realised i undercharged a job by about 40%

did a repair last week. new tap, some pipe work took me a few hours. charged what i thought was fair. then i sat down and added up what i actually spent on parts and fuel. plus my time. came out way over what i charged.

feel like an idiot. this keeps happening cause i never track what im spending in the moment. i just guess and hope.

i know i need a better system. just something simple that tells me if im actually making money.

anyone else do this or am i the only one who cant do basic math

I’m trying to understand WebRTC services for a video chat project, what should a beginner know?

Hi everyone,

I’m still learning programming and web development, and I’m working on a small project idea.I want to build a simple app where people can:

-make video calls

-talk with audio

-share their screen

At first it’s just a learning project, but I would like it to eventually support a few thousand users (around 5k).

I started reading about WebRTC, but I got a bit confused about how it actually works in real apps. From what I understand, there are two ways to build this:

- Use a WebRTC service/platform

- Try to build it yourself using browser APIs

I looked at a few services , but I don’t really understand:

-why people choose them

--how expensive they are in practice

what problems they solve compared to doing it yourself

I also saw that browsers already have features for video and screen sharing, so I’m wondering how far you can go without using a service.

My main questions are:

-Is it realistic for a beginner to build something like this without a paid service?

-What exactly do WebRTC services do that makes them necessary for real apps?

-If you were learning, what would you focus on first to understand this properly?

I’m not trying to pick the best tool yet I’m mostly trying to understand how this works in real life and what I’m missing as a beginner.

Thanks for any help or explanations.

my tinnitus started after a car accident and doctors keep saying its anxiety

okay this is gonna be a bit of a vent but also genuinely looking for similar experiences.

got side swiped in december. my head hit the window. not hard enough to break it or anything but definitely a jolt. i felt fine the first few days, then the dizziness started, then the ringing. the ringing has been constant in both ears since about a week after the crash.

the problem is doctors keep telling me its anxiety. like yeah i am anxious - theres a high pitched noise in my head 24/7. but i wasnt anxious before the accident. the anxiety came AFTER the ringing started.

my GP even suggested antidepressants for the perceived tinnitus which i thought was ridiculous. i can literally hear it. its not imagined.

what actually helped me advocate for myself was taking a concussion test on my own just to figure out what was happening. it asked a bunch of questions about symptoms i hadnt even connected - things like light sensitivity, trouble reading, dizziness when moving my head too fast. turns out i had way more post-concussion symptoms than i realized. i printed it out and brought it to my doctor and she finally took me more seriously.

ended up getting referred to a concussion specialist who said my tinnitus is likely related to neck and jaw tension from the crash. apparently its super common but regular doctors dont always connect the dots.

im still dealing with the ringing but at least i feel like im not crazy anymore. anyone else have doctors dismiss their tinnitus as just anxiety? how did you get them to actually listen? also how long did it take for your symptoms to improve? i need to know there's hope.

anyone else's team just refusing to learn new phone systems?

we switched our phone system a few months ago and I'm about to lose my mind. not

we had this ancient setup before that was falling apart. calls dropping, static on the line, customers complaining every single day. I convinced management to let us switch to something newer.

but my god the amount of times Ive had to explain no, you don't need to press 9 to get an outside line anymore is just I cant it's been 3 months.

and then there's the logins. I can't find my password I forgot my extension people, it's your extension you chose it.

the new system has this AI thing for handling after-hours calls and honestly it's been pretty useful. we get way fewer angry voicemails in the morning. but try telling that to Kevin from accounting who keeps forwarding calls to the wrong department because he refuses to look at the screen.

is this just how it goes? does every change turn into this whole thing or is my team particularly stubborn. I feel like I'm spending more time troubleshooting human problems than technical ones.

thinking about taking a capcut course to improve my tiktok content

i’ve been posting on tiktok for a while but my views and engagement are still pretty low even though i feel like the ideas are decent. my goal is to get better at editing so i can create stronger hooks, better pacing and cleaner videos that actually keep people watching.

i plan to learn capcut properly and found an online course. has anyone here done a similar editing course and was it actually worth it? did it help you improve your content and grow faster?

curious about touchless car washes after hearing good things

i have been looking for a gentle way to wash my car without risking scratches from brushes. i found one called flamingo that seems popular and it is a touchless car wash london on wonderland road. it uses polymer soaps and has underbody spray plus a reverse osmosis rinse.

how effective are touchless systems at actually removing heavy road dirt and salt compared to regular washes? is the rust protector coating worth adding on or is it mostly marketing? what should i expect from the first few uses on a new car?

The depressing office mystery

A tenant once complained their office felt depressing. That was not the maintenance ticket I expected

I'm a property manager. Nothing was broken and just gloomy. My first thought was how do I fix a mood? Maybe it’s their problem because their jobs are boring… But I stopped by to look

The windows are so dirty it was like a gray filter over the whole building. The grime built up so gradually that no one had noticed. The tenant joked that Nashville must have turned cloudier

So I knew we needed window washing. But honestly? I have no idea who to call... There are dozens of companies out there, and every website looks the same. I don't know who's reliable or fair-priced

anyone else struggle to find work flats that don't destroy your feet by noon

i love the look of ballet flats for the office but my feet hate them. ive tried so many brands over the years. expensive ones from designer brands, cheap ones from target, everything in between. by 2pm my arches are screaming and my heels feel like they've been sandpapered.

i have a desk job so it's not like im walking miles. just commuting to the train and sitting but something about flats just kills me. maybe it's the lack of support? i've tried adding insoles but then they don't fit right.

any recs for office flats that dont feel like medieval torture devices?

I love dancing, but I still overthink the part where you actually ask someone to dance.

Especially when it’s someone I don’t know… or even someone of the same sex. I don’t want it to come off weird or like I have some other intention. I just want to dance.

What’s been working a bit for me:

  • keeping it super casual: “hey, wanna dance?”
  • smiling + eye contact first so it doesn’t feel random
  • not making it a big deal if they say no (this helped a lot tbh)

I’ve also noticed that good dancers don’t hesitate much. They ask, move on, ask someone else. No pressure, no awkward energy.

Still, sometimes I hesitate and just stand there thinking too much haha

How do you usually invite someone to dance, especially strangers?
And do you approach people of your own sex differently or not really?
