I run a small restaurant here in Chicago with about 18 people, and we’re at the point where payroll is outgrowing how I’ve been handling it. It’s taking up more of my week than it should, and I’d rather get something in place now than wait until we’re bigger and it’s more of a pain to switch everything over.
I actually started out on Gusto, but it didn’t really click for me, so I’ve been looking around. A friend who also runs a restaurant brought up Homebase as an option, so that’s on my list now along with whatever else people here are using.
If you’re running a place with less than 20 people, how’d you end up setting yours up

My partner and I were paying for Babbel separately for months before we realized the Group Plan existed. Now we're both on one subscription, and it's way less annoying than managing two accounts. It covers up to 6 people, so we'll probably have friends join.
The thing that sold me is that we can't see each other's stuff. We're both doing Spanish, but at very different levels, and it helps that my partner can't see how far behind I am, Also just something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about signing up. Whoever sets up the plan stays as the admin, so it’s best to choose someone who plans to keep their account open long term. That way, everyone in the group can continue enjoying uninterrupted access. 
Anyone else on it? Curious whether people are sharing with family or splitting it with friends

Right now we pay instructors $40 per class no matter how many people show up. So they get the same whether it's 5 students or 20. I'm wondering if switching to commission based pay would work better. Like maybe $5 per person who attends or something. Seems like it'd push them to actually promote their classes and build a following instead of just showing up. The thing is tracking it all seems like a headache. Does anyone here do commission pay or know how studios typically handle instructor payments. What's worked for you guys.

The aggregators surface the same large operators everywhere I look, and the reviews are so high volume they stop meaning anything. The better experiences I've had came from someone specific recommending someone specific. That doesn't scale when you're planning several countries. Is there a reliable way to find the smaller outfits, or is it just asking in places like this?

Everything I read says the south is unrecognisable and the well known spots are saturated. What I want to know from people who actually returned is where they redirected to, and whether it held up or just turned out to be the next place on the same trajectory. Interested in specific areas rather than a general say go east, and whether the operators there are still locally run.

When I was learning Spanish, I spent a long time assuming that if I could recognize hablé instantly on the page, then I basically knew the preterite. But I didn’t. At some point, I had to accept that comprehension and production run on separate tracks and input builds recognition. So, you see enough of a form, and it becomes familiar, then you can see it in a text without having to stop and parse it. And for Production, that’s all through forced output. Like having to produce the conjugation yourself under some kind of pressure. To get better, I started drilling one tense at a time with duolingo and babbel and writing sentences with them until it got easier to remember. It’s slower than it sounds and pretty boring, but I think it worked.

How did the rest of you get Spanish verbs from something you recognize on sight to something you produce without translating in your head first?
