Folks, we got ourselves a shouter in this NMC

I love this little guy. He lives down the street from me and is taken care of between a couple of people. He greeted me with some full throated screams and that's just the way I like it.

Where are the best dark skies within 12-14 hours drive of Chicago?

I can't to finally see the milky way after a failed attempt in May. We are going to make a trip of it in September and we are willing to drive anywhere within this time range.

I was thinking the badlands of SD but if there is a better place to go, I am all ears.

I haven't even looked to see how much overhead the milky way will still be in September by the new moon but due to unforeseen circumstances, we aren't able to go anywhere for July or likely August.

At the vet, we discovered my sweet little Opal had been shot in her past

My poor little girl. We were at the vet for a routine check because she is ancient and we opted to do an x-ray to look at her heart. She has always been extremely healthy so we never had have a reason to X-ray her in the past. We got her from someone on Craigslist and pieced her past together through her Embark relatives.

The vet was just as surprised as we were.

She has been to the vet regularly and on an even higher frequency once she hit her teen years and none of us ever knew. There are zero signs of trauma, physically or emotionally.

I am sort of devastated by this. It must have happened somewhere in the last 15-17 years. We already know she was passed around a lot early in life but to add this to her story and knowing how much she loves people just goes to show how resilient dogs are. She is definitely getting treated to some froyo this weekend 🥺

THIS is what we are doing it for!!

And not a clover in sight. Apparently if you post in the fucklawn subs, people get real riled up if you tell them clover lawns and other non-native lawns aren't doing enough for our pollinators. My garden is not very large but the impact is there. We attract many pollinators and all my neighbors vegetable gardens thrive. I don't even know what half the bees are in this video.

Sorry there isn't a video flair.

I can enter and leave at the same time as my neighbors now.

Where I live, our houses are set at a zero lot line so our houses are feet from each other. My dog has had an issue with people for a while but we have settled down quite a bit with time and effort. Our larger hurdle was people being near our house as we approached. Can't do anything about neighbors wanting to go home at the same time as us, so we would usually wait it out. I would always check the door before we left to make sure they weren't out there. My boy seems to have figured it out.

I was really hungry and we were approaching our house when I noticed our neighbors were going back to their house. They have a younger child and they were letting her figure out the keys to open the door for them. I held out as long as I could before deciding we would just go in. To be clear, we do have a fence and a railing and stairs between us, and he is leashed, so the worst that would have happened would have been barking, but I try to avoid that. He was totally fine. I gave him a ton of reward.

A couple days later, we were put to the test again and this time the family was with the dad, and being a man I suspected my dog might give a little growl or something, but once again he completely kept his cool.

Sometimes I worry that there might be something wrong with my dog because he *isn't* reacting like he used to, but I just have a hard time giving us both credit for all the work we have put into his training. There used to be a time we couldn't even see a person from across the street without him barking.

I couldn't be prouder of my boy.

I can't log in to leave a review on their website so here's a picture of my weeping moss after a trim and when I bought it two months ago

I had so much from my trim I could actually transfer it to my other tank. I'm so happy.

Replacement hairs for ALL the packs, including base game hair?

There isn't a single hair EA made that isn't hideous. Would love suggestions on where to download replacement hairs to replace the base game and other pack hairs. This is a fresh install so I am making sure I have no cursed or ugly sims right from the beginning

I hated the cup and just want to commiserate.

I use birth control to skip my period but every now and again I have to have one. I bought a cora cup and I just didn't like it. It was uncomfortable for me. I don't know if it was just the wrong brand for me or what, but I am not getting enough practice in to really get used to it I guess.

Everyone around me praises them as the most amazing thing since sliced bread. I want to get away from tampons but I just can't get on board.

Are there others like me? What is our solution?

Absolutely mucked up my game and have to reinstall. How do I salvage all the hard work I put into my saves and getting to program to run smooth(ish)?

I downloaded a couple things and I opened up ccmagic for the first time in two years and something between the two completely fucked my game. No idea why. It reset my game settings and when I try to change them (ie the resolution), the cursor no longer works, nor the keyboard.

My problem is I have put so much time into my game, revamping my world I built but never perfected in CAW 😭 and I also installed and did all of the big "make the game work right on a modern computer" stuff two years ago and I don't want to do it again if I can spare myself

Can I simply save my entire sims 3 folder (from Documents) on my desktop and put it right back in after reinstallation?? I am so tired

Obsidian channeling his inner bird dog today

I've never seen him take any interest in birds in all his 9 years but today, something about this little robin caught his eye. He is always surprising me

I am so proud of my first cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum) bloom of the year

Our clematis virginiana has been off the hook for several weeks now, but native gardening spoke to me because of all the yellow flowers in my region. I count down the days until my first cup plant bloom because it's really the first sign of summer as far as I am concerned. This is the real treasure trove of my yard.

We let it get a little out of hand in years past and had to trim it down a bit to let other things survive but I am excited!! The buzzing of all the critters is only going to intensify now.

Where I live, there is nary a monoculture lawn to be found, but where are the bugs? Variety isn't enough, yall

Chicago 6a

Recently I have been using this plant identification app (mostly because my husband has been and he said he has probably identified more plants than I had birds in my bird app, and I took that as a challenge) and have been staring at the ground and plants harder than I ever have. I never realized how many different plants there were just in the parkway where I have been walking my dog for the last eight years!!

In my first day, not IDing any person's purposely gardened plant, I identified over 50 species. For the last couple days, I have been searching high and low for new plants. Yesterday, a bee got in my way. That was annoying. Then it dawned on me. Where tf are all the bees? Where are all the butterflies? Where are the BUGS? except mosquitoes, those fuckers don't need any help, as proven by the bites on my legs.

I can't hardly find a single yard that *just* has a single grass lawn, but still there are no bugs?

Throughout my search I had looked at a couple of the plants I have been IDing to read about them and it appears the trend is that a lot of these plants are just not from this country. Just this morning, I found a plant that I must have passed a million times, but it was so teeny tiny that I never noticed it, but today I was paying close attention. It was so cute. The plant was procumbent pearlwort if you are wondering. I wanted to see where it was from and was disappointed to find that it was not native. That's when I put two and two together.

No natives means no support for local pollinators.

Now I guess a lot of folks already know that but it has never been so in my face before. I see all these posts about people wanting to replace their lawn (and when they say lawn I know they are also in the US) with clover or something low maintenance that isn't grass, but like what's the point?

I'm doing my part with my native garden but it's really really not enough

Where to find cute accessories (hats, scarves, glasses, etc)?

I love a cute accessory, especially for winter like scarves and hats, but I have had such a hard time finding cute CC. Does anyone have any tumblr recs? I have probably looked through TSR front and back three times.

For your viewing pleasure: this is Silver

Silver is a part of a TNR colony that I hang out with. She is usually pretty shy and reserved, but today was hunting a little ways away from home base, she caught the attention of a passerby walking ahead of me by meowing at him. I thought that was so sweet. I caught up with her and gave her a churu because she deserved it obviously. She has the same beautiful dusty coat as her mama Martha, but a slightly more silvery face.
