Advice for starting gender HRT when youre scared of needles?

The main thing keeping me from asking my doctor about it is that I'm terrified of needles, which the blood tests would require. The 2nd thing is that having breasts would be extremely dysphoria-inducing, and be hard to hide around transphobic family. 3rd is that my family doctor is in a hyperconservative city

How come "ying" is sometimes pronounced like "yung" (e.g. diànyǐng, yīngyǚ) instead of "eeng"/"yeeng"?

Not sure if it's a regional difference or the pronunciation changing with the tone? I also never know when youre supposed to pronounce the soft y in front of yi/yin/ying. And sometimes it sounds like yih instead of yee/yeeng/eeng?

Just wanna know when is the right time to pronounce it that way, and how I can tell the time is right

Advice needed: I can only feel positive emotions when socializing, but get suicidally anhedonic when alone

I have to spend a lot of time alone because I can only afford to go to so many social events or to commute to my friends (who are often busy). It seems my antidepressants only work when im with friends. I've started volunteering so that im out of the house and near people most of every day of the week, but eventually I have to come home. I even started staying out of bed and deleting all other social media and giving myself easy access to my easy out of bed hobbies (games, movies, books, writing, biking).

I have to be alone eventually, might as well figure out how to not feel suicidally anhedonic during those times. Pls help. I cant seem to figure out how to phrase this concern in a way that my therapist can understand--she just keeps giving the same "just hang out more" advice.

[Wintersteel] Okay, I see why this is a fan favourite now.

The tournament was so nailbiting, and seeing Lindon's selflessly-motivated greed manifest as his consumption revelation was so satisfying. I guess greed isn't always a purely evil thing. His Unsouledness coming back as a part of his Void identity is so heartwarming.

Super excited to see how his three-madra path turns out now that it's becoming more cohesive, centralized around a theme. Also seeing himself through Sofara's mind was so awesome. Love the way WW uses perspective to hammer home a satisfying but slightly bittersweet beatdown

Also satisfying was finally seeing the Monarchs unleash their full strength. Heralds had been the highest combat level we've seen, but Monarchs are another level!! Hyped for if Lindon ever makes it to that endpoint promised by Eithan. I really appreciate how patient this series was with gradually expanding the scope of the on-planet plotline. And with thr Abidan finally directly intervening onto Cradle again to create new Abidan soldiers for the incomprehensibly massive war that's coming with the Vroshir.

Minxue is one of my absolute favourites. Her being a total sendup of the ice queen trope is so fun. It's nice seeing someone just be unabashedly themselves without hiding it.

The politicking with the Monarchs is one of my favourite parts as a political fantasy fan. It wasn't the whole focus, but was just important enough to be cool and really hammer home the stakes of the tournament. And how petty these must seem to the Abidan despite how massive it is. And theres still some mystery with the other Monarchs like the 8-man empire.

The climax in the tower is so classic. Boss rushes in a tower are always so hype, especially with Lindon basically being the anti-magic trope but with consumption and Blackflame. Lindon basically was just in a training arc, with Yerin's plotline as the A plot, which made it so hype after that slow burn. This truly feels like real progress, he's no longer an underdog that people look down on, he's now an actual threat that even Monarchs want to ally with and fear being enemies of. Makes me wanna reread Unsouled to see the absolute contrast from his underdog days to his current overdog era.

I miss Ruby :( she had so little time as her own person, but it's at least satisfying that shes still in there, becoming one with Yerin. Yerin becoming the first Overlord Herald is super cool too!! Continues the theme of Yerin being half a step ahead of Lindon.

The way Lindon didn't even wait for Sofara to finish before he slimed her the same way he did Akeri had me audibly go "DAMN!" Absolutely savage and ravenous. At least he thanked her for bringing him to his Icon

Really need to appreciate the way character writing is so interwoven into these awesome xianxia moments. People I know irl often talk about fantasy as the opposite to character-driven "real" literature, but they're not mutually exclusive!! Everything is motivated by an element of human emotion, and almost all the POV characters are sympathetic and comprehensible as people. And the Yerin x Lindon romance finally getting truly started is soooo cute :))) Huge inspiration for my own fantasy space opera.

The advancement stages being fluid, like with Sage not originally being a stage but a state(?) has me wondering if Lindon might ever create a new stage 🤔

The ticking time limit of the 2nd Dread War awakening was also so hype and anxiety inducing, super excited for Lindon to finally return home--though it makes me wonder what the last 3 books would even be about if he finishes his main goal in book 9? No spoilers but I have a feeling I won't be disappointed. I am so insanely hyped for the next book. And worried for Orthos and the Wei Shi family.

So glad this sub wanted to hear my thoughts, I am bursting but my friends dont get it. I do not regret buying a single one of these books.

Are barefoot shoes healthy even if you almost exclusively walk on concrete?

Been looking into foot-shaped toeboxes because i keep getting ingrown toenails and my feet always hurt when standing more than a few hours. Found this community and realized this might be something I want to try getting used to.

I have a low arch foot so have been using soft arch-support insoles with my tapered-toe wide toebox sneakers. Less pain in my souls and no more ingrown toenails.

Anyways, I was wondering if someone can explain how the thin soles of barefoot shoes could be safe walking on concrete? Since humans were adapted to walk barefoot on soil. I usually walk around 5K-11K steps a day

Edit: I was thinking of getting these Hobibear Maple shoes because i like all-black hightops/ankle boots. I currently use these Valesole insoles because i was told I need arch support for my low arch foot. Probably going to switch to no arch support padded insolesas a transition to part time then full time barefoot shoes.

My current setup has me with hip/lower back pain, plantar fasciis pain, and constant calf/shin soreness

This series is so addicting. I love how much the stakes expanded with the Abidan finally intervening into Cradle. The Monarch political interplay in the backdrop is very fascinating and super cool. It's cool seeing Lindon find lateral upgrades to his base mechanics of Blackflame, Pure, and Hunger madra.

I loooove the complicated dilemma Yerin feels about her bloodshadow, being disgusted by it but growing to rely on it. Everyone wants her to scorn it, including herself, but she starts to hate it less.

But I've been a bit annoyed by Lindon's greed. Him using the evacuation as an opportunity to make money for advancement, and totally focusing on nothing else. I really wish he followed Mercy's advice to find something unrelated to advancement/conbat/Sacred Arts that he could spend his free time on. I keep being worried about him burning out, and how whenever he advances, he's already focused on the next level! This isnt me criticizing the writing, because this is very in-character for him, whose formative years were spent being treated as worthless for his lack of advancement. Very good, but frustrating aaaugh.

Has me excited for the next book when he finally goes home. But also I have no clue what to look forward to for Lindon's plotline in this book besides him advancing again.
