I’ve never actually finished a KU book. Prove me wrong and help me find a good one.

I have had so many trials of KU and even paid for months but I’ve never actually finished a book on there because of poor writing. Help me find a good one so I can say my subscription is actually worth it. I mostly read romance and romantasy.

Quinlar are mates.

I don’t know how anyone can read all of this and still think they aren’t.

Like, you can dislike them and like Bryceriel all you want. Not saying you can’t like a crackship. I don’t love Quinlar either.

But trying to argue that they aren’t “real” mates or that they “just said they were mates but didn’t show mate behavior” is false. Hunt clearly shows mate behavior when Bryce is in danger. Enough for even Ruhn to comment on it and say they’re mates. And that he knew their scents had merged like mates.

This, plus SJM herself telling us a million times that they are mates should be enough to prove it.

Like I said, you can have whatever crackships you want, I do too. But you can’t ignore/change canon.

Favorite completed fics?

The longer the better. I have read and loved Piano Man and I loved Sugar and Spice even though it’s a triad, but I’d rather have just Theomione and no love triangle or triad with Draco.

I don’t want anything dark, I prefer fluff and sweet, funny Theo.

Babies eventually would be great too!

Recs WITH pregnancy and babies? Not just in the epilogue, preferably.

Going off another post I saw that didn’t want any pregnancy or babies, which I’ve actually never read in romantasy and would love to. I read fanfic to get this with my favs 😂. I’d love to actually read some books where we get to see kids eventually. And I’d love to actually get to see them a bit, not just hear about them in the epilogue.

I know ACOTAR technically has it but since we barely got to see it at all so far, I’m not counting it yet. Lol

How can I fix these bangs?

I wanted bangs sort of like pics 2 and 3, Taylor Swift or 70s-ish bangs. Told the stylist what I wanted but they just don’t look right to me. I feel like they make me look old and they look dated. Any way to salvage them or just start pinning them back until they grow out??

Any “upbeat” period dramas?

I know, history is history, and it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. But I find a lot of period dramas to be more on the melancholy side. For instance, I love Downton Abbey, but I do find it to be a little sad and depressing, especially certain seasons.

I thought Victoria was very well done and more “happy” and romantic.

Any others that have that more romantic, escapism vibe? Like you just sigh and wish you could be in it? Lol 😂

I’ve watched: Reign, The Tudors, Downton, Sanditon, Poldark, some of Outlander (big no), Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, The Buccaneers, and probably others I’ve forgotten.

I’m personally excited for a soft, feminine FMC.

I have seen so many people say they won’t read about Elain because they don’t want to read about a “boring gardener” and that she’s useless, etc. but I very much disagree.

As someone who likes gardening, cooking, etc, I am excited to have a different type of FMC that I can relate to more. I never really click with the warrior/tomboy types and I hated reading about working out for 1000 pages. lol

Plus, it’s not like her entire book is going to revolve around planting flowers all day, every day. She has lots of plot connections that will be a part of her story. I want to find out more of her Seer abilities. Whether she can help them with Koschei. Whether she has been secretly learning to spy with Azriel and/or the twins. Her friendship with them. And, of course, we all want the resolution to the Elain/Azriel/Lucien situation and what *her choice* is going to be with that! (Let’s not turn this into a shipping post, please. This is about Elain)

Edit to add: since some people are accusing me of this, I want to clarify that I am NOT saying other women are not feminine. This is just what our society has decided; that cooking, baking, gardening are traditionally feminine hobbies and it is often used to insult those types of women because everyone only wants the tomboyish hunting, fighting, training, pants wearing types that are “not like other girls” because gardening is “boring”. You’re cool if you like to work on cars, watch sports, or anything else guys typically like though.

Diva disc suctioned and I almost couldn’t remove it.

I know everything out there says discs don’t use suction, but it did. Don‘t ask me how or why. I wore it all day, went to remove in shower with the loop, and it would NOT come out and I could feel this intense pressure and suction just like when I tried a cup. had to reach my finger inside the top of it, break the seal, then pull it out and it hurt the entire way out like it still didn‘t want to come out. Now I have major cramping and discomfort. I don’t know what happened but it’s got me not wanting to use it anymore. Thoughts?

Suggest me some short stories/novellas!

I’m in a reading slump and thought maybe if I tried some really short books or some books with compilations of short stories that I can read a story at a time and feel like I accomplished something, that would work.

Any genre but horror or anything dark/violent. I mostly read romance and fantasy but I also sometimes like mysteries, biographies, nonfiction.

Thanks!

Popularity does not equal “good” writing.

A lot of people seem to think that if a book/series is popular, then it must be good. But popularity does not equal good writing.

Does that mean you can’t like them? No. Preferences are very subjective. I love ACOTAR but I could also rip it to shreds if I sat down and critiqued the actual writing and flaws in it (which I do, quite often, in certain spaces). It’s just plain facts that it suffers from poor writing a lot. Plot holes, retcons, overuse of phrases, Mary Sue characters, etc.

This came about because I said the Off Campus books are poorly written and got dogpiled on by its fan base for it. But, they are. They sound like they’re written by a teenager, about teenagers, instead of grown adults. And, when you make your characters seem very unlikable, it’s hard for some people to connect to them. But, I love the show and think they did a great job making the books better.

If you love them, that’s totally fine. I just think people should be able to admit that their favs are not literary masterpieces and they connected to them for personal reasons or something.

Suggest me some easy romance reads!

I'm looking for some light, easy romance books that require minimal brainpower to follow and enjoy. I've started several lately but they all had massive amounts of backstory and family drama that I wasn't interested in trying to follow because I'd have to make a PowerPoint to keep up with everything. I just want to be sucked into a good romance, without it being too plot-heavy in the sense of background info/world building. Main focus should be on character interaction and relationship building.

Any genre besides sci-fi (yes I know I'm basically describing Ice Planet Barbarians but I don't want aliens right now LOL)

Thanks!!

P.S.: I did try posting this into a romance-specific sub but they deleted it.

Gwyn’s heritage is something I need answered…

I posted this elsewhere too, but I thought I’d probably get more responses here. Gwyn’s heritage constantly bugs me and I’d like to hear your theories on it.

Here’s what we know, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on anything!

-Grandmother was a river nymph who slept with an Autumn court male

-Said male was presumably nobility, perhaps even one of the Vanserras, because her mother lived in the Forest House, which I understood to be Beron’s ancestral home?

-Mother left Autumn and participated in the Great Rite with an unnamed male that the “magic chose”

Here’s where it gets tricky for me:

-We are initially told all the high lords participate in the Rite, but later it is retconned to seem that it’s only Tamlin.

-Regardless, due to Gwyn’s age (28), the only court that was not Under the Mountain at the time would have been Spring. This means none of the other high lords would have been participating, and I doubt their courts would have either. But maybe I’m misunderstanding this. I thought most of them were UTM though except Spring, Velaris, and the other places the high lords managed to hide like Rhysand did before they lost their magic.

So… what I gather is that one of the Vanserras are likely the grandfather. Probably not Lucien, but it’s uncertain, because we don’t know how long ago this happened. How old her grandmother was when she had her mother.

Then, is Tamlin the father?

Or is this just an unfortunate plot hole due to SJM’s retcons?

Have you found any other books that hit like TFOTA?

I’ve read quite a bit of fantasy/romantasy but I haven’t found many others that have the same vibes as TFOTA with the traditional, folkloric fairytale setting, fairies who actually look and act like fairies instead of humans with pointy ears, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I love ACOTAR and some others, but I really enjoy the escape to another world that feels truly different from our own, which TFOTA has. Too many of them just feel like our world with magic.

Edit: spelling

Most people don’t know what the word narcissist means and throw it around too much.

I see people all day long calling certain characters like Nesta and Tamlin narcissists, yet they love Rhysand, who is a textbook narcissist. Let’s look at the traits:

“Use the acronym “SPECIAL ME” to remember the nine signs of NPD.
SPECIAL ME

Sense of self-importance (I’m the most powerful Hugh lord, the most handsome)

Preoccupation with power, beauty, or success (again, self-proclaimed most powerful high lord, thinks Velaris is the best when it isn’t)

Entitled (thinks he gets to do whatever he wants when he wants it. Strolling in wherever, stealing stuff, etc)

Can only be around people who are important or special (the IC are the ONLY good people in their world and also the only powerful ones, according to him and Feyre)

Interpersonally exploitative for their own gain (manipulating Feyre into a bargain, stealing from Tarquin, politically maneuvering everyone)

Arrogant (self explanatory)

Lack empathy (doesn’t care that he hurt Feyre or anyone else, because he has “reasons”)

Must be admired

Envious of others or believe that others are envious of them (envious of Tarquin because hes nice and Feyre smiled at him)”

Narcissists also never take accountability for anything or apologize, like how Rhys did not apologize when Feyre called him out for what he did UTM, or when he hurt Mor, or what he said to Tamlin, etc etc. he never admits any wrongdoing.

Whereas Nesta possesses very few of these traits, HAS admitted she failed, HAS apologized, has tried to improve herself, realizes that she’s flawed and hates herself for it. A narcissist would never hate themselves, they love themselves more than anyone else in the world. Actually, they are the ONLY person they love. Nesta may not be perfect, but she does love her family and Cassian.

Stop throwing these mental health terms around because you saw them on tik tok and decided you were a psychologist. Claiming you’re a “victim” of this and that and the other when you don’t even know what you’re talking about is harmful to others!

Need good narrator recs!

Hi all! I’m in need of some recommendations for really good narrators. I’m trying to get into audiobooks more so I can listen while I do other things, but I’m picky about voices! I tend to prefer deeper voices. Male voices especially, but I have had some good female ones. Rosalyn Landor is one of my favs in historical romance. I also like dual narration or full cast/graphic audio. I mostly read romance and fantasy. Thanks!

Best Scottish historical romances?

I love the Scotland setting of Outlander and some of the other things about it, but I don’t like all the violence. I would not consider it a romance.

I also didn’t like The Bride by Julie Garwood, which is a shocker, I know. Everyone else loves it. But I found the writing and some of the stuff that happens very cringey. The way the father was obsessed with her?? And the old man who worked for them saying he was the one who taught her about sex and all that and telling her about the wedding night??? Um, no. Creepy and inappropriate. I’ve never read any other HR where a man would have talked to a young lady about something like that.

Can anyone recommend some other good ones? I prefer funnier stories, not too much angst. And MMCs who may seem gruff and grumpy, but are really teddy bears for their lady.

I know you’ll think I’m crazy but Spiro is HELPING with my bladder urgency…

I know this is crazy and goes completely against everything Spiro is known to do. But I’ve been noticing that when I remember to take my Spiro consistently, I have LESS bladder urgency and incontinence. When I miss my dose, I end up having issues. Like today. I missed my dose last night because I’m very sick with strep and was so sick I was about to vomit and completely miserable, so I forgot my meds. Today, having to constantly run to the bathroom before I pee on myself. When I take the Spiro, this doesn’t happen. What the heck?? Not complaining… just trying to figure out why this is happening.

Any new-ish marriage law/arranged marriage/marriage of convenience fics? Or forced proximity?

These are my favorite tropes and they’re relatively hard to find (well, when you’re like me and have read tons of Dramione over the years 🤣). I’ve read most of the more well known ones:

Ten Out of Ten

Matched

Remember Us as War

A Year and a Day

In These Silent Days

Plus tons of others like DMATMOOBIL and such. But, I took a break from Dramione for a while due to reading so much of it so I don’t know what’s more recently published. Or maybe lesser known ones I missed.

Thanks!

Product recommendations for damaged fine, wavy, low porosity hair?

My hair is naturally dry, frizzy, dull, low porosity, and wavy 2c/3a hair (I keep it straightened a lot though). I’ve also put it through a lot lately with color, color remover, then professional color correction with bleach and more color.

I’m looking for some good products to help with the damage. I have tried Olaplex shampoo and conditioner before and wasn’t all that impressed with it, plus I didn’t like the smell. Any other bond repair shampoos/conditioners or products that work well and don’t stink? Also styling products that will help frizz since it’s summer and I’d like to air dry and leave it curly some. The humidity ruins my straight hair anyway so there’s no point.

Thank you!!
