Justin Verlander has made almost $30,000 for each batter he’s faced.

I was browsing JV’s baseball reference page and saw that he’s made $427,041,013 in his career which made me wonder how much he’s earned per batter faced. Verlander has faced 14626 batters in his career(which puts him at 73rd on the all time leader board), which is $29,197.39 per batter faced. This number will obviously decrease for each batter he faces this year if he is able to come back. It also goes down to $27,469.51 per batter when you add the 920 batters Verlander has faced in the postseason.

Some notes:

JV faced a career high in batters in 2009 while leading MLB with 982 while only earning $3,675,000 which figures out to a meager $3,742.36 per batter.

In contrast his most efficient earnings per batters faced was 2021 where he was paid $33,000,000 while facing 0 batters.

His counterpart Max Scherzer has him beat with $30,569.17 per batters faced.

Bartolo Colon is one spot ahead of JV, 72nd all time in batters faced, while only earning $8,002.73 per batter faced earning $117,280,000 for 14,655 batters faced.

After Joe was claimed off waivers by OKC in 2022, he refused the coach's ask to play a G-League scrimmage, saying "Respectfully, I'm not a G-League player." A week later OKC is down 16 in a game with 4 minutes left. Joe is put in, scores 15 pts in an OT win. Daigneault admits Joe was crazy but right

Total WAR By Primary TV Color Commentators

The second image lists the names I used. This wikipedia page was my reference for color commentators. Hopefully the list is up to date.

To make my life easier, I only included color commentators listed as primary. I suspect the list isn't perfect. For example, Jeff Brantley (11.3) is listed as the primary color commentator for the Reds. However, he only does TV for away games. Barry Larkin (70.5) calls home games. But I wasn't about to learn the nuances of each team's broadcasting teams. So we're at the mercy of the wiki page.

I used the career WAR numbers from Baseball Reference

The Mets leap ahead of everyone because, according to the wiki, they are the only team with two primary color commentators.

[Amick] All-NBA forward Jalen Duren was underwhelmed by the Detroit Pistons’ initial offer in restricted free agency and is planning to explore sign-and-trade scenarios when they are permitted on Tuesday, league sources told The Athletic.

> All-NBA forward Jalen Duren was underwhelmed by the Detroit Pistons’ initial offer in restricted free agency and is planning to explore sign-and-trade scenarios when they are permitted on Tuesday, league sources told The Athletic.

> League sources say the gap between the two sides is large enough that Duren is now considering ways to land elsewhere, with the sign-and-trade route deemed preferable to signing an offer sheet with another team that the Pistons could, and likely would, match. And with some of the game’s best players potentially available this summer, including the Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown and the LA Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, the question now becomes whether the Pistons might be willing to engage in those sorts of scenarios when that time comes.

> The Pistons, meanwhile, are known to be on the market for a significant roster upgrade this summer. League sources say they had serious interest in Austin Reaves before he re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, and they’ve also been tied to Brown, Leonard and Tyler Herro (who was traded from the Miami Heat to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal). Detroit has plenty of other in-house business to tend to as well, as 23-year-old, first-team All-Defense selection Ausar Thompson is eligible for an extension that could top out at five years and a combined $162 million.

Karim Lopez was doing an interview with a Pistons hat on, totally unaware that he had been traded to the Grizzlies. Cold business. 😬
