Should I See a Doctor / Dermatologist for a Dark Mark Left by a Rash?

About three weeks ago, I went to visit family in Kentucky. It was pretty hot and humid outside, and I was helping in the garden. There were a lot of mosquitoes, so I grabbed a hoodie from my bag to protect my neck. I took a shower afterward.

About 3 or 4 days later, I got a haircut, and my barber pointed out that I had a rash on the back of my neck. It was itchy at the time. Fast forward to today (about three weeks later), I got another haircut, and he mentioned that there's now a dark circle or dark patch where the rash was.

I honestly forgot about it because it doesn't itch anymore. I've attached a before and after picture for reference.

Do you think I should see a dermatologist or my primary care doctor? Or is this something I could try treating with an over-the-counter product like Mederma Advanced Scar Gel or something similar?

Also, if you think I should see a doctor, is there anything I should avoid doing until Monday? For example, using certain creams, working out, being out in the sun, or anything else?

For context: I'm a 28-year-old male, 190 lbs. I don't take any medications, I don't smoke, and I have no history of smoking.

My Apartment Won't Raise My Shower Curtain Rod. What's the Best Way to Shorten a Shower Curtain Without Cutting It?

I’ve been searching for a burnt orange shower curtain and towel set for the longest, and I finally found one. The only problem is it’s about 4 inches too long and drags on the floor.

I live in an apartment, so I put in a maintenance request to have them raise the shower curtain rod by 4 inches. Like any other shitty apartment management, they said no.

I’m trying to figure out my options so it doesn’t drag. I don’t want to pay for a tailor just yet. Is there anything I can do to fold or adjust it myself?

The property manager mentioned using fabric tape. Has anyone tried that or have any other suggestions?

I was also thinking about posting on TaskRabbit or Thumbtack to get someone out here to fix it.

How do I shop around for car insurance, and what are the best websites to compare insurance quotes?

Does anyone have recommendations for the best way to shop around and save money on car insurance? I’m in Michigan.

Right now, I’m paying almost $290/month to insure a 2003 Camry and a 2014 Honda Civic. Before I added my brother, I was paying about $85/month, so the increase has been pretty significant

I’m 28, and my younger brother is 21. Neither of us has ever been in an accident. My brother did get a minor speeding ticket (about 5 mph over the limit), but our insurance company said it only raised the premium by roughly $20/month. I’ve included our current policy details below.

Are there any websites that are actually helpful for comparing rates without leading to a flood of calls, texts, and emails from insurance agents? I'd like to avoid getting spammed if possible. A few years ago, I used a comparison site and ended up finding a much better rate for the same coverage, but unfortunately I can't remember which website it was.

Also, does anyone have experience with companies like AAA, Progressive, or others? I've heard people ecommend working with an independent insurance agency since they can shop multiple carriers for you. But how does that differ from just reaching out to companies directly?

Bodily Injury Liability: $250,000 / $500,000

Property Damage Liability $100,000

Personal Injury Protection Coverage (See Policy Schedule)

Uninsured Motor Vehicle - Bodily Injury: $250,000 / $500,000

Underinsured Motorist - Bodily Injury: $250,000 / $500,000

Comprehensive Deductible: $500

Collision Coverage Type: Broadened

Broadened Collision Deductible: $500

Roadside Assistance: Yes

Rental Car and Travel Expenses: No Coverage

Death, Dismemberment and Loss of Sight: $10,000

Property Protection: $1,000,000

Limited Property Damage: Yes

2003 Camry O2 Sensor Has White Chalky Buildup: What's Causing It?

My local mechanic quoted me $300 to replace the upstream oxygen sensor on my 2003 Toyota Camry. The check engine light is on with code P0031 (HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low – Bank 1 Sensor 1). This was my first car, and when I asked how important the repair was, they told me it wasn't urgent. They said that if I didn't replace it, the main impact would be reduced fuel economy and that it wouldn't cause any direct harm to the engine. I'm not sure how accurate that is, though.

I finally decided to replace the sensor myself, but when I removed it, I noticed the tip had a white, chalky-looking buildup on it. From the research I've done, it sounds like this could be caused by silicone poisoning, but I'm not entirely sure.

What are some possible causes of a white, chalky deposit on an oxygen sensor? Before I install a new one, I want to make sure I'm addressing the root cause so I don't end up wasting money on another sensor.

I did have a leaking valve cover gasket at one point, but I recently replaced it. My mechanic also told me it wasn't likely to cause any major issues, lol. I also had my car overheat once or twice, and I later found out it was due to a leaking radiator, which has since been replaced.

Could either of those issues have contributed to the buildup, or is there something else that might be causing it?

Are There Any Quiet Remote Work Spots Around Detroit/Dearborn?

I have to be in the Detroit/Dearborn area once a week for a doctor’s appointment, thankfully I work remotely, so I want to take advantage of that. I work in tech and I’m in meetings pretty frequently, so I want to be courteous to those around me while also finding a place that isn’t too loud or chaotic, like a busy coffee shop.

I know Teams and Zoom have features that help filter background noise, but unfortunately my meetings are over the phone. Are there any good places where I could work remotely for a few hours? Do any of the Detroit/Dearborn libraries have rooms that can be booked? If not in Detroit/Dearborn, are there any nearby areas you’d recommend?

2003 Camry Upstream O2 Sensor Replacement: Is Cleaning the Threads Necessary and Should Denso Come with Anti-Seize Under the Protective Cap?

My local mechanic quoted me $300 to replace the oxygen sensor on my 2003 Camry (Bank 1, Sensor 1). I looked it up on YouTube and it seems super straightforward. I only have two questions.

In the TRQ video (“How to Replace Upstream O2 Sensor 2002–2006 Toyota Camry 2.4L L4”), around 0:51 she cleans the area with an emery sand block. How important is that step? The sensor likely hasn’t been replaced since at least 2017, maybe longer.

Also, in other videos I’ve seen mechanics apply anti-seize. My Denso sensor from RockAuto didn’t come with any visible paste, but it did have a protective cap on it. Does it usually come pre-applied, or am I mistaken? And if I take the cap off and it’s exposed to air, would that affect or dry out/ruin the anti-seize in any way?

Medical school remediation, CBSE struggles, and now suspension pending dismissal

I’m a medical student currently in suspension pending dismissal, and I’m honestly trying to figure out how to handle this situation the right way.

The original reason I ended up in remediation was not because I didn’t care or wasn’t trying. I had family responsibilities going on at the time, and I was also sick, which really affected my ability to keep up academically. I know that doesn’t erase the outcome, and I take responsibility for not meeting the requirement, but there were definitely things going on that made it harder for me to perform the way I needed to.

When I came back into the program, I felt a really heavy sense of judgment around being a remediation student. Maybe some of it was in my head, but it honestly felt like I was already being viewed differently. Over time, I started developing a lot of anxiety around the CBSE specifically. It became more than just another exam. It started feeling like this one test was deciding whether I belonged in medicine at all.

The confusing part is that on NBMEs, I’ve been scoring around 54 to 65 EPC, but on the CBSE I’ve been scoring much lower, around 41 to 48 EPC. I know those scores are not where they need to be, but the gap has made me feel completely stuck. It makes me question myself constantly. I feel stupid, even though deep down I genuinely believe I can become a great doctor one day.

I know I have weaknesses. I know I need a better plan, better consistency, and probably better support for the anxiety side of this too. But I also know I care about patients, I care about medicine, and I don’t think my current test performance fully reflects the kind of physician I could become.

Right now, I’m trying to appeal and explain my situation in a way that is honest without sounding like I’m making excuses. I want to take accountability, but I also want the school to understand the context: the family responsibilities, being sick, the anxiety that developed after returning, and the fact that I have shown improvement on practice exams even though it hasn’t translated to CBSE yet.

Has anyone been through something similar with remediation, CBSE/Step 1 requirements, or suspension pending dismissal? What helped you in your appeal or meeting with administration? What do schools usually want to hear before they are willing to give a student another chance?

I’m not looking for pity. I’m just trying to figure out how to survive this professionally, mentally, and academically without giving up on becoming a doctor.

Where Can I Work Remotely Besides Home or a Quiet Office if I Have Meetings Throughout the Day?

I currently work remotely, and while it has its pros and cons, I’m just not as productive at home. So I usually end up going into the office where I can lock in and get a lot done, but my company is fully remote, so the office is basically empty most of the time. For some reason though, I sometimes feel a bit down being there compared to when I work from home.

I work in tech and I’m in meetings pretty often, so I’ll need to be able to talk throughout the day while having a headset on. So I need somewhere that isn’t too loud or chaotic. What are some good places where I could work remotely for a few hours?
