ISO Birkenstock-y but not Birkenstocks

edit: many incredible suggestions to look at, thank you all! I knew Reddit was the place to ask.

Hello! I’m looking for very wide fitting outdoorsy sandals that are NOT Birkenstocks. I am interested in the Duckfeet brand, but I would like to see if there’s something out there with a similar sole shape that is a bit more rugged and easier on the wallet.

My primary issue with shoes in general is the fact that my forefoot is extremely wide and I would need basically clown shoes to accommodate my feet comfortably. I only have one pair of shoes that works for me now; my disorder that gives me wide+widening feet is progressing a bit (connective tissue disorder).
They’re a pair of altras, they are not perfect for me but they are much better than anything I can find at a normal shoe store. I could honestly take a wider forefoot area.

So as you can imagine, I have difficulty finding shoes that are the correct length and fit my heel while also being able to fit the front of my foot. The sole should also be supportive or orthopedic.
Any ideas? Brands to look at? Thank you xoxo

20th anniversary of my emotional support BaB means she goes in the soup

This is just the start but i wanted to live post for any of you sickos out there like me. Last pic is after the initial dunk and a little bit of squishing with my broomstick lol

The formula:
1/3 scoop febu
Sprinkle of biz
Sprinkle of oxi clean (purple label)
Dash of detergent powder
+hot tap water

Maybe some of my ingredients are a bit redundant, feel free to tell me if there’s any flaws in my ways but I kinda just threw a little bit of everything in there for good measure, so far it looks rly good. :D

Mr Lee (history teacher at Muir middle school) was on last night’s episode of Press Your Luck!!

It was so fun to watch him. I usually don’t get super into the whole thing yelling at the tv and stuff but my whole heart was in it this time. Definitely check it out!!! He did a fantastic job, I’m not going to spoil anything about the way it turned out but it was an exciting show regardless. He did great on camera.

Good job Mr Lee!!! 👏👏👏👏 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

IDL people who hurt others and then act like the guilt they experienced is worse than the harm they inflicted

That’s it that’s the post

Extra points if the admission of guilt is a shitty poem

Double extra points if the post mentions how the victim never gave them closure

Rules surrounding posts accusing members of PDs??

Is there any rule about people coming to this sub to post about their abusive family members?

If not, may I propose it as a rule? I believe there are more appropriate groups for those concerns. I was under the impression that this is a group for those with PDs to discuss symptoms and treatment. If I’m mistaken, forgive me.

Beatriz Flamini spent 500 days completely alone in a cave, cut off from clocks, sunlight, and all human contact, to see what extreme isolation does to the human mind.

Just diagnosed but unsure if I agree

As stated, my psychiatrist gave me the little printout describing the basic symptoms and we went over them. However, I feel like I more strongly identify with schizoid and avoidant pd and OCD than borderline. I can recognize that I share some traits with borderline, particularly around relationships, but I don’t see myself in the people I know with BPD.

Do I just not have a broad enough understanding of this condition? This psychiatrist doesn’t know me incredibly well yet but I’m also aware that he could just see something I couldn’t. I read you can have features of both/all PDs at once, which would make the most sense, but I’d like to get some feedback from real people.. Thank you :)

What meds are you on? Citalopram/celexa compatibility?

Hey all! I’ve decided to pursue medication for my ruminating and intrusive thoughts. I have a psych appt tomorrow. My practitioner is aware that I want to start medication so we will make that choice together. But I also wanted to ask the crowd:
What’s everyone’s experience with medications, and is anyone else also on the antidepressant celexa ? It works very well for me personally, so I am looking for a medication that is compatible with it.

Looking forward to hearing any input. Thank you and take care 💕

What should my therapeutic goals be?

I’m really trying to get back into therapy; I am aware of the whole issue around schizoid PD and therapy. However, I really do need to at least do something about my issues, and growing up I found therapy taught me some important emotional skills that I still call on today.
I was just assigned a new therapist, I’m going to schedule with her ASAP. Clean slate. What should I even work on?

For an example of something I want to work on, I really crave socialization and friends, but when my care worker came over and we were having a good time I was just so overwhelmed with insecurity, guilt, and shame. I’m still finding myself ruminating on the interactions days later.

Technically, I don’t “love” my isolation. I only like that being alone means not confronting the illness-inducing stress of socializing.

Is my goal to be comfortable around others or to accept my solitude? I am not doing well at accepting that I am incompatible with others. I want to be a “people person” so badly. I am excessively friendly to strangers/ppl in my community because it’s the closest thing I will ever get to love from another person I’m not related to. I want to be loved so badly but I feel like it’s unattainable so I’d just rather be not known by anyone, but the idea of dying without anyone knowing who I was terrifies me.

So, what do I do? Am I just going to end up hurting myself trying to minimize these parts of myself? How do I even proceed?

Does anyone else go to therapy and feel like they have made progress? Whether it just means being comfortable with yourself or actually changing the way you participate in the world. Thanks

Neighbor’s pair, pt 2: interspecies observation

Who’s observing who?

Nobody tell him what poodles were originally bred for. A life of blankets and treats made him forget all his instincts… I think the ducks like him even if he isn’t super interested in them lol. They will never meet without a barrier obviously but it’s nice to be fence friends

My twin that walks

Becoming more friendly with my neighbors, I was getting familiar with one of the families I say hi to often. One of them asked me about my twin brother.

I was naturally pretty confused, I’ve been an only child my whole life.

He said “your twin brother that walks?”

After a little bit of confused back and forth I realized they thought that the me that walks and the me that uses the wheelchair are two separate people!!! LOL!! I can’t imagine two of me I can’t even handle one.

we have a language barrier so it took a minute or two of trying to explain the dynamic nature of my disability before I just stood up and stomped my feet a little bit. Then they went ohhhhh ok. 🤣🤣🤣 just one of me.

I can’t stop thinking about this interaction. I recognize it as an opportunity to discuss dynamic disability, which I will next time I see them. I am really a lot of people’s first point of contact with disability in a young person (surprisingly enough) and ambulatory wheelchair users, so I make sure to not misconstrue genuine misunderstandings. But lmao. Thought you guys would enjoy my story

Subluxated my jaw, brainstorming home care ideas?

Hey all! As the title says, my jaw is out on one side. I called around to the local hospitals and urgent cares, they all said similar things, that they would assess and then give NSAIDs. No magical fix that they can give me, they might do imaging and might not.

I already take Meloxicam, I figure I’m not going to get anything more helpful than that so I am choosing to not seek medical care today.

I took my dose, I have heat and ice and I’m trying to not aggravate it. What else do you all suggest I do? Any random life hacks I’m missing out on?? Besides avoiding chewing.
I’m not going to manually adjust my jaw, it doesn’t help me.

Lmk! Thanks. Ow.
