How do you manage to store clothes away?

My mother is a hoarder and I think to some level I am too (though I think I'm mostly just a cheapskate and like finding purpose in everything) but we have a HUGE clothing problem. Everything else is actually fine.

How can I organise them ? I couldn't ask this question on any other subreddit cuz they'd all just say throw it away / donate but she won't let me. She has a serious problem but she's suffered a lot in life and her shopaholic tendencies help her momentarily so I won't take those away from her too (Given I ALWAYS tell her she doesnt need new things or to throw away one old thing when she buys something new)

she has donated 2 dresses in the past few months and even that is huge for me.

sorry for the rant but i just want to know how can I organise / hide away the clutter the clothes cause. They're genuinely TOO MUCH. And worst of all, they're ALL in use.

How to solve the last layer? I've followed tutorials, read up guides and EVEN while following them I mess up a lot. Any alternative methods that are easier? (more below)

I've watched 2 tutorials THOROUGHLY and the first one WAS helping until it wasn't. The second one just didn't work and third was a guide that I really liked but even that I keep failing with.

My thing is, I understand the moves that I have to do but I don't understand the logic behind them and I wish tutorials talked more about that than just the robotic R⬆️U⬇️ etc.

I can do the first two layers just fine. Then I can get the corner pieces of the top(yellow) layer correct. But sometimes it's just 2 edge pieces that are in the wrong places and i go to the tutorials/guides to correct it, it just gets all scrambled again!

I know Niklas Sune moves but don't understand them.

and the one move that corrects the corner pieces in the correct way after they're in the correct position (this one was so easy to understand. logic and algorithm!) R⬇️ Bottom⬅️ R⬆️Bottom➡️

I dont know why but i just keep messing up at the yellow cross / edges. Getting the yellow corners is the easiest for me as of now.

is there an easier way to do this? maybe the layer by layer method isn't for me if there are other ones which I might understand better?

u/ronswansonsyoongi — 3 days ago

First time solving I'm so close please help out ! Which move to do next the tutorial is a bit confusing.

the tutorial video says to do a "Niklas" move and I did it but my corners still aren't matching.

LED bulb stopped working due to 2 electricity blackouts within a few minutes. Just wondering what's wrong with it?

I don't speak a word of electronics but opened the top of the blub to see if it had a broken piece or something, nothing, it just has this circut? and that white putty thing is falling out of it.

In the photo, on the thing, the tiny rectangle on the X1 have like 2 spikes coming out of it but the rectangle below it VR1 doesn't have those. (I thought maybe the spikes got off and thats why its not working but I didn't find the spikes anywhere!)

I checked if it was actually the blub that wasn't working or my socket but yeah its the bulb.

Info written on the bulb: 14W, 220-240Vac, 50Hz 6500K, 0.065A, PF0.9, 120LM, 90Lm/W, B22d, LB-B22-14WA EF08/24

I hope this is enough information. Oh and about the blackouts. 1st blackout the blub survived when the electricity came back but the second one it died and never came back. (there is no power generator/ inverter connected to those outlets)

I just want to know what's wrong with it and if its repairable or it just lived its life. Thank you for your time and patience!

Thread keeps getting VERY tight and kind of stuck in this part: no. 2 on diagram. Old Sewing machine

Ofc my first thought was that maybe it's just too tight but same kept happening even when I put the tension settings on loose!

I took apart the whole section of the tension settings, removed the rusting on it, oiled it and cleaned it nicely and put it up, still the same thing.

I dont know if I'm just doing something wrong with threading, the only thing I'm suspecting rn is the thread itself, I think its pretty old but it's durable enough that its not breaking when I try to break it. Its just in between those 2 disks I dont know what happens it just gets completely stuck there.

It works well for a while and then gets stuck like that again.

Total beginner and don't know much sewing lingo but I've no idea whats causing it.

What can I make this really old black denim shorts into?

As you can see it's a really old one and I've already cut the bottoms for another sewing project. I was wondering what I could make this into so as less as possible material would be wasted.

For the record I don't really wear jean shorts/jorts and none in my family does as well therefore I'm thinking of repurposing it.

I checked online and saw bags are popular to make from this I'm considering it and an apron. Though Idk how good a denim apron would be.

Any more ideas?!!

Edit : I made a utility/ tool vest from it ! No YT tutorials or any patterns just raw dogged my way through it and I'm using it while sewing !

How to fix this fraying seam?

This is a sleeve near the wrist that just opened from the seam when I was wearing the top outside. (I attached this sleeve extension myself. idk what they're called but bell bottoms for hands)

So I made a patch from this same fabric and that kept fraying at the edges too. So I did the lighter burn thing and that didn't stop it from fraying.

Do I have to just fold it and sew so it won't fray? or do I have use a serger?

(I don't own a serger so wtv options there are I'll have to hand stitch which is fine I like to hand stitch)

AIW for giving thoughtful handmade gifts to one cousin but not the other? (they're tweens)

I make handmade gifts for family members from time to time. They usually take a fair amount of time and effort, so I try to tailor them to the recipient's interests and personality.

I'm struggling with a situation involving two cousins.

Cousin A (13F) comes from a very wealthy family. Her parents place a lot of value on expensive brands, status, and having the "best" version of things. They also have a habit of openly criticizing or making negative comments about gifts people give them. They'll often do it in a joking tone, but the message is still pretty clear. For example, they'll comment that they already have a better version, a larger version, or a more expensive version of whatever was given to them.

Unfortunately, Cousin A seems to have picked up the same habits. When receiving gifts, she's made comments like, "I already have that," or "I just bought one that's bigger/better." She rarely seems excited or appreciative, even when someone has clearly put thought into the gift. The impression I get is that she values gifts based more on their price or status than the thought behind them.

Another factor is her mother. To be fair, I don't think this comes from a bad place. She's very tidy, dislikes clutter, and regularly gets rid of things she doesn't use. However, I've also personally seen her throw away or get rid of gifts from people without much hesitation. Because of that, I genuinely worry that if I spend hours making something by hand, it could end up discarded fairly quickly. That possibility makes me reluctant to invest a lot of time and effort into a handmade gift for that household.

Cousin B (12M) is the complete opposite. He's polite, grateful, and genuinely excited when someone thinks of him. I've seen him be happy over something as simple as a greeting card. I'm also closer to him because we share more interests and I know what he likes. Because of that, I have lots of ideas for handmade gifts that I know he would genuinely enjoy and keep.

The complication is that these cousins are children of two brothers who are very close and live near each other. Cousin A is often jealous if Cousin B receives something she doesn't. If gifts are different, she's likely to complain that people are treating them unfairly or favoring him. Her parents generally don't step in when this happens.

There's another complication. Cousin A has a younger sister who is still young enough that she hasn't developed the same attitude. She's usually sweet, appreciative, and genuinely happy to receive things. I would have no problem making gifts for her. However, she absolutely adores her older sister and looks up to her. I think she'd be upset if she received a thoughtful handmade gift while her older sister didn't, because she'd see it as her sister being left out.

So my dilemma is this: I want to make thoughtful handmade gifts for the people who genuinely appreciate them, but I also know that giving different gifts could create family drama, accusations of favoritism, and hurt feelings.

Would I be wrong for giving handmade gifts to the cousins who I know will appreciate them while giving Cousin A something much simpler, or not making her a handmade gift at all? Or am I obligated to put in the same level of effort for all of them to avoid treating them differently?

Sorry I didn't think it would get this long.

General ideas for old clothes?

We have BAGS of old clothes that can't be donated cuz the condition is pretty bad since they're EONS OLD so we've been using them as rags and I've been using some to scavenge parts from to use into my sewing projects (like zippers from old pants etc) But I want to know what other useful things we can use them for? Some are in better conditions to make pouches or pillowcases but we don't really need them at the moment therefore they're just being used for rags.

How can I reuse/ upcycle / upsew this lil guy ??

History of the fabric: It's cut up from a school uniform frock.

Condition of the fabric: Great ! it's pretty sturdy despite being medium/thin thickness. Only issue is on the right side if you can see, there's a circular line from where the school's patch used to be. You can still see the holes from the thread there's no way to hide this without doing visible mending or hiding it with a pocket (Just as far as my ideas go)

Question: What can I make this into?! I originally wanted to make it into a vest but I can't cuz its too small (its a proper sports bra size) cuz I have additional fabric thats same as this but Idk how good the vest would look if it has a sewn on bottom piece. The visible seams would bother me. I REALLY like it's neckline and don't really want to touch it.

A Bra? Make it into a dress? or should I just give up and use it as scraps?

How to make this skinny jean look good ?

I have the exact same pair and I thought of adding extra material onto the sides to make them into bell bottoms but I only have black jeans to do that with cuz I think we're supposed to match the weight/thickness of the jean to the new fabric and I dont think Black would go well with it.

(I'm too thin by stature and don't like attention drawn to it so although these may look good on someone as is, I don't think thats for me. )

Can I use a thinner fabric to go on the sides to make them into bell bottoms or are there any other ways to widen it ? I dont want to make it into a skirt. Oh also I don't know what material it is, It's very soft and stretchy so probably mixed with spandex somewhere.

HP Smart Tank 580 won't connect to new WiFi and I'm about to jump off a cliff.

I changed my WiFi and now my HP Smart Tank 580 refuses to connect to the new network.

I've spent HOURS on this.

Things I've tried:

Resetting the wireless settings over and over

Connecting it to my laptop with USB

Removing and re-adding it in HP Smart

Connecting to the DIRECT-xx-HP-wtv printer network

Adding it through the serial number

Following HP's instructions that just keep printing more pages (the info button thing)

The printer itself works. It prints info pages fine. WiFi is turned on. But it keeps saying it's not connected to a network.

I can connect my phone to the printer's DIRECT WiFi network, but then HP Smart is still useless. I managed to get into the printer's web page through the DIRECT network and it shows tabs like General, Wireless, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Advanced, but clicking Wireless basically does nothing. (not to mention THE WEBSITE IS UNSAFE AND NOT EVEN UPDATED)

My router uses one WiFi name for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz if that matters.

please help im about to cry. sorry if anything i wrote is confusing I'm so close to smashing it with a hammer or going to their office and causing a scene. I am not tech savvy but this is TOO MUCH.

Oh yeah I DID do that Cancel Button and Info button for 3 -5 seconds MULTIPLE TIMES AND IVE GOTTEN NOWHERE.

Ask me anything, PLEASE help out I'm actually going to cry.

How can I save this skirt while not having any excess fabric??

Pictures: 1st- How it looks from outside even tho it's kind of falling apart. 2nd - How the waistband looks like close up.

Fabric : It was an old SCHOOL UNIFORM FROCK which I took apart from the seams giving me now a crop top and this bottom piece i.e. a skirt.

It's actually pretty big on me because it was a bigger size bought back then and I never grew more And because its pleated.

I don't want to use the crop top fabric (though I probably can, depends on what you all advise me towards) because I'm planning on making a cute vest with it.

Reconstruction : I was wondering if I could cut the top of it (like in the picture) and then make a waist band with it?

I have no idea how to go about this and everything is making me scared and frustrated so I REALLLY need y'alls help.

It's actually really big, thats why I don't mind cutting up the top to make the skirt shorter. Its below my knees right now.

Alternatives to elastic bands for Skirts ? [ I HATE elastic bands I can't sew them ]

I REALLY like skirts but while sewing them (or even pants) I just hate it when it comes to sewing elastics onto them. I mess it up too many times and instead of wanting to improve on that, I'd rather just use an alternative method. PLUS THEY LOSE THE ELASTICITY AFTER A FEW YEARS.

I know the common methods are small ropes (?) in the place of elastic or buttons or zippers etc.

But I wanted to ask this subreddit to know what alternatives you have tried or think are actually good / durable than elastics.

Why do my drawings look so flat in comparison to these? [Outfit Sketches specifically]

First picture is mine, 2nd pic from pinterest credits to @toru_osushi on Twitter

I'm not drawing these to be perfect, its more like a fashion magazine / catalogue for myself to keep track of my own outfits / closet. But everytime I draw these I just feel a hint of terrible because they just don't turn out the way I want them to. I'm shooting high and wishfully thinking I could draw like an artist who draws everyday but still, is there a reason they just feel SO flat ? I want them to look like almost cartoons, Like Winx Club or any other girly cartoon from the 2000s. (and yes I do wear somewhat boring clothes so not much can be done fashion-style wise sorry lol)

Any tips? For the record no I do not draw often. Once every few years when I feel like it.

is drastic handwriting change considered as copy ?

This happened for JIGL paper. I wrote most of the paper normally in my normal handwriting but I had left 2nd question till the last (i had left the pages blank) and i wrote in a crazy different handwriting on those pages. So imagine first page normal, 2ND PAGE DIFFERENT HANDWRITING and 3rd page to end normal handwriting.

I keep worrying that they'll think I copied because of it. Is this a rule in ICSI or anywhere ? I wrote question numbers and everything else correctly. Has something like this happened before or am I the original dumb one?

Can I witchcraft myself out of depression ?

NOT ASKING FOR SPELLS / MENTAL HEALTH ADVICE ! JUST RESEARCHING FOR POSSIBILITIES !

I'm stuck in a loop of self sabotage and really want to break away from it. Worst of everything is that I'm self aware every single moment when I choose to do the wrong thing. Yes mental health issues are to be dealt by mental health professionals but I live in a country wherein I cannot trust such professionals. I have severe depression and am passively suicidal.

Since there are spells for everything, I wonder why not this? I've done protection spells and sigil work but I don't know if they've worked or not since I'm a beginner witch.

Witchcraft goes hand in hand with spirituality and it makes me think that I can't actually write a spell or meditate because I'm in such low vibrations. That somehow the results of it will suck because of my own mindset.

I'm just saying whatever at this point but yes, very naively I'm asking if its even possible / have you ever considered something like this ?
