Are hybrids the sweetspot or too many compromises?

Currently driving a (non-plugin) hybrid - Renault Clio - hire car and finding it a lot nicer than a horrible Aygo hybrid I hired years ago. Has lots of oomph when needing to floor it (like an EV) and a huge range (like an ICE). The transition between the two modes is barely noticeable (compared to the Aygo which had a massive delay when the ICE took over) and generally very comfortable drive overall.

What's the catch? Is longterm reliability an issue?

We're in the market for a new to us car and am not 100% sure an EV is right for us within our price range 10-15k SH.

Posit Cloud Connect issues

I've recently migrated an existing shiny.io project to Posit Cloud Connect to pre-emptively asses the new system before shiny disappears.

It worked fine initially, but it seems any writes to a tiny sqlite db embedded in the shiny app are not being preserved whenever the server shuts down.

It worked perfectly fine in shiny.io. Is this a known difference in Posit Cloud Connect and it only serves dynamic content without any persistence?

When was the last time you used a "spare" button to fix your clothes?

Many clothes come with buttons - shirts, trousers, jeans, jackets - but I don't think i've ever used one in almost 30 years of being an adult. I've also never got rid of clothing because a button fell off.

I do still keep those spares, but is there any point? Or am I unusually gentle on my buttons?

UKRI "gap" funding for EU Horizon projects and potential no-cost extension

Is anyone in here a PI on a UKRI gap funded grant as a partner in an EU project and tried to get an extension?

Am currently on project and looks like we'll need to apply for an extension. I and the other UK co-Is are raising concerns about the feasibility of this. Anyone have any experience they can share?

Am sick of seeing this on BBC Sounds "There was a problem..."

Ever since the international switch off of BBC Sounds I've constantly experienced glitches, slow performance and errors.

It used to be really good. Now I'm finding I go for other sources to find podcasts and programmes to listen to.

Can't just be me. Is it?

Edit:
Don't know who flaired this as "international", but it isn't. Will change.

I've been regularly commuting 10 miles each way for 2-3 years now with an ebike and it's been great. I have been suffering a bit from dry and irritated eyes, and have come to the realisation recently that it's due to my cycling.

I wear prescription glasses so what options are there for decent wrap-arounds that I can wear over my normal glasses?
