traveling through all of Central Europe 1 month at a time and I am planning a long journey through the Balkans next.

What will be the biggest differences as I travel between CE and the Balkans that I need to plan for?

Which Balkan countries will have the most scams, the most trash and honestly just not worth dealing with?

TY!

Any updates on a new Hyatt CC? Worth waiting for/getting?

Traveling abroad long term so I’m out of the loop. With Chase transfer changes on Oct 1 coming is there a new Hyatt card coming? Is it worth getting?

We follow a simple Boglehead investing strategy and it seems like once one reaches a certain point in life that dealing with points isn’t even worth it so I’m thinking about transferring all the Chase points we have to Hyatt before Oct 1 and just using them up wherever and switching to a cash back card/strategy instead.

Which bag Sub is right for me?

Here’s the deal, I sold my house and everything in it and travel the world full time/permanently. I have a guest bedroom at a relative’s house I use for mail and for keeping things like old photographs; otherwise I don’t own anything.

I use/live out of an Osprey 26+6 Transporter (had the original 26+6 but ditched it for the new version and LOVE IT) plus a Hanke top opening 20” carry on. My spouse has the exact same setup plus she also carries a TomToc 3.5l sling.

So we don’t fall under “one bag travel” although I feel like we are closely aligned. We definitely don’t fall under “many baggers” as we don’t collect bags.

I used to mod the slow travel sub years ago (don’t now) and it’s not very active and definitely not to the level of bag discussion that this sub is.

Thoughts? Is there a “people who 2 bag” sub? Thx!
