ECE 22.06 vs SNELL M2025D

Okay... I'm familiar with the two certifications and what they mean. However I am seeing and hearing a LOT of conflicting information on how they compare to each other. I'm looking at getting into riding (just a cruiser for around town and short out-of-town day trips) and recently bought a HJC i11 at the recommendation of the store employee because it was DOT + SNELL M2025D rated.

I asked how it compared to helmets with the ECE 22.06 rating, and he said it was just simply better due to the snell rating. However I'm seeing online that SNELL is not automatically better than ECE, and that if the purpose for my helmet is for cruising/around town type/short touring trips type of riding, that ECE is better suited for me.

So was the employee right? Or is some of what I'm reading online right? And if the latter is the case, am I better off returning a DOT+SNELL M2025D helmet for a DOT+ECE 22.06 helmet?

White vs black helmets

Looking at getting into riding. Just picked up my first helmet; and HJC i11 in matte black, and I love it. However I live in Florida, and it’s hot as bawls here. Considering trading it in to get a white one with the hope that maybe it’ll not get as hot as a matte black one. Anyone have any personal experience comparing the two and noticing one staying cooler or not?

Apartment A/C issues

I live in Florida, so anyone that lives here knows it's hot. This summer seems to be particularly hot. I live in an apartment with central A/C, and I'm going on my third year living here. Never had an issue with my A/C keeping my apartment cool during the summer (usually keep it around 73º). This year I've noticed it struggling quite a bit. During the day it's usually only able to keep my apartment around 78º. I had maintenance come out and look at it, said everything looked fine and it was just simply struggling to keep up with the heat. Nothing they could do.

Well I got a digital thermometer to keep track of the temperature and humidity changes throughout the day. The trend seems to be during the day, while set at 73º, my apartment on average is reaching about 78º. But with this, I have also found that the humidity in my apartment is reaching ~75% during the hottest parts of the days, and going no lower than about ~65% at night when it cools back down. Within the last week I have also started noticing a musty smell during the daytime.

For more context, I also took a look at the A/C unit, and I found it dated from September 1999, which funny enough, was right around the time these were built. So it would seem this A/C unit is creeping up on 30 years old.

So I guess my question is, given these temperatures and humidity, isn't there a valid concern for issues like mold growth? From a legal perspective, do they have an obligation to do something like a major repair or replacement if I'm starting to have these issues? It's my first time apartment living and I'm not really sure how much of a "thing" I should make this issue.

Helmet from the shelf…

Just bought my first helmet today. Tried on a few and found one that I liked. I decided to purchase it, and they gave me the one that they had on display… no box or anything.

I will say it still appears to be new, and has the stickers and everything on it. The place I bought it from also was having their grand opening today after moving to a new location, so completely possible too it is in fact a brand new helmet that was put out… but just seemed weird. Is this normal?

Wide-sized boots/shoes

I (28M/USA) wear a 10.5 wide in most shoes. Does anyone have any suggestions for casual looking/comfortable shoes or boots that come in wide sizes? Bonus points if they are made for hot weather.

Help with muscle pain/tightness

I'm trying to get into running through the C25K app. Overall I feel fine, although I am struggling to get halfway through day one due to a really intense muscle pain/tightness. It almost feels like a shin splint (maybe that is what this is?), but it is coming from what feels like a muscle that runs right alongside my shin. I'm 99% certain it is the tibialis anterior. But the pain gets so bad I almost can't walk when it starts.

So I guess this is a multi-part question, that nobody might be able to fully answer... But could this be caused by an issue my running technique? Do I just need to stretch it more? Do I need to do some kind of strength training for it? Any possible suggestions or insight would be incredibly helpful.

Starter helmet

Looking at getting into motorcycle riding, and am at the point I want to start buying gear. I'm trying to find a decent first helmet that won't completely break the bank, but not sacrificing too much on safety. Pretty overwhelmed with all the options and trying to decipher between true safety and bells and whistles.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Bell Lithium MIPS. Just curious to get feedback/opinions on that, or other recommendations for good helmets in that general price range.

Recommendations for portable A/C

Context: I live Florida. I work nights, therefore I sleep during the day... which are hot as fuck. Central A/C has been struggling to keep my apartment cool during the day, and as a result has really jacked up my utility bills. Looking to keep my central A/C at a higher temperature during the day, and a portable A/C to keep my room cool while I sleep. I currently have a single-hose portable A/C, however it's reaching the end of its life.

My room: I live in a first-floor apartment. My bedroom is approximately 250sqft, with vaulted a ceiling that gets as high as 11ft. It has a single window that looks out onto a recessed/inset screened porch.

What I'm looking for: portable A/C unit, as I cannot install a window unit in my apartment. I'm not worried about the noise, as I use it to help blockout the outside noise. Over everything else, I would like it to be from a reputable brand, and something that is known to be reliable.

Features (in order of importance to me): Dual hose, energy efficient, cooling + dehumidifying ability (evaporative preferred), smart app/wifi enabled

In my research so far, it seems like the Whynter ARC-1030WM would fit the bill for what I'm looking for pretty perfectly. Just wanted to put this out there to see if there were any other recommendations or suggestions for my situation.

Dorsiflexion weights

I’m wanting to get into running more, and working through some foot/leg problems to get there. One of the things that was recommended to me from my podiatrist was doing dorsiflexion exercises. They recommended just putting a bunch of books on my feet, however I don’t have enough books that are heavy and small enough to do this with.

Any recommendations for weights or tools or whatever that I could buy for this type of exercise?

Worth it to get a countertop gas burner?

I just got my first cast iron pan and am loving it so far. However the stove I have in my apartment is from the early 2000's. It is the electric elements that turn on and off to maintain the heat. I can find sometimes not having a steady heat source to the pan can make cooking a little difficult.

Have any of you bought any kind of countertop propane/butane burners specifically for cooking with cast iron? Is it worth it?

Tracking savings and checkings accounts

So I want to keep both my checking and savings accounts on one plan. However, I do not want my savings account to count towards the "ready to assign" money. Really I don't want it to show up on anything for the plan, I just want to keep it in there for the ease of tracking money transferred in/out of it.

Only recommendation I've seen so far is to create the savings as it's own category, and assign all the money in my savings account, to the savings account category. That way it doesn't show up as money towards anything else.

I'm not opposed to doing it this way, but I'm just curious to see if anyone else had a different idea/suggestion, or what how you personally track the two.

Pay off the loan or keep my savings?

I have about $18,500 in my savings. I currently have a personal loan that has about $12,000 left at a 9.29% APR. I really don't want to take that much money out of my savings to pay off the loan, as it doesn't leave me with much left. However it would save me money on interest in the long run, and then I could just start putting that same amount of money back into my account.

I'm torn on which way I should go, and looking for any suggestions or advice.

Advice for someone wanting to join

I (28M in Florida) am looking at possibly going into patrol.

This is a bit of a personal question, so if you'd rather DM me than commenting that's fine. I'm looking for anyone who suffers from IBS, or something similar, and how you handle it while also working on the road.

Handling of medical conditions

Hey there. I'm looking for anyone who works in the industry, that also has to take of certain medical conditions (looking particularly at diabetes and sleep apnea).

I'm interested in getting started in the industry, and unfortunately have to deal with both of these. Fortunately they are both well under control/maintained, and looking at ENG1 disqualifications I don't believe either would be an issue. That being said, I'm still curious about what difficulties these (or other medical conditions) may have caused you. Anything from insurance, paying for and getting medications, life on board/while working, maintaining them in the very beginning when starting to look for a job and you had to stay at some place like a crew house, and even if it ended up causing any issues finding a job.

Thank you in advance for any help you're able to give.

If not comfortable talking about it on here, please feel free as well to reach out to me in my DM's.

No feedback from professor?

I'm taking a comprehensive writing/English compilation course. The whole semester has been focused around writing research papers, finding sources, etc. I am in the last week of the class, have already numerous assignments and multiple papers/essays. I have not gotten almost any grades or feedback on anything, and our final paper is due on Wednesday. One paper I got graded I got an 80/100 on, but nowhere was it documented why that many points were taken off.

Is this pretty typical or normal in college?

Clothing recommendations for big&tall-ish

I need help finding some decent brands that look decent on me, but that I also won't break the bank on. I feel like I sit weirdly between sizes, particularly with t-shirts. When I get regular sizes, sometimes they are too short or too tight on me. If I go with big and/or tall sizes, sometimes they are way too baggy, or are too long and almost look like a dress.

I haven't updated my wardrobe in years, as I have spent a lot of time working and have a specific uniform to wear for that. As a result, I feel kind of lost as far as where to start.

Context: I am 6'2", 235lbs, have a lil bit of a stomach. 40/32 pant size. Generally wearing somewhere between a XL - XXL shirt, depending on the brand. I'm in the U.S.

If any other information is needed to help give more accurate recommendations, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for any help you're able to provide!
