2021 Cayenne E-Hybrid

I have commented on a few posts but I'll make my own. I'm looking to buy a 2021 E-Hybrid. I am in love with the car. I test drove a 2022 at my local dealership but the low MPG (coming from a Nissan rogue lol) was a big turn off. The salesman asked about my driving habits but given my upcoming career change, I dont want to forgo the perfect car for me now. im happy to sell the car in a year if my situation changes. I would have to fly to look at and buy this car.

Am I crazy? I have this feeling it will be perfect but like.... i don’t know. this is my dream car.

I dont even want to link it on the off chance someone goes in before I can get there and buys it 😭 I test drove the 2022 and not even 24 hours later someone bought it. im happy to DM you the link if you won't buy it and can give good insight lol

Charles Barker Dealership

They have a car I’ve been wanting for a while. Any local info on the place? Searched the sub and didn’t see anything. Google reviews look good enough.

Dont want to drive 3 hours and then find out it’s a shady company.

Convince me (or not!)- 2023 Velar R-Dynamic S

I went into my local Range Rover dealership to test drive a 2021 black evoque and came out loving a 2023 Byron Blue Velar. I currently own a 2021 Nissan Rogue and the price ($37k) after my trade in is a much bigger number than i was expecting since i was looking at the evoque. I have a few questions….

  1. The sales associate was telling me about how they’re not selling certain models due to a DC issue. They said once they get the parts and can repair them they will be available for sale. I’ve looked at the recall online. Is this something big to worry about? Does anyone know a timeline? The sales associate said they were supposed to get the parts by early June and they did not.
  2. I may be moving to somewhere without a local Land Rover dealership. If this was you, would you still buy a Range Rover? I would live within 1-2 hours of one (aka a big city) so i could just drive it in but that could be problematic if they are issue prone.
  3. Is there anything else i should know? I’m nervous since this would be my first luxury vehicle but i really like it. It’s just a lot more money than I’ve ever spent on a car.

Nails & Interviews

Has anyone had an interview committee, or been on an interview committee and had a colleague make comments about an applicants nails? I (STEM, PhD Candidate) have an adjunct interview today. I don’t think my nails are gaudy or too long (they are grown out but whatever) but I’m also very feminine. I’d rather learn my mistake now before i go on the job market this fall.

I think I’m in my head because this is my first interview and I’m nervous.

2021 damage estimate costs

Some dipshit hit my car in a parking lot and caused this much damage. Any idea on how much it may cost? This is the THIRD time someone has hit the back of car where I’ve not been in the car. This car is so fuckin cursed.

I’m just curious if any of you have an idea how much this may cost so i can get an idea. Their insurance is taking a while. I’m at the point where I’d be happy to just take the check, depending on how much it’ll cost, and trade the car in somewhere and get something new. It has 67k miles on it.

I can’t add the video but the sensor on the back fucking moves inward and it obviously should not.

WPB, FL Best Coaches?

I’m traveling to west palm for vacay in mid July and would love to know the best instructors. I usually do signature, advanced50/65, or focus50 as long as there’s no fuck ass obliques. I prefer rap or edm music, no Taylor swift.

Also any tips on parking or things to know about would be good!! And if you have nearby coffee shop recs that would be sick. Thank you 🙂‍↕️

Interview at CC for Adjunct - help!

hello. I am already nervous and it's in a week. it's a 1 hour interview with a 10 minute teaching demo. I have instructor of record teaching experience and plenty of informal learning teaching experience but I am still very nervous. I'm a final year phd candidate. my goal of this position is to gain teaching experience that I haven't before, as I have never taught at a CC.

field: computing

questions:

  • are there any key components I should include in the teaching demo? they put in the topic selection that it should "engage learners" and have a check for understanding, but are there any other things that are expected but not being explicitly said? I was thinking 30 second introduction of myself and topic, 2-3 minutes of lecture, 2-3 minute activity, 1-2 minute for check for understanding (should this be a quiz? out loud questions?)
  • I will be wearing business professional. I plan to bring a tote bag with me that includes my laptop, personal hygiene things, etc. Is there anything else I should include? Business cards are so not me but I'll go print some if deemed necessary.
  • what should I expect for the remainder of the interview (50 minutes)?

any and all advice is appreciated.

List of Universities limiting Tenure / Academic Freedom / Etc

Hi all,

Are there any comprehensive websites or lists of universities that are limiting what can be taught? Or universities / US States that are thinking of removing tenure?

I know of AAUPs censure list but I thought there were more recent things like in Texas and Oklahoma. Apologies if I am misremembering.

I will be on the job market this upcoming cycle and want to make informed decisions on my applications.

27F - red swollen eyes + sinus issue

Medications: cefdinir (for sinus infection), Sudafed, Benadryl, tacrolimus

About 2 weeks ago i was diagnosed with contact dermatitis on both of my eyes. We are not sure what caused it. I was given topical tacrolimus and cortisone cream to apply to my eyes and within 36 hours it was mostly gone.

Now i am sick with a sinus infection and taking cefdinir from my allergist. However my swollen eyes have returned and worse than before. They now feel heavy. It’s not affecting my vision. I am scared that it’s something more than a sinus infection and I’m having an allergic reaction and i don’t know if i need to go to the ER. Im not allergic to anything besides ragweed and i dont have an epipen.

Immunologist recommendations

Does anyone have recommendations for an immunologist?

I moved away from Louisville (my hometown) and now work somewhere else. My local immunologist is booking out until November and their reception was incredibly unhelpful. I literally cannot wait until November as I’m dealing with a chronic issue that my current allergist has not been able to figure out and my flare ups are getting worse.

Liz Jacket Info?

Does anyone know where this jacket is from? Or if you know of dupes if it’s insanely expensive? It’s one of the few business professional pieces I’ve ever seen that’s actually unique and cute. The red piping and contrast of the white is so cute.

REU student not understanding professionalism

This is my first summer mentoring an REU student and, despite it only being day 3, I am nervous that the student does not have a clear understanding of professionalism in academia (despite its lax nature).

Today they showed up in deliberately destroyed sweatpants and a camisole. The first day of the REU they showed up in sweatpants. They lack an understanding of how to add salutations and send an email overall (which I’ve seen in here is common). They don’t seem to keep track of time and were late for a meeting with me today.

The student has asked about stipend payment and that they brought few clothes here with them. I am worried that this is a financial thing for the clothes portion. I’ve already let them know about our university’s career closet but those items would be much too formal for an REU.

I don’t need Finance level stuffiness, i don’t want that. We are in engineering for goodness sake. But if this student persists to do this i don’t think they will be taken seriously by peers and may have a difficult time transitioning to a more formal workplace, as their goal is an industry that does value formality.

I plan to lead sessions with all of my (6) REUs around things like networking, resume improvement, utilizing resources, etc but i can only do so many a week. I plan to find them a mentor who is similar to them as well (demographic, undergraduate university similarity) so they can build a network. Still the topics i mention feel so sensitive and i don’t wane to offend.

I care about this student, they are kind, have a great personality, and seem very bright. They show interest in my research and a willingness to learn. Unfortunately I’m at a loss at how to politely hint that what they’re doing isn’t good and that if it persists throughout the summer it may not leave the impression on others that they want.

Edit to add: this is the students first internship like experience so i understand why this may be happening. But i don’t know what to do.

Edit 2: i guess i should add additional context about the clothing. Yes, i would not wear sweatpants to work. Yes, i know students are more casual than ever. However, i view an internship or REU as a “test drive” for a career either in academia or industry. As i mentioned this student wants to work in an industry that is more formal. I think it’s disingenuous to think a student will change their behaviors the night before an internship in a new field or we should have them figure it out then.

Living in SB

What’s it like? I went to Purdue for 5 years. Now live in a larger metropolitan in the Southeast for school. I’ve been interested in applying to jobs in south bend but wasn’t sure if SB was boring or too “PG” since ND is religious. I’m non religious, like breweries, bars, shopping, and working out. Quickly checked zillow and everything looks fine. I visited Elkhart once and hated it. My in laws live an hour west which could be nice.

Sending flowers to Franciscan

I know someone in the hospital right now but there’s no info on how to send cards or flowers there. Is there a way to do that through Franciscan? Or should i just use a local florist?

I’m keeping the states vague because I’ve lived in multiple states and if my trust executor bank / team sees this i think my ass is grass. I’m in the US.

I am required to file yearly budgets for my trust. The budget is always higher than my actual costs because I’ve had people like parents or spouse to pay most of the bills. I just asked for a bill to be reimbursed (typical, I’m in a low paying career right now) and i got a suspicious email back about how accounting audited my account and wanted me to do the budget again and my numbers from the prior budget didn’t make sense. I don’t feel like the trust should take into account if my spouses pay bills. The trust would be paying these bills if i was single, as they did that before i was married. I’m curious if i would get in legal trouble for lying because the trust is meant to benefit me and i would just be paying the trust back…. To go where? I don’t know.

I’m currently at an all inclusive in Cancun. Are there any tips or tricks i should know? I don’t know… i feel i am well traveled for my age (27, been to Italy, South Africa, Iceland, French Polynesia, etc.) but i don’t feel like i know enough about Mexico or all inclusive culture to take advantage of all the benefits! We’re at an ok resort (Marriott all inclusive) and i don’t know what to expect, not expect, etc.

I’m also wondering if the concierge is actually good at booking and finding things or if they typically are mediocre at best like normal 3-4 star resorts in America. The only concierge i found worth their salt was at a St Regis and i know that’s not the average experience. I usually just search on Reddit or Facebook groups but both have been rather lackluster for what i want. I’ve been looking for just a boat day out that’s for 2 people on a 40+ ft yacht.

I’m on my flight to Cancun uhhhh right now. We’re here for my husbands birthday. What are some higher end activities to book? We’re staying at the Marriott Cancun All Inclusive which seems ok. I tried to find a boat charter but most required more passengers or was 2k USD. I’m looking to spend at most 600 USD pp for a boat trip and at most 300 USD pp for anything else.
