Some more cool stuff from my work

The CD players are really cool, if I had space I’d get the Sony 60 disc since it looks sick, probably isnt the best of quality though. Unfortunately the cds were mostly Christian Rock/Country, otherwise I would’ve asked for some, the dvd selection was good though.

Some cool stuff I got from/ saw at my work

I only was able to get the floppy’s and the cassette but it’s still a score since I have a bunch of old tape camcorders, plus I’d like to see what ~30 year old files are on the discs

Unfortunately we couldn’t keep the pc since “there’s a risk that personal data may be on it” even though the hdd is removed and the optical drive is empty

While they may be a little more than just a CRT, oscilloscopes are my favorite tube based tech

Got this for $5 for my RF only crt, okay purchase?

It has yellow RCA and mono audio lol, plus an RF connection so I won’t have to use my modulator. I’m saving for a nicer combo unit with S video but it was hard to pass this up since it’s fully working.

As an employee, am I meant to get a discount at all locations in my region?

Usually I just shop at the one I work at from time to time since I get a 30% off discount, recently I went to a different location, same region (MERS), and got no discount. I mentioned to them that I’m an employee, signed the duplicate employee purchase receipt, the cashier even trained with one of my coworkers but I got no discount, is this normal?

What do you first do when you get a CRT?

I’ve seen a lot of people say different things, a lot just do a dusting and check for necessary maintenance. I’ve seen some people say that they’ll grease under the cap as that’s required after lots of usage. Some people say to replace the HOT or other components as they’re prone to failure after a long time and should be replaced immediately. Was wondering about whats really necessary to prolong functionality. Thanks!

How to fix this slight discoloration on the upper left side?

It’s an Emerson CR202EM9 connected via RF hooked up to my RF modulator

Upper right side*

Is this caused by an issue with my connection, RF modulator, CRT, or just the media?

The picture distorts a bit to the left, this is on my Daytron RF only CRT

Some cool stuff I’ve picked up for free during my time working for a thrift store

My manager is a really nice person and knows I like to fix/work on things so at the end of the week she lets me pick a broken/small item to keep, my favorite is definitely the Sony cyber shot since ever since digicams have been romanticized it’s been hard to find a nice one online for sub $100, the Sandisk clip jam is also sweet since I love electronics with transparent parts

How to delete channel 2 to use video input? It was originally set to video then I scanned for channels and now it’s stuck on channel 2

When I first got it, it was set to video input, then I messed around with it for a bit scanning for channels and now it’s stuck on channel 2, when I try to toggle to a different channel it just stays there, when using the delete option it has me mark it as purple for delete and blue for add. I toggle it to purple and press menu but then nothing happens. Do I need to get a universal remote or am I going about it the wrong way?

How to get the goodwill I work at to stop selling “hygiene products” like used makeup and body wash?

I work for MERS goodwill as a retail donation attendant and we’re told to put all items like this aside for disposal yet it still ends up being sold. I don’t think my manager would be receptive to any comments since typically when I have a concern about something she says “well we’re not really supposed to do that but I think it’s safe” . Who do I need to reach out to in order for these items to stop being but out?

Is this normal?

Ive just started recently as a donation attendant and my manager wants me to stop putting dangerous items in the large black Gaylord marked as not sellable, she says that’s only for trash and that any donations should not go there immediately as they should be put there by processors and not retail donation attendants. The thing is that I had soiled clothing and electronics that were fire hazards due to bent outlet prongs/expanded lithium batteries, she had me remove it and put the items in the wares bin for the processors to sort instead of me. Is this normal? I work at MERS goodwill

I’m starting as a retail donation attendant tomorrow, tips?

I know I’ll be outside in really hot weather a bunch so I know hydration and UV protection is important. I’m only gonna be working full time for the summer since I’m still 16 and have to do school and if it works out I’ll probably be doing part time afterwards. I’m mainly looking for other peoples input since this’ll be my first job, I have no issue with working and moving stuff around since it’ll be replacing the time I usually spend in the gym.
Anyways, all advice appreciated!

Edit: since Im a retail donation attendant and I have to come in before opening, should I come in through the front or go around to the back? Thanks!

Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with my CRT?

Ive posted here before but I didn’t include some necessary information. I’m unsure if it’s the flyback, a bad capacitor on the B rail, or a bad Horizontal Output Transmitter. What I can confirm is that the flyback is not arcing and that there is no smoke coming from it or anywhere else.

I haven’t tested with a multimeter/oscilloscope yet but am planning on doing it soon. I’m not sure if this is diagnosable in the meantime. It is a Sanyo DS13400 14”. The static and blue screen appear fine it’s just the RCA that causes this, haven’t tested with RF modulator yet. More pics in comments

Also I know to discharge prior to working on it and all the safety precautions to take, I appreciate all help

How should I go about desoldering and replacing a bad cap on my CRT

I have to replace the main filter capacitor, I’m very new to soldering, do I have to get a desoldering gun? I use a Geeboon TC22 and I’ve already discharged it so there’s no chance of it shocking me, are there any other precautions I should take as a beginner? Also if I do need a desoldering gun I’d appreciate a recommendation, thanks!

Are console units worth it?

I have a chance to pick up this 27” console unit for pretty cheap, the only main con is that the seller said there’s a set of stairs that I’d have to lift it up. Would a unit like this be worth it or should I save my time/money for something better? Thanks

Are you allowed to buy stuff from ewaste centers

I know there’s no universal rules regarding this but I’m looking for other people’s experiences before I head to one. Im looking for a CRT and curious if the average recycling center lets people buy recycled goods from them. Last time I went the guy there gave me some free cables that I needed but didn’t explicitly say if I could or couldn’t buy stuff from the warehouse/center.

Should I return my Weller WLSK6012HD for something better?

Recently got one on sale at Home Depot for $45 after seeing it had pretty okay reviews, afterwards I saw some of its cons like not having temp control or not having any standby mode. I’m very new to soldering and mainly work on pcbs, Is this an okay one to start with or should I look at something with less risk to damage boards? Ive also looked at the Geeboon TC22 which has better reviews and a fairly competitive price so I’m wondering if I should return the Weller and get something better or just start using what I have.
