Normal: Simply Americanized Hot Fuzz remake.

From the big city cop finding himself in a small “family values” style town, to the sweet little shop owner trying to blow him away with a shotgun.

I’m not hating, there’s a million movies that do stuff similarly it’s just it popped out to me super quick. The one trend of the past ten years I DONT understand is the need to jam the goofy Oedenkirk down our throats as an action hero time and again. The whole “Nobody” movie vibe was quirky and unique-ish at the time. But with the sequel and then this flick, it’s like someone thought he fit a Neeson build, but that’s a big swing and miss. There’s a reason the popularity of each subsequent film dropped precipitously.

This movie is entertaining and I am ever supportive of keeping run times in the hour thirty realm. Some cheesy dialogue but it fits and the pseudo-Die Hard 2 winter storm feel plays well and probably was even better when this movie originally came out.

You’ll watch it once. You’ll say “OK”, then in 2 months you’ll forget about it and in 5 years as it makes the rounds on all the free streaming platforms you’ll be like “did I see this?”

The End of Oak Street: How did a movie this bad get hyped so hard?

I hesitated to tag it as “science fiction” since it insults the intelligence of any sci fi fan over the age of 14, but I guess it’s most fitting.

I just got home from watching it, so bear with me as the frustration is fresh. From the glaring paradoxical plot hole that is the ending of the film, to the fact that everyone had the survival instincts of wet farts, the short hour forty minute run time even felt like a grind.

The SUPER half baked subplots, like a gay daughter who likes astronomy (which NEVER actually comes into play) and a son who I was desperately hoping would die eventually with how fucking whiny he was, I eventually realized I didn’t care what happened to anyone.

Did anyone wonder how THAT many carnivores would be able to exist within such a small area? That would be like jumping into a random part of the ocean and coming across 2000 20 foot great whites by happenstance. Also, did we forget that the composition of the air during the time of dinosaurs was actually mostly poisonous to human life, yet not even a cough from anyone? How about the need for everyone to walk down the middle of streets and in almost no cover, all while screaming peoples names and making themselves the biggest targets they possibly could. Maybe the 100 foot Python thing that can go down stairs without even a whisper when I can’t walk down a modern staircase without waking an entire house with the creaks? Why the fuck did the basement flood?

I could go on and on, but I will finish with this one. What was the supposed “timing” of the portal they were trying to get. They stood there for 5 minutes watching it and then started counting as if they were trying to get through the furnaces on the Rock. Bitch, you don’t know if there’s a pattern, just fucking jump.

Terrible, terrible movie. If you must watch it, stream it when it’s a part of when of your existing services.

Someone dropped a tender in the frier and forgot about it…

What a lovely surprise to find when cleaning at end of service

The Dink

I like Josh and the movie was decently funny for what it was. That being said, it’s horeshit a basically pro tennis player would dominate at pickleball very quickly once they know the basic rules.

I was a college player and never picked up a racket before entering a small tourney with my company and won it relatively easily after a rules crash course.

Shark week is absolutely terrible now.

The content is repetitive not just literally but figuratively too. I used to just gobble it up but the shows are often just using the same content but repackaging slightly or not even really bothering to do that.

It used to be fun and interesting but at a certain point t there is not enough new stuff to warrant an entire week anymore, it’s just a cash grab. I’m in the industry and advertisers still pay a premium but the viewership has gone off a cliff.

A “Shark Sunday” or something makes far more sense now. At this point though it’s just taking up a week of other shows that are often better

G.I. Joe: Rose of Cobra

I think I watched this with a mix of nostalgia and ignorance back in the day. It was also pre-Marvel in full glory, so action still felt like it had to be dumb and cartoonish.

It’s also striking on my rewatch just how bad the CGI was. I feel like by 2009 it should not look that janky and fake. It’s hilarious how hard it pushed the visuals too, highlighting and focusing on them intently, which is horrifying with the TV resolution of 2026.

Spitballing but a Christopher Nolan version of GI Joe would be pretty fucking epic.

Anyone seen the “15 Minutes of Shame” doc? Talk about mixed messaging, what a mess.

It’s impossible to like and appreciate it. Primarily because it comes across as an effort to provide a platform for an apology tour for a lot of terrible people that are only sorry now that they were caught being terrible.

The VERY FIRST guy they highlight is the hand sanitizer guy. Who OF COURSE starts off saying he’s in the military. Who tf cares bro, that’s not a get out of jail free card for being an asshole. He was FULL of excuses, then sneaks in an “oh ya maybe some of my pricing was wrong” in the midst of all his poor me bullshit.

What’s frustrating is I agree with all the social media commentary. But when you’re trying to say we shouldn’t somehow call out trash for being trash is only a result of social media being terrible kills both points. There was minimal effort being put into finding truly sad and mistaken situations.

The only one is the Hispanic man with the white power symbol. Even that is iffy though, because he very clearly blew on by the “holes in his story” even SDGE pointed out. Also, guess what, there’s a LOT of misguided minorities that support groups like Proud Boys and other white nationalist ideological groups.

Skip it.

You’re given a handgun with one full magazine of 15 rounds and a million dollars in cash. You are able to be transported anywhere in time between 1800 to the year 2000 anywhere in the world for 24 hours. The goal is to make the absolute biggest change to history/the world from then until now.

You are competing against 100 other players and winner gets $1 billion dollars tax free. Last place is executed.

If in the process of your trip you are killed, you die for good so a suicide trip to kill someone is not a good idea. If you can survive for 24 hours though you’ll be automatically pulled from anywhere, like a jail cell and put back in place in the present.

If you purely try to invest the money for yourself or family you forfeit and are executed.

Edit: No killing of any minors allowed.

Most of us are familiar with the Zetan expansion to FO3. We know the laser simulates a nuclear attack. Is there any deep lore on this anywhere?

I can see the logic if they were trying to destabilize for an invasion. It could tie into the nebulous battle on the lunar surface mentioned in the Smithsonian.

You have provided some extremely valuable service to your country. As an out of box thanks, you’ve been given the next 6 hours to basically be above the law, with some rules.

First and foremost, you cannot purposefully kill someone. You can only if it is legitimately in self defense were they to attack you.

Second, no one except the high-ranking officials who provided the opportunity know about it and you cannot tell anyone or it nullifies the deal. If you get caught they will handle it, but until then you’re just a normal criminal (if you go that route). So, if you get caught and that burns up the whole 6 hours, your loss.

Third and last (unless I come up with something), if you steal you can keep it ONLY if you’ve been able to not get caught during the six hour window. So if you’re caught at 5 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds, you lose it all.

You are given no additional prep time and they start the clock on the next hour after they leave (we will assume it is during normal daily business hours of your location)

How do you maximize the opportunity and avoid losing any gains?

Secrets Declassified S2 Ep13

I don’t know what happened, but this most recent episode turned into the “let’s glaze the fuck out of super questionable shit that Israel has done”.

Especially including the VERY disputed last segment of that bullshit PowerPoint that Netanyahu gave supposedly identifying Iranian weapons development. On top of that earlier on highlighting and essentially celebrating Israel STEALING uranium to make their own weapons illegally.

I will pretend this episode doesn’t exist as I like the show normally, but do better History Channel, don’t just be another mouthpiece of Zionism.

I just rewatched “Annihilation” for the first time in 8 years. It’s so much worse than I remembered.

I remembered it as being a bit trippy and it felt smart. So I held onto that the past 8 years I suppose. I saw it was on MGM and recorded it for a lark.

Man, it’s just shallow and desperately WANTS to be smart. It’s nonsensical though to the core.

Oh, the lighthouse is within a few miles of the shimmer edge from sea? And you CAN approach from sea they said? Nah, let’s hike ON FOOT over dozens of miles. Bring any sort of a vehicle? Nah, we could use the exercise?

Bring some kind of security detail since it’s four scientists and a useless paramedic who almost immediately flips out (I hate her and still can’t fathom how this kind of a mission would include her)? Nah, one was in the Army like 20 years ago, just strap them up and they’ll be fine.

Oh, no one has come out except one person who then has massive organ failure. Let’s all walk right in without even a face mask, let alone a gas mask or protective gear of ANY kind.

Hey, here’s a swamp. Let’s all separate and wander around with minimal situational awareness, because you know, nothing dangerous lives in a swamp.

I could go on and on. It was frustrating because my flawed memory of the movie was that it was maybe just over complicating itself. No, it was just bad and tried to cover it up with “oooooo colors! Ooooo look over there at the flowers! Ooooo spooky rainforest!”

The end is halfway decent, it’s just the hour forty five slog of bleh to get there that doesn’t make it worthwhile.

Finally watched the first episode (I’ve watched all of For All Mankind)

It’s decent and would have been awesome if they released the seasons to coincide with the same timeframe season from FAMK. Having it now starting it back in the 60’s, it feels a bit derivative.

Hi all, primarily looking for turn based WW2 or like modern warfare games. Something with cool “result of move” animations, à la the old Combat Mission games which I loved. Any ideas?

I primarily play on console but do have a semi decent computer. Don’t like real time crazy management type stuff. More relaxed moving of pieces and strategy, but not purely a game board.

What will the ramifications be when the GOP inevitably does not lay a large chunk of their multimillion dollar bills for tv and digital ads? They have already burned through most of their reserves and there’s already reports of being at 60 and 90+ days.

With a Trump now as the head of the RNC, it’s unlikely they will pony up on most of their bills. They will only try to work with Sinclair since they went full MAGA.

Edit: Since I can’t adjust the main portion, obviously “pay” not “lay”.
