We adopted a puppy about a month and a half ago and the shelter told us she came from a large scale hoarding situation. Now that she's both coming of age and getting more comfortable in her new home, we are starting to see some of her true personality come out and she is probably going to need to be a muzzle pup in her future. The trainer we are working with found her to be a little unpredictable.

She's 7 months old now, 43 lbs, and is half German shepherd so I imagine she is going to be considered large breed. As you can see, she has kind of a funky head shape (very noodly) and I am not sure a regular "off the shelf" muzzle is going to fit her. At least not when I compared her head to the muzzle I own for my other dog. I foresee a custom made one in her future. I really can't afford to buy one now and another larger one in the future since I've seen how pricey these things are.

Looking for advice for other large breed dog owners who started with puppies. I don't know how adjustable some of these nice brands are either (like big snoof and muzzle project) so not sure if they are future proof at all.

I didn't have to buy a muzzle for my other dog until he was a full fledged adult so I didn't have this problem.

If it was illegal to be adorable, my pets would all be going to JAIL because look at them.

I love it! It's precious. I'm probably going to freeze the face portion of the cake because it's a lot of cake to eat between two people. What a fabulous gift

I had no doubt in my mind Obsidian would be a good big brother, we just needed to introduce everyone at the right pace. As they say, slow and steady wins the race. We let the future BFFs be together this week and little sister Olivine cannot get enough of big bro Obsidian.

I can't wait to see how these two grow together.

My record is clean and if reddit were to review my account history, I have committed no such phishing crimes. I just don't understand why l*gal consultation would be strongly advised. I also don't understand why they would have someone reach out to them using a different app and not via reddit.

I've never been accused of such a thing so any guidance is appreciated.

Wish I could quit my job and be with him all day, but alas, I have to be able to afford his greenies.

We got a 6mo puppy on Saturday. We'd been discussing getting another dog, but I did NOT want a puppy. Yet, here we are. We committed to keeping the dogs separated for a little while as new girl gets settled in. She has been introduced to our old gal because she literally does not give a shit. Obsidian is a little more sensitive and we want him to have more time to get used to the sounds and smells of our new friend. We will do a parallel walk on neutral ground over the weekend as the beginning of our introduction process.

It has been hard to rotate between the actual love of my life and an adorable new pup, but I have to remind myself this is temporary. I know he will love her in due time. He will be such a good influence on her. He is so dog neutral on walks, whereas my old dog is a little bit of a firecracker, and he checks in a lot. I think she can learn a lot of good from him.

I'm very tired now. If anyone has any words of wisdom to keep me going, I'd love to hear them. I haven't had a puppy in nearly a decade.

I pray that at least some of Opal's brains rubs off on little Olivine because she is all beauty at the moment. We just sent off her DNA test yesterday so I am looking forward to finding out what her mix is. Opal is smart as a whip so I am hoping I can use a little social learning to help Olivine pick up on some things.

I can't get over how cute their matching faces are. Opie used to be more solidly black in the day.

Puppies are cute and all, but take a look at Obsidian. The light of my life.

This is Olivine. She's six months old. She's 43.5 lbs as of her last weigh in. As far as anyone is aware, she came from the Chicagoland area.

We've only had her a couple of days so there is plenty about her we don't know yet, but things we have noticed:

She is pretty aloof and either doesn't hear well or prefers not to hear things

She doesn't seem to track super well with her eyes, ie if you throw a treat, she might not find it. But that could be the aloof thing, too.

With a little redirection, she has been able to get over the fact that cats exist

She has no idea her nose is as long as it is (bumps it a lot).

Tail curls when excited

I can't tell if she will/has an undercoat. It might be thin.

If anyone wants to put in their two cents while we wait for the results, I am curious what other people think in this sub!
