Obsession with advancement

Trying to fit in with the "regular" world can be so needlessly annoying.

I just got a new job, and everyone I talk to says something along the lines of, "they're a big company, so you can probably move up."

A little background, first:

I have been a stay-at-home-dad for the last 13 years, and worked a part-time closing shift in a supermarket deli for the last 11. Now that both of my kids are in middle school and can get themselves there and back on their own, I decided to get a full-time day job.

After about a year of searching, applying, interviewing and rejections, I finally found a new job, and I love it. It has the perfect hours, great pay and benefits, it's super laid-back, and I actually enjoy doing it. I'm driving a Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT) van for an eldercare program. It's so refreshing to work someplace where everyone *wants* to be here.

I've only been here a few weeks, but I'm really quite content now, and yet everyone I talk to about it says something along the lines of, "they're a big company, so you can probably move up," and I'm just like, why is everyone so obsessed with advancement like this? First of all, I literally *just* started this job, and second, why can't I just be happy where I am?

Normies are so weird.

Pickman vs Alpha Deathclaw and divine intervention

I saved this because I thought the Deathclaw took itself out by bumping into a car, and I thought it was funny. But on the replay, I don't see one close enough, so I'm not exactly sure what happened.

I think that "Motivational Speaker" (s6e19) is the best all around episode

All three plots - Reese joining the dog pack, Hal becoming the motivational speaker, and Dewey "cheating" on Lois with the other mom - are hilarious and so well done. Definitely a contender for one of my favorite episode.

I was cleaning out my work locker and found this Covid-era gem. Personally, I think we could all use a day-glow vest telling people to stay six feet away from us from time to time

2017 Honda CR-V Brake wear indicator but pads are OK (according to the Dealer)

TL;DR:

2017 CR-V - brought to dealer to replace pads because I could hear wear indicator. Dealer says pads are fine but master cylinder is bad. Replaced master cylinder, but can still hear wear indicator.

Full story:

I started hearing the squeal from the brake wear indicator from the rear brakes in my CR-V a couple of weeks ago. It's been a few years since I had them done, so I figured it was time.

I made an appointment with the dealer online, but their list of complaints only listed "Brake issue," so that's what I chose, and I wrote on the key envelope when I dropped it off "can hear brake wear indicator." (I know people have strong feelings on whether or not to use the dealer for repairs, and I don't want to discuss that, thanks :) )

I got a call later that day saying that the pads were fine - the front were perfect and the back were at 70%, but there were a ton of codes from the brake master cylinder, and it needed to be replaced. This honestly didn't surprise me, because the parking brake and "brake hold" feature have always been temperamental, so I just avoided using them.

So, they replaced the cylinder, bled the lines and sent me on my way, but I'm still hearing the wear indicator from the rear.

So, if the pads are as good as they say, and they just took everything apart and reassembled it, what's making the noise?

What's the deal with streaming services showing a random 5-minute clip from a movie instead of an actual trailer?

I've noticed this across all of the major streaming services, and it's super annoying. I'm trying to get my kids to watch some of the older movies I grew up with, and we have to go to YouTube to find the trailer. Even on Disney Plus *for* Disney movies! Can they not get the rights to their own trailers?
