The Blind Philosopher - Into the Redness of the Sun (FFO: Ulcerate, atmosludge, Panzerfaust)
theblindphilosopher.bandcamp.comPaleocore II - What do you think of this premise? Prehistory-themed playlist FFO The Ocean and Tiktaalika
youtube.comThe World Is Quiet Here - Ossuary (FFO: extremely low vocals, playful, waltzy, dark extreme-prog)
My favourite song on the album after the Heliacal Vessels
Ske - Insolubilia I (heavily-layered symphonic RPI I found)
skeskeskeskeske.bandcamp.comQuit SG1/2 were my favourite F2P FPS until the trump hat incident. Empulse brought me back
I followed Splitgate ever since FUNKe mentioned it in his movement shooters video, and was hyped for Splitgate 2 since the alpha. But 1047's bizarre decisions reached a breaking point with the "it's everyone else's fault but ours, but we can Make FPS Great Again" during a peak time of fascism down in the USA.
But playing Empulse and seeing how much the "full release will add sooo much more than the demo just wait" turned out to be untrue, made me realize just what i was missing.
The movement feels fast but still weighty instead of Empulse's floatyness. The BFG is a rare 4-charge weapon that instantly makes you a target, unlike the universal instakill hammer. The aesthetic is decently cool, being a utopian future pro-sports league. Races are back! Skins are still mid so there's nothing in-game to grind towards, but it's still pretty fun. Also it's free!!!
Even if 1047 never updates the game again, SGAR will be pretty fun for the foreseeable future. The various TDM modes, the objective modes, the portal-free mode, custom maps. Add decent variety and replayability.
Still want couch co-op though
Maebe - Brain Paint (FFO: Snooze, Benthos math rock)
youtu.beThank you Empulse for making me want to replay Titanfall 2
With this game being advertised as Titanfall 3, it reminded me how much I loved Titanfall 2's movement, level design, and how cool the mech segments felt as syncopated climaxes to the movement shooter bits.

Thinking of rebuying it on PC so I can play online. How difficult is the online PVP as a beginner? Is the player base still good enough to queue quickly?
Scoparia - Fallen (FFO: Opethian prog death, Ubiquity, Wills Dissolve)
youtube.comKardashev - Edge of Forever (FFO: Dawn of Ouroboros, Caelestra, Amiensus, sad/passionate deathcore)
Adore this track and how the start totally blows away the calmness of the previous. The ending where the singer is panting in emotional exhaustion gets to me every time. The lyrics are so poetic too!!
Least monotone harsh vocals? Harsh vocals with melody? Is is it difficult to sing harsh with melody or is it stylistic?
Can't think of any other examples besides Gojira and Septicflesh at the moment but im sure there's more
Richard Henshall of Haken - Cocoon (still some of the freshest sounding prog metal)
youtu.beHow to stop feeling like an invader/appropriator/poser in Chinese spaces?
I've started learning standard Mandarin as a Heritage learner because my parents never had the chance to be raised chinese (language, culture etc) besides the food. Im always the only person who doesnt look chinese in every chinese space (most people think im white+black by my appearance--frequently get "YOU'RE CHINESE?? I couldnt tell"), it makes me feel like im an invading a safe space or faking it like a costume. Or worst of all, like im a fetishist trying hunt down prey (ive heard this accusation against white guys). Even my ex (who was a 2nd gen chinese immigrant) basically refused to acknowledge i was chinese, often saying things like "you can't do that if you're not chinese"

Does this ever stop? Any advice? I dont wanna come off like a disrespectful sinoboo for the rest of my life
[Art] [Comm] What's the best way to celebrate after a mission?
I recently illustrated this tiefling adventuring party sharing stories around a campfire after a successful quest.
One is an illusionist who never stops talking. Another hunts monsters for coin. One is rumored to be the Devil's bride. There's also a noblewoman, a bat-eared troublemaker, and a tattooed devil who offers power in exchange for souls.
Honestly, drawing parties like this is one of my favorite things about D&D.
Which character would your adventurer sit next to by the fire?
For anyone curious:
Acuity: illusionist
Aria: Devil's bride
Mara: knight mercenary
Vigil: noblewoman
Ripley: troublemaker
Mistidae: contract devil
Theory: Mac isn't Gay
I don't know if this is a common fan theory or not, but I'll present my case. TL;DR at bottom
Ever since the first season, Mac has been a sort of attempted playboy second only to Dennis and Frank. He and Dennis go on the same escapades to pick up chicks (Charlie gets Crippled), swoops in on easy hookups (DENNIS System with the Move in After Completion; Ponderosa Wedding Massacre; Charlie Rules the World with fat/ugly/sick girls), has sex with a lot of women (Carmen, the McPoyle sister on multiple occasions including the Halloween party, Barbara, The Waitress). Among other examples. Even by the midpoint of the show where Mac is suspected of being attracted to Dennis/Charlie (Mac's Banging the Waitress, The Gang Dines Out when he molests the male waiter), he's also trying to get with women.
My theory is that he isn't homosexual, but a misogynist bisexual. He just gradually becomes more and more misogynist because of his "women issues" (Wolf Cola, Public Relations Nightmare), as it's shown that the longer the Gang goes without external help, the worse people and more stunted they become (Gang Gets Analysed). Up until The Gang Goes to Hell part 1 (and Hero or Hate Crime where he finally comes out for good), he's just in extreme denial that not only is he sexually attracted to women despite hating them, but mainly attracted to men (physically and romantically). Also the homophobic father and conservative Catholic upbringing definitely got in the way of accepting his attraction to men (Mac Fights Gay Marriage, Mac Finds His Pride).
So how does Carmen fit into this? The show is pretty explicit by her second appearance that she's a woman, and that Mac sees her as one. But maybe him being also into men and dicks made him more open to the idea of sleeping with Carmen despite his homophobia and aversion towards dicks. If Mac was just gay and into masculine bearded hunks like he claims in later seasons, Carmen wouldn't be his type. But he's also been shown to be into feminine women like Barbara and the Waitress (and Carmen).
By the FXX seasons of the show, Mac is fully immersed in his Gay/Catholic/"Badass" identity (a lot of people dont even know being bisexual is an option, which causes further confusion) to the point of being annoying as shit about it as he always is with his identity/pride. So bisexuality wouldn't fit into his rigid perception of himself.
TL;DR: Mac isn't gay (homosexual), he's a bisexual with "women issues" who hates women.
Anything like Witch from Mercury? (Character-driven, business politics, intersection of economics and geopolitics, multiple understandable factions)
Manga, donghua, and novel recommendations are cool too
Really enjoyed how WfM's plot was two parts focused around the relationship between Suletta, her fiancée, and her mom; one part focused on the corporatocratic Benerit Group arming Earth conflicts to keep them in a forever war so they never rebel against their Spacian exploiters. The squabbling and corporate espionage between the three main companies reminded me of Succession, it was very cool. And the geopolitics of the war on Earth and how theyre rising up against Spacians via terrorist attacks. Some awesome plot twists and surprises too.
I just really like when the material conditions of a setting actually matter in the politics. Log Horizon seems to have been about this from what I've watched, but it being a video game has made me get through the show really slowly
"I can't wear them on concrete yet" "then they're useless"
Haven't been able to stop thinking about this interaction. Barefoot shoes with shock-absorbing insoles seemed like such a great idea to strengthen against my constant joint, foot, and back pain. But I realized that I spend all my time walking on concrete (retail work, urban walking) except for short moments when I can walk on grass on my way home.
Did I waste my money?? They're very comfortable when standing or when in grass, but when I have to make the short 12 minute walk through the parking lot to work, my arch tendon stings (not exercise burn like my calves and ankles), even when I avoid heel striking (the way Ive walked all my life when without shoes).
My setup: Splay Impact insoles + Hobibear Maple. Should I have just gotten Altras??
Edit: started using them May 26. I walk ~30 minutes with them every other day, skipping days where I'm gonna be on my feet longer than 30 minutes straight. Sometimes I do balance exercises barefoot in the grass for 15 minutes.
