Do you find the supernatural elements of Scarlet Hollow scary?

I'm genuinely curious because I'm not into horror and I consider myself pretty sensitive but I don't find anything scary about the supernatural elements of SH. I find the Ditchlings pretty gross and some things about Reese's and Sybil's stories were disturbing, but nothing actually frightening. The only "scary" thing for me really was the >!mine collapse!<, especially the element of >!reckless teens getting themselves killed!<. A friend of mine (30 y/o male) is *really* spooked by the Ditchlings but to me they're just weird little cartoon guys? It made me wonder what the general audience reaction is.

How to contact support?

I've seen a few people mention that if your streak gets broken due to app issues you can contact support to fix it. How do you do this/what's the email address? All I could find is a chatbot that tells me it can't help.

Why are crosswords not showing up in the evening anymore?

I used to see the next day's crossword starting around 6 PM ish New York time but now it seems like they don't drop until midnight. I liked doing them a day in advance to keep my streak safe.

Night mode gone from Nest Mini? (No Gemini)

A few nights in the last month my Nest Mini has woken me up by randomly shouting about turning my Roku off. I figured out what was causing this (a functionality in an automation that had worked fine for years before suddenly triggering this behavior...) but even then, I was perplexed why it was happening because I thought I had Night Mode enabled to stop loud and verbose output at night.

When I tap Speaker > Settings > Digital Well-being > Night Mode, it takes me back to the main screen of the app, which obviously seems like a bug. But when I tap the same sequence from there, Night Mode isn't available at all.

Did they remove this feature? I'm pretty annoyed if so. Seems like basic common sense if you have a device that can make loud noises to shut it up at night?

Hi all. For some context, I'm 36, I have a 3 year bachelor's degree from Canada (important later) and I've been accepted to the IU (Bloomington) HCI/d Master's and the UT Dallas Master's in Applied Cognition, HCI track. I have 4 years of experience as a content designer and I'm interested in UX research in the AI space. Here are my options and what I see as their pros and cons:

  1. IU: Obviously, this is a well known school for HCI. Good alumni network and internship opportunities. But for me it has significant drawbacks: small geographically isolated town and focus on design studio work, which isn't my main interest. Even though it's a good school I'm not convinced it's the right fit for me.

  2. UT Dallas: Not particularly well known for HCI but has a decent reputation overall. I like that the degree is specifically geared toward UX research and is embedded in a cognition degree (my background is in cognitive science). I'm concerned the alumni network isn't as strong, but being in the DFW area is a big plus. Not sure how hireable this will make me.

  3. Defer admission and reapply to UT Austin MSIS: I mentioned above I have a 3 year bachelor's. The above two schools accept those degrees, UT Austin does not. I am working on turning it into a 4 year degree and will be finished in August — but unfortunately that wasn't soon enough for UT Austin, who deemed me ineligible. UT Austin is absolutely my top choice: strong program, flexible course choice, professors working on my exact research interests, lower tuition costs, geographically well-situated. I'd also have an extra year to gather savings, so this seems like the sensible option on paper. But even if I wait a year there is no guarantee I'll get in, and at 35, the prospect of waiting another year with my life in limbo because I'm planning on an international move is really difficult to stomach.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, especially if you attended one of these programs.

It was not a super popular song, I heard it randomly one day at my climbing gym. The band was European but the lyrics were in English. I recall the tone of the song being somewhat wry and ironic. I think either the band or the song had the name of a city in it.

There's a certain kind of book that I find very comforting to read. They have the following characteristics:

  1. The setting is recognizably Earth. It draws on real history, places, culture and myth.

  2. The main characters witness a whimsical, fantastical world full of wonders. There are no "magic systems," it's more about imagination and awe. The story is typically an adventure.

  3. Despite the whimsy, there are serious stakes and a story worth caring about. There should be humor, but the tone is not primarily humorous. Cynicism is definitely out.

Books I've read that meet these criteria: Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, The Once and Future King, The Bright Sword, Senlin Ascends

Books that definitely would not meet these criteria: Discworld (not Earth, too humor-oriented), the Cosmere (not Earth, too systematic), the Dresden Files (too humorous and cynical).

Would love further suggestions.
