I mean, drillium is cool and all, but...

I have a few ebike battery locks that were damaged by break in attempts. I can find similar locks that might work, but I'm a high key tinkerer and pulled the lock core out. I would love to find a higher security option where I can buy more keys and cores for multiple batteries. Also would be great to avoid compatibility issues like rewiring an ignition switch that is part of the rest of the lock.

On the right side the little slot you can see is for a snap ring, and the little nub is like 5mm round with 4mm flats.

Is this at all a standardized thing that I might be able to buy somewhere, or no?

Found this battery at my local hacker space, and was amazed that the length and width fit so well!!! Tried to do some very gentle soldering. Yes, it probably would have been a better idea to hotglue a pogo pin battery connector in the case somehow, since there was space for it. The kindle wanted to charge it for a while before it decided that it wasn't empty.

It is in fact thicker than the original battery. I'm not sure yet if I'll just buy a case for it and/or cut a hole in the back plastic. The original battery was about as thick as a quarter, and it was glued on, I pretty much had to peel it off. And they're like 40$ to replace.

Onward to software modification!! Yes, it's a very old kindle. But you know what else is old? Books. It's remarkable the effort that Amazon has put forth to make e-ink devices like this obsolete. It's literally for reading text and nothing else. The fact that it even has wireless capabilities is excessive if you ask me.

The connectors fit up great. Controller is from Luna cycles. My understanding is that there is less custom/proprietary stuff going on with the bafang mid drive kits.

I think it's the real deal!
