This Isn't About Illegal Immigration Anymore

"Trump’s newest immigration wall isn’t at the border. It’s being built around legal immigration, one ban, pause, proclamation, and policy at a time.

Families, skilled workers, investors, and even spouses of U.S. citizens could be caught behind it. Is this enforcing the law, or rewriting immigration policy without Congress?"

The last time I saw a video from an immigration lawyer and didn't share it, it was an immigration lawyer warning people who aren't American citizens to stop flying in the US. I didn't share it because he was really freaking out and there weren't any articles about it yet- but the articles and gofundmes did come later.

This is another video from another immigration lawyer and I feel like this video's pretty bad too. I'm sorry I don't have a better video on this but I don't think enough people are talking about this. Have yall heard about this?

Hamilton's first social supermarket officially opens

"Hamilton's first social supermarket has officially opened its doors, but it is a stark reminder that many are unable to afford basic necessities.

After families have paid for rent, mortgage, power, petrol and other debts, there was not much left.

"In many cases, a lot of our clients are resorting to things like Afterpay for food, which is very concerning. So we're seeing people actually getting into debt for food."

He said a family that might have had $20 at the end of the week, now often had nothing.

"The majority of people that we see, it's not because they can't manage their money, it's because there's not enough money to go around."

"The need behind this is the fact that 40 percent of our whanau in the Waikato region are experiencing some type of food insecurity," store manager Hera Taiapa said.

"What really has been pulling my attention certainly is seeing whanau who may not be accustomed or those whanau who are not used to reaching out to other services for assistance, the amount of working families that are coming in really started setting off alarm bells. It's no secret the cost of living crisis is not fussy with who it rains on."

Political upheaval drives huge surge in Māori overseas enrolment

"Overseas enrolments across the Māori electorates has surged 67 percent since the 2023 election, with advocates in Australia saying political upheaval at home is drawing previously disengaged Māori into the political process.

Queensland-based enrolment advocates Rachael Marie Johnstone and Nicole Orzecki say they have seen a noticeable surge in Māori interest, particularly among younger voters.

"I've always voted and have always encouraged my kids to do the same. Three of them are old enough to vote and they're enrolled. It doesn't matter where we are in the world, we know where home is."

"I get so many people messaging to say, 'I didn't know I was allowed to vote,' and some will get stuck and message me, and I just guide them through or show them where to go next. It's basic and simple, but it works."

Tania Waikato, Green Party candidate for Waiariki, is doing an online enrolment workshop with lawwithrii on Sunday 30 August at 7pm. If anyone want the details lmk or feel free to look it up on her social media.

There are also multiple enrolment campaigns going on rn, online and in-person, with multiple different orgs too. I'll post some and feel free to share any too.

My take on the overhang strategy

What do you think? Do you have any thoughts on the overhang strategy?

PS- I think this video might be getting some hate- so if you appreciate Aotearoa Liberation League's mahi, please let them know and give these new parents some algo boosts.

Every like, follow, comment on their IG helps spread their mahi. 👍🙏 (And thank you for the bite size video!!!)

I saw 2 other great videos on the overhang strategy from 2 more IG creators as well, one had a really funny but serious take, and another a wider strategy take. Lmk if you want me to find and link to and/or upload them too.

National and Labour just achieved something unprecedented across 50 years of polling

"Across more than 50 years of polling for the news bulletin at TVNZ – polling conducted by Heylen, then Colmar Brunton and its successors, Verian and Kantar – Labour and National have each hit some high highs and low lows. But never before have both, at the same time, returned a result of 30% or lower."

Whānau, you have until 11:59PM tonight to register, enrol or switch to the Māori Roll

"Just over 14 hours left to enrol on the Māori roll. Do it from your phone, your couch, or your office!"

(Tainui is Everlee Wihongi's cousin, he made a lot of videos to support Everlee.)

Also from Mariameno Kapa-Kingi mō Te Tai Tokerau's Facebook post:

"LAST DAY TO REGISTER, ENROL OR SWITCH TO THE MĀORI ROLL

Whānau, you have until 11:59PM tonight to register, enrol or switch to the Māori Roll.

Reminder that this government have restricted whānau who would enrol, register or switch on the day of voting.

According to the Electoral Commission Report, just over 110,000 enrolled or updated their enrolments on voting day during the 2023 General Election. Of that number between 8,000 to 8,500 voters switched from General Roll to the Māori Roll. Further, around 2,500 enrolled for the first time on the Māori Roll.

As of 30th June 2026, 302,188 voters are enrolled on the Māori Roll which equates to 54% of enrolled Māori voters are now on the Māori Roll. I am so proud of us, let's keep going.

To check your enrolment, switch or update your enrollment go to www.vote.nz

If you are having issues, please screenshot and send to me at [removed in case of spam].

I have received a number of issues from whānau who have been switched to the General Roll, not enrolled at all despite being a voter previously or incorrect details.

I have informed my colleagues at the Commission of these issues and will continue to do so whilst in Wellington.

My team are on call and are well prepared to manaaki.

Kia kaha whānau. Let's keep pushing."

TWO days left to switch to the Māori roll before the next election

There are 2 days left to switch to the Māori roll before the next election, and 82 days left to enrol. If you want to switch or enrol, go to vote.nz.

"6 August last day whānau 👍🏽"

Some quotes from this great video:

"I didn't actually know very much about the Māori seats until Rawiri Waititi made a video on it and that made me go research the history of the Māori electorates or the Māori seats.

So up until 1975, if you were half Māori, you actually couldn't be on the general rolls, you had to be on the Māori roll.

...Māori landowners started getting harassed by British immigrants, taken to court for land claims that they had no choice but to defend, otherwise they'd lose their land, and a whole bunch of other things that meant Māori went from owning nearly 75% of land in 1860 to 5% only 40 years later, which is absolutely nuts.

...So Māori seats in Parliament or the Māori electorates was basically one way of trying to protect Māori land rights within the government system.

And the British people actually understood that they couldn't justify that law. The whole voting system is based on land ownership and you've got Māori who own nearly 75% of the land, and they're not allowed to vote, but they're still expected to pay taxes. You just can't justify it.

So they ended up making some specific Māori seats in the New Zealand parliament.

By population, they should have got 24 out of 78, they got 4."

Did you know nearly 1 million Māori descendants are represented by just 7 electorates?

"Did you know nearly 1 million Māori descendants are represented by just 7 electorates?

But here's the kicker, if every eligible Māori switched to the Māori roll, experts say, we'd jump to 13 or 14 seats.

And with 13 or 14 seats, we don't just get a seat at the table, we become the kingmaker.

Deadline midnight the 6th of August, that's it, that's your window to switch."

"There are 4 days left to switch to the Māori roll before the next election, and 84 days left to enrol. Go to vote.nz and get it done now.

Educate your whanau, friends, kura mates , work colleagues to change the government. We need to hīkoi to the voting booths en mass!

We got this e te whānau. Take action today! Enrol to vote switch rolls.

Keep an eye on the TOITŪ TE TIRITI page some uplifting activations coming soon" - Tania Waikato, Green Party Candidate 2026

"Rārangi Māori
Rārangi Whānui.

Register to vote e te whānau! 🔻"
