Where you cum from? Why u in india 🤦‍♀️shameless godi media questioning Jean Drèze

Ah yes, the peak journalistic investigative brilliance of our TV studios striking again! Imagine having Jean Drèze right in front of you: a world-renowned development economist who co-authored seminal work with Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, played a key role in drafting MGNREGA and the National Food Security Act, has lived in rural India for over four decades, and most importantly someone who is a citizen of India like you and me.. but you decide to racially profile him 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

And your ultimate, high-IQ policy question is: "Where did you come from?" 🤦‍♀️ I wonder if journalist in india are even qualified to be one He is more indian and much more of a nationalist than you all could ever be. he has done way more for for this country than any of you people

Why does our society push sensitive, principled men who stand against injustice to the margins, while giving power and respect to actual abusers? I feel that many have been misrepresented by history

I kinda had been reading the memoirs of the militant Swadhinantha Phukan alias Kabiranjan Saikia and went down the rabbit hole with regards to many such rebels in modern Indian history. Before that just want to make it clear that I absolutely do not support separatism, but at the same time I do not know why I cannot help but feel a sense of empathy for them?

He was in his 20s when he dropped out of college and eventually joined the militant outfit ULFA. He died at the age of 26, when he was encountered by the military. stating all this as someone who leans left politically, I am constantly questioning how our state and society create monsters out of sensitive people, only to celebrate actual monsters in the mainstream. Reading about his life particularly completely broke me.

What really made me cry was learning about his letters to his girlfriend. She was sexually assaulted by army officers during the height of the insurgency. In the suffocating, damp heat of the Assam society did what it always does to survivors. They labeled her impure. They treated her as tainted goods and cast her aside. But Kabiranjan wrote to her with a radical love that is rare even today and this was smh from the 90s.

He told her directly that her trauma did not define her worth and that society's rejection meant nothing to him. He wrote to her saying, Xomaaje jiman apabitra buli nokouk kiyo, tumi xodai mur kolijar apon. No matter how impure society calls you, you will always be the closest to my heart. He validated her pain when the whole world turned a blind eye. He told her, Mur morom tumar xokolou bikh xaboti lobo. My love will embrace all your pain. To see a man in the 90s, surrounded by violence, holding his assaulted lover in such high regard and fiercely protecting her dignity against a patriarchal society is just profoundly moving. He saw her soul, not the violence inflicted upon her body.

What makes his story even more tragic is his stance within ULFA itself. He was in a militant organization no doubt, but he actively condemned them from the inside when they started targeting civilians. He even openly condemned and fought to punish any ULFA cadre that would harm someone from mainland India, stating Amar zuj bharot sorkaror biruddhe, bharotiyor biruddhe nohoy. our fight is with the indian government, not indians. He openly criticized the leadership for shedding innocent blood. He had a strict moral compass about not harming the vulnerable, which is incredibly rare for an armed insurgent.

Yet today, many in rest of India still see him as a terrorist. Ofc he rebelled against India, but seriously can you blame him. Because at that time, the indian army had complete immunity to assault even children and get away scotch free with it. If you also read his story, he was pushed to the brink with how much the Indian army itself inflicted pain on his family. so can we really blame him for rebelling?

It just leaves me with a very bitter feeling about modern Indian history. A young guy who loved an assaulted woman with everything he had, who stood against civilian killings within his own ranks, and who pushed against systematic injustice against the people of Northeast is permanently branded as a terrorist and shot down.

Meanwhile, we live in a reality today where politicians who are literal rapists, or who garland and celebrate rapists, sit in our parliaments. They are given power, respect, and police protection. How do we make peace with a society that destroys a poet for picking up a gun, but blindly worships leaders who destroy women every single day? I would love to know how what you all think of these dark hypocrisies.

Is Anyone Actually Safe From Men? Because It Is Not Just Women Getting Harassed

I am so tired of hearing this shit. Every time someone talks about harassment or predatory behavior, some dude has to crawl out of the woodwork with "not all men" like that solves anything. Like it makes the problem go away.

But here is the thing I realized. It is not just women. It is not just girls. Nobody is safe. Not even other men are safe from men.

My brother was twelve then. Twelve years old. before men start talking about weird experiments where men pretend and dress as women to experience the harassment, NO He does not dress feminine, he does not crossdress, he does not pretend to be a woman anywhere. He was just a normal kid wearing normal clothes. We were at this local market and some baba in his forties starts following us around. This guy starts talking to my brother about how silky his legs look. How soft his hands are. Then he pulls out candy and tries to get my brother to come with him to his "shop nearby" to see some "special toys."

I had to physically grab my brother by the arm and drag him away while this creep kept calling after us. And my brother? This dumbass kid was actually trying to take the candy. He did not understand. He thought the guy was just being nice. I had to explain to him later why a forty year old man should not be commenting on a twelve year old boy's legs. He did not get it. He thought I was overreacting.

Then there is my boyfriend. He is from the Northeast, he has that East Asian pale look, you know what I mean. We were in Connaught Place in Delhi, just trying to get an auto to the metro. This auto driver starts staring at him in the rearview mirror. Then he starts asking personal questions. Where are you from, are you Chinese, since when you two been together, and then after sometime out of nowhere do you like men. My boyfriend tries to shut it down but the guy keeps pushing.

Then at a red light, this driver turns around full body and reaches back to touch my boyfriend's thigh. Just puts his hand there and squeezes. Says something about how "smooth" he looks and how "soft" some boys are. My boyfriend had to physically shove his hand off and we had to jump out of the moving auto at the next light because the guy was trying to take us somewhere else. He was not even subtle about it. Broad daylight. Connaught Place. Middle of the city.

So when I hear "not all men," I want to ask!! who is left then? Who is safe? Little boys are not safe. Grown men are not safe. Women are obviously not safe. Girls are not safe. Even lizards dogs cows buffalo chicken are not safe. even trees are not safe, yes there are men who assault tree trunks

If it is "not all men," why does it feel like it is every man when you are in these situations? Why does every man feel like a potential threat until proven otherwise?

I am just so tired. I want to be able to walk around without calculating escape routes. I want my brother to be able to exist as a child without grown men sexualizing his legs. I want my boyfriend to be able to take a fucking auto without getting groped.

But sure. Not all men. Just enough of them to make everyone scared.

India really need to strengthen their laws for juvenile criminals. Horrifying bullying case from nagaland

A group of girls cornered another girl, in the washroom of a coaching centre, beat her, cut her clothes off, hacked her hair, and humiliated her while recording it. Made her life actual hell.

I won't even call it "bullying." This is assault. This is criminal.

And what's happening? Where's the strict action? Why are we still treating this like school drama instead of the violent crime it is? They just faced a suspension like seriously??

India needs to wake up. This culture of letting assault slide because "they're just kids" or "it's a personal matter" is exactly why this keeps happening. File real charges Make an example.

u/No_Rub_6403 — 12 days ago

what tf is happening in this country? Who is really safe? I feel completely numb at this point

I am starting to feel numb to all this because every single day there is another despicable case, but this one just hit a new low. What the fk is happening in India? We are supposed to rely on the police for safety, but they are the ones committing these heinous crimes.

In Arunachal Pradesh, a Sessions Court just sentenced a police personnel, R. Nayam, to life imprisonment for abetment of rape. The details are sickening. well atleast some justice ig?

The case itself is so sickening. Nayam and other police officers literally dragged a minor boy (13) and a minor girl (12) from the roadside into the police station and once inside, they physically assaulted the minors and forced them to have sexual intercourse with each other.

To make it even worse, they filmed the entire thing on a mobile phone and circulated it as an MMS to the public. Nayam's lawyer tried to plead for leniency saying he had kids, sick parents, and was "acting on instructions from senior officers", which is just terrifying if true.

The court rejected the plea for mercy, but the fact that a cop on duty used his power to assault and humiliate minors inside a police station is just beyond depressing.

How are women and children supposed to feel safe when the protectors are the predators? I’m just so exhausted by the constant stream of these news stories. Are we ever going to see real change in the system?

what makes it outrageous is if you read the judgement of the court, they acquitted all others, because they apparently did not physically assault the children, just forced them to have intercourse and filmed it. apparently that only meant a 25,000 Rs fine. The police also initially tried filing the FIR against the boy who is only 13. the boy was kept in juvenile detention by rakesh nayam where he was further assaulted. apparently this extra assault was why Rakesh got life imprisonment while the other police officers were only allowed to go with a fine.

Also look at the comments made by men on facebook and insta with laughing emojis.

these are like majority of men, insta comments on this incident are even more horrendous. some people are commenting about how lucky the boy should have been, that police uncle "helped him" i lost hope on indians

and this is also to the women out here, who think Northeast Indian men are such a gentlemen. girl no, they are all of the same filth

Chaddi bro gathered a whole classroom of school girls just to give them the ultimate unsolicited "Boys will ruin your life and you're dressing for the male gaze" lecture 🤡

Can we please collectively revoke the mic from random uncles who think young girls are just sitting around waiting for their expert life guidance?

So in this video, we have this genius standing in front of a classroom of visibly exhausted school kids in uniforms, pacing back and forth like he's yk dropping a Pulitzer winning philosophy. 🤣🤣His main hot take? That girls only get Instagram famous or wear clothes to impress boys, and that having a boyfriend is basically a one-way ticket to ruining your entire existence.

Ah yes, thank you random uncle in a turban and saffron scarf, because before this groundbreaking lecture, these school kids had absolutely zero concept of life outside of reels. loved the side-eyes and blank stares from the kids tho lmaooo

when will these inc*ls realize we do not dress to impress anyone lmao

Tell me your ego is fragile without telling me your ancient culture is threatened by basic human rights

Ah yes, the geopolitical mastermind andhbhakt strikes again.

Imagine believing that equal rights for women is actually a top secret, foreign funded terror operation designed specifically to break up marriages and dismantle culture. Because obviously, the biggest threat to national stability isn't systemic inequality, corruption, or poverty; it's a woman asking to be treated like a human being.

It’s always fascinating how fragile these ancient, thousands of years old cultural values suddenly become the moment someone suggests women should have autonomy. If basic gender equality is enough to single handedly collapse your entire social fabric and marriage system, maybe the problem isn't foreign funding. Maybe the foundation was just built on sand, nah?

Also love the classic victim complex lmaooo. Feminism is attacking only one culture, because as we all know, patriarchy, religious fundamentalism, and misogyny don't exist anywhere else on the planet. It must be so exhausting living in a world where every single push for basic human dignity is secretly a grand conspiracy against your personal worldview

"Decent and elegant" moral policing? BJ party's Shreyasi Singh’s comments on the Jamui... are interesting

I am honestly speechless and for most parts do not know what to say after hearing the shit Bihar Minister Shreyasi Singh's said regarding the horrific harassment of two minors in Jamui. When asked about the mob that confronted and publicly humiliated a schoolgirl and her friend, her take was that "moral policing can be done in a more decent and elegant fashion."

well well what does that even mean? I mean BJ party is a party of abusers but them publicly admitting to this? Also wtf is the problem is the girl was dating, it is a very normal teenage age to date someone

Is there a polite, manual for taking away an individual's autonomy and dignity? Should goons put on a suit, bow politely, and hand over a handwritten note before intimidating young boys and girls in public??? lmaoo It is completely mind boggling to hear this coming from a 35yo educated leader and former international athlete, let alone a woman in power. Instead of shutting down the concept of illegal public harassment entirely, she somehow normalized the core idea of moral policing itself. The problem is not the tone or the aesthetics of street harassment. The problem is the harassment itself.

Now these misogynists have also started targeting clean shaved men lmao

I just stumbled upon this absolute masterpiece of patriarchal logic. According to this amazing preacher Murat Bayaral, men without beards might cause "indecent thoughts" in other men because they "look like women". Let that sink in. Apparently, a smooth jawline is now a gateway to moral panic because a man might accidentally look like a woman. Women's faces are once again treated as inherently inappropriate by default, to the point where even a passing resemblance poses an existential threat to male self-control, lmaoo

is Gillette about to be declared illegal? Are clean-shaven guys going to need a warning label? And most importantly, what on earth is next? damn.... these guys will always put the blame on others for their internalised sex craze

Misogyny in the Buddhist canon (Thanks to my arunachali friend for putting this together)

Ik I posted about hinduism before but many do not critique buddhism, so here I go. :) I am thinking of having something similar from other religions too, but still reading their scripture, and also need to find someone of that faith... anyways I have always held the value that all organised religions were created by men to control women so this is not really surprising

So the Pali Canon contains a prophecy that women's ordination would cut the lifespan of the Dhamma in half, a discourse comparing women to a black snake, basically this is a discourse stating flatly that women are angry, envious, stingy and stupid.

So lets start with the eight garudhammas

Garudhamma is usually rendered "heavy rule" or "principle to be respected." Accepting these, the text says, was Mahapajapati's ordination.

  1. A nun ordained a hundred years must bow to a monk ordained that morning.
  2. A nun may not spend the rains retreat in a district with no monks.
  3. Every fortnight nuns must ask the monks' community for the observance day and for exhortation.
  4. The end-of-rains ceremony must be performed before both communities.
  5. A nun who commits a serious offence undergoes penance before both communities.
  6. A candidate trains two years as a probationer, then seeks higher ordination from both communities.
  7. A nun may never revile or abuse a monk.
  8. Nuns may not admonish monks. Monks may admonish nuns.

Then comes this passage:

Sace, ānanda, nālabhissa mātugāmo tathāgatappavedite dhammavinaye agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajjaṃ, ciraṭṭhitikaṃ, ānanda, brahmacariyaṃ abhavissa, vassasahassameva saddhammo tiṭṭheyya. Yato ca kho, ānanda, mātugāmo tathāgatappavedite dhammavinaye agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajito, na dāni, ānanda, brahmacariyaṃ ciraṭṭhitikaṃ bhavissati. Pañceva dāni, ānanda, vassasatāni saddhammo ṭhassati.

translation: If, Ananda, women had not obtained the going forth from home to homelessness in the Dhamma and discipline proclaimed by the Tathagata, the holy life would have been long lasting, the true Dhamma would have stood a thousand years. But since women have obtained the going forth, the holy life will not now be long lasting. The true Dhamma will now stand five hundred years.

Three similes follow after this,

Seyyathāpi, ānanda, yāni kānici kulāni bahutthikāni appapurisakāni, tāni suppadhaṃsiyāni honti corehi kumbhatthenakehi

Just as, Ananda, those households with many women and few men are easily overcome by robbers and burglars.

Seyyathāpi, ānanda, sampanne sālikkhette setaṭṭhikā nāma rogajāti nipatati, evaṃ taṃ sālikkhettaṃ na ciraṭṭhitikaṃ hoti

Just as, Ananda, when the disease called setatthika falls upon a fine field of rice, that field of rice does not last

So basically women are being compared to crops

Then there is this,

"Venerable sir, what is the cause, what is the condition, why a woman does not sit in the assembly, does not engage in work, does not travel to Kamboja?"

"Ananda, a woman is prone to anger. Ananda, a woman is envious. Ananda, a woman is stingy. Ananda, a woman lacks wisdom. This, Ananda, is the cause, this is the condition."

Then lets see Anguttara Nikaya 5.229 and 5.230

"Pañcime, bhikkhave, ādīnavā kaṇhasappe. Katame pañca? Asuci, duggandho, sabhīru, sappaṭibhayo, mittadubbhī. Ime kho, bhikkhave, pañca ādīnavā kaṇhasappe. Evamevaṁ kho, bhikkhave, pañcime ādīnavā mātugāme. Katame pañca? Asuci, duggandho, sabhīru, sappaṭibhayo, mittadubbhī."

"Monks, there are these five drawbacks in a black snake. What five? It is impure, foul smelling, timid, frightening, a betrayer of friends. These are the five drawbacks in a black snake. In just the same way, monks, there are these five drawbacks in a woman. What five? She is impure, foul smelling, timid, frightening, a betrayer of friends."

then there is Majjhima Nikaya 115, the five impossibilities

what cannot ever happen? a woman could be a fully awakened Buddha, a wheel-turning monarch, Sakka the king of the gods, Mara, or Brahma.

The Theravada monks' Patimokkha has 227 rules. The nuns' has 311. read them up those rules are really interesting

Samyutta Nikaya 5.2, in the Bhikkhuni Samyutta. Mara approaches the nun Soma while she is meditating in the Blind Grove and says this:

"Yaṁ taṁ isīhi pattabbaṁ, ṭhānaṁ durabhisambhavaṁ; Na taṁ dvaṅgulapaññāya, sakkā pappotumitthiyā"ti.

That state which is to be attained by the sages, so hard to reach, cannot be attained by a woman with her two-finger wisdom.

In mahayana scripture things go further, Lotus Sutra, chapter 12. The naga king's daughter, eight years old, has attained perfect awakening. Sariputra objects: a woman's body is defiled, unfit to be a vessel of the Dharma, and besides, there are the five obstructions (the same list as MN 115). She offers a jewel to the Buddha, it is accepted instantly, and then her body transforms into a male body and she completes the bodhisattva path and teaches.

Sukhavativyuha, 35th vow. Amitabha vows that women who hear his name and rejoice will not be reborn as women again. salvation thus is an escape of being a woman

The Blood Bowl Sutra Maudgalyayana descends to hell looking for his mother and finds her among women forced to drink menstrual blood, damned for having polluted the earth by bleeding.

The Bodhisattva perfects the paramita of generosity by giving away his children to a brahmin who beats them in front of him, and then giving away his wife Maddi. Hmm well, women and children are your property to give away anyways

To all boys, this is how you date a girl (trust me, I am giving you inside info)

ok all you boys complaining you can't get a girlfriend let me tell you what actually works because i'm a girl and i know what we want

first you need to stop being so desperate all the time

and you need to stop showering for exactly 4 days girls can smell natural confidence and it's like a love potion to them

on day 5 go to school with one side of your head completely shaved and the other side long like you're half boy half girl

girls love duality it shows you're complex

you want to impress that girl in your class? go date one of her guy friends first

yes you heard me right date a guy it shows confidence and that you're not like other boys who are thirsty all the time

girls notice when a boy can assert dominance like that

then wear something unexpected to school like a maid outfit not the full thing just the apron and headband it shows you're funny and confident

when your crush sees this walk up to your boyfriend and kiss him in front of her

trust me she'll be so jealous because she'll want that attention from you

after that ignore your crush for exactly 3 days

on day 4 walk up to her and just say "hey" then walk away

this is how you get the girl every single time

it's human nature girls can't resist a boy who's confident enough to date another guy and wear whatever he wants

you will have all girls chasing u at school

Read this research on how Northeastern women's faces get priced in Delhi... and it kinda made me think if being "wanted" in this country ever once felt like a good thing?

Trigger warning! sorry in advance this is going to be all over the place.

i'm 19. part northeastern. moving for college soon. i've been living away from my family for a while now, home wasn't really working out, that's a whole other post.

so someone i follow posted about this paper on insta. its called "skin capital." i clicked it thinking i'd read two lines. read the whole thing instead. its quite interesting tbh

it's about northeastern women in delhi doing sex work. nineteen of them. manipur, nagaland, mizoram.

and they're students?? almost all of them came to delhi for college. fourteen were still enrolled while doing this. some of them are 19. 20.

that's me. that's literally my age. also it kinda felt close because I work part time at a shop, and have gotten so many such weird comments from middle aged uncles.

the argument of this paper is that your face is the product. not your degree, not anything you did. your eyes. and it costs more because men look at you and think korean, japanese, whatever.

i actually felt sick reading it but kinda also really hard to grasp this. like physically.

because we all know the stares. every NE girl knows. and it's the same thing?? the guy yelling slurs and the guy stereotyping you even when you work in a restaurant are running on the exact same thing in their head. i always thought of those as two different problems. they're not.

that's the part i keep circling. men don't only do this by hating you. they also do it by wanting you. and the wanting version comes with a compliment attached so you're supposed to feel good about it. you're not a person in either one. you just cost more in one.

there's a line where one woman says her face doesn't feel like hers anymore.

i've read that like ten times already

and i'm not saying they're to be shamed. its just that its hard to picture whats presented in this paper like racism is being monetized. like wtf

but also i can't call that freedom. she's choosing from a menu men wrote. that's still a choice. it's not the same as being free. both of those are true at once and it's doing my head in a bit.

also the whole thing runs through telegram groups and PG accommodations apparently as presented here.

and I am scared af because I am currently staying with my bhaiyah and was hoping to move to a PG for college or a dormitory. landlords charging extra rent to not ask questions? like wtf again. these are girls in normal student areas.

different situation obviously, i'm not comparing myself. but reading this right now hit way harder than it would've last year.

so wanted to ask, has being "wanted" in this country ever once felt like a good thing to any of you? because i can't think of a single time. would really like to hear from other NE girls, i don't have anyone to talk to about this.

but also i can't call that freedom. she's choosing from a menu men wrote. that's still a choice. it's not the same as being free. both of those are true at once and it's doing my head in a bit.

also the whole thing runs through telegram groups and PG accommodations apparently as presented here.

and I am scared af because I am currently staying with my bhaiyah and was hoping to move to a PG for college or a dormitory. landlords charging extra rent to not ask questions? like wtf again. these are girls in normal student areas.

different situation obviously, i'm not comparing myself. but reading this right now hit way harder than it would've last year.

so wanted to ask, has being "wanted" in this country ever once felt like a good thing to any of you? because i can't think of a single time. would really like to hear from other NE girls, i don't have anyone to talk to about this.

Why I have 0 sympathy for Sonam Wangchuk?

I know liberals love to romanticize Sonam Wangchuk as this saintly eco-warrior fighting for Ladakh, but honestly, the collective amnesia in progressive circles is exhausting. If you look at his actual political history through a proper class lens, he is the textbook definition of a technocratic bourgeois reformer who happily fed into right-wing majoritarianism when it served his clout.

Let us stop pretending his entire brand isn't rooted in a massive savior complex. For years, Wangchuk has acted like he alone possesses the enlightened tech-bro wisdom needed to "fix" education and ecology. It is top down, elite driven green capitalism at its finest. He treats systemic oppression like a simple bug instead of addressing the actual brutal realities of class exploitation and imperialist state control.

And let us def talk about his shameless alignment with Hindutva rhetoric. When the state was whipping up anti-China hysteria, who was out there feeding right into the jingoistic boycott campaigns? Wangchuk. He used his platform to champion hypernationalism and border militarization, giving a progressive cover to the exact same majoritarian security apparatus that oppresses working people across the region. He catered directly to mainstream right wing sentiments as long as he thought he would get a seat at the table.

Now that the contradictions of the capitalist state have caught up with him, liberals expect us to treat him like a martyr. Bhai, you do not get to flirt with reactionary politics, push state backed nationalism, act superior to real grassroots organizers, and then cry fascism when the same authoritarian machinery turns on you.

Radical solidarity belongs to the working class of Ladakh, not to elite technocrats who only realize the state is toxic when it hits their own doorstep.

You Don't Care About the Victim, You Just Hate Women

I came across a post where the OP was upset because a news headline did not explicitly state the gender of a female rapist. It is frustrating how quickly these discussions get hijacked by claims that "women are bad" or that there is a "systemic agenda against men."

Before anyone misunderstands me. well yes, female rapists exist, they are despicable, and they should be locked up forever. The issue is that the men bringing this up are not doing it to advocate for the victim or demand justice. They are using male victims as a tool to dismiss and downplay the sexual violence women face daily.

What makes this even worse is that when this news first broke, many of these same men were making light of the victim, saying things like "wish that were me" or calling the boy "lucky." Sexualizing a minor is pedophilia, plain and simple, yet it gets brushed aside by a culture that too often tolerates or normalizes this behavior.

As for why The Hindu did not mention the perpetrator's gender in the headline: that is simply standard journalistic style for that specific publication. Other news outlets explicitly mentioned the teacher's gender right in the headline. If these men had taken two seconds to check, they would have seen that The Hindu reports on male perpetrators using the exact same neutral phrasing.

People need to stop pretending to care about the victim when it is convenient for a gender debate. If you truly cared, you would focus on the trauma that child went through, rather than using a tragic crime to score points in an online argument. All rapists and pedophiles, regardless of gender, belong in prison for life.
