Craft nights?

I'm putting together a list of bars/venues that host a weekly (or at least semi-regular) open craft night for this hobby-centric newsletter, and before I drive myself crazy looking at the calendars of every venue out there, hoping crowdsourcing here might help!

(Note: I have no affiliation with any of these businesses, paid or otherwise)

Do you know of any others to add to this list? Thanks in advance!!

So far I have:

Crowdsourcing classes & workshops happening in the park to feature in summer hobby guide

I'm working on the next edition of our Brooklyn Hobby Guide and particularly interested in featuring any courses that are happening outside (either in Prospect Park or surrounding areas) for our July/August issue.

If you are leading (or know of) any hobby-related courses, workshops, events etc happening over the next couple of months, please reply here or feel free to fill out this form.

(For context: the June Hobby Guide was received by >4,800 locals, so it's a good way to get the word out to a hobby-curious crowd).

June Hobby Guide: looking to fill some gaps...

I've gotten some great input from Bushwick redditors in the past, so please let me know if you have any hobby happenings (dj classes, mahjong workshops, pickleball clinics etc) coming up that I can include in next month's roundup!

I tend to only include experiences that will really help someone dive into a new hobby and gain enough skill/community to feel equipped to keep going, but you know of shorter experiences (less than 2 hours), I can still include those in the weekly emails.

Thanks in advance 😄

After much thought and hesitancy to put this out there, I'm giving this a shot...hopefully this post will find its way to the right eyes....

We're a Prospect Heights based family seeking. a “chosen grandma” — a warm, curious, nature & art-loving woman (60s–70s) who isn’t a grandma, but longs for that role.

Our delightful, almost four-year-old son is charming, conscientious, funny, clever, active, curious, adaptable, observant, and easy going. Unfortunately, since both of my parents have passed and his paternal grandparents are not in the picture, he doesn’t have an active grandparent.

We have many friends in Brooklyn who do a fabulous job playing the role of "chosen" aunts and uncles to our son, but it pains us that our parents aren't around to experience the joy of being in his presence. Especially at this stage in his development which feels truly magical to witness.

We’re hoping to find someone who wants to be part of our family’s rhythm on a ~weekly basis: meals (my partner’s an incredible chef!) and adventures near Prospect Park.

Please share with anyone who might be interested.

We would prefer to find a "grandma" who doesn't already have grandkids but wishes she did (maybe because her children have chosen not to have kids, maybe she has lost a child and thus the chance to become a grandma, or maybe she never had kids). Ideally she also is:

  • in her 60s/70s (open to 50s or 80s)
  • warm, wise, patient, and playful
  • open-minded and emotionally mature
  • either single or partnered, doesn't matter
  • based in Brooklyn, ideally near-ish Prospect Park
  • interested in getting together on a regular basis for a communal meal (we can host!) or neighbourhood outing
  • enjoys spending time in nature and participating in her community

If this at all resonates with you, please DM me and I'll share more info/we can coordinate a meet up :)

*Note: we do not expect any childcare!*
Additionally: I have tried meeting people organically, through the library, botanic gardens, religious communities, senior centers, and volunteering, but thank you for these suggestions.
