Courtesy clerk for high schooler

Looking for some PT income as a senior. Reading some of the older posts has me a little spooked in taking an offer for a position. I have another op with a clothing retailer at a mall. Can I get any more recent experience from any California based clerks for how things are? What are minimum hours required? I don’t think I can do more than 12 during first semester. I know management makes a huge difference, but any insights you can share would be appreciated!

What are minimum hours normally required per week?

Going to be interviewing for store associate role soon and wondering how many hours a day or days a week usually stores look for. Will be balancing school so don’t want to put too many hours in this semester but also don’t want to be rejected for saying I’m not available for 20hrs a week.

Family plan, can’t add daughter

I’ve had mint for a while and set up 2 family plans between my family, parents and in law. 6 lines setup on 2 mint family plans.

I just added a line for my daughter with the $180 unlimited 1 year deal. Just tried to add her to either of our existing family plans and it keeps erroring out. On one it said “number ineligible” to add.

Anyone know what would cause this? I just rather manage less accounts so now managing 3 vs 2 family plans.

I suppose I could also try to move my 2nd family members over under my daughter’s plan but feels odd since she still a minor and it’s paid through my credit card.

Extending Odyssey 70mm run possible?

Our theater basically has front rows (A/B) only until mid Aug available. I either can buy tix for row C towards the two ends or watch in standard. Any chance they might extend IMAX 70mm showing to late August given how popular the movie seems to be?

I just remember how miserable I was in middle of row B for Oppenheimer IMAX and don’t want to have another negative viewing experience.

Do you still make your kids do sports? (Rising senior)

My son will be 17, entering 12th grade in August. Ever since kindergarten, he’s participated in various sports (soccer/basketball/baseball till end of 8th grade). In 9th to first semester of 11th grade, he did high school cross-country and track.

Last semester of 11th (spring season), he declared he doesn’t want to do running anymore since he prefers cross country (only offered in the fall season). So I let him skip sports, but had him take a community college dual enrollment math course (which he got an A in). However, he ended up with a C+ in his AP English class (79%, but got a 4 in his AP test). He did get mostly As and another B in his other classes.

In my parenting mind, all the years of sports kept him on a schedule, where as last semester I noticed he played a lot more video games. Now he is saying he doesn’t want to do cross country again either (since most of his running friends would have graduated). But I feel like if I don’t have him participate in some organized sports, he’s just going to burn time on video games like he did last semester. I know he will also have to do college apps in the fall so I know mental health is something to keep in mind. But also think getting outside and doing a sport helps with balancing stress with just sitting in front of a computer to work or game.

I’m torn. I have been asking him to just go to a couple pre season cross country workouts to see if he likes the kids this season, OR sign him up for the local soccer rec league, which only does a couple practices and maybe a game on weekends to just put some structure in place. I know when he goes off to college, it’s all going to be up to him. But hey, he’s still with me for another year till then!

Sooo, do you still try to steer your soon to be adult child to things he should try to do, or let them make their own choices now in the senior year?

Edit: thanks for all the comments so far. Just to clarify he does go to the gym with my husband on weekends but on weekdays he might do some home gym weight training and walking on the treadmill. His weight or fitness isn’t my main concern. He does volunteer at a semi-local museum and have done so for last couple years and continuing this year.

My main inclination (other than structure) to push him towards a sport is more around socializing with his peers, especially kids in his own school. He can go into his shell and be more anti-social but seems to do ok when he spends extended amounts of time with a group of kids as he had with cross country in the past seasons. He was having a great time with the kids last season, so I’m also a bit sad that it seems he has lost that group with everyone graduating.

Window and tire insurance

I called our insurance today and seems they do not offer zero or low cost window insurance for cars. It will be a $500 deductible for each claim (which I assume will raise our insurance over time?)

We just got the Y premium a week ago. So we have to decide if we buy the window and tire insurance. Is it with it to get so we don’t have deal with regular insurance?

I’ve been driving for 30+ years and only once had a chip on a windshield. And for the Tesla window insurance it seems it only covers front windshield and any other glass would need to go through my regular insurance correct?

For tires other than towing, seems this might be handy for flats mostly? Out of my many years of driving I’ve only had to call for flat repair less than 5 times. Are there more issues that makes Teslas tire insurance an essential coverage vs standard tow with regular insurance?

Before vs after?

My mom is in her mid 80s and finally semi coming around to getting knee replacement after many years of cortisone shots. It no longer helps, she’s bone on bone and I notice her knock knee and posture getting worse.

To help encourage her to continue to explore surgery conversations with her physician, is there a site or might you be willing to share some before and after photos of your legs and knees post surgery, maybe after a month or two to see the difference? I see a lot of X-rays posted or just post surgery resting images, but would love to see more actual legs and knees standing post op if available!

Picking up tonight - Gap and insurance?

Update: so my apt was 6:30. The “insurance” panel of my to do list was already checked off but I had uploaded with my existing 2 car insurance policy. A SA called me this morning and even confirmed I’m good to go with all my tasks and just come pickup the car at 6 since the car is in the lot. Not sure who even checks all the things, so that’s why I thought it was fine to go pickup as is and add it later. I’m in CA.

Just to be safe, I called my insurance to get the new car added. Took about 10min on the phone before I went to my apt. They (Costco AmFam) offered me Gap insurance through my policy for $38/6 months for the first 3 years, so I just went with that vs dealing with Wells Fargo. With our multi car policy, 3 cars with a teen, extra insurance came out to just under $800/6 months extra vs our existing policy. Not bad!

Pickup took a little longer only because we asked them to charge it up to over 70% before we left the dealership. We also asked a bunch of questions of the tech since it’s our first Tesla. We arrived 6:17 and started our drive home 6:55.

Now I will spend the next week trying to figure out all the functions!

—————

When should I be calling my insurance to add the new car since we won’t get it until 6pm tonight. Do I get a few days to add to insurance? We have Costco Am Fam for our existing cars.

Also we will have Wells Fargo for loan. Should I call them in the morning to add gap coverage immediately? Loan is $47k total.

1hr from pickup!

Return to sender for smell?

The recent pair of shorts purchase smells like cat or dog pee. I tried soaking in vinegar and soap for 2 days and smell is still there.

Seller suggested I file a Depop claim but I know smell is not something that can be reported.

Can I put the item back in the original package. Send it back to post office to “return to sender” and when seller gets it back ask for refund?

Random sadness and tears, 14yo girl

My normally happy, peppy 14yo just over past couple days started randomly crying. Literally over nothing. Just seems sad, melancholy, quiet tears. I’ve been at home with her the past couple weeks so nothing out of the ordinary has happened to her. She seems to be fine when she went to bed last night. Slept 9hrs and just after lunch started sadness, crying again. First time we were doing legos together. Today we were doing painting together.

We have been out of school for the summer since end of May. We have her doing a couple camps and a sport that has practices 2-3x a week. She seems to have been fine since yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s hormones + boredom. She normally sees a bunch of friends during the school year and now she’s mostly hanging out with me or watching a series on Netflix or whatever. But not in person with friends other than doing the sports days.

Is this a normal teen girl thing? I remember getting angry a lot as a teen but was not a cryer. My son is 2 years older and never went through this phase.

Looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. Maybe I should arrange a couple playdates with her school friends? Even going shopping, which she used to be very excited about, doesn’t seem to do it for her right now. Open to ideas!

1400 SAT worth trying ACT?

Rising senior, not looking for Ivy, but would like to be best prepared for application cycle options with an engineering focus.

Last June test was 1400 (730 math, 670 reading). Plateauing so likely not taking SAT again.

I think for latest ACT it’s all multiple choice unless you opt in for writing test and most people do not?

Has anyone who got similar SAT score perform better on ACT? The reading was obviously the weaker section.

What happens when you select another car that’s available sooner?

We got the stealth grey premium and saw a white one available now but it also has a hitch. It was $2k more than what we ordered. In the app does it offer one feature discount (say free white paint and we pay for hitch) if we swap, or do we have to call our sales associate to make the change for us?

Looks like someone else snagged it quickly, but wanted to understand how it works if we see another.

Post order registering 1 or 2 people?

Just put down our $250 for an order and doing the “paperwork”for vehicle assignment and we will be doing the 0.99% lending deal. We are in CA.

I want to make sure when registration comes through it will be “John Smith OR Sally Smith” not “AND”.

Is this something that will be setup during the initial process or later on with vehicle registration?

If it’s later I rather just put one registrant down so we don’t have to go through ID verification with spouse etc until DMV?

Home charger if I have Tesla solar battery wall?

Trying to prep for our upcoming purchase. We installed a solar battery wall about 8 years ago. I haven’t called an electrician yet, but will installation of car charger be easier or more difficult with an existing battery wall? Anything we should be aware of?

I’m assuming I can use the mobile charger for a bit until we get any installs sorted? Daily commute is about 25min drive, mostly freeway 14 miles away. There is a supercharger station 5min from our house if the mobile charger is too slow?

Invisalign retainer post removal

My teen had 4 removed Friday. Finally eating real food today but got dr cleared to wear Invisalign retainers again. We were basically done with all the trays and now in nightly retainer wear only stage for past 9 months.

Of course after trying to pop the retainer back in today bottom teeth has shifted a bit somehow and causing about 3/10 pain. I gave an ibuprofen but honestly wasn’t expecting teeth to shift in just 5-6 days of not wearing retainers. Did anyone else experience issues getting back into retainers again or maybe this is just a warning to future patients to try to get their retainer back on earlier.

Is exercise pushing up my creatine count?

I know I shouldn’t be freaking out over 2-3 point changes in these charts but I was really hoping I cleaned up my sodium and snack food intake between March and June. But looks like my creatinine numbers got worse. :( my dr had told me just looking at these numbers technically I have CKD. We were waiting to do this June test to see if it was my diet that was throwing off my numbers. But as you can see, it did not get better.

My last 3 eGFR to compare to creatinine chart

6/18/26 - 57
3/19/26 - 59
12/2/25 - 60

My husband reminded me just now that exercise will naturally produce creatine (which might also have slight impact on creatinine numbers?) So now I’m wondering if I’ve been over exercising?

Over the past year I’ve ramped up my workouts and joined a bunch of group classes. I go to a 45min dance class 3-4x a week. Then 2-3 days I do a light weight lifting class for 50min. And I’ll also do a 50min cardio kick boxing class. I definitely sweat but not too much other than in 1 or 2 of these classes.

So, my question is, how significant does exercise impact creatinine numbers and should I be doing less?! Sounds counter intuitive. I really enjoy going to the classes and feel stronger but now I’m worried that is causing more issues to my kidneys?

I’m waiting to hear from my doctor, but just wondering if anyone else had similar situation.

Auto hold issue, 56k miles, still under warranty?

We got a 2022 ionic and mostly love it, except for the odd auto hold/EPB random dinging issue which seems like a known issue, maybe loose wires, maybe break calipers? I’m at 56k miles, would this still be covered under 60k mile warranty if I try to make an apt next week?

This has been happening off and on for about a year and we just never know when it goes off. If I turn off the car and restarts it goes away and resets.

First time 2 day regular or 1 day universal express in Aug.

Our family, 2 adult and 2 teens going to be in LA sometime from 8/1-8/5. We’ve never been to Universal and only been to Disney. The kids like roller coasters.

Currently there’s a deal for $149 for B1G1 so 2 days of visits if we go early Aug. Assume lines are long in Aug still. I also see a 1 day express option for entry on each ride (1x only?) for $309 per person.

Our schedule in LA is pretty flexible, so we could spend 2 days here, standing in lines of what I assume to be 50min-1.5hr per popular ride?

Is it better to just get the express pass? Or is there a better strategy to just do the 2 day pass? Of course I know I also have to factor in extra day of parking and food if we have to come back another day. I also read that the park “could” be done in one day?

Can I assume if we buy the express pass we can pretty much get on each one of the popular rides at least once in a one day visit?

Hoping some of you experts could advise.

Pano roof is making me lean towards the standard RWD

We are looking at Model Y for long distance roadtrips with 2 teens. So 4 people in the car. For upwards of 3-4hr drives. Self-driving is the main feature we “need” and everything else is a nice to have.

We test drove the Y premium and it was nice. But we are in CA. Even for 30min test drive, I was already feeling the sun beating on me on a love 90 degree day. I know it cuts out UV and tinted but I still felt it pretty strongly. Also the one we rode in also was not super clean so I can see lots of dust collecting on the clear roof. I can just imagine constantly wanting to clean it with all the potential bird poop hitting the roof around where we live.

I think the standard model is the only one without pano roof? I know I can get a sun shade…but seems like I’m paying extra for something I don’t even need.

Other than slightly lower mileage, is there any reason I shouldn’t just get a standard model? Maybe with 19” wheels vs 18”? Not even sure how much of a difference that would make. Are the seats much less comfortable for the standard vs premium?

Looks like 0% financing with a small down payment if I make a purchase by 6/30.

Am I the odd one out who doesn’t like the pano?

Edit: I appreciate everyone suggestions and totally get the problem can be improved with a sun shade. I’m just not super picky about all other car features but AM very sensitive to sunlight . :)

My other reason in potentially getting a standard vs premium is that one of my kids will likely end up driving this purchase in another 2 years while we get a new car for ourselves. Sooo does the crowd still say Premium?

How long did pain last?

My 16yo got all 4 removed Friday. None of them had erupted before removal. So far his worst pain level is a 5/10. Usually when he’s a 3/10 he will take more meds. Alternating between IBUPROFEN (400) last about 4-6hrs. And Tylenol (350) last about 4hrs. Post medication he’s usually a 1-2/10. Have not given him anything stronger.

It’s now Saturday night. He has some swelling and I can’t see any blood clots at all. How long did you all need to take pain meds for after surgery? Wondering if he’ll have to medicate for a full week or did most people not need meds after a few days? He’ll need to start an internship in a week so hoping he won’t have to carry meds with him and dose between work.
