Learning through prasátko peppa.

Has anyone made good improvements to their language/vocab through watching prasatko peppa? I have imported long videos into ling q so I can watch the videos while also pressing on any words I don’t know. Has anyone had success with this.

(Samozřejmě jsem začátečník)

Feeling less motivated after a lesson

Today I had another lesson with a teacher for my target language. I’ve been learning for about 2 months and making slow progress. Before the session I felt optimistic about my learning and that I can eventually end up learning the language. However today when I had a lesson everything felt really hard and I couldn’t really answer any of their questions. They explained a word to me in my previous session however I forgot what it has meant since this lesson. They also seemed really annoyed when I kept asking them what it meant. Now I feel less motivated after. Has anyone had this feeling? I have one lesson left in the package however I want to use this with a different teacher, is this possible? Thanks

Has anyone tried the Mooveez app? Has it helped?

I ask because it was developed at Charles university and seems like it has some interesting methods (e.g., muffling the sound of stories to imitate the way a baby listens in their mothers womb)

Losing motivation…

So I’ve been learning Czech daily now for about 7 weeks. I feel like I have made progress but now it’s started to slow down. I also feel like after being consistent for this long I should be better than I am right now. Any advice for this situation and any study tips?

I am able to introduce myself and have learnt basic greetings e.g., jmenuje je… je mi… let, dobry den, ahoj, čau, nazdar, těší mě etc.

I am also able to conjugate verbs including some in the past tense e.g., včera jsem pracoval, myslel jsem etc.

Recently I’ve been using some conditional phrases too like mohl bys, měl bys etc.

But because I’m doing this alone it feels like I’m stuck with no goal in sight, and also it’s hard to tell if I am at where I am supposed to be after this long. Any thoughts?

£550 quote for motherboard repair

So 1 year and 1 month ago I bought a hp envy x360 14 inch from curry’s for £900. I had no issues with it but a few days ago it shut off and smelt like smoke from the bottom when on charge. I took it back to curry’s who said it needs to be repaired. I paid £50 for the diagnosis and they took it. They called me today and said it would be £550 to fix. I asked if they can do anything because this is very expensive after only a year. They said they couldn’t help. What can I/should I do? Just sell it for very cheap and get another laptop? Thanks

How many lessons a week is too much?

I’m having around 4 lessons a week each an hour long at the moment. Is this worse for my long term retention than having fewer lessons?

Having lessons using phone

Currently my laptop is broken and won’t be fixed for a little while. Has anyone had experience of using a phone to join a lesson. How was it, is it okay?

Is it normal for teachers to send lesson requests?

I messaged a teacher who is new on the platform to discuss if we think he would be suitable. He gave me some information about what he could help with and I hadn’t replied yet. A few hours later he sent me a lesson invitation for a few days time without even asking me what my goals are, and even if I would be free on that day. Is this normal?

Is it normal to have multiple teachers?

I currently have 1-2 lessons a week with a professional teacher. I was thinking of also reaching out to a cheaper community tutor to have lessons once or twice a week for additional practice at a cheaper price. Would this be bad and would it offend my original teacher?

Reassurance, feedback, and advice from people who are at A2/B1..

Hi, I’m currently at A1 level. I was looking for advice or reassurance from people who was once in my position and was able to progress their Czech to A2/B1 level.

  1. what resources did you find most helpful when learning, and how did you break down your learning throughout a day/week?

  2. how long did it take you for things start to click and your levels start to improve

  3. do you have any advice for someone at A1 level - when you were learning did it feel like you were never going to improve?

Thanks

A1-A2…

Does anyone know how long it might take someone to get from A1 to A2 level?

I presume I’m A1 level as I can introduce myself, say my name, where I’m from, how old I’m from etc. I can say what i like and use the case system to change the noun (e.g., mam rad kávu). I can also count to 100+. I know how to ask questions and order food/drinks (e.g., dam si …). I can also conjugate most verbs e.g. , musím pracovat, pracuju, mluvím, mluvíš etc.

I am also have a small understanding of past tense (e.g., Byl jsem, byla, mluvil s… měl jsem, Šel jsem…)

Would this put me in A1 category, and how long (of 1 hour a day practice) would it take me to get to A2 do you think? Thanks
