i believe you cannot control your thoughts but you can choose focus on a different thought and then your thoughts may change gradually. i find this really helpful as someone with anxiety and adhd.

let me know if you agree with me/ur thoughts

TLDR
now that i am 18 ive realized i can use my ability to get distracted very easily as an advantage. i have learned how to distract from my own immediate uncontrollable thoughts when i start spiraling.

if someone insults me or has a tone with me, my default is to get angry or start thinking they think im an idiot. if someone acts tired, i assume they don't want me around and that im exhausting them. if someone has a certain negative facial expression, i will immediately think im the cause of it. ive realized that at least right now, i cannot control my first or even second or third thoughts. but i can stop myself and go, "dude, lets be logical here. you don't know whats going on in their head, and you cannot control what people think about you. in the small chance that they don't like you, it's ok. YOU like you. you have other people who like you. you're smart. youre a pretty cool person. deep breaths girl, be proud of yourself for catching yourself in a negative thought this time even if its hard." (i think all of this in a span of like 10 seconds max)
the more you start thinking this way, the more you catch yourself before you start spiraling out of control, the easier it will become overtime. and you might start even thinking the healthier thoughts first as an immediate reaction.

when someone does or says something to you, you will immediately have a conscious or subconscious thought pop up in your head.
my brain moves so fast at all times. the minute something negative happens its so easy for my thoughts to start spiraling out of control.
i spent a couple of years doing cognitive behavioral therapy as a child when i developed depression from how exhausted i was from my constant perfectionism and anxiety. even though i think it helped me overall, i sometimes thought of those sessions as just another thing i was failing at. id think to myself, "why cant i control my thoughts? why aren't i improving, im such a burden, my mom is spending money on me so i can stop being anxious and i cant do it."
so, this doesnt mean you start judging yourself for your thoughts and being all like "don't think that. stop. what are you doing. is this helping you, dumbass?" just accept and be aware of where your mind immediately goes when something happens. self awareness is the first step.

what family of 4-5 car should i get? used (idc how used tbh), electric/gas hybrid, soundproof, spacious (3 rows or 2 rows with big trunk) has a 2 or 3 pronged outlet, practical and reliable and the cheapest i can get. no trucks and nothing too low to the ground.

idk anything about cars. i like driving hondas, i enjoyed driving a KIA soul but would never buy one cuz i've heard bad things, i HATED driving an old camaro, i love volvos but never driven one, i don't like when the pedal is too sensitive but honestly ill get over it if it's got everything else i want. idc how it looks. im also extremely short keep that in mind like i need to see but i dont want to be pressed up against the wheel

CHOOSE THE CLOSEST CAR TO WHAT YOU THINK IF IT'S NONE OF THE ABOVE, also i don't want to drive something too high off the ground or too low to the ground.

do you think trigger warnings on posts are necessary?

what i think as someone who USED to be very easily triggered:

i have mental health problems and ptsd and it used to be WAAAAAY worse than it is right now. sure, not everything on the internet has to be palatable for everyone, and honestly for me, NOT having trigger warnings made it easier overtime to be able to let really horrible things i read about or watch not bother me as much. but, i personally will continue to use TWs when i talk about really bad stuff because i dont want anyone to feel how i felt back then.

whats the worst bean: baked beans or black beans or pinto beans or soybean or chickpeas?

i keep seeing people say their fav is baked beans and im so confused as to how anyone could ever like baked beans better than literally anything else. i cant with the really mushy texture and the taste doesnt make up for it.

i have anxious attachment style, with someone whos mostly secure but leans avoidant ig? how did you guys fix it/howd you guys become more secure?

ive done a lot of work on myself but i still am a huge people pleaser and i still need a lot of validation.

compliments from my boyfriend make me feel really loved, and theres nothing wrong with that, but when i dont get them i get really in my head about it and think stuff to myself like "he's not saying these things cus he doesn't believe them" or "he doesn't tell me these things cus he doesn't care" either its cus he forgets, hes daydreaming, (he has adhd) hes lost in thought about our conversation, etc. random compliments that arent prompted by me asking such as
youre a great singer
youre a good listener
youre sweet
you have good music taste
your makeup looks good today
that color looks good on you
im thinking about you (then explain it)
you make me happy
i miss you (followed by what he misses about me)
youd be a great mom one day
you're great at comforting people
your eyes look so good rn
what you just said was smart/a good point

i can go on. but he almost never says this about me unprompted and ive had multiple serious conversations with him and i hung out with him today and nothing changed, granted we just saw a movie and hes tired. should i accept that this is not the way he expresses love? he loves me and he loves spending time with me and i do want to spend forever with him because this is the biggest thing affecting me right now and we've successfully worked through so many problems together.

ive told him to set alarms, ive told him to steal compliments ive told him already (his birthday present was basically diary entries that i did when we were falling in love, and he just didnt appreciate it as much as i wouldve because were so different in that way and his childhood has taught him that people lie and have alterior motives for being nice to him) ive told him to do many things and he said he'll do it but it didnt happen yesterday. im just a little confused. i feel like if he loved gift giving or acts of service or another love language id do it for him, but maybe only because im afraid to lose someone so great.

really odd side effect, anyone else?

tw throwing up

TLDR: yall ever feel theres something stuck in your throat and chest and you wanna throw up and then nothing comes out aside from spit because youre on an empty stomach?😭 and then the feeling gets better but then comes back almost full force? i assume not. anyone have any idea why this happened? should kids just not be on antidepressants especially if theyre really sensitive to meds like me and the side effects make the anxiety worse?

when i was in middle school (11-13, was on it until 15 but didnt take it very consistently for the last 2 years) i took zoloft and multiple times i got this horrible feeling that something was stuck in my throat or like a bunch of air was in my chest or something. it wasnt a throbbing pain, it was just like... i dont even know. i wasnt even nauseous. once, it was so bad i puked nothing. i cant remember if i made myself puke or what? but literally just throwing up spit. and then it eased the feeling but it slowly came back. it was really unpleasant. it would usually happen after i took it at night. the meds worked very well, my ocd got SO much better. i genuinely feel like i stopped having ocd in eighth grade. it stopped working for anxiety and depression when my life circumstances got a lot worse, cus meds aren't a cure all when your family life is crazy and youre dating a dude who breaks mirrors. this didnt happen to me a lot, but when it did it was so crap. my school nurse told me to report this as an adverse side effect.

this has legitimately not happened since then with any other medication except prozac but it wasnt the same sensation with prozac. and with prozac it happened when i just woke up and was anxious. and to this day i have no idea what this was other than to assume it was the meds. for a while i thought it was bad air quality or anxiety? but recently there were wildfires near me and i didnt have anything like this. anyone else?

libido question?

‼️ IF IT CHANGED BUT UR NOT SURE IF IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE LEXAPRO THEN SAY IT DIDNT CHANGE. cus depression causes low libido too and ssris can make certain people, with bipolar for example, worse.
‼️‼️‼️‼️ SLIGHTLY MEANS sliiiiightly. meaning, there will be a 3 times in a year where u have trouble getting it up for absolutely no reason when that never happened to you previously, but mostly youre fine. or, i dont have trouble nutting but i wanna do it with my partner a little less. or, im hornier but having the same issues reaching orgasm as i was before.

new to lexapro and asking questions that matter the most to me. i was on prozac and zoloft and they didnt seem to do anything in that aspect but i was on cymbalta and it decreased it so much it was annoying.

reply if youre in the like 1% thats intersex (lol doubt anyone is but thatd be cool) or if youre medically transitioned or something i didnt account for like birth control that could be affecting it too. hormones and the way they interact with meds can play a role.

weight gain question for yall.

***‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ONLY ANSWER IF YOUVE BEEN ON IT FOR 3 WEEKS AT LEAST, "NORMALLY" MEANS AVERAGE AND NOT USUALLY
when i say "stayed the same" i mean relatively, like very slight differences with normal slight weight fluctuations.
‼️if nothing applies then dont answer the poll or just click the one u think matches the most. wish i could put a bunch of options.
and also gaining weight normally includes not being sure if your metabolism is fast or slow. damnit i wish i could edit polls 😭

my metabolism has always been fast and i wanna know if things will change. i also have adhd and forget to eat.💀

should i retake science and/or social studies or should i not care

i was trying not to faint and having the most severe adhd of my life the day i took science and social studies. i started clicking random answers for social studies under halfway through because i could not read.🥴 im going into nursing at a community college and they will have me take the TEAS which is basically this but probably harder. on the practice test i got a 193 for science. i was gonna do pretty meh on social studies anyway. not my strong suit.😭should i not worry about it if its not gonna impact my life too much? or will it?

how to get my boyfriend to compliment me more ive asked him so many times

we both love physical touch/quality time but i am very big on words of affirmation. its how i give and receive love. i was missing it as a kid and now i need it.

i keep telling him please compliment me about anything when the thought comes in your head.
his reasoning for being bad at this is because he just forgets to. or maybe he just doesnt think anything nice about me ever.💀 (im being overly cynical)

i should specify to him that i dont want it to be about appearance. i know you think im hot (not even gonna believe him anyway) tell me im good at singing. tell me im smart. tell me im good at listening. tell me im talented. tell me my mannerisms are endearing. tell me that people like me and why. tell me im easy to talk to. anything. fucking anything. ill eat it up at this point because im getting fucking nothing. how doesnt he know how to do it??? i say this shit to him all the time. just borrow stuff i say to you.

like, please reassure me im not being annoying and that not everyone hates me. its truly annoying at this point because he's done it before, he cant just repeat the same damn script? idk why its so hard. hes a wonderful guy. hes smart. he should figure it out. am i being impatient at this point? weve been together for a year and a half. i told him to google it one time i was having a panic attack. how to look after an anxious self hating girlfriend. hes like "google gives bad advice" no it doesnt like please just try. all he could do was hug me. i had to fix it myself. which is fine, i can do that. should i just settle at this point and not expect that hes gonna get better at this? hes great at everything else.
