Tigris, located in the Mexicantown neighbourhood, opened its doors last weekend with a launch party featuring Peter Croce. The listening bar, cafe and sound room was designed to feel somewhere between a living room and a club, in hopes of allowing DJs to explore aspects they're typically unable to at regular club gigs. Alongside DJs, the space will host dedicated full-length album listening sessions, as well as listening and album release parties. Future lineups are TBA.
The space is equipped with a custom four-way active stereo loudspeaker system designed by Bing Audio. The venture is a collaboration between hospitality industry veteran Jacques Drsicoll, music supervisor Fabian Halabou and Kenan Juska of DJ duo Chances with Wolves. Named for the Tigris River, the cocktail and food offerings will draw inspiration from Halabou's Iraqi heritage.

The venue cited an unfeasible rent hike as the primary reason behind the closure, describing a double in rent that was levied without warning. It also cited confusions and issues with the city government, which created an "irreparable rift" among neighbors, local businesses, the city council and the club, according to the statement. DJ Slugo and Playr1 will headline its last two parties.
In a joint statement shared to Instagram last Friday, June 26th, with Trinity Hospitality, the leaseholder of The Hoxton, the parties said they had reached a "mutually beneficial" agreement that would allow both businesses to operate "side-by-side." Under the agreement, Yamamori will gradually wind down its late-night events, while its restaurant will continue trading until the end of the year.

Sad news....."The space man finally made it to Mars" said his son shared on Instagram.
A new book exploring the history of dubstep has been announced.
Written by music journalist Lauren Martin, Aftershock: The Seismic Impact of Dubstep documents the genre's story through interviews with 28 artists and industry figures, including Mala, Loefah, Coki, Kode9, Hatcha, Youngsta, Skream, Rusko, Plastician, Shackleton and Pinch.
Covering the period from the late '90s through 2011, the oral history explores the development of the dubstep ecosystem through club nights such as FWD>> and DMZ, labels including Hyperdub, Tectonic Recordings and Skull Disco, and the role of pirate radio, record shops and sound system culture in London, Leeds and Bristol. It also examines the genre's expansion into North America and the reactions of its originators as dubstep gained global recognition.
Martin, who's previously held positions at DJ Mag, Red Bull Music Academy and CRACK, authored the VICE Oral History of Dubstep in 2015. This is her first book.
Aftershock: The Seismic Impact of Dubstep is available to pre-order now and in shops from August 3rd
